Soft Light

I love going for natural light, although as most of my tea setups are done with the window behind so I can look outside while I drink tea, the lighting is seldom good for photographs. While I know a lot of people swear by natural light when taking photographs, I love a mildly overcast day. It seems to always soften the light which can be especially helpful when working with items with glossy surfaces such as a lot of my teaware.

Yosemite part 2

Here are photos taken in Yosemite National park, the first being the Moon over El Capitain, the second a picture with both Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls, the last of a Steller's Blue Jay. All of which were taken with a digital SLR camera.

Each of these photos was taken with my Sony Alpha Digital SLR camera. Again for sake of being able to focus on items quickly, these were taken using the only lens I have that has a working auto-focus feature, so while most of these photos make it look like I am quite close to the items, in reality as I am using a huge zoom lens, I am standing six to eight feet away, and using the lens' ability to zoom to get so close.

Here are my favorite shots from my morning at Muir Woods in California.

I was using an incredibly huge lens as it is the only one I have whose auto-focus feature is not broken, and for the sake of speed/ time to not hold up my family too much while shooting, I needed to go with the auto-focus.

Fun with Tripod

I recently got a small tripod and while light has been my biggest issue recently, I can now take shots with longer shutter speeds to adjust for the lack of light.

Tea Photos

These photos are a byproduct of me getting to know my camera's settings better and better. Mostly in ways to control light by getting a good balance of ISO, Aperture, and shutter speed settings. I am still working towards saving up a new lens.

Relaxing Cup.

Something about this photo just does it for me, possibly the contrast of textures, and gloss, but the colors almost blending together wonderfully. Although I will say it took quite a bit of time messing around with the settings on my DSLR and playing with the Aperture settings.

I do not know if its the ultra dark colored center of the photo, filled with dark twisted forms in an incredibly withered look, combined with it being framed in bright colors that makes me like this photo.

Saving up for a New Lens

I am still trying to get used to a camera that was gifted to me this past Christmas, it being a DSLR Sony Alpha camera with its original lens. While when the stars align it takes absolutely wonderful pictures, I will say it has me dealing with far to many settings, especially since I am forced to use it in manual mode due to a broken auto focus mechanism in the lens. So I have been busy reading websites describing the features of lens' so I can choose the best lens for my uses. As I mostly take pictures of tea and teaware, and flowers, I am leaning towards a Macro lens. Though its quite difficult to find a variety of them to choose from so it best suits my needs. This is in part due to the fact that the Sony Alpha camera's have a special Alpha Mount.

Sometimes some eye catching photos happen by mistake, which explains why this photo is slightly out of focus. I was trying to focus on the design on the forward side of the cup, while seeing if I could pick up any hints of the steam rising from the cup. But the real accident about the piece that makes it so hard to recreate is, while using the flash, and having it on my knee to keep the camera steady, my left hand was controlling the focus and zoom but instead of from below the camera like usual, it was on top. So I snapped the photo with my hand partially obscuring the flash.

It gives the appearance of the cup being almost stuck in a beam of sunlight.

Playing with a DSLR

So my mother got this camera several years ago for Christmas, but this past summer, the auto focus feature for the lens she would use most often broke. Not entirely sure why she did not just get a new lens, although I think she really liked the lens she had, but due to reviews highly believe it would just happen again. As it is not a problem with the camera body, but rather the gearing inside the lens is not strong enough to handle the stress placed on it by the Motor in the Camera body.

Right now my hardest problem is getting the light settings correct, as all my photos turn out darker than I would like them to be, even if they are not bad. So I usually have to brighten them slightly with a photo program.

An almost decent picture

While the focus of this photo the tea leaves are not all that bad, in fact they are in focus, and decently lit, the lighting and the backdrop make this photo only mediocre at best. I feel should there have been a darker background other than this pink shino cup the background would have not under this much light become so over exposed and incredibly white washed, and rather harsh looking. Though I have a bit of a problem involving decent lighting in my new apartment.

Wild Flowers in South Dakota or Wyoming

I was browsing through my photos and noticed this shot, something about its colors just work for me. I want to say that this was taken in Wyoming in Yellowstone National Park, but I can not be sure due to where I had it stored.

Sometimes you make these happen stance arrangements that work quite incredibly, and while this photo might have a bit to much white in various places, this is still one of my favorite photos of just the leaf of tea.

Purple Flower on Corfu

I saw this flower on Corfu, I believe by the "New" fort (New in the sense that its the younger of the two forts, but it still predates most of the buildings in the United states). This photograph, almost looks unreal to me, and I love how I caught some of the withered flowers next to this one in full bloom. This might just be my favorite photograph to date.
