With the proliferation of pornographic images, videos, and websites all over the Internet, it should not come as a surprise that a large number of people are currently suffering from a condition called pornography addiction.

As many of these people would attest, this problem can be very difficult to overcome. The first step in beating porn addiction lies in the understanding of the condition. Here is a simple guide that will tell you everything you need to know about pornography addiction.

What is Porn Addiction?

Pornography addiction is a subcategory of sexual addiction. In this condition, a person is addicted to using, looking, viewing, and reading of pornographic literature and visual images.

The word addiction comes into play when the person who makes excessive use of pornography can no longer function normally in the society because he or she is compelled to engage in the addictive activity for most parts of the day. Pornography can also give him or her euphoric feeling that can becomes extremely addictive in the long run.

What are the Causes of Porn Addiction?

The main cause of the addiction is the constant use of pornography. What leads to the constant use of pornography, however, is more important, and can be a multitude of external and internal factors. Some examples are deep-seated feeling of insecurity, fear of rejection in relationships, past trauma from physical or sexual abuse, exposure to pornography at a young age, and many more.

Why is a Porn Addiction a Problem?

Addiction to pornography is a problem because it alters perception. Continual use of pornography can change a person’s view not only on sex but also on relationships and people in general. Men who are addicted to pornography begin to see women as mere sex objects, and this perception may hinder them from having a healthy relationship with a woman they truly love.

Additionally, pornography addiction can also hinder a person from functioning normally in a community. It may prevent him or her from performing a regular job effectively, from maintaining relationships, and from accomplishing important daily tasks. The person may be preoccupied with the use of pornography with little or no time left for essential things to do. These are but few of the reasons that make this condition a big problem.

How do I Break Porn Addiction?

Here are some proven ways on beating porn addiction:

Admit that you have a problem. This is the first step in conquering your addiction. Without admission on your part, no real change is possible.

Block porn sites from your computer. Ask a friend or loved one to do this for you. This way, you will not be able to disable the filtering system when you feel the craving to look at pornography.

Be honest with your partner. There is an old saying: “You are only as sick as your secrets are.”

Join a self-help group in your area. A support group will help you greatly in overcoming this condition.

Find new interests. Take on a new hobby, go out with your friends, meet people, do something valuable for the community-anything that can keep you busy and keep your mind off pornography would be a good thing to do.

Most spouses and loved ones of addicts, that have not helped themselves, do feel resentment and anger. They feel resentful for taking care of the alcoholic. They feel resentful for taking the brunt of the abusive behaviors that come with addiction. They feel resentful because they are spending their days worrying about the alcoholic. Understand that you are not alone. When you learn to detach with love it will release a huge burden from you spiritually and emotionally.

1. Realize that Alcoholism is Not Your Problem or Responsibility

When you stop reacting to the alcoholic’s behaviors you at once stop allowing the addiction to control you. The truth is most loved ones of addicts are preoccupied with the addicts behaviors. In other words, they allow the behaviors of the addict to consume their thoughts day in and day out and it makes them sick with the addict. No wonder you feel resentful-you don’t have a life when you consume yourself with the addict’s behaviors!

The only time we would want to interfere with the alcoholic is if they are hurting themselves or someone else. Know the difference. We have to interfere if they are going to get into a car and drive drunk. We will have to interfere if they are emotionally abusing any children in the home. These things are a must, but we don’t have to enable the addiction or rescue them from the problems they create while drinking and being drunk.

2. Don’t Blame Yourself

Loved ones sometimes indirectly blame themselves for the addiction. This happens because the alcoholic has abusive tirades where they continually blame their spouse or other close loved ones for their unhappiness. But it’s not true! Alcoholics are alcoholics because they chose to take that first drink and they are responsible for what they do while intoxicated. Once you give them back the addiction they are more apt to come out from denial and seek help. Alcoholics can get sober but THEY have to be willing.

3. Stop Trying to Control the Addiction or Fix the Alcoholic

Loved ones and spouses think they can somehow control the amount of alcohol the alcoholic drinks, or they think they can somehow get them to stop drinking altogether. This is nonsensical. You are completely powerless to control the alcoholic or the addiction. But you can control how you react to the alcoholic’s behaviors. Be good to yourself and don’t let the abuse destroy your emotional and spiritual well being.

You can’t fix the alcoholic-they can only fix themselves. The more you enable and rescue the alcoholics problems, that they have created while drinking, the more they will be consumed within the addiction-in essence, you the enabler, are helping them drink! The best way to help the alcoholic or addict is to do nothing. Don’t react to the abuse and don’t enable and rescue.

4. Don’t Give up and Don’t Get Discouraged

We have control over what we do, what we say, and how we react to the addiction. We can control our own thoughts, actions and behaviors towards the alcoholic and towards ourselves. We can choose to continue doing those things that make us happy while praying for the recovery of our loved one. We must learn to let “it” go and give it to God. God gives us the peace we need to live with and love the alcoholic.

5. Get Educated About Alcoholism

The more we understand about alcoholism the easier it is for us to handle each and every situation that comes up with the alcoholic. I cannot say how important it is to get yourself educated about all the aspects of alcoholism because it will make or break your sanity in the long run. ALANON, a group that helps spouses learn to detach, is an excellent way to begin your education because you will realize you are not alone in how you feel and there are others who are going through exactly what you are. You don’t have to feel resentful or bitter about the addiction or alcoholic any longer.

Most people have some sort of compulsive behavior that they’d really like to change. Most compulsive behaviors are used as coping mechanisms. Someone finds something that makes them feel good and continue to do it over and over again. While many recognize they may have a compulsive behavior, most aren’t ready to call it an addiction. This is because when most think of addiction, they think of drug users or the gambler who blows his or her paycheck every week on their habit. But in the end, whether it’s an addiction like these or a milder addiction, the fact is that most addictions will make someone feel good about themselves temporarily, but these behaviors generally have harmful long term consequences.

So, how do you know if you are addicted to something? Simply ask yourself this question – and provide an honest answer. “Has this behavior caused me enough trouble for me to consider stopping or cutting back?” If your answer is yes, then try these 5 tips to help you cut back to eliminate your addiction:

1. List The Pros And Cons

Write down all of the tings you like about the addictive substance or activity. If you drink, maybe one of the things you like is that it helps you unwind or relax. Next, write down the benefits you’d see if you quit the addictive behavior. For example, if you didn’t drink, perhaps you’d be more productive.

After you complete the lists, compare them. Do a cost / benefit analysis. Do the costs of your behavior outweigh the benefits? If so, you’ve just taken the first step toward acknowledging and making the necessary changes in your life.

2. Cut Back Or Stop Completely?

For some, they find it easier to wean themselves off of an addiction. For example, they may start out by smoking 10 less cigarettes each day, or maybe gambling only once a week instead of daily. On the other hand, you may find it easier to quit cold turkey.

Both methods have proven to be effective. With weaning, most people are less afraid, so they tend to be more motivated. Quitting cold turkey is usually tougher at the start, but the process is faster. A higher entry price so to speak, but easier to maintain because there is a much shorter transition period.

3. Keep Away From Cravings

Without question, one of the toughest things when it comes to eliminating an addictive behavior is the withdrawal period. Cravings can become intense! Calling a friend, taking a walk, working on a project, or anything else that will put some distance between you and your cravings is critical. Do whatever you need to do in order to take your mind off the cravings.

4. Keep Busy

Many folks who decide they want to make the commitment to quit and addiction find themselves sitting at home most of the time. Big trouble. If this happens, you are much more likely to fall back into the addictive behavior. You’ve got to keep busy and keep your body active. Hobbies, exercise, family activities or anything else that you enjoy will help keep you from focusing on your addictive behavior and will help you immensely.

5. Keep Your Mind Busy

Distract your mind from your addiction. The busier your mind, the less you’ll focus on cravings. Think about something at high speed – like counting ceiling tiles as fast as you can. Or try reading book titles backwards. Or, try repetitious math problems in your head such as subtracting 8 from 1,000 and then 8 from 992 and so on. These type of exercises will take up your entire mind which will help you get past any cravings you may have.

Addictions can be very difficult to break at times. Hopefully, if you’ve found yourself in an addictive behavior, the above 5 tips will help you slow it down or eliminate it completely.

Alcoholism is a serious problem for the alcoholic, both mentally and physically. The body has become dependent upon that substance and demands more of it. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms duration and effects can range from a few days to weeks and from mild to serious to death. There is help available and should be used.

Alcoholism is a substance abuse problem that is excessive and repeated. This substance is used to create effects or imagined effects. As a person sinks deeper into alcoholism there will be mood swings, personality changes, lack of communicate, changes in dress and friends and problems at work or school. The body undergoes physical changes also, starting with liver damage. Eyes may be red, skin becomes dryer and cracked.

The withdrawal symptoms can be from mild to life-threatening; usually this directly corresponds with the alcohol use. The lenght of the problem and the amount typically consumed will have a large effect on the severity of the symptoms. Everyone will experience some level of physical discomfort when the drinking stops. The alcohol withdrawal symptoms duration usually start within a few hours, get serious in 6 to 48 hours and may only last a few days or for weeks depending on the person and the addiction problem.

Medical help is available and withdrawing from alcohol should be done under medical supervision. Most people under a physician’s care are sent home with a four day supply of anti-anxiety medications. 95% of the people have mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms. In that 95%, 15 to 20% with moderate withdrawal symptoms may still have hallucinations or brief seizures.

A mild reaction would include shakes, nausea, headache, rapid heartbeat, sweats or night sweats, anxiety and increased blood pressure. In 6 to 48 hours more serious reactions start which include hallucinations. These hallucinations are usually visual but can include smells and sounds. During the same timeframe a person experiencing a more serious reaction could have convulsions or seizures.

For chronic alcoholism the symptoms may be severe and are delirium tremens known as DTs. These start 3 to 5 days after the alcohol was stopped. Once DTs start the medical profession has no way to stop them. DTs include profound confusion, hallucinations, hyperactivity, disorientation and extreme cardiovascular disturbances which include changes in breathing, circulation and body temperature, racing heart, high blood pressure and dehydration. DTs can lead to a Grand Mal seizure, heart attacks and strokes, creating fatalities.

There are many medical facilities and alcohol detoxification centers that can assist and protect the alcoholic going through the alcohol withdrawal symptoms duration. There is no need for anyone to go through this process alone; caring, competent people are trained in assisting with this process.

Not knowing how to quit porn addiction can make you feel hopeless and full of guilt with fear and discouragement. These feelings can rob you of the freedom life should offer in full! Fear of getting caught or feelings of desperation in personal sin only add insult to injury. If you learn how to quit porn addiction you will empower your life as a whole. Many people feel helpless and never learn how to quit porn addiction because they are focused on their past failures.

In this article I am going to cover specific strategic steps you can personally take as an outlet when that moment of heated temptation arises! Notice I say when and not if. I know and sympathize with where you’re coming from! Sexual addiction and porn addiction are everywhere in this day of advanced technology and I realize how hard it is to quit. All those addicted to porn and trying to quit realize how daunting the task seems.

Escape #1: Change your environment!

Sitting next to a computer is the near equivalent of sitting outside a strip club for porn addicts. Get out! You can’t be trusted when the porn addiction is calling, it’s too powerful. Don’t try and be the tough one who weathers the storm. Instead, get away from the computer, magazine, television or whatever has plagued you in the past.

Escape #2: Have your emergency activity predetermined!

This step compliments the previous one. Have at least 3 emergency activities predetermined. These are usually physical in nature. They can be any activities that you personally realize are likely to distract you in a consuming way. This could be anything like shooting a basketball, engaging in another sport or going to a shop you really enjoy and often get sucked into. Again any activity that tends to hook you another way is good!

Escape #3: Call or Talk to Someone as a Social Distraction!

Once you engage in conversation you are forced to think about what that person is saying or you will lose respect with that individual. They will have things on their mind that they want to share and this is perfect! Humans are among the best distractions available. Unattractive humans that is.. lol

Escape #4: Focus and Immerse in Recovering Addict Solution Resources

Instead of indulging in porn, indulge in porn addiction solutions and expert advice. There are programs out there that you can immediately start reading, watching or listening to for strength, support and courage. Like going to the gym while combating food cravings, they’ll help you to true recovery.

At http://www.saynotoporn.info you’ll find a program specifically designed for you and this action step. This program is tailored specifically by experts to help you find strength, support and solutions to this addiction anytime you need it. Recovering from porn addiction is not something you can do alone. If you are serious about learning how to quit porn addiction, take action immediately now to help you benefit long term as well as in the future.

One of the most difficult things for a parent to have to face is the fact that a son or daughter may have a problem with alcohol. Even if their “children” are now adults, it is still challenging to confront the issue, but confrontation and treatment are necessary in order to save that son or daughter’s life. If you suspect that your child may have a drinking problem, here are some suggestions that may help.

Realizing that younger people will react to alcohol differently is probably the first step to recognizing your child’s alcohol problem. While most adults can have a drink or two without losing the ability to think rationally or having mood swings, children may not be able to handle alcohol so well. If your son, who is usually mild-mannered and reserved suddenly starts to display erratic behavior, it may be more than just “puberty”. If the behavior continues for more than a week or so, it may be time to start asking some questions.

Also, you should pay attention to the types of friends your children are spending time with. By the time your children are in middle school or high school, they may not want you to be so involved in their social lives, but this is the time when you need to be concerned the most. Your son or daughter will be spending more time away from the house during this time, which could expose them to a number of influences that may not be positive — including alcohol. You should make sure that you meet all of your child’s friends and their parents.

This will definitely give you insight into the child’s interests and upbringing, so that you can get an idea of the impressions this new friend will be leaving on your child. During the teenage years, kids are more likely to listen to their friends and popular kids at school than their own parents, so if you can make sure that your child’s friends are not interested in drinking alcohol or participating in reckless behavior, you will feel more at ease with your child’s social life.

Aside from the normal displays of independence that teens and pre-teens show, you should make sure your child is not shutting you out of their lives completely. Establishing a relationship with your child at a young age fosters honest conversation and expression that will not only help you know if your child is having a problem with alcohol, but will also give you information on how to help your son or daughter.

If your child suddenly doesn’t want to talk about school or friends anymore, he or she may have something to hide. And if your son or daughter starts to tell you about a friend who is experimenting with alcohol, it’s time for you to give sound advice; constant interaction with this friend is not good, but your child should still know that a real friend would lend a helping hand in this situation.

Finally, you should keep in mind that no matter how old your child gets, you will still be their oldest and most trusted example — even if they won’t admit it. If alcohol is in the house on a regular basis or if your children see you drinking often with friends or family members, they will not see the dangers in drinking regularly or at an early age. Your actions and lifestyle are the best tools to use to help your children avoid alcoholism, so choose wisely.

bulimia, and anorexia have been rampant.

These cases are already considered as grave problems
but it helps to know that there are now treatment
options available to patients. Read and you will find
out more info about addiction and recovery as well as
eating disorders information.

What has eating disorders got to do with addiction and
recovery? Oftentimes, eating disorders are associated
with the obsession to food and body image. According
to some experts, eating disorders are of various
kinds.

For instance, bulimia and anorexia are illnesses
whereby patients manage their weight by using
starvation techniques and two processes called purging
and binging. Food addiction is another cause of eating
disorder. In this case, the individual compulsively
overeats.

The disorders or illnesses revolve around food and
weight matters. If the eating disorder continues, the
health of the individual may be at stake.

Only a licensed and experienced doctor can diagnose
eating disorders. However, you can also pay attention
for warning signs such as eating very small portions
of food, skipping meals, eliminates fat in the diet,
don’t want to eat with other people, and picks up
unusual eating rituals.

If some individuals tend to eat very little food,
other individuals tend to overeat. The latter often
eats alone so that other people can’t see them
vomiting or binging.

You also need to pay attention to the obsessive and
obvious fear of gaining weight. Some food addicts are
very much conscious about their body image and even
though they are healthy, they tend to think that
they’re overweight.

You can also tell if a person has an eating disorder
if he or she is into compulsive exercising, wears
baggy clothing, exhibits frequent mood swings, and
shows evident personality changes. If you suspect that
you or any loved one displays these warning signs, it
is highly advised that you visit a doctor or medical
professional right away.

Treatment options vary which includes group therapy,
addiction recovery, rehab centers and medical
treatments. Only after proper diagnosis can the doctor
prescribe the appropriate treatment. The treatment
usually depends on the severity of the disorder or the
addiction.

Oftentimes, it could take months or even years. You
must be able to contact a support group or a local
rehab center. Again, the doctor is the best person who
can suggest the appropriate treatment for the patient.
If you’re faced with several treatment alternatives,
make sure that you choose the one which can work well
for the patient.

Eating disorders and food addictions are best
addressed at an early state to avoid further damage.
As mentioned earlier, this is a life threatening
situation and so one must act right away. Take note of
the warning signs so that you can easily tell whether
you or your loved one is suffering from food addiction
and eating disorders.

Don’t hesitate to seek immediate help if ever you see
some of the warning signs. The treatment options may
be a bit expensive but if it’s the only way to get
over addiction and recovery, money is not a
consideration. The most important thing is saving the
life of someone you love or even your own life. Use
the info you’ve learned in this article to your
advantage.

Just say NO! We’ve all heard the ads and campaigns against drugs and illegal substances. Unfortunately we still live in a time where people fail to heed the warnings. The old-school ad with the egg and frying pan was as clear as it gets. “This is your brain.

This is your brain on drugs. Any questions?” How could anyone miss or dismiss that message? Well, the substance abuse and prevention issue is still quite prominent today. Many of us are still fighting to keep drugs away from our children. I will say this, it all starts with communication. This means communication between you and your children.

I was a kid in the 80s, and spent my high school years in the 90s. Do you think issues of substance abuse and prevention were prevalent back them? Well DUH! If you thought they weren’t, then you must be pretty young. These horrible substances have been around for a long time. This means there were plenty of unsavory individuals out there striving to sell them.

I can happily say today that I never tried a single one. Not even a cigarette actually. This clean record assists me in talking to my children now. You know how kids always like to flip it on you. They love to ask you if you ever tried any drugs back in the day. They want to know if the preacher is clean or a hypocrite.

I simply grin and tell them honestly that I never even drank when I was a teen. So far it has worked quite well. There’s no rebuttal for them to jump on. I just ask them to follow my lead. Now, if you have dabbled in drugs at some point, you may want to choose your words wisely when speaking to your children. Although you shouldn’t lie, you don’t want to sound too criminal either. Kids love to use your past as an excuse for what they do. They know they can always pull it out of their pocket.

Expose your children to the world of substance abuse and prevention. Give them a reason not to get involved with drugs. Show them all the lives that have been ruined by such actions. Let them know that nothing good can come from drug use. The more your kids now about the reality of substance abuse and prevention, the better off they’ll be.

No matter if you are carrying a little extra around the middle or are pleasing plump, no one wants to be overweight. Everyone is looking for some practical weight loss tips.

The fastest way to losing those few extra pounds is the most basic of all weight loss tips: cut down your consumption of food. I know. I know. That is easier to say than to do.

However, many experts recommend various ways to eat less food without causing too much change in lifestyle. Those weight loss tips about food consumption focus on slightly changing your eating habits. If you are used to making two slices of toast every morning with your breakfast, cut down to one. Then if you need more food, you have to go through all the work of making more. You might find the extra effort is not worth the trouble and you have saved some calories.

Another of these weight loss tips is to cut out one of the regular snack times that you might regularly have. If you normally take that ten o’clock coffee break with doughnut, just work through a little longer. If you need the snack break, do it. However, by then, it is closer to lunch and you might find that you are not as hungry at lunch and eat less than you normally would.

Another category of weight loss tips involves changing the food that we eat. We all probably need to reduce our consumption of sugars and fats, the weight builders. Let’s be honest though, a carrot will never satisfactorily substitute for a candy bar even though that is want we should be eating. However, there are alternatives, lower calorie alternatives, to that chocolate bar. Try some popcorn instead of buying that candy bar to eat at the movies. The popcorn has fewer calories and is more filling, satisfying your urge to eat. That is one of my favorite weight loss tips.

Other substitutes might include baked potato instead of fried potatoes. And of course, the best of the weight loss tips is stay away from the typical fast foods that you probably are chowing down too frequently.

The other class of weight loss tips is exercise. Too many people dislike the routine and regime of normal exercise programs. This is a difficult place to give advice. We all no how important regular exercise is for our health and good looks. Nevertheless, there are ways to increase the amount of exercise we get without an extra trip to the gym. Studies have shown that people whop walk faster tend to maintain their weight better than people who walk more slowly. Pick up the pace when you are roaming around the mall.

If excess weight is a serious concern for you, the best of the weight loss tips is to consult with a qualified weight loss management expert.

I still think about the addicting habit nearly every day. They only way that I was able to quit smoking was to completely change my lifestyle and to completely change my daily routine.

Two years ago, I visited my doctor. She told me I had pleurisy. Pleurisy is an illness that rests between the lungs and the tissues surrounding the lungs, making each breath a painful ordeal. I continued to smoke even though I was in great pain. I was just that addicted. I could not stop smoking cigarettes. My visit to the doctor quickly changed all of that.

My doctor always advised me to stop smoking cigarettes but she did not lecture me during the visit. She started to write a prescription for antibiotics and something stopped her. She asked, “Is there any way that you could be pregnant?” I thought for a moment and said that maybe we should have a test just to be sure. It turns out that I was.

I went home after picking up my prescription for an antibiotic that was safe for unborn babies. I did not want a cigarette at all. The only thing I could think about was telling my husband the good news. After I got better, I found my cigarettes in my purse and just threw them away. I had quit smoking without even thinking about it.

The combination of being sick with a lung infection and finding out that I was pregnant really pushed me into a mental state that helped me to stop smoking cigarettes. To be honest, I believe that I would have continued to smoke if I wasn’t pregnant.

I still think about smoking, but it’s more in terms of why I should have quit and why I should never smoke again. I do not want to send the message that smoking is okay to my daughter. It is very easy to tell our children that smoking is very bad for our health, but it is difficult to be a good role model when you are addicted to tobacco.

I’m very glad that having a baby gave me the incentive to stop smoking cigarettes and I’m even more pleased that having a child continues to keep me from starting the habit again. I have saved a lot of money over the past two years. I put the money that I was spending on cigarettes into my daughter’s savings account. I thought that it was the least I could do to show my appreciation for the gift she gave to me.
