Rob’s final time was 14hrs and 52 mins – and he burnt 11600 calories in the process!

The annual duck race takes place in the village of Plaxton and Neil, Belinda, Louisa, Charlotte B, Gen and Kath all entered the race. No winners this year….but it is the first year we had 3 ducks in the final following the heats! Can you guess what pop stars our ducks are??

As we turned 18 this year and have seen a significant growth spurt since moving into London in 2008, we decided to draw breath…. and take a fresh look at our brand and business offering in the context of today’s dynamic marketplace.  With new hires being integrated to strengthen the breadth and depth of the Acclaim proposition, we’re very proud to launch our spanking new look here on our website.  It reflects months of research and auditing, both internally and externally. We really hope you like it – and that it gives you a genuine sense of our substance and methodology.  Acclaim’s brand is essentially all about drive, creativity, flexibility, integrity and community.  And the ! icon embodies all of this and now stands alone with meaning, as the stamp of Acclaim. We’re pretty proud of it – and we hope you’ll give us your views!

We’ve had a lot going on recently at Acclaim. A fresh new website, new approach (read about it Our Approach section) and most importantly new people.

People truly are the most valuable asset that any agency has and we have been very lucky in hiring some great people to join our team recently, people who have come from different areas of the industry.  As well as our internal changes the whole live events industry is going through a huge period of development. Economic pressure is driving down costs and new technologies and techniques present unique sets of challenges.  Hopefully we are emerging from a recession and into a period of growth. So how are we going to make the most of any opportunities that come our way?

As a company we had come to a natural point of needing to set a new focus for the agency, having achieved what we set out to deliver three years back. We needed to ask ourselves some big questions; where is the industry going? where do we want to be as an agency? How are we going to get there?

So with the help of one of our clients, Paul Mitchell a skilled HR professional, we decided to take some time out as a team and take a bit of our own medicine. We held  a ‘communications day’. A time to share the new strategic objectives for the agency and get everyone involved in how we were going to make these objectives reality.

The day kicked off with a presentation on the key strategic objectives for the next three years by yours truly. Following that Paul split us into groups to do brainstorm and develop ideas. We’ve all seen this a million times at the events we run.  But it really is powerful stuff when you do it yourself and have 30 people working on one idea.

The day finished with a Q&A session with the management team. I can tell you they didn’t pull any punches.

We are all very busy people, but taking time out to step back and think – what are we really trying to achieve, get everyone to buy into that,  align with it and really energise people proved seriously valuable. I am the sort of person who thrives on change, but I know it can be scary for others. We came away from the day a stronger team, with a clear direction of where we were going and how we are going to get there. Ultimately that means a better result for clients and that is at the heart of everything we are trying to achieve.

I’d like to thank Paul again for his time in helping make this a success and I’m really looking forward to working with this great team of people and making our future happen.

The next step for us in the manifestation of this internal ambition externally and our new website is very much a part of that. You’ll see more in the near future.
