Did you know there’s only 3 weeks until recital!? The next few weeks are going to be really busy!

You asked for more dancing and you got it! There WILL be class held the week after dress rehearsal, June 4-June 8. This is really wonderful because it gives us teachers a chance to fix or make changes to anything that we didn’t really like at the dress rehearsal. So that means it is really, really important for everyone to attend that last week of class!

Picture Perfect

Today is your last chance to come in and view, order, and get some really awesome things made out of all the beautiful pictures that were taken during Picture Day at A2D last week. You can order anything from a mouse pad, magnets, or desktop size cardboard cut outs of you tiny dancers! Don’t miss out – come and see how your beautiful dancers looked in all of their costumes, and don’t forget to get things to share with family members. There’s a ton of things that would make great gifts!

Chamaeleon fundraiser for A2D Company Members!

This Saturday, May 19, Chamaeleon Boutique in Ambler will be hosting a fun “Mommy and Me” craft fundraiser. All of the proceeds will be going to A2D Company Members to help raise funds for travel. So make sure you remember to come out, have a good time, and support your fellow dancers. More information on “Mommy and Me” is available on Facebook!

DON’T FORGET ABOUT RUSSELL FERGUSON!

Do you realize that it’s not everyday (nor every studio) that gets to have a So You Think You Can Dance winner teach their students. We should all be super excited and extremely grateful that Mr. Ferguson he is taking time out of his schedule to come and teach our kids. This really is something that is taking A2D to the next level! Winding Down

As the 2011-2012 year winds down, what was your favorite part of the year at A2D? Let us know!

Hip-Hop Battles are an important part of the Hip-Hop scene – a chance for performers to demonstrate their skills, compete, show-off, and potentially even win prizes and awards – all at the same time.

A2D teacher “Mr. Kenny” Thomas is an expert in Hip-Hop Battle and took time during a recent class to demonstrate and compete with students in the class. Some of his points of emphasis include:

• Keeping eye contact with your competitor.
• Concentrating on facial expression as part of the overall moves.
• Responding in-kind to moves you’ve just seen – and how to take them to the next level.

Check, Check, Check

The closer we get to the recital, the more things we get to check off our preparation list — and that’s a wonderful feeling. Picture Day was a huge success and ran smoothly. Now on to the next important date, the Hip-Hop Master Classes with So You Think You Can Dance Winner Russell Ferguson! It’s very exciting to have him come and teach our students – they will be sure to have a wonderful time and it’s a great experience for them so don’t miss out!

4 Weeks To Go?!

Calendar wise, yes there are four weeks, but in that last week leading up to the shows after the dress rehearsal, there are no classes (June 2-June 9). In reality, we have three! A little stressful for us teachers, but that’s why attendance is crucial. Monday classes only have two classes – left May 14 and May 21, the following week is Memorial Day and then the off week. Students and parents  - make sure we are trying our hardest to get ourselves to class.

Opening Number and Other Surprises

These last few weeks of class, students have a few extra things to learn, like our amazing opening number. It’s something fun and exciting and we look forward to unveiling it! A2D has a few tricks up our sleeves come recital time and we can’t wait for you all to sit back and enjoy. Don’t forget that Miss Deidre will be walking around with her camera taking some snap shots of all your beautiful and handsome faces so come to class looking your best!

Costumes, rhinestones, bobby-pins, makeup, glitter, alterations, new tights, new shoes, extra rehearsals…here’s to the start of your official Addicted 2 Dance (A2D) Recital Survival Guide!

This time of year is when everything starts to get a lot more crazy then usual! Yes, it gets crazier!!! Tons of information will be given to parents, students, and teachers alike to the point where you’re going to think you will explode! But it’s also the most exciting time of year, because all of the hard work and dedication is about to pay off in the form of a fabulous show – Dancing With Disney.

For teachers, by this time all choreography should be done, and cleaning, breaking down, and trying to make things as perfect as possible should be underway. This is where we will go step-by-step over everything from where the arms are supposed to be, to where your head should be looking, to what direction your body should be in, and more. Time consuming? Yes, but it will be worth it in the end!

The next six weeks will include something important almost every weekend – a little overwhelming but that comes with the territory. Picture Day at A2D is this coming weekend. Taking the costume out for the first time, having it sewn to fit, making sure they dancers all accessories the right tights and shoes is all now in the hands of the parents.

Makeup for picture day was described in an email, but if you are unsure of how much to put on your child just make sure it’s more then you as a mom would put on as your everyday routine but a little less then you will be doing for recital. You don’t want the flash to wash out your little ones face!

54 Days until DISNEY!

On top of the recital, some A2D Company dancers are going to perform at Disney World and I am more than excited! The students as well as myself are learning choreography for the performance there at the end of June. We had our first rehearsal on Friday and everyone handled everything great! Keep it up guys and girls!

A Few Glitches

I believe the most stressful part of this time of year is attendance. Seniors start to get the dreaded “senioritis” as the rest of the studio fall ill to “spring fever”. As a teacher, I have no control over this and can only stress to the students and parents how important it is to be in class mentally and physically! I want you to go on stage looking your best to show how hard you’ve worked all year. With the weeks slowly dwindling, that means less and less time to get things done. Try your hardest to be in class.

Ferguson, a friend of A2D Instructors Kennith Thomas and David Crosby, spent time with a collection of Hip-Hop classes including Senior Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop Production, and our younger 5-7 and 8-12 year old Hip-Hop.

After observing some routines, Ferguson got into the swing of things with both “Mr. Kenny” and “Mr. David” – check out some of their amazing moves in the below video!

After class, Ferguson had a chance to answer specific questions from A2D dancers about his career, how he got started, and what it takes to be a professional dancer.

His packed visit also included many pictures with excited students and staff members. He even had a chance to autograph a shirt!

Thankfully, Ferguson will be returning to Addicted 2 Dance on Thursday, May 17 to teach two master classes for ages listed below. Specific details on registration and pricing will be announced soon.
