Hey everyone,

For a limited time “Winter Child” by Wowser Child is available for FREE!

“Like most bloggers, most days (with the possible exception of public holidays but even then…), I find numerous emails in my inbox, politely begging me to check out another act. Here is another example of when this didn’t simply get added to the pile to work through (or deleted because I got a follow up email).

Wowser Bowser hail from Atlanta. Consisting of George Pettis (vocals, keyboards & synths, drum programming, and arrangements), Jake Thomson (vocals, keyboards & synths, guitar, live drums, drum programming, arrangements) and Joe Crabb (trumpet and background vocals), they meld the best bits of 21st century experimentalism with a 1980s pop sensibility. Once upon a time, this music might have seemed out of place – but in a world where Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ can become a worldwide no.1 hit (deservedly so), and people can open up their minds to stuff (hopefully without the hipsters trying to confuse us over what we can and can’t like this week), there time could well be now. I hope so.

This was the track that popped into my inbox…

I know precious little about Wowser Bowser. I have no idea whether they are trending on twitter, being pitched on Pitchfork or spun in the offices of Spin. I care not, particularly. But I do want you to check them out!” – 17 Seconds

This is the fourth single from Lungs, Dirts & Dreams and is titled Restless Roads End. It is a more muscular track, a song that slowly stretches, flexes and simmers over five minutes while the band keep expertly keep a lid on the instrumentation and don’t allow it to escape its restraints completely.” – The Mad Mackeral

hey Everyone,

Please take a minute to listen to “Lungs, Dirt & Dreams” by Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifters. It is the title track from their BRAND NEW full length album.

“It likely won’t come as much of a surprise, but Damon Moon and the Whispering Drifters’ sophomore full-length, Lungs, Dirt & Dreams, is my early front-runner for local album of the year. I know it’s only February and there’s a lot of potentially great music looming, but nothing I’ve heard yet comes close to matching this record’s haunting atmosphere and balance of the bleak with the beautiful. The title track serves as the perfect entryway into the album (following the 30-second instrumental opener “June 22nd, AR”) with Moon’s hypnotic whisper set against a stark guitar strum and some flourishes of psychedelic noise. On its own it would make for a chilling bit of ghostly songwriting, but when the drums finally drop and the Floydian guitar theatrics kick in, it becomes a pulsing, shimmering rocker bristling with heartbreak and tension. Give it a listen below and then head over to Moon’s Bandcamp page where you can download Lungs, Dirt & Dreams for $9.99.

As for the video, it’s a beautifully shot and cinematic work that does an excellent job of capturing the song’s black mood. Directed, edited and filmed by Allister Reynolds and assisted by Daniel Richards, the visuals gives you plenty of what you would want and expect—lots of footage of dirt and digging, along with a wild-eyed Damon Moon looking bewildered and beleaguered with his epically long and flowing beard in tow. Money.” – Latest Disgrace

Hey Everyone,

Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifters new album “Lungs, Dirt & Dreams” will be released on Tuesday, February 21st, 2012.

Lungs, Dirt & Dreams by Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifters

“There’s something dark and eerie about the opening tracks of Damon Moon’s new LP, Lungs, Dirt & Dreams. The title track flirts with dreamy guitars, but not in the sense of the pleasant atmospheric; rather they echo through the darkness, seemingly coming from every direction. And then there’s Moon’s soft vocals somewhere between a mystery and a (surprise, surprise) whisper.

This continues throughout Lungs, Dirt & Dreams.

In a way, the album is a bit conceptual. Songs blend into each other, many of varying length from less than a minute to just over seven. They, too, range from borderline folky (“The Fool” and “Gild The Lily”) to wild with epic noisy shoegaze (“Restless Roads End”).

But there is more. The sounds are all great, but dive into the metaphysical nature of what Damon Moon has put into his lyrics and you’ll be transported to a different plane of existence. It took a while for that realization to strike, but it was the instrumental “Robert Pirsig’s Blues” that did it (the title). Pirsig, of course, being the author of the brilliant Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Within Lungs, Dirt & Dreams are twelve songs that aren’t entirely songs, rather experiences frozen in time that blend together like faded memories into that which makes up the life of a man. It’s a miraculous thing, what Damon Moon and The Whispering Drifters have created. Plush with experimentation, ripe with emotion, and filled with all the angst, love, heartbreak and hopelessness we all experience from day to day.” Fense Post

————————————————————————————————————-

“This is the second album from Damon Moon and the Whispering Drifters although the band has also released three EPs (Burlap, The Holy Noise, & Snowed In Sessions). Lungs, Dirt & Dreams was recorded in a remote cabin on a mountain near Tiger, Georgia…and thus rather appropriately it seems to capture the feeling and idea of naturally produced organic and electric sound. Damon and his friends aren’t making music that capitalizes on the latest gimmicks and digital effects. This is classic timeless music made with traditional instruments. Some of the tunes remind us somewhat of the 1990s band Varnaline. While these songs could probably best be described as rock, they are by no means formulaic. The compositions have slight droning qualities and the well-crafted guitars add just the right amount of extra zest. We particularly like the fact that the vocals sound like a real person singing rather than ten perfectly processed overdubs. Nothing but keepers here. Our initial favorites are “June 22nd, AR,” “Lungs, Dirt & Dreams,” “The Fool,” and “We Make Our Own Traditions.” Smart music with integrity.” – Baby Sue Magazine

“Lungs, Dirt & Dreams” will be released on Tuesday, February 21st.

Plush with experimentation, ripe with emotion, and filled with all the angst, love, heartbreak and hopelessness we all experience from day to day.” – Fensepost

Hey everyone,

We are PROUD to announce that Wowser Bowser’s debut self titled album is being released today!

Wowser Bowser by Wowser Bowser

“If you’re one of the many in this town who have become disenchanted with music choked by irony and self-aware detachment, Wowser Bowser are here to help you. The foursome’s unique blend of dreamy, psychedelic rock and emphatically upbeat synthpop is steeped in wonder and enchantment and their self-titled debut—out today via Adair Park Recordings—snaps with youthful vigor. It’s a surprisingly diverse and dense recording, one that provides a litany of layers and electronic headphone candy to help flesh out the group’s joyously unrestrained songs. But most importantly, it’s music that demands you uncross your arms, and dares you to stand still. The band’s live shows—part dance party, part balloon-strewn carnival—are as much an event as they are a performance, and local audiences have responded with a wide-eyed enthusiasm that is both rare and refreshing.” – Latest Disgrace

“Wowser Bowser traffics in fun. There’s a high level of craftmanship in everything they do, but the end result is a distilled shot of dance-pop bliss. It’s not something that should really be overanalyzed.” – Little Advances

“Atlanta’s Wowser Bowser sound kind of like a cross between Throw Me The Statue and the Shout Out Louds to me, which is good because I love both of those bands, and I really dig the synth-infused vibe this southern quartet have going on. “E Dialeda Ho” begins with a buzz and beat that would fit on any club track, and then we get some twinkling keyboards. Add the vocals of lead singer George Pettis — meandering from softspoken to joyously loud sing-along style — and you’ve got a beautifully melodic, beat-driven track that holds up under the weight of repeated listens.” – The Wounded Jukebox

Enjoy!

“First time I heard the name Wowser Bowser I couldn’t help thinking that this had to be a novelty act. But it’s not. Actually Woswer Bowser writes some pretty good pop songs; despite the horrible band name! Someone somewhere (cannot recall where) compared them to Shout Out Louds. Which actually is a pretty good (that’s lots of actually and pretty good’s) comparison! Check them out!” – Hits In The Car

Hey Everyone,

Adair Park recordings is proud to release the FIRST unreleased track from Wowser Bowser’s upcoming self titled debut. The song is entitled “To The Pleasant Life!”.

The album will be released on January, 24th, 2012.

“Details on Wowser Bowser’s debut LP are a bit scarce; so far all we know is that it will be released sometime this January via Adair Park Recordings. Well, that and the fact that the album’s first single, “Water Story” is a stellar psych-pop effort that ranks among the year’s best local tracks. But aside from that we know very little — no release date, no production notes, no album artwork or tracklist have yet to be revealed.

However, at least now we can take comfort in the knowledge that “Water Story” was no one-time fluke. Yesterday, Adair Park unveiled Wowser Bowser’s second single, “October,” and while it doesn’t have quite the same air of lush, abstract dreaminess that made “Water Story” so enthralling, the track’s impeccable production and swooning melodies make it nearly as infectious. These kids seem to have a knack for creating beautiful, billowing pop songs that lift you up and let your mind drift into a kind of soothing oblivion. Whether the remainder of the record lives up to the promises of the first two singles remains to be seen, but something tells me we’ll be hearing a whole lot about Wowser Bowser in 2012.” – Latest Disgrace

“Did you know that Atlanta synth-tendo act Wowser Bowser is set to release its debut full-length sometime in January via local label Adair Park Recordings? It’s true! Below, you can hear a newly-leaked track from said record. It’s called “October,” and it’s pretty spiffy!

There are definitely some later-period Animal Collective vibes afoot, certain Washed Out-y tones maybe, but the song is brisk enough – skittery drum track all wound up, vocals clean and crisp – to mitigate any reckless bandying about of the dreaded “C”-word. (No, not that “C”-word.)” – Gabe Vodicka / Creative Loafing Atlanta

Hey everyone,

Adair Park Recordings is proud to announce that “Seasonal Suite No. 62″ from the new upcoming Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifters album entitled “Lungs, Dirt & Dreams” is now available.

“Damon Moon and the Whispering Drifters’ second full-length, Lungs, Dirt and Dreams, isn’t slated to materialize until Feb. 21 via Adair Park Recordings, but earlier this week the label leaked “Seasonal Suite No. 62” as the first look at what the group has been up to over the last several months. This latest number from Moon and Co. is cut from the same rustic darkness as anything they’ve crafted in the past, but it also hints at a more experimental side of the group that was captured back in March/April when they retreated to the North Georgia mountain town called Tiger to record.

Here the lush, full-bodied sound, the aching lap steel, and Sydney Eloise Ward’s sparse vocal textures conjure up a dreamlike and fatalistic hue that transcends gothic Americana by settling into a wilting ambiance that’s both haunting and hypnotic as it pulls at your heart strings.” – Chad Radford / Creative Loafing Atlanta

“There are few in the musical world who can blend experimental folk, psychedelia and old time country as perfectly as Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifters.” – The Mad Mackerel
