Cleveland Division Of Water Is Asking For Volunteers

How do I know that the Cleveland Division Of Water has volunteers? Because one of them called me last week.

About three weeks ago, I left a message on the "Customer Service" line, as requested. (That's because, the "Estimated Wait Time" extended into 2011.)

I got a call back within a day, as promised. I talked to the rep. The rep sent out a meter reader.

My $600.00 bill was found to be wrong. The original bill for the 4th Q of 2009 that I received showed twice as much water used as was really used, according to the new meter read.

I received a "corrected" bill. It was not corrected, correctly. Follow?

The billing system, which is supposedly new, only took off $50 as opposed to the $400 that it should have.

I called to complain. And then, I called to complain again.

Got a call from a "volunteer." Nice lady. She said she was a volunteer, and was only calling to say that someone will call within 7 days. I'm on day six. (She also said that she would direct her Mom to this website, who was also having an "issue" with her water bill.)

Do you think I should wait by my phone tomorrow?

Cleveland Division Of Water Rings In The New Year With More Erroneous Bills

I just put my 7 inch thick file of water bills away, and all the lovely correspondence one could wish for that went with it, from last year's nightmare.

If you remember, last year thousands of Cleveland Water Company customers were overcharged and it took months and months to resolve. In my own case, I spent about 60 hours of my life dealing with this crap. I received calls from folks all over the city. This website was even mentioned in one of the 7 8 or so Plain Dealer articles concerning the fiasco. I guess the Plain Dealer and the local TV stations will have plenty to do again.

Maybe Mayor Jackson will step up, and get this handled correctly. Once and for all. Look at this letter!

Can someone please send an intervention specialist over to the City Of Cleveland's Water Division?

If something does not change soon, I am afraid that consumers will just drink Pepsi!

The October bills are in the mail. So far, Lyndhurst, Ohio is winning in the category of "Why the heck is my bill 700% higher?"

The Northeast Ohio rumor mill is up and running almost 20 hours a day now.

{Too bad no one can get a job there!}

I am hearing that some City of Cleveland Division Of Water customers who received erroneous bills in the first part of this year have had them reduced. Finally.

Is this true? Please let all of us know, in the form of a comment-below.

You do not even have to put in your real name. I want to make sure everybody who has been affected by this debacle is satisfied.

Non-Water Bill Issue; Look What This Blogger's Neighbor Built Next Door

This year is finding me fighting the City of Cleveland's Division Of Water and my own suburb, University Heights. I launched this website to help fight the Water Department because of an erroneous bill that I, along with 2,000 other Cuyahoga County residents received.

I sure didn't wake up one morning and say to myself, "I want to become a community activist of sorts!"

But, now my other fight has been revealed.

My next door neighbor asked me {In November} if he could build a "storage shed." I said sure-go ahead.

Here is what he built;

University Heights is not exactly known for it's spacious back yards.

So, I just had to post this from Cleveland.com;

"University Heights City Council has overturned a variance granted by the city's Board of Zoning Appeals that permitted an East Carroll Boulevard man to have a larger shed in his back yard than city's code allows."

I hope that I am not jinxing myself here, but after 6 months, numerous hours {30+} of personal time emailing, writing, and calling the City Of Cleveland's Division Of Water to get my little 700% water bill increase resolved, it has been.

So, I guess I'll shut down this website.

Kidding.

I will not shut it down until all 2,000+ Cuyahoga County residents have received their adjustments...

Let's keep this going! Please let me know when your bills have been resolved.

One more thing; Thank you Cleveland media for helping get the story out!

Customers At Cleveland's Division Of Water Being Put On Hold Longer, And Longer, And Longer...

Tuesday. Waiting time on the "customer service" {Not} phone lines were 24 minutes. Sorry, but I do not have time to sit on the phone for that long. I have already invested over 30 hours of my time since January to try to get my erroneous water bills resolved.

Wednesday. A little better. A 17 minute wait. I didn't.

I did get a little adjustment on the latest bill, however.

Now, instead of being 700% more than I have ever ever paid for water, it is down to only 550% more.

Anyone else have a similar positive experience?

Oh. One more thing. I'm not giving up. Are you?

1st Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against The City of Cleveland's Division Of Water

I wonder if this will get Mayor Jackson's attention;

"Angry in Shaker", someone who has been following this site, just informed all of us, via a comment, that a Class Action Lawsuit has been filed against the Cleveland Division Of Water.

Read it below;

"For your information, a class action lawsuit was filed against the water department on June 16,2009 in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, Case no.09 695860, Judge Brendan J. Sheehan. It asks that the water department be required to establish rules concerning the regular reading of meters and a regular schedule for the delivery of bills. Currently, there are no such rules and the water department is not even regulated by any State agency."
