What Accountants Know

What do accountants bring to the table for charitable donations? I would like to make the case for a special kind of support, something that will help EVERY charity and something that comes naturally with accounting training and experience.

Building "Marketing Energy" in Your Firm - Include Everyone

When I speak with partners at firms across the country, one of the greatest challenges they face is the inability to build a robust marketing culture. Most accountants that I know are excellent at the delivery of technical and business advice to their clients. That's what they love to do, that's what they have been trained to do, and most are very good at it. But, they work with a 'silo' mentality - each focused on the specific needs of the clients they serve.

Another math challenge... what are the odds?

The odds of attending 19 Washington Nationals baseball games last season and watching them lose all 19 times were 1-in-131,204. This fact is according to Sports Illustrated in their story about such a man who witnessed these 19 woeful games. This story brought to mind a baseball math challenge that we had several months back.

Think Your Clients Use Your Firm's Website?

If you think your website exists primarily for clients, think again.

A lot of firms think about investing in pricey features that would be in a client-only portion of the website. Did you know that only about 1% of clients return to a firm’s site after hiring them? And when they do, it’s usually to find an address or phone number.

Firms think about adding a payment feature or a document storage tool where clients can get their electronic documents without bothering the firm to send copies. Yikes, how firm-centric are these ideas??

FASB Oversight Subject of Congressional Interest

As we previously reported, Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) introduced a bill earlier this year (HR 1349), which would create a Federal Accounting Oversight Board (FAOB). More recently, Rep. Gary Miller (R-CA) proposed an amendment to create a Financial Reporting Forum (FRF). The two legislative initiatives vary in terms of how much oversight power the recommended bodies would have over the FASB.
