Alien Rage has been announced by City Interactive, which was previously being worked on as Alien Fear. The game was previously believed to be a console exclusive but PC version has been confirmed for this game now, along came a new trailer:

“Alien Rage is a hardcore sci-fi shooter. It has the DNA of the best classical FPS games together with stunning graphics that will provide long hours of satisfactory gameplay. It also includes a rich arsenal of weapons, various firing modes, 21 types of enemies including 8 bad-ass bosses – Alien Rage is true arcade FPS in a big way!”

The game very much looks something like Hard Reset, and graphics do look top notch. But purely old school is something which looks good in text, but gamers have evolved a lot since then and Hard Reset is one example which was a superb old school game but it was doomed because of being too simple. And in comparison look at titles like Far Cry 3 or Bioshock Infinite or Deus Ex or Dishonored; all of these rose to honorable levels because they did something new. And even though we may love the word “Old School”, but we don’t like to play Old school games, and that is evolution.

In any case check the 3 released lovely screenshots below:

After a 4 year absence, the next Guilty Gear has finally been announced as “XRD -SIGN-” (don’t ask me what that means).
Guilty Gear X2 was released on PC, and so we can all hope that this new iteration will find its way a PC release too along with console counter parts, filling a big void in beat ‘em up games on PC.

Obsidian Entertainment, famous for their Bioware helping projects such as Star Wars: Knights of Old Republic 2 has announced that they will be co-developing Skyforge, an MMORPG announced a year ago as being in development at Allods Team who brought us one of the most well known F2P MMORPG: Allods Online. This will help bring some good old story base and AAA roots to the game.

Ron Gilbert, or more famously known as Grumpy Gamer and developer of original Monkey Island games has announced his latest project: Scurvy Scallwags. This is an iOS project from Beep Games, Inc., and is coined as “the match-3 musical, pirate RPG you’ve been waiting for!”.

Although its not “Monkey Island” themed but the developer has stuck to his roots and at least its “Pirate” themed and tries to keep its sense of humor in tact.

The game is going to offer a good bit of depth when compared to the usual match-3 experience, with customizable characters, special powers, and the ability to build your own pirate ship.

The full first trailer of Batman: Arkham Origins is here and even though it looks just great I feel sad that they decided to do it all in CGI. I thought we were past beyond that age when games needed CGI to attract people rather than actual in-game engine. But it does make me happy also to see that how much in-game graphics have room of improvement yet to one day look like this. Next-gen consoles are almost here.. maybe that time isn’t far away.

In any case enjoy the trailer below with the important information that pre-order bonus is: playable Deathstroke.

My theory is that Dinosaurs make everything more fun. But sadly my theory is proven wrong by Dino Horde as there was not much to start with in this game so Dinosaurs didn’t help much to make it any better. On paper the design looks cool Dinosaurs vs Soldiers in jetpacks; but sadly the premises never went beyond that.

The game is actually an upgraded version of Orion: Dino Beatdown which had got pretty bad reviews. So, the developer reworked on the title and instead of just patches, released it under a new name to indicate the major advancements done on the title. Some people did complain that it was a rip-off but to eb honest I think its quite fair since they released the game for free for previous owners of Dino Beatdown. In any case I had not personally played the original game, so my review is based on the content I got to experience in this new version without any comparison of past version.

The game presents a simple setup of Marines vs Dinosaurs multiplayer focused, old school arena shooter. Even though there are multiple game modes e.g. Survival mode where you try to keep your generators operated while dino horde attacks, then there is a collect the egg more where you would have to return back 3 eggs from dino nests back to your spawn while all the dinos combine forces to stop you etc. But even in presence of such variety there the overall game is still pretty basic and feels the same routine of killing the dinosaurs without much thought or strategy.

The game features different classes of marines and dinosaurs but these are limited to game type that you select to play, which isn’t a decision I am in favor off. Your weapons of marines or abilities of dinos abilities vary with each class. Although T-rex was a guaranteed edition in any game featuring dinosaurs but my favorite dinos do remain the flying raptors which if attack properly have the ability to grab and fly you up in the air and throw you down for instant deaths. Well there isn’t any instant death, you just enter a state of “fight back”, where you are limited to pistol and limited time to make a kill. If you make the kill then your health recovers.

The game is designed as a pure multiplayer game leaving no story, no singleplayer (bots play). The game does throw you inside and expects you to understand it (which isn’t that difficult) but still it would have been nice to have some AI bots to play with since the servers are not that trafficked. Your best bet would be finding some friends to play it with for some fun but I wouldn’t recommend it given the pretty simple setup which will soon make you regret investing in the game.

Graphically the game is as unimpressive as the rest of the game. Even though built on UDK, the game still fails to impress at any thing. From the low polygon dinosaurs, to unimpressive levels composed always of hills and foilage. The textures are dull and I would have love to see some rippling shiny skin of dinosaurs with moody lights to make you jump out of your boots when dinos spring on you in the night mode levels but sadly not even a single such moment existed in the game.

Overall it just saddens me that the game never achieved its potential it wanted to aim. Its a playable game but feels something more suitable a decade ago but out dated now. The cooperation required is unimaginitive in the game. The music turns annoying, the graphics are dull. The AI of non-human dinosaurs is buggy. These aren’t something which a simple patch can fix in few days. Maybe the game could have been a free 2 play title, but for current asked price the gameplay doesn’t justify the investment.

Square Enix had decided to re-release Final Fantasy 7 on PC but sadly it was just a re-release with no upgradation or HD treatment. last year. But Final Fantasy 8 will get the HD treatment and will be released on PC. FF7 and FF8 are the only single player final fantasies released on PC and I do wonder why they don’t tackle any of modern Final fantasy games for PC do-over rather than bringing FF8 back from dead.

Sadly based on by FF7 experience I wouldn’t be too hopeful about this HD treatment as FF8 engine supported 2D backdrops on which 3D characters could move on defined paths.. I don’t expect that to change. Moreover the blocky polygons (of in-game characters) will still remain low poly and the textures might get some enhancement but with rest of old school things, only textures might not cut the deal. My point being a modern gamer may not even notice that something was changed or not.

They should have spent the extra time and effort on porting FF10 or FF13 etc. to PC instead for better interest of modern gamers.

One of the things that console’s always say about PC gaming is that PC costs a lot more than a console. But we here at ActionRadius office fail to see them in the eye and we set out to make our own upcoming PS4 and wanted to see how much would it cost us to build our very own PS4? Do note following comparison is based on “assumed” or “expected” price of PS4 since it has not been confirmed officially.

Since PS3 was not a x86 based machine using CELL processor so it was hard to compare it with current PCs but since future consoles will be in reality a mini-PC with x86 processor and AMD based graphic cards so its same easy to make an equivalent PC as we did in following comparison table:

A few things need explanation.

First of all we know the RAM is only part where we don’t have a comparable item in PC line. PS4 is to feature a GDDR5 but such motherboards and RAMs are not “yet” there for PC, so we chose DDR3 instead. But that is the beauty of PC that in a few months you can expect motherboard makers bringing out motherboards and commercial GDDR5 rams for use. So, then even here PC will go beyond PS4 in power.

PS4 features a generation old 3D card in its system and already PC’s Radeon 79990 and Geforce GTX Titan are far more powerful than PS4′s offering.

Next thing is the game’s pricing. One thing console gamers always forget is that console games cost more than PC games. e.g. a local visit to Jarir (one of biggest games retail shop in Middle East) will reveal that PC games cost around SR.50 less than console games. In reality too most of the time a $60 game on console just costs $50 on PC. The reason being that on console publishers have to pay royalty fee to console developers to cover their licensing cost as well as to recover cost of selling console at cheaper initial cost. So, in reality as our estimate in just 1 year PC and PS4 costs are balanced out.

Once you have balanced your cost in one year, you can always invest in better hardware. Many confuse that PC needs to be constantly updated. It may have been true pre-X360 era, but now its not true. Its optional if you want to enjoy games in better graphics than consoles. But if you want same quality then just like closed non-upgradable consoles, you can stick with same PC. Keeping PC upgraded does give you advantage that you would enjoy much newer technologies e.g. Nvidia’s PhysX is something very old now to PC gamers, but console gamers have never ever experienced it. Same is for true for AMD’s TressFX. That is the advantage of being a PC gamer that you don’t have to wait for 5 years to experience something new.

Last but not least, PC games enjoy such sales which consoles never afford. There are not only sales on PC hardware which you can enjoy but also real nice deals on games e.g. on Steam. These are not limited to old titles, mostly you can find new games on great deals also. So, these savings also contribute to a much wiser investment in a PC

Of course all of this is our opinion being a PC “Fan boy” site. There would be counter-arguments to this, can you come up with any?

Can you think about a game whose main mechanic revolves around “Farting”? Well if you have never thought about it then no worries as “Casual Brothers” have done it for you by announcing “Orc Attack: Flatulent Rebellion”. And as the name reflects the biological warfare featured in the upcoming action game for Windows, PlayStation Network, and Xbox LIVE.

The game features four co-op playable characters: Sir Sniff, Doc Turd, Lord Poop, and Friar Krap, “each equipped with special fart-blasting abilities to out-stink their opponents,” which are shown off in this new trailer.

The gameplay looks a bit boring if you ask me with simple hack and slash. But if farting is what interests you as the right tool to kill your enemies then support this title @ Steam Greenlight
