Dejunking our life

We don't have to do anything physical to begin with - just make a few adjustments in the mind - tinker with the projector and then what is projected will begin to transform.

Dejunking our Life

There is a certain joy that arises when we have a clear out.

Letting go of junk and stuff that we don't need.

I used to work on a farm and the farmers wife had two large warehouses full of junk. Peoples unwanted stuff. It was incredible to see.
My friend works full time in a tip everyday he sees mountains of stuff being thrown and crushed.
Walking around Bristol just after Christmas folk had cleared out the Christmas waste and had piled it up outside for collection the following morning. Piles of junk.

Its funny straight after Christmas there is the surge to consume a bit more for the New Year.
To buy more junk.
Peoples attics are full of junk.
Stuff which was new and glittering becomes unwanted and junk.
At what point does it become junk?

There is a very close relationship between our world and our mind - if there is junk in our mind then there will certainly be junk in the world in which we reside.

So how to dejunk our life?

It would seem obvious we have a clear out - but its strange because the junk comes back and before you know it your having to have another clear out. Why?
The junk is still in the mind and like attracts like. Junk in the mind is like a magnet which attracts stuff.

If we are not so wealthy then perhaps our junk has less glitter about it - junk is junk - stuff is stuff regardless of whether it was from the pound shop or the Apple Store.

What do we actually need in our life to survive?
Nothing from a High Street in the centre of a city or town.

So why are there always so many people congregating in these areas?!

Dejunking our life begins with taking a good look in the mind and letting go of the junk - the rest will follow naturally.

We don't have to do anything physical to begin with - just make a few adjustments in the mind - tinker with the projector and then what is projected will begin to transform.

Beginning each morning with wish and intention to let go.

In meditation make this happen - then simply keep making this happen.

Postscript:
Prior to posting this I Googled the word 'dejunk' to see what other thoughts were out there. An article from one of England biggest papers which stated:
'clear out the physical clutter and the mental mess will take care of itself.'

This is a common view but as mentioned above the stuff will keep coming back. Like weeding the garden and not taking the nettles out from the root - they simple grow back.
Its a materialistic approach to dejunking - this article is offering something a little different...

What would the world look like now if during every meeting there was a period of meditation and silence?!

Yesterday I was invited to a meeting of representatives from local volunteer and charity organizations - hosted at the WCRFM

A pleasure to make connections with such inspirational people in the area.

They wanted an introduction to Mind Space and a guided meditation.

I find no pleasure greater than bringing meditation to people who have not meditated before and introducing it in settings where there has been no previous practice.

We all sat around a large conference table - around 25 people; I introduced the work that Mind Space is doing and explained the process of practicing meditation.

We then sat for around 20 minutes engaged in meditation.

Parts of the meditation was spoken, guided instruction but lots of space also for them to enjoy the silence they had created.

There was a special atmosphere created in the room a positive experience for everybody to take with into the rest of the day.

There was a representative from the local blind centre - he enjoyed the session and had come with his guide dog. The guide dog was incredibly well-behaved and quiet - apart from the occasional contented chew! The dog seemed to enjoy the session and had a slightly glazed look at the end. At the end of the meeting I went over to greet the dog and tell him what a good job he had done during the session...

My first experience of guiding a session with a dog attending - and hopefully not the last.

The guy from the blind centre said that he hopes that we can come and visit the centre and deliver some sessions for their group...

After the session we had a group discussion about the benefits of meditation and the importance of bringing silence into our day.

What would the world look like now if during every meeting there was a period of meditation and silence?!

The beauty of the City of London is that no matter how busy it is there are always quiet places you can go to, gather your breath and unwind...its wonderful parks; which everyone can discover, enjoy and relax in.

The beauty of the City of London is that no matter how busy it is there are always quiet places you can go to, gather your breath and unwind...its wonderful parks; which everyone can discover, enjoy and relax in.

At the end of the Autumn 2011 with the most of the leaves fallen from the trees we meditated in Russell Square Park, located in Bloomsbury in the borough of Camden, Central London, and filmed its beautiful park for your enjoyment.

Film coming tomorrow.

The parks of London are the perfect place to enjoy a meditation session -

Nothing better than a meditation outside...especially on a sharp, clear November morning.

Russell Square is a beautiful spot which is steeped in history and has witnessed millions of people enjoy its beauty and serenity including many distinguished writers, heads of state, artists, scholars...

After unwinding during a meditation session or a relax in the park take your experience back into your life and share with others...

“Peace be with you.”

In Tibetan the word for prayer is Monlam which is literally translated as ’a wish’.

To wish for someone to be at peace...is a prayer. To wish, that's all.

Yesterday I delivered two talks on behalf of Water Aid.

Usually these talks take place in schools - this time however I was talking in two churches during their harvest service.

All the monies taken from the Harvest would be donated to Water Aid. Members of the congregation baked home-made pies and brought in home-grown vegetables. A delight for the eye, a table full of fresh food donated by the community, then bought by the same community all supporting the developing global community to have access to clean water and sanitation.

The service took around 45 minutes with the Water Aid talk taking up around 20 minutes. I shared with the congregation the incredible work Water Aid is accomplishing throughout the world & where their monies would be going.

Water Aid state that £15 will provide one person with access to clean water and sanitation.

It has been many years since I have sat through a Christian service. Those of you who are familiar, will know there is a point during the service where you turn to the congregation and express your wishes for them to be at peace "peace be with you".

You greet as many people as you can - shake their hands look into their eye and say “peace be with you.”
A beautiful moment to share.

In Arabic they say 'As-Salamu `Alaykum' meaning the same.

In Nepal they say 'Namaste' and clasp their hands together at their heart - ‘from my heart to yours’
Very beautiful expressions of the heart.

People of faith make prayers for others to be at peace.

Prayer is often misunderstood and is looked down on by modern day critical thinkers.

In Tibetan the word for prayer is Monlam which is literally translated as ’a wish’.

To wish for someone to be at peace...is a prayer. To wish, that's all.

Why do we have to wait till someone dies before we wish peace upon them?

“Peace be with you.”
