Ayurvedic treatment for Cancer

Recently I have had some patients asking some common questions about whether Ayurved can treat cancer. Here is a typical conversation in an attempt to address all the questions a cancer patient or his/her relatives may have

1) Pateint;- So do you treat cancer Doctor?

Doctor:- Yes ,madam ,I do treat cancer.

2) Patient:- So how many patients do you treat every month ?

Doctor:- Oh ! Every month ! not more than 5.

3) Q:- That is so less?

A: - When a patient is diagnosed with cancer, He/She never think twice and rush to the nearest oncologist /Hospital and don’t even think of consulting an ayurvedic doctor as well.

4) Q:- Ok ,what kind of treatment is there in ayurveda for cancer ?

A: -Ayurvedic treatment consist of following

1) Diet regimen

2) Medicines

3) Lifestyle changes.

5) Q :- Lifestyle change ? What do you mean by that ?

A :- It means avoid certain lifestyles and following new lifestyle ,this is basically to avoid certain carcinogens and encourages healing .The basic example is to avoid polluted areas and avoid working night shifts .You have to change the lifestyle as per the type of cancer.

6) Q :- You said diet regimen, right? Is that so important?

A :- Oh yes madam ,it matters most .Your diet can make or break you . You see, deficiencies can cause cancer ,this has been proven beyond proof .Vitamin A ,Vitamin D deficiency is very much linked to cancer. Protein deficiency can damage the DNA to turn the cell into multiplying cancer zombie.

Q :- What kind of medicines are there in Ayurveda for Cancer?

A :- We try to work on various dimension ,I will try to explain in simple words,

First we try improve general health and immunity of the person .Improved immunity increases phagocytosis of cancer cells moving into the blood stream.

Secondly we try to reduce the size of actual tumour. There are very good medicines having that

kind of catabolic actions.

Thirdly ,nowadays we get patients who have already started chemotherapy or radiotherapy ,so

we try to reduce the side effects of those therapies .

Q :- But I have heard that Ayurvdic medicines can only reduce the side effects of chemotherapy or radiotherapy ?

A :- NO, though nowadays it appears like that and it still is a big achievement on its own, I beg to differ, we can do a lot for actual cancer using Ayurvedic treatment.

Q :- So what do you suggest a person diagnosed with cancer should do? Go for surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or instead come directly to you ?

A :- He/she should consult me as well as an oncologist. Then he/she can take the decision. You see more information leads to better decision.

Q :- Now that is a diplomatic answer, are you saying that you will prefer your treatment along with established treatments?

A :- There is really no defined answer to that. It will depend upon the stage of the cancer and the changes occurring after my treatment. What matters most is the well being of the patient.

But I will always prefer that patient take ayurvedic treatment before trying established treatments.

Q :- OK What is the success rate of your treatment ?

A :- Same as any other pathy, stage 1 and stage 2 cancer has a good success rate whereas with stage3 and stage 4 cancers, success rate is low.

Q :- So why should I go for ayurvedic treatment for my cancer ?

A :- Because it is very safe, ayurvedic medicines can improve the quality of life exceptionally well let it be increasing the haemoglobin count or stopping that bleeding or stopping that diarrhea we can do a lot. And most importantly, because ayurvedic medicines can improve your lifespan. It has been proven now that ayurvedic treatment can do that for cancer patients.

Q :- OK last question, let me be very frank with you. I m suffering from cancer of the ovary which has spread to my omentum and bones. I have undergone major surgery to remove the growth and still undergoing chemotherapy. Doctor I m scared, frustrated, depressed and literally going through hell and nobody is giving me even hopes. Can you help?

A:- I will be equally frank with you, cancer scares everybody, even the doctor. When you see a 6 feet giant of a man surrendering to a few millimeters of tumour, you feel scared .But as I see improvements with each of the new patients, I see hopes. In recent 2 years I have been able to see very surprising improvements in the patients.

So yes I will help you and recommend you to give your best and try this.

Ayurveda approach for Pericarditis

According to ayurveda, this is a dominantly VATA disorder with involvement of KAPHA. But if ayurvedic medicines are taken with diet control, can cure this problem, give strength to heart muscles, reduce congestion of blood vessels. Therefore, ayurvedic medicines are strongly recommended.

Use- To treat infertility ,diarrhea,dysentery.Also used as an antiseptic and a general tonic and thirst reliever

Method- Fresh fruit juice is given as 1 cup once as thirst reliever ,infertility and general tonic .Dried fruit rind ( shell ) powder is given as 1 tsf powder thrice a day in case of diarrhea and dysentery

Juice of pomegtranate gives good results in quickening recovery from tuberculosis ,hepatitis and cardiac ishaemia .

Pieces of fresh rind boiled in a glass of water can be given to stop diarrhea and dysentery

Cultivation – This plant can be grown on land or big terrace instead of pots .It needs plenty of sunlight ,moderate water and rich soil .

To treat respiratory & digestive problems

Method
Half cup infusion of fresh leaves taken internally three times a day for both conditions
• Whole, fresh crushed leaf is added to boiling tea. This helps in reducing cough, sneezing and mild temperature
• Sesame oil in which about three TSP of crushed fresh leaves are boiled can be used to massage joint pain

Gavati Chaha plant

Cultivation of Gavati Chaha / Lemon Grass
This plant prefers good bright sun light and well drained soil. It is propagated from tillers which develop from the base of the mother plant. These tillers should be carefully separated from the plant and replanted.

Remark
Lemon grass is also used for flavoring Thai cuisine and to make pleasantly scented. First tsp of finely chopped leaf is boiled for 5 min. in a cup of water. This decoction with sufficient sugar makes a good refreshing drink. Cymbopogon Nardus or Citronella grass is a closely related species with a smell reminiscent of a typical insect repellant. The stems of this species are in reddish at the base. The crushed leaves can be rubbed on the body as a temporary mosquito repellant.

Costochondritis

Causes of Costochondritis

1) In most cases ,no cause becomes visible
2) Heavy weight lifting
3) A week body itself can give rise to this problem
4) Chronic coughing
5)Sometimes this problem is associated with other disease like rheumatoid arthritisetc

6) In some cases infection of the joints is also seen.

Symptoms of Costochondritis

1) Chest pain which is very severe .sometimes we can see that the pain occurs on the sides of the breast bone.
2) The pain can be associated with weakness ,pallor

Investigations for Costochondritis

1) ECG to rule out cardiac origin of pain
2) Chest x-ray
3) Haemoglobin levels
4) In rare cases CT scan of chest
5) Blood tests for arthritis

Therapeutic approach

1) Treat associated disease if any
2) Cure deficiency if any
3) Morning sun rays are very beneficial for this problem
4) Yog asanas are highly recommended esp-Tadasana
5) Hot fomentation externally can heal
6) Almonds also help

Ayurveda approach

According toayurveda this is a vata disorder with involvement of bone (asthi) and sandhi (joints) .If taken regularly ayurvedic medicines can treat this problem successfully and permanently.Therefor ayurvedic medicines are highly recommended for people having this disease.

2) That Ayurveda is recognized by government authorities,world health organisation.

3) That Ayurveda is good for chronic and metabolic problems where as established medical system is good only for infective and surgical problems.

4) That for some specific disorders, Ayurveda is the only answer e.g. - Cirrhosis of the liver, hemorrhoids, valvular heart disease, eczema etc.

How to find a good Ayurveda doctor

1) Ayurveda doctor is the one, who has done graduation course (a five and a half years of course called bachelor of ayurveda medicine and surgery i.e. B.A.M.S ) or a post graduation course (B.A.M.S + 2 years). Graduation course is having following subjects in the syallbus

a) Anatomy
b) Physiology
c) Pathology
d) Internal medicines
e) Gynecology and obstetrics
f) Paediatrics
g) Medico-legal medicines
h) Surgery
i) Pharmacology
j) Clinical medicines
k) Yoga and vedic philosophy
l) Internship

2) Ayurveda doctor should keep relevant certificates with him/her, and produce them on request

3) See for your doctors association with institutes and other organisations

4) Please find out if your ayurveda doctor is working full time or has other business

5) Please find out if your ayurveda doctor has a system to keep all your records confidentially for at least 10 years

6) Every country has some protocols to register ayurveda doctors, find out if he/she is registered with the concerned authorities.

NON-HODGKIN LYMPHOMAS

Those are a group of lymphoproliferative disorders resulting from clonal expansions of B or T lymphocytes at various stages of differentiation.

Causes of Non-Hodgkin lymphomas

1) Viruses like Epstein barr virus and human T cell leukaemic virus and HIV are said to be responsible for this problem

Symptoms of Non-Hodgkin lymphomas

1) Lymph node enlargement
2) Fever
3) Night sweats
4) Weight loss
5) Extra nodal tumour or tumours

Types of Non-Hodgkin lymphomas

1) low grade lymphoma
2) Intermidiate or high grade lymphoma
3) Paediatric lymphoma

Cold & Sinus problem of a 3 year old kid

We are very thankful to Dr. Rahul Saraf, who cured the cold & Sinus problem of our three year old son.Our son was sensitive to little change in atmosphere & used catch cold often & the illness used prolong for one or two weeks every time. With the help of allopathic medicines his illness was under controll but the problem would occur again.Moreover due to antibiotics his weight reduced .

Chronic spasmodic pain in stomach

I had an appendix operation and ever since the surgery, I was suffering from chronic spasmodic muscular pain for over 3 years. Visited 8-9 doctors over 3 years, every time getting endless pain killers, which started affecting my overall health. When in pain, I had to be in bed for 3-4 days at a stretch, couldn't walk even few meters and couldnt sit for more than 3-4 hours at a time. It had started affecting my work badly. At one time the frequency of pain had reached once in every 10 days with severe pain.

I was really fed up and wondering if I could ever get rid of this pain.
After starting the ayurvedic medication, I started getting better, with frequency and intensity of pain getting lesser. Following diet restrictions and regular ayurvedic medicines, I am finally cured of the pain and enjoying my life again.

Winter and hypertention

Winter is not only about dry skin and hyperacidity. Winter can also bring or agrrevate more serious problems like Irritable bowel syndrome, Piles and Hypertention. Peripheral vasoconstriction due to cold is blamed for elevated blood pressure during winter.

Ayurveda believes that cold weather increases Agni and if Agni is underutilised, overutilised or abused, then it gives rise to hypertention and cardiac problems related to hypertention .

Symptoms of hypertention

1) Headache
2) Restlessness
3) Palpitation
4) Insomnia
5) More sweating
6) Chest pain
7) Irritability
8) Fatigue etc.

If not diagnosed and treated early, hypertention can lead to many serious complications like Heart failure, Paralytic stroke, Retinal damage, Kidney damage etc. Therefore, care should be taken to avoid hypertention during winter

Care to be taken during winter

1) Avoid deep fried and spicy food
2) Avoid more sun exposure, especially after mid-day
3) Avoid mental stress, anger, study and follow relaxation techniques everyday
4) Sleep at least 7 hours continuously in 24 hours
5) Regular walking and yogasana (yoga) also are useful
6) Avoid extreme fasting
7) Avoid smoking, alcohol and more salt
8) Drink plenty of water
9) Persons having history of hypertention should regularly check their blood pressure
10) Add 1 tsf of ponded dhania / coriander fruits in 1 cup of water, keep it overnight and on empty stomach this water is taken as a protection against blood pressure.
