Children miss more days of school every year due to asthma than any other illness Nearly 1 in 10 children in the U.S. have asthma 8.9 million children have been diagnosed with asthma Asthma is the third-ranking cause of childhood hospitalizations under the age of 15 The purpose of Family Asthma Day is to improve asthma self-management skills and awareness for children with asthma and their families and to strengthen the partnership between the medical community, families and schools in working with children who have asthma. The Suncoast Pediatric Asthma Coalition is working to improve children's health in our community. We are a group of concerned parents, health care providers, educators and others. Our coalition is an advocate for children and families who deal with asthma daily.

Child & Babysitter Safety Program

Event Date: 05/17/2008 9:00 AM The one-day program is designed for young teens ages 11-14 who are interested in becoming babysitters. Participants will learn the basics of caring for children such as changing a diaper, feeding infants and toddlers, how to calm an upset child, and much more. Participants will also learn the importance of responsibility, how to recognize an emergency, personal safety tips, and basic first aid and fire safety. This all-day course will help babysitters build their self-confidence as caretakers, as well as teach them many necessary skills to care for children properly.
