Where did Summer go? Did we even have a Summer? Light nights til 10 no more!

The dark nights have approached far too fast for me, it's quite upsetting. Please folks, be visible when your out pounding the pavements at night. Decorate your running gear with lots of flashing lights, 3M reflective patches or invest in a bright, ridiculously visible fluro jacket.

I thought I would share Saucony's new range of superbly visible but still technical running gear - ViZi-PRO.

ViZi-PRO stands for VIZI-ble PROtection and uses the only colour to be approved by the American Standards Institute photochromatic tests. What does that mean? That you'll almost be visible from space. Just kidding, but you know what I mean.

It also includes Saucony's built-in safety LED system. Sewn into a reflective, elastic holster on the cuff of the jacket is a 300-500 candlepower LED light (equivalent to a car headlight) which flashes while you're running, making you even more VIZI-ble to other road users.

Loch Ness Marathon round up

Well done to everyone that ran this years Loch Ness Marathon and 10K.

Katie and Stefan both ran well. Stefan knocked a huge 1hr off his previous time giving him a new PB of 3hrs 45min. Katie's tasks were to stay injury free throughout their training after a few years of on-going niggles and pace Stefan round the course which worked a treat. Well done both!

I would also like to congratulate Sam (my big sis) and Stefan on their engagement post-marathon on the Sunday night.....congratulations, weyhey! A fantastic ending to a great weekend.

Loch Ness Marathon

Good luck to everyone thats taking part in this weekends Loch Ness Marathon! Hope all of you who have been training hard have managed to avoid the common cold which has been doing the rounds of late. Avoiding the cold wet weather however may prove more difficult. We have our fingers crossed for dry running conditions! Two members from the achilles heel team are running - Katie and Stefan so give them a shout if you see them....good luck!

I'll get some pictures posted of the event as soon as Katie and Stefan arrive back.

Stirling 10K

Well done to the 800+ runners that took part in this year's Stirling 10k.

In a race dominated by the Shettleston Eritrean team, and won by Tsegai Tewelde in a new course record of 29:07, one second faster than last year, the mild weather conditions appear to have brought out the best in the competitors, with many runners hitting PBs.

Ayr's Toni McIntosh continued her excellent form, beating Central's Alison Docherty by 40 seconds to finish first women in 35:08.

The painful side of running (for men)

For men, the most painful side to running isn't hitting the wall after seventeen miles, nor is it the burn of speed reps... it's bloody nipples. I'm sure every male runner out there (and who knows? maybe even some females too!) has experienced the excruciating nipple chaff of an ill-fitting vest and lots of sweat!

Great Scottish Run 2009
