Ace Boxing is back in 2012 and it is definitely is a New Beginning!

Lets start with the obvious one - Tyrone CYCLONE Tongia has begun 2012 in serious training mode and has jumped down a division from his preferred Light Middleweight to the Welterweight Class.

What will this bring? We don't know - but Tyrone is expecting more POWER more KNOCKOUTS and if possible more ACTION! That can only be a bonus for Australian boxing fans as Tyrone proved in 2011 that he is World Class and very worthy of the Australian Title he attained. The sky is the limit for the CYCLONE and ACE Boxing wants to be right there with him all of the way!

Secondly we have Shannon O'Connell making a brand new beginning as a Professional fighter. Shannon has been a stellar Amateur boxer under the guidance of Ace's favourite son Chris McCullen and she now takes her career to the next level. With the progress Women's boxing has taken in recent years Shannon's career will be worth following all the way to the top.

Thirdly Brett W Smith headlines this show with another defence of his Australian Title. Brett has a new trainer and a new outlook on Boxing. He is out to cement his position in Australian Lightweight rankings as the Top Dog and in 2012 is willing to take on all and sundry! Look out!

Terrible Trent Broadhurst takes on Josh Clenshaw for the vacant Australian Super Middleweight Title.

Broadhurst has risen quickly through Australian Boxings ranks and this fight will be the toughest assignment the talented youngster has faced. Josh Clenshaw is a seasoned fighter with 48 fights on his lengthy record, he featured in the hit series The Contender.

Omar BOOM BOOM Shaick continues his rise up the Australian boxing rankings Friday 15 April at the Mansfield Tavern when he challenges Tito Mwetupunga for the Australian Middleweight Title. Shaick has been ultra impressive in his first 9 fights with 8 wins and a close points loss to his credit. Mwetupunga is equally impressive with 12 wins from his 14 starts.

Fighting on the undercard but in what should be another main event is Josh King up against Jason Crowe for the Australian Light Welterweight Title which King currently holds.

The trio of main event fights is between 2 local QLD legends in Mick Shaw and Brett W Smith. Both boxers are regulars on Ace Boxing fight nights and will have the crowd pumped as they square off for the Australian Lightweight Title. Brett W Smith won this title back in December and is eager to defend while Shaw on the other hand is the old stager and former Champion who would love to stand once again centre ring as the Aussie Champ.

On the under card is Trent Broadhurst - current QLD Super Middleweight champion, he is matched to fight Aaron Ross.

The Junk Yard Dog Aaron Russell ends of the main undercard. He is fresh from a fantastic win over Abmarir Singh last week (11.3.11) and will be looking to continue his winning ways. The army of support Russell brings is electrifying!

Double Detonation proves to be a night of mixed emotions

Phillip Holiday pictured below has won the Australian Title in magnificent fashion with a split points decision over Jason Kanofski last night at the Mansfield Tavern.

The judges had differing opinions which showed how close this fight really was.

Congratulations to Phillip Holiday and his emotional celebration in centre ring proves just how much this Title meant to him.

In the other Australian Title fight Shane McConville remained Phil Maley's nemesis with another victory over him. The judges once again scored the fight very close with 2 judges giving the fight to Shane and the other having it a draw.

Biggest loser ensures the chance to become big winner!

Melbourne based Johannes Mwetupunga hopped onto the scales tonight and weighed 74.3 kilos at his first attempt to make the Middleweight limit of 72.5 kg. He then reappeared just before the 2 hr time limit expired to record a staggering 2.15 kilogram loss, making the weight limit with just minutes to spare. Trainer Murray Thompson said" timed to perfection" - as he appluaded the feat. Time will only tell as his charger now has less than 24 hrs to recover and regain the weight.

Jason Hartmann was cool and collected as he easily made the weight and looked possibly in the best shape of his life at 72.2 kilograms. Asked about his chances - he was confident but gave respect to his opponent for having great boxing skills.

Cyclone Tongia looked to be peaking absolutely to perfection when he came just under the weight limit, his opponent Andrew Gosden was all business as he showed 69.45 kilos on the scales.

In close to the WAR of the night Wayne Parsons and Cody Philp put on the classiest display from two boxers on debut QLD boxing has witnessed for many years!

Neither fighter deserved to lose and I imagine neither will for quite some time to follow.

Ace Boxing predicts that the fight between Cody Philps ( former Global Boxing Amateur star ) and Wayne Parsons ( the KO kid from QABAI ) is going to be one of those fights!

Philps had everyones measure in Global and will go into this fight with activity and fitness on his side.

Parsons has inactivity to overcome with around 4 years passing since his last bout over 4 X 2 minute rounds. Those who witnessed his fight against Michael Katisidis in the amateurs know he has power in his right arm most boxers would kill for.

Ace Boxings tradition of putting together the best that Australian Heavyweight fights has to offer continued tonight at the Mansfield Tavern with Soloman Houmono over coming Micheal Kirby in the tenth round by TKO. Houmono was sharp accurate and took the brunt of a relentless Rhino for 9 rounds until the opening arrived and he took it swiftly by landing multiple heavy hands leaving referee Brad Vocale no choice but to call the fight to a dramatic end.

Iron Rhino fought the style of fight he wanted but was frustrated by Houmono's defence and after the fight said to Soloman " I just couldn't land a clean one on you brother - you are a cunning son of gun". Or words to that effect ;)
