ARE YOU WITH THE RIGHT PARTNER?

2013-04-12T12:45:00.000+05:30

Here's the answer.

Every relationship has a cycle… In the beginning; you fall in love with your partner. You anticipate their calls, want their touch, and like their idiosyncrasies. Falling in love wasn't hard. In fact, it was a completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didn't have to DO anything. That's why it's called "falling" in love.
People in love sometimes say, "I was swept of my feet."Picture the expression. It implies that you were just standing there; doing nothing, and then something happened TO YOU.

Falling in love is a passive and spontaneous experience. But after a few months or years of being together, the euphoria of love fades. It's a natural cycle of EVERY relationship.
Slowly but surely, phone calls become a bother (if they come at all), touch is not always welcome (when it happens), and your spouse's idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts. The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship; you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stage when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage.

At this point, you and/or your partner might start asking, "Am I with the right person?" And as you reflect on the euphoria of the love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someone else. This is when relationships breakdown.

The key to succeeding in a relationship is not finding the right person; it's learning to love the person you found.

People blame their partners for their unhappiness and look outside for fulfillment. Extramarital fulfillment comes in all shapes and sizes.
Infidelity is the most common. But sometimes people turn to work, a hobby, friendship, excessive TV, or abusive substances. But the answer to this dilemma does NOT lie outside your relationship. It lies within it.

I'm not saying that you couldn't fall in love with someone else. You could. And TEMPORARILY you'd feel better. But you'd be in the same situation a few years later.
Because (listen carefully to this):

The key to succeeding in a Relationship is not finding the right person; it's learning to love the Person you found.

SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. You have to work on it day in and day out. It takes time, effort, and energy. And most importantly, it demands WISDOM. You have to know WHAT TO DO to make it work. Make no mistake about it.

Love is NOT a mystery. There are specific things you can do (with or without your partner), Just as there are physical laws Of the universe (such as gravity), there are also laws for relationships. If you know how to apply these laws, the results are predictable.

Love is therefore a "decision". Not just a feeling.

Remember this always: God determines who walks into your life. It is up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let GO! ♥
Learn to love the person you found ♥

How to conduct a complete laptop battery calibration (full discharge)?

2012-10-19T17:57:00.000+05:30

Follow the below steps for the most acceptable method to do a full discharge battery calibration (100% to a minimum of 3%)

Fully charge the battery to its Full capacity (100%);

Keep the laptop running with fully charged battery for 2 hours or more in order to cool down from the charging process. It is possible to resume normal use of the laptop;

Unplug the power cable and set the computer to hibernate automatically. Set the minimum percentage possible as illustrated in the image below (click images to enlarge);

Leave the computer discharging, non-stop, until it hibernates itself. It is possible to resume normal use of the laptop.

When the computer shuts down completely, let it stay in the hibernation state for 5 hours or even more;

Plug the laptop to the A/C power to perform a full charge non-stop until its maximum capacity is reached (100%). It is possible to resume normal use of the laptop

After the calibration, the stated wear level is typically higher than previous. This is natural, since it now reports the true current capacity that the battery has to hold charge. Lithium Ion batteries have a limit amount of discharge cycles (generally 200 to 300 cycles) and they will retain less capacity over time.

Myth

If calibrating provides greater wear level, then it's a bad thing

The calibration is meant to have the battery report the true capacity it can hold and to avoid any surprises.

Cricket LG ICC Awards 2012

2012-09-16T01:52:00.000+05:30

Kumar Sangakkara has won three awards, including the prestigious Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year at the annual ICC awards ceremony in Colombo. Sangakkara also won the People's Choice prize, an honour he had received last year as well.

For Cricketer and Test Cricketer of the Year, Sangakkara was chosen ahead of South Africa's Hashim Amla and Vernon Philander, and Australia captain Michael Clarke.

He was prolific in both Tests and ODIs during the 12-month voting period ending in early August: in 14 Tests, he compiled 1,444 runs at an average of 60.16, including five centuries and five half-centuries, highlighted by a match-saving 211 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi; in 37 ODIs, he scored 1457 runs with three hundreds, and also completed 39 catches and three stumpings as a wicketkeeper.

"This is an amazing honour and I've seen the people who have won it before me and the nominees too, to be named alongside them is wonderful," Sangakkara said after receiving the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy for Cricketer of the Year from ICC president Alan Isaac. "I admire them greatly and even more so when I looked up at their records on the screen this evening. It's great to be amongst them. Now to receive this honour this evening, is simply fantastic."

Previous winners of the Cricketer of the Year award include Rahul Dravid (2004), Andrew Flintoff and Jacques Kallis (joint winners in 2005), Ricky Ponting (2006 and 2007), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (2008), Mitchell Johnson (2009), Sachin Tendulkar (2010) and Jonathan Trott (2011).

West Indies legend Brian Lara presented Sangakkara with the Test Cricketer award. "I'm continuing to ensure I am consistent and I need to keep raising the bar each year and keep trying harder and harder to ensure I keep playing good Test cricket," Sangakkara said. "It's a constant battle but I have the support of a great team that helps me to do the best I can."

Sangakkara missed out, though, on a third major gong when Virat Kohli was named ODI Cricketer of the Year, an award Sangakkara had won in 2011. During the period under consideration, Kohli played 31 ODIs and scored 1733 runs at an average of 66.65, including eight hundreds and six half-centuries.

Among the other winners was West Indies offspinner Sunil Narine, who was named Emerging Cricketer of the Year. His hard-to-read variations quickly led to him being labelled a mystery spinner, and he was instrumental in West Indies' series wins over New Zealand in all three formats in July-August.

Another mystery spinner, Ajantha Mendis, missed out on Twenty20 Performance of the Year, which was won by South Africa opener Richard Levi, for his record-breaking 45-ball century against New Zealand.

New Zealand's Daniel Vettori received the Spirit of Cricket Award for his sporting recall of a Zimbabwe batsman during a tense Test in Bulawayo.

Ireland left-arm-spinner George Dockrell took home the Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year prize, becoming the second Irishman to win the award after William Porterfield in 2009.

Women's cricket had two prizes for the first time, with the ICC awarding the ODI Cricketer and T20I Cricketer of the Year, instead of awarding a single honour. Last year's winner West Indies' Stafanie Taylor won the ODI gong, while England's Sarah Taylor took the T20 award.

Besides Sangakkara's three prizes, Sri Lanka won one more: umpire Kumar Dharmasena took the Umpire of the Year award. That ended a three-year winning run for Aleem Dar and left Pakistan, already unhappy at offspinner Saeed Ajmal's exclusion from two top award shortlists, without a prize on the day.

How world saw 21st Century in 1890s

2012-09-11T12:41:00.000+05:30

A set of 19th century postcards has revealed that's just what French artists thought we'd be doing at the turn of the 21st century. The set of postcards, produced between 1899 and 1910, predict what life would be like in Paris in the year 2000

The year 2000 may have been and gone - but no one has yet invented a flying fireman, or started playing croquet underwater. And while Parisians haven't as yet replaced the fireplace in their homes with sticks of glowing radium, as one portrait shows, there are some portraits which aren't too far off the mark.

Whales facilitate underwater travel.

In an imaginative vision of the year 2000, Parisian artists pictured a future where its citizens would play underwater croquet.

Business Marriage: Quality & Franchise

Pizza Hut could be identified as another company that is highly focusing on the quality of the services they provide in order to have a set of delighted customers. They believe that employees (people of an organization) interfacing with customers have a massive impact on the customer satisfaction levels as well. From the customers’ point of view, staffs are generally inseparable from the total service provided: therefore quality of the services delivery matters.

As soon as a customer steps in to Pizza hut one of their team members’ greet the customer warmly and directs him to a table and offers the menu card.

They assure that their trusted, experienced staff has the required skill of performing the task given to them; mainly when dealing with customers also with the trusted global brand name ‘Pizza Hut’. Pizza Hut also ensures reliability to the customers by delivering a promised punctual service. They have a specific time slot (Fifteen Minutes) to deliver the ordered product to the customer according to the customer specification. The tangibles they own such as appearances of physical facilities, equipments, personnel and material have been able to contribute to this aspect largely. Pizza hut have developed this through the atmosphere of the outlet, and the layout plan, which is rather done in an attractive manner. In addition to it their staffs are dressed up with identical uniforms which is rather easy for the customers to trace them at once.

Also through their set menus and personalized services they have been able to provide adequate information about their product range since modern customers would always seek for individual attention and customized services.

My personal experience in the case of Pizza Hut, is that on one Sunday when my friends came over I ordered a regular chicken pizza over the phone, whereas they delivered me sausage crust pizza, which disturbed me a lot; eventually ended up myself visiting the outlet and complaining to the manager in charge. He was very helpful where he responded fast and replaced me with a large chicken pizza free of charge. Scenarios such as this emphasize the importance of responsiveness to customer grievances and also empathy which runs deep in the extent of caring for the customer, understanding him and building long term relationships.Therefore tracking customer expectations that change over time brings in a great advantage to the service providers to succeed long term.

Throughout the variances of these services offering, an organization will have a base of dissatisfied, indifferent and delighted customers. Having a set of a delighted customer base is critical for a company to succeed long term. In the case of Sri Lankan Airlines the more pleasant episodes you have (the more you travel) increase is to be seen in the cumulative satisfaction levels, enhancing positive word of mouth, and loyalty promotion and repeat purchases. It also brings in a competitive advantage to the company.

To sustain long term loyalty, additionally, companies develop different strategies. For example Arpico Supermarkets’ a retail group around the city issues a privilege card to their consumers that buys over five thousand rupees. By presenting the card, the purchaser is typically entitled to either a discount on the current purchase, or an allotment of points that can be used for future purchases. It would be a powerful mode of achieving customer loyalty and retention long term. Additionally commitment of customers would increase, making them more forgiving which will be rather beneficial in handling service recovery and complaint management processes.

Heading towards a satisfactory service climate

The effectiveness in the processes involved in service delivery also determines satisfaction levels of customers. Evaluations could be done by assessing whether, the customers have to queue or wait to be dealt with, how customers are kept informed and whether the service is conducted efficiently.

There are plenty of examples of organizations that have effectively marketed their services, sometimes even globally with huge success (e.g. McDonalds & Pizza Hut). For other service organizations such as Not for profit organizations (e.g. Red Cross) including charities, hospitals and political parties services marketing has been embraced with varying degree of success. Additionally the aspects discussed in the article are of great importance to upcoming entrepreneurs to succeed in their business ventures.

Marketing the Intangibles in the Global Era

2012-08-24T02:09:00.000+05:30

By Sarala Liyanage –
University of Colombo Management.

To move ahead with our day to day lives, services provide a high degree of aid. With the development of the global economy and technology the quality of services delivered has improved immensely when compared to the history. Marketing the services is a giant stepping stone in capturing a competitive edge against rivals. Therefore marketing fundamentals play a major role in this circumstance. In services marketing, recognition should be given to the fact that there are fundamental differences between products and services; hence the marketing of a service assumes a different emphasis.

Coping up with the Intangibles

Sri Lanka is a well-known holiday destination for tourists, rich of seductive beaches and tempting water sports, magnificent landscapes, fertile wetlands and many other attractive natural resources. After the end of the civil war, now the whole nation is looking forward towards prosperity and growth of the economy. A greater emphasis is given towards tourism. Therefore Sri Lankan Airlines, the National carrier of Sri Lanka, is highly focusing on this developing segment because travelling for holiday making is one of their main sources of income.

Challenges

According to Mr. Chinthaka Kullatilleke, Manager, Services- Sri Lankan Airlines; their service receiver (the passenger) is a participant in the service process. He states that the service delivery process is inseparable from the customer, whereas environmental surrounding of a service operation needs high degree of attention. Therefore they are very much concerned about it. They always focus on the interior décor and the cleanliness of their air busses. Their main focus is to make it a pleasant atmosphere for their passengers because it is the passenger who undergoes the service process, and it is vital that he/she should be delighted with the services provided.

In addition to being inseparable, services are also perishable; if there are no sales on Monday it cannot be sold on Tuesday (unlike a bottle of juice): that sale will be lost forever, also it cannot be returned after purchase. Therefore, Mr. Kullatilleke states that the consideration must be given to differential pricing. For example, seats left unsold during off seasons are discounted hours before the flight. Their Frequent Flyer Program ‘Flysmiles’, special online offers & promotions play a major role in this circumstance. Thus he states that the availability of enough opportunities for service delivery at relevant times is important for service managers.

Sri Lankan Airlines also focuses on tangiblizing their services. The intangible nature of services makes communication more difficult. This leads to customer having high level of perceived risk. Mr. Kullatilleke stated that they are the actors in the airline industry of Sri Lanka and their customers are the audience. Therefore he stated that it is of greater importance of recognizing the feelings and emotions of the services receiver. Different marketing tactics are used in this circumstance. Sri Lankan airlines conducts attractive advertising campaigns and uses touching slogans that runs in to the insight of the passengers’ mind such as; Home away from home, build an entire career on smiles, You are our world, that personalizes their service offering.

Another argument that comes in to the play is of variability (Heterogeneity) of services. It is mainly the difficulty in maintaining a particular standard. Whereas services are people oriented and characteristic of workforce determines the effectiveness of the services. The implication is that attention must be paid to key human resourcing issues such as recruitment and training. It is why Sri Lankan Airline’s International Aviation Academy caters to manpower requirements, airports, travel agents, and other aviation industry organizations.

A disadvantage of intangible nature of services is the inability to be experienced prior to the delivery of the service. Sri Lankan Airlines had been able to provide physical evidence of their services provided by publishing comments of their clients on their website which provides assurance about their services to their potential clients. Therefore Sri Lankan Airlines could be identified as a company that deliver services in an appropriate manner to build an image in the passengers’ mind that they are an efficient and a customer friendly institution.
