Previously, up until the mid 1990's, most overdoses were caused by illegal substances such as heroin and crack cocaine. The huge upswing in prescriptions, and the lack of knowledge about the abuse of prescription medications, has created a dangerous cycle of abuse and addiction. “The biggest and fastest-growing part of America’s drug problem is prescription drug abuse,” said a former White House drug czar and former director of NIDA.

The risk of developing crystal meth addiction problems are much greater for anyone who experimented with drugs or alcohol before the age of ten. The risks are less but similar for anyone who experiments with drugs or alcohol before the age of 14. Meth users who become full blown addicts can usually retrace their first drug or alcohol use to an occurrence before the age of 18.

I cannot feel, and I will not feel until my behavior changes, until I make a decison to stop using/drinking-following up that decision with a plan of action. And until I make that decision, until I take that action, I will hurt you again and again and again. Please, stop being surprised.

I am an addict. And that's what addicts do.

When meeting with a DEA approved physician for the first time, it is very important that you express your goals and desires clearly and concisely. If need be, write them down before your appointment. And if the gradual removal of all drugs from your system is what you want, do not allow yourself to be talked out of it.

Conclusions of the study: Suboxone (buprenorphine) is a viable treatment option and when coupled with an abstinence oriented addiction counseling program. Suboxone is effective in promoting abstinence, self-help group attendance, occupational stability, and improved psychosocial outcomes in patient populations over an 18–42-month period.
