ATB is perfectly located in an isolated bay with great hiking, kayaking, and biking opportunities for adventurers of all levels. Whether it was climbing the ridge in the backyard or playing Mary Jane's guitar on the beach, I always found something wonderful to do every day.
Being at Kasitsna Bay is an experience of its own and offers endless natural beauty surrounding the tent and breakfast. I find myself constantly craving the fresh salmon and halibut that Tony cooked just about every evening. The accomodations are rustic, and the warm showers are fantastic.
My favorite aspect of Across The Bay is the opportunity to kayak in new places all within a very close vicinity. Nothing compares to an afternoon kayaking out in the islands while spotting porpoises and otters with a group of great people.

The Dream of Across the Bay begins...

At six years old I knew that I wanted to travel and the magic began when I was 8. My parents and I vacationed every summer, for fifteen years, in Ontario, Canada. Golden's Camp was in the La Cloche lake system that was surrounded by pristine wilderness. The kids and the people in and around Willisville introduced me to mountains, (hills really), lakes, rivers, forests, waterfalls and black black nights with a zillion stars.
Our accommodations were rustic: log cabins, outhouses, no electricity, no running water and a fabulous lodge with laughter and lots of good smells eminating from the kitchen. The experiences had a profound effect on my life.

After graduating from college in Indiana I chose to teach school in Alaska. After two years my friend and I quit our jobs, donned very small backpacks and with not much money set off to traveled for eighteen months. We went by ship, train, foot and mostly by hitch hiking. We visited thirty three countries that time around. The count to date is about sixty six countries.

In 1993, after I retired from teaching, I started, with the help of my wonderful family, Across the Bay Tent and Breakfast as a pay it forward thank you to all the people throughout the world who have enriched my life.

Welcome to Across the Bay!

We have been hosting fun and adventurous travellers for over 17 years. From backpackers to bankers, guests have visited us from over 50 countries around the world. We enjoy travelling ourselves, and have the desire to return some of the hospitality we have received over the years. One of our goals has been to create a peaceful haven to escape the stresses of work, city life, and travelling.

Our location is on the southern shore of pristine Kachemak Bay, Alaska. Seldovia is 8 miles from us on the Jakalof Bay road. Our neighbors are sea otters, eagles, whales, wild salmon, and so many more.
So many friendships have been made by guests staying with us. Being a small, family owned and operated business, we have enjoyed having families return year after year, and it has been fun to watch them grow over time. Conversely, it has been fun to share our changes and improvements with them.

The goal of this blog is to share some of our world with armchair travellers, old friends, and new friends that we have not met yet. We hope you enjoy reading about our little piece of paradise, and are able to come visit some day.
