Starting today, all SFI affiliates with the minimum rank of Executive Affiliate (EA), can start pre-registering their local merchants.
It’s this simple:

Visit your favorite merchant(s).
Take a good picture of their storefront.
Go to https://www.sfimg.com/MyAccount/lv_prereg and complete the pre-registration form for the merchant and upload the photo you took.
Monitor your list of registered merchants and results at: https://www.sfimg.com/MyAccount/lv_mymerchants

Then, this fall, when the Localvantia website/search engine goes live, the merchants will be contacted directly to confirm their registration and formally opt in to the program.
Note: Follow-up contact with the merchant may involve SFI and/or you—the affiliate who pre-registered them—so do not pre-register any merchants you’re not willing to follow up on later. What form will the follow-up take? It could take many forms, including mailing literature, leaving a brochure for the owner, phone calls, or meetings.

For your accounts (the merchants for which you are the Account Manager), your reward is the opportunity to earn unlimited Bonus VP (each worth one share of the TripleClicks Executive Pool)!
That is, for each VersaPoint dispensed by your merchants, you’ll earn one Bonus VP!
Imagine you’ve signed up a popular restaurant or grocery store that SFI affiliates shop at, who earn themselves 50,000 VP a month from their purchases there. That’s 50,000 Bonus VP (shares of the TripleClicks Executive Pool) for you each month, just for introducing the merchant to the Localvantia program. And that’s just for ONE merchant; you could have dozens or even hundreds of merchants!

Note: For quality control reasons, you will be limited to a nominal number of pre-registrations per day to start (just one per day to start). We will review all submissions daily. Q: When will Localvantia go live and be available to customers?
We hope to launch Localvantia no later than the end of October.
Q: Why do a “pre-launch,” why not just launch Localvantia now?
Because for Localvantia to succeed, we need our army of affiliates around the world to get to work NOW…pre-registering thousands of local merchants, so that when Localvantia is ready to go live to the public it can have thousands of merchants confirmed and participating.
Q: Won’t taking a picture of the purchase receipt and uploading the picture to receive points be hard to do?
No. Simply take a quick picture of the receipt with your phone’s camera. Then, at the Points Claim Form, you’ll be able to quickly and easily click a button and choose the picture you took and upload it. That’s it. Very simple and easy.
Q: Will merchants be able to see the photo of the receipt?
Yes, that’s the primary reason for uploading the photo, so that merchants can confirm your purchase and pay the points due.
Q: Is Localvantia only for SFI affiliates?
No. For TripleClicks members, MRP (Member Rewards Points) can be earned. So VersaPoints for SFI affiliates, and MRP for TC members.
Q: Will there be a Localvantia app for my smart phone?
Localvantia will be fully mobile-friendly and should work great on your smart phone.
Q: Why will merchants want to participate in the Localvantia program?
Because it will be one of the easiest ways to increase their sales. Think about it: Are YOU more likely to shop at the local merchants in your area that reward you with free VersaPoints? Of course. And what about the dozens, hundreds, or thousands of other affiliates and members in the area? They too will have a great incentive to buy from “Localvantians.”
Q: Is Localvantia expensive for merchants to participate in?
Definitely not. In fact, for most merchants, the sales they’ll get from being in the Localvantia network, will cost them but a few cents. Compared to the cost of advertising in newspapers, on radio, etc., Localvantia may be THE best bargain in advertising and customer retainment they will EVER see.
Q: If merchants have to be invoiced for points, does that mean it will take a long time to get my VersaPoints?
For merchants brand new to the Localvantia network, it may not be real speedy at first, but we plan to streamline the process so it’s very quick and easy for the merchants to pay their invoices. And we hope to get as many merchants as possible on a prepaid plan where they’ll actually deposit funds into an account and we’ll draw from that account immediately when a points claim is submitted. That is, for merchants on the prepaid plan (which will be less expensive for them too), you’ll be able to receive your VersaPoints within hours or even minutes.
Q: I’m an SFI affiliate. Can I get MRP instead of VersaPoints?
VersaPoints will be the default for SFI affiliates but, yes, we will likely make it so you can choose to receive MRP instead. There may other options available in the future too.
Q: Will Localvantia make it easier to recruit new affiliates and keep them active?
We sure think so! Your PSAs can now qualify as Executive Affiliates each month just by buying what they normally buy around town. That’s huge! Add to that that they can be earning shares of the TripleClicks Executive Pool doing this, and earn even more money by just letting others know about it, too. Yes, Localvantia could very well be a game-changer!
Q: Can I pre-register merchants outside of my area?
No. We want all merchants to have a LOCAL contact. Therefore, you are limited to merchants in your area.
Q: How will merchants be convinced to opt in to the Localvantia program?
For starters, Localvantia will clearly be seen as one of the easiest, most affordable methods available for them to create new customers and sales. Being a Localvantia merchant will also give them access to great free tools to help them increase their sales. And then there’s this: All prospective Localvantia merchants will be advised of the number of current SFI affiliates and TC members in their area. Imagine being a merchant and being able to sign up for Localvantia and immediately tap into dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of area affiliates and TC members hungry for free VersaPoints and MRP! Q: Can my PSAs earn 1500 VP (for Executive Affiliate status) just by shopping at Localvantia merchants?
Yes! And not only that, but as an Executive Affiliate they’ll earn one share of the TripleClicks Executive Pool for each VP. In other words, not only can your PSAs earn EA status each month without adding anything to their budget, but they’ll also earn income from SFI…meaning they can get all their groceries, gas, etc. at a discount price!
Q: Will there be a way for affiliates, TC members, and the general public to easily discover the Localvantia merchants in their area?
Absolutely! Localvantia.com will feature a searchable directory of every Localvantia merchant. Every merchant will have a “profile page” with extensive information, photos, ratings and reviews, and more. Example: Looking for Localvantia restaurants? You’ll be able to quickly pull up just these merchants in your area, view photos, read reviews, and more.
Q: What if one of my PSAs is looking for, say, gasoline stations in his area?
Your PSA can go to localvantia.com, do a search on the gasoline/fuel category. Each found merchant will have a profile page so that your PSA can compare the stations, find the one closest to him/her (will include a Google map), and see how much VP they’ll earn by filling up their tank there!
Q: What should the storefront photo look like that we need to take and upload when pre-registering a merchant?

Yes, there will be a nice array of marketing aids available, both of the printed and digital variety, but remember that pre-registering them is the first step—which you can start doing right now.
Q: What about brand new SFI affiliates? How will they know about the merchants in their area that offer VersaPoints for shopping with them?
It will be part of the SFI system once Localvantia is launched. When a new affiliate comes aboard, we’ll let them know about all the Localvantia merchants that they can shop at to earn easy VersaPoints. As their sponsor, you can help make sure they know about Localvantia merchants, too.
Q: Are the merchants I pre-register permanently mine?
That depends on you. All merchants you pre-register need to be thought of as accounts, accounts that must be maintained and cared for. For most merchants, we expect them to opt in to the program without a lot of fuss…and there may be little, if any, ongoing care needed by you, their account manager. However, there will absolutely be some merchants that will require follow-ups by you, which could include direct mail, phone calls, or personal meetings. If you’re not willing to be active in this way, you should not pre-register Localvantia merchants.
Q: What is the point of following up on the merchants I pre-register?
First, and most importantly, a follow-up is the mechanism for getting the merchant to confirm the information you’ve pre-registered and formally opted in to the Localvantia program. Without the merchant doing this, the pre-registration means nothing. Beyond this, we of course want the merchant to be fully aware of ALL of the program’s potential benefits so that they are active participants. This benefits you, the account manager, of course, because it can mean a much higher volume of VersaPoints being dispensed by the merchant–which of course means more Bonus VP and commissions for you.
Q: Are there other aspects of Localvantia for merchants besides just gaining new customers because of SFI sending its affiliates their way?
Yes! Localvantia merchants will have a slick and easy way to create special discounts and deals to bring in existing customers and attract new customers too. And we’ll help them promote their special offers, too, such as by alerting every SFI affiliate and TC member in the area—at little or no cost to the merchant! Other powerful free and inexpensive sales boosters are also planned for Localvantia merchants.
Q: How do I pre-register a merchant for Localvantia?
Here are the simple steps:

Q: What if I don’t do the follow-ups and/or don’t continue to manage my accounts?
If you’re negligent in these areas, your accounts will be eventually reassigned to another account manager in your area, typically one that has demonstrated prowess. The fact is, Localvantia will not be successful if merchants are simply pre-registered and then left to “wither on the vine.” With the Localvantia program, proactiveness by those referring the merchants is key. If we want results, if we want to create a truly powerful and beneficial network of merchants where all SFI affiliates can earn their VersaPoints at, we can’t be bashful or demure. If we want to build something truly great here, we need our merchant accounts in the hands of our most productive affiliates. Ultimately, this is best for everyone.

Is Russia Preparing For A Nuclear War?

Did you know that the Russians have a massive underground complex in the Ural mountains that has been estimated to be approximately 400 square miles in size?

In other words, it is roughly as big as the area inside the Washington D.C. beltway.

These days, most Americans just assume that the Russians are "our friends" and that a war with Russia could never possibly happen.

Today, 81 percent of Russians have a negative opinion of the United States.

Are our two countries taking more and more steps towards World War III?

Judge for yourself...Back in the 1990s, the Clinton administration was deeply concerned about the construction of this enormous complex deep inside Yamantau mountain, but they could never seem to get any straight answers from the Russians. The command center for this complex is rumored to be 3,000 feet directly straight down from the summit of this giant rock quartz mountain. And of course U.S. military officials will admit that there are dozens of other similar sites throughout Russia, although most of them are thought to be quite a bit smaller. But that is not all that the Russians have been up to. For example, Russian television has reported that 5,000 new emergency nuclear bomb shelters were scheduled to have been completed in the city of Moscow alone by the end of 2012. Most Americans don’t realize this, but the Russians have never stopped making preparations for nuclear war. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has essentially done nothing to prepare our citizens for an attack. The assumption seems to be that a nuclear attack will probably never happen, and that if it does it will probably mean the end of our civilization anyway.

Needless to say, the Russians are very secretive about their massive underground facility at Yamantau mountain, and no American has ever been inside. The following is what Wikipedia has to say about it…

Large excavation projects have been observed by U.S. satellite imagery as recently as the late 1990s, during the time of Boris Yeltsin’s government after the fall of the Soviet Union. Two garrisons, Beloretsk-15 and Beloretsk-16, were built on top of the facility, and possibly a third, Alkino-2, as well, and became the closed town of Mezhgorye in 1995. They are said to house 30,000 workers each. Repeated U.S. questions have yielded several different responses from the Russian government regarding Mount Yamantaw. They have said it is a mining site, a repository for Russian treasures, a food storage area, and a bunker for leaders in case of nuclear war. Responding to questions regarding Yamantaw in 1996, Russia’s Defense Ministry stated: “The practice does not exist in the Defense Ministry of Russia of informing foreign mass media about facilities, whatever they are, that are under construction in the interests of strengthening the security of Russia.” Large rail lines serve the facility.

Back in 1996, the New York Times reported on the continuing construction of this site. U.S. officials were quite puzzled that the Russians were continuing to build it even though the Cold War was supposedly over at that point…

In a secret project reminiscent of the chilliest days of the cold war, Russia is building a mammoth underground military complex in the Ural Mountains, Western officials and Russian witnesses say.
Hidden inside Yamantau mountain in the Beloretsk area of the southern Urals, the project involves the construction of a huge complex served by a railroad, a highway and thousands of workers.

Within the U.S. intelligence community, there was a tremendous amount of debate at that time regarding the purposes of this facility, but what everyone agreed on was that it was going to be absolutely massive…

A report in Sovetskaya Rossiya said the project involves construction of a railroad, a modern highway and towns for tens of thousands of workers and their families.
“The complex is as big as the Washington area inside the Beltway,” said an American official familiar with intelligence reports.

A couple of years later, a top U.S. general said that he believed that the complex at Yamantau had “millions of square feet available for underground facilities”…

In 1998, in a rare public comment, then-Commander of the U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) Gen. Eugene Habinger, called Yamantau “a very large complex — we estimate that it has millions of square feet available for underground facilities. We don’t have a clue as to what they’re doing there.”
It is believed to be large enough to house 60,000 persons, with a special air filtration system designed to withstand a nuclear, chemical or biological attack. Enough food and water is believed to be stored at the site to sustain the entire underground population for months on end.

A few years after that, in 2003, there was an article in the Washington Post by Bruce G. Blair in which Yamantau was mentioned as a potential key target for U.S. nuclear war planners…

Die-hard [U.S.] nuclear war planners actually have their eyes on targets in Russia and China, including missile silos and leadership bunkers. For these planners, the Cold War never ended. Their top two candidates [i.e., targets] in Russia are located inside the Yamantau and Kosvinsky mountains in the central and southern Urals.
Both were huge construction projects begun in the late 1970s, when U.S. nuclear firepower took special aim at the Communist Party’s leadership complex. Fearing a decapitating strike, the Soviets sent tens of thousands of workers to these remote sites, where U.S. spy satellites spotted them still toiling away in the late 1990s.

But the Russians have not just been building giant underground facilities deep in the Urals.
They have also been constructing thousands of new underground bomb shelters in major cities such as Moscow.
The following is an excerpt from an RT article in 2010…
Nearly 5,000 new emergency bomb shelters will be built in Moscow by 2012 to save people in case of potential attacks.
Moscow authorities say the measure is urgent as the shelters currently available in the city can house no more that half of its population.
In the last 20 years, the area of air-raid defense has been developed little, and the existing shelters have become outdated. Moreover, they are located mostly in the city center, which makes densely populated Moscow outskirts especially vulnerable in the event of a nuclear attack.

In order to resolve the issue, the city has given architects a task to construct a typical model of an easy-to-build shelter that will be located all over the city 10 to 15 meters underneath apartment blocks, shopping centers, sport complexes and parks, as in case of attack people will need to reach the shelters within a minute.
Of course all of this construction cost the Russians a lot of money.
One estimate put the cost at “anywhere from half a billion to a billion dollars”…

Though the bunkers are supposed to be designed to shelter the population in the event of a nuclear attack, government officials say it’s only a precaution and they do not expect such an attack or nuclear outbreak (e.g. Chernobyl) to occur. Neither RT or the Russian government provided estimates for the cost of the facilities. A Popular Mechanics article that reviewed a number of different types of bunkers and building practices had varying prices depending on the type of shelter. Since the proposed Russian bunkers would hold roughly 1000 people each (based on the population count and other details), one could estimate that the lowest price point for a bunker this size, with basic necessities like bathrooms and reserve food for a day or two, may run in the area of around $100,000 – $200,000. This would put a conservative price tag for 5000 shelters anywhere from half a billion to a billion dollars. A significant investment, indeed.

So what about us?
Has the U.S. government constructed any bunkers for the survival of the general population in the United States?
Of course not. In the event of a nuclear war, I guess they just expect pretty much all of us to die.
The Russians also recently finished work on a brand new national defense center in Moscow that contains extensive underground facilities…

Russia is launching a new national defense facility, which is meant to monitor threats to national security in peacetime, but would take control of the entire country in case of war.
The new top-security, fortified facility in Moscow includes several large war rooms, a brand new supercomputer in the heart of a state-of-the-art data processing center, underground facilities, secret transport routes for emergency evacuation and a helicopter pad, which was deployed for the first time on Nov. 24 on the Moscow River. The Defense Ministry won’t disclose the price tag for the site, but it is estimated at the equivalent of several billion dollars.

In addition, the Russians have also been developing a new anti-ballistic missile system that is designed to keep U.S. nuclear missiles from getting to their targets in the first place.
The U.S. doesn’t have anything like the S-500 that is currently being developed by the Russians. At the latest, it is scheduled to be deployed in 2017, but there are rumors that it is already starting to be deployed today. The following comes from military-today.com…

The S-500 is not an upgrade of the S-400, but a new design. It uses a lot of new technology and is superior to the S-400. It was designed to intercept ballistic missiles. It is planned to have a range of 500-600 km and hit targets at altitudes as high as 40 km. Some sources claim that this system is capable of tracking 5-20 ballistic targets and intercepting up to 5-10 ballistic targets simultaneously. It can defeat ballistic missiles traveling at 5-7 kilometers per second. It has been reported that this air defense system can also target low orbital satellites. It is planned that the S-500 will shield Moscow and the regions around it. It will replace the current A-135 anti-ballistic missile system. The S-500 missiles will be used only against the most important targets, such as intercontinental ballistic missiles, AWACS and jamming aircraft.

Sadly, most Americans are not interested in this stuff at all.
These days, most Americans just assume that the Russians are “our friends” and that a war with Russia could never possibly happen.
What they don’t realize is that the Russian people see things very, very differently. Today, 81 percent of Russians have a negative opinion of the United States. Our interference in the conflict in Ukraine has made the Russian people very angry, and there are many over there that now believe that a shooting war with the United States is inevitable.
And this week things between the United States and Russia got even more tense. Barack Obama has already announced that we will be sending “non-lethal” military aid to the Ukrainians, but now the U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a resolution that calls for Obama to send “lethal” military aid to the government in Kiev…

Yesterday, in a vote that largely slid under the radar, the House of Representatives passed a resolution urging Obama to send lethal aid to Ukraine, providing offensive, not just “defensive” weapons to the Ukraine army – the same insolvent, hyperinflating Ukraine which, with a Caa3/CC credit rating, last week started preparations to issue sovereign debt with a US guarantee, in essence making it a part of the United States (something the US previously did as a favor to Egypt before the Muslim Brotherhood puppet regime was swept from power by the local army).
The resolution passed with broad bipartisan support by a count of 348 to 48.
According to DW, the measure urges Obama to provide Ukraine with “lethal defensive weapon systems” that would better enable Ukraine to defend its territory from “the unprovoked and continuing aggression of the Russian Federation.”
“Policy like this should not be partisan,” said House Democrat Eliot Engel, the lead sponsor of the resolution. “That is why we are rising today as Democrats and Republicans, really as Americans, to say enough is enough in Ukraine.”

If Obama does decide to send lethal military aid to the Ukrainians, the Russians are going to flip out. Sadly, neither side seems very interested in peace at this point.
We just continue to take even more steps along the road toward World War III, and it is a war that the United States is completely and utterly unprepared for.

For a long time, I've been warning you that the big box stores are being less than honest with you when it comes to supplements. In fact, it appears they want to rip you off.

Investigators in New York State have discovered that the merchandising giants, riding high on the health-and-wellness wave, have been overcharging customers for cut-rate herbs, vitamins, minerals and other supplements.

You may have read about it or heard it on the news. But it's even worse than I previously thought.

I started out warning you to stay away from synthetic multi-vitamins that require 400 times the recommended dose to do you any good.¹ The big box stores are in the habit of buying the cheapest products possible so they can make the biggest profits possible.

And that means they end up with capsules of manmade Franken-vitamins that customers buy in good faith to improve their health.

As I have been saying for years… they don't improve your health!

Some of these manmade monstrosities have even been chemically conjured out of coal tar, a known carcinogen.²

Technically, these vitamins have the same molecular structure as the natural vitamins. But your body can't absorb them properly, so they pass right through your system without doing any good – or perhaps even doing harm along the way.

So they are not just pointlessly taking your money, they might also be robbing you of your health.

Vitamins from truly natural sources, usually plants, come with trace minerals, enzymes and other biochemicals. All of these help them work better with your biology.

For example, the natural form of vitamin E has a significantly higher anti-oxidant effect than the synthetic form.^3,4

Then I warned you to avoid a useless form of synthetic CoQ10. This is not the natural product that gives your cells energy, but an alien molecule whipped up by Big Agra from pesticide-laden tobacco leaves.

Now we've discovered that you can't even count on getting the herbs you pay for at many of the major chain stores.

The scandal has cast a shadow over all the honest people who provide honest supplements – including myself.

I care deeply about the health and well-being of my patients. And I am appalled at the dishonesty of many of these chains.

In New York State, the attorney general has accused GNC, Target, Walmart and Walgreens of selling bogus bottles of ginseng, gingko biloba, St. John's Wort, valerian root and other herbs.⁵

Investigators charge that four-out-of-five of the bottles they tested from the stores' shelves didn't contain even a bit of DNA from the herb on the label.

Instead, investigators found most of the capsules contained fillers, like rice scraps, spruce clippings, and houseplant shreds. Some other odd ingredients were peas, beans, radish, and asparagus.

Worst of all, investigators have charged that some of capsules contained wheat, which made them a health hazard to anyone who's allergic to the grain. In one case, these capsules were sold in a bottle labeled "wheat and gluten free."

State prosecutors have now demanded proof of source and that the herbs had been tested for the quality claimed on many of the bottles.

As a physician who cares deeply about the well-being of all my patients, I can vouch for every ingredient in each and every one of the supplements that I prescribe.

The most reputable suppliers provide a Certificate of Analysis, or COA. Every COA verifies that the ingredients have been tested to prove they contain the proper contents in their proper quantities.

COAs also tell you what's not in the ingredients. They confirm they've been tested and found to be free of toxic heavy metals, like mercury and lead. Among other tests, they show the ingredients are also free of microbial agents, like salmonella and E.coli.

COAs are essentially a pedigree for the product, and I make sure my products have the finest pedigrees.

For example, when I decided to put omega-3s in one of my products, I didn't settle for getting them from any old fish oil supplier. I know a lot of fish oil can't be trusted, because our rivers, lakes and oceans have become so polluted.

That's why I did so much research and formulated a safe and potent mixture of squid oil, krill oil, and another special fish oil. But before I bought the oils, I made sure they were pure and pollution free.

Heavy metal pollution becomes worse the higher you go up the food chain. Big fish have more mercury in them than little fish, because the big fish absorb this toxic metal from all the little fish they eat. That's why I used oil from krill, tiny crustaceans at the bottom of the food chain.

And to make sure the oils were free of toxins, I insisted they go through a rigorous, cold-filtration process. Afterward, tests by Consumerlab.com revealed the oils were free of chemicals, like PCBs and solvents, as well as heavy metals, like mercury.

In fact, the cold-filtration process even boosted the oils' levels of anti-inflammatory fats by 115 percent of what I reported on the label.

I doubt than anybody at GNC, Target, Walmart, Walgreens or any other mega-outlet went through as much trouble as I did to ensure the quality of any of their products.

So here's my advice: You get what you pay for. Good-quality herbs and supplements don't come cheap. They take a lot of hard work and dedication to get right.

You need to deal with someone you can trust. So don't be afraid to ask questions about where their products came from. If they can't provide specific details, that's a red flag.

And always ask to see their COA. We print ours right on the bottle.

What is Superfish?

Superfish is a piece of software that Lenovo has admitted to pre-installing on many of its laptops to "enhance the shopping experience" of its users. However, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team calls Superfish a "man-in-the-middle attack" because of how it "intercepts users' web traffic to provide targeted advertisements."

Why is Superfish so dangerous?

Superfish snoops in on your web browsing and secretly slips ads into webpages. But the really dangerous part is that it's pre-installed with root certificate authority, which allows it to impersonate any server's security certificate.

If this certificate is compromised by hackers, you could be tricked into logging in to a fake website and giving hackers your password. Because of Superfish, any of your accounts—including encrypted bank accounts—could be easily compromised.

Will restoring from a backup help?

10 Animals That Can Predict Disasters

Anecdotal evidence has long suggested that certain animals can predict natural disasters, detect disease and more, and now science is proving many of these stories to be correct.
Close observation of such animals could even help people to plan well in advance of coming problems, suggests a new paper in the latest issue of the journal Current Biology.
Henry Streby of the University of California, Berkeley, and his colleagues discovered that golden-winged warblers take off from their expected locations more than 24 hours before storms hit. In this case, the storm in question produced tornadoes that killed at least 35 people.
"The most curious finding is that the birds left long before the storm arrived," said Streby. "At the same time that meteorologists on The Weather Channel were telling us this storm was headed in our direction, the birds were apparently already packing their bags and evacuating the area."

Dogs can sniff out prostate cancer with 98 percent accuracy, found a study earlier this year that was presented at the 109th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Urological Association.
Dogs have about 200 million olfactory cells in their noses, versus only 5 million in the human nose. Their keen sense of smell helps to explain the cancer-detecting feat.
Yet another study on dogs found that they can smell -- through a person's breath or sweat -- whether or not a diabetic person has high or low blood sugar.

After the 2011 magnitude 9 earthquake in Japan, Hiroyuki Yamauchi of National Tsing Hua University and colleagues conducted a survey on how cats reacted ahead of the quake.
The survey found that six or more days before the devastating earthquake, some cats engaged in unusual behaviors and became more stressed out. Felines began "trembling, being restless and escaping." Still other cats, immediately prior to the quake, became just as agitated.
The researchers believe that cats may sense quakes ahead of time because they have a wider range of hearing than humans. They also might be able to detect changes in atmospheric pressure, gravity and ground deformation.

Yamauchi and colleagues also found that cows behaved differently several days before the magnitude 9 earthquake in Japan. Specifically, cows "showed lowered milk production six days before the earthquake," they reported. The decrease in milk yield continued for another four days.
Owners also reported that their dogs were agitated in the days before the quake. Dogs would howl and bark in ways not typical of their normal behavior.

So far, the animals on this list have all displayed stress or a desire to run away ahead of natural disasters. Sharks are just the opposite. They seem to be the ultimate storm chasers.
Neil Hammerschlag of The R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program at the University of Miami found this out after tagging sharks, such as tiger sharks. They and other shark species gravitate to rapid temperature changes, which is exactly where storms usually intensify. Monitoring shark movements can help to predict where storms will emerge and develop.

Like dogs, fruit flies can smell cancer even when it affects only a small number of cells. In fact, they can sniff out cancer cells from healthy ones using their sense of smell alone, according to a study conducted earlier this year by Alja Lüdke and colleagues at the University of Konstanz.
The study focused on different types of breast cancer, but it is likely that fruit flies can detect other types of cancer too.
"As not only cancer cells can be distinguished from healthy cells, but also subgroups were discernible within the cancer cells, it seems that even different types of breast cancer cells can be differentiated via the antenna of Drosophila (fruit flies)," Lüdke explained to ScienceDaily.
Clearly medical experts do not plan to have dogs or fruit flies sniffing around in examination rooms. Instead, scientists are hoping to create high tech pre-screening devices inspired by the detection methods of dogs and fruit flies.

Silvertip grizzly bears have an amazing sense of smell, such that they can sniff out a human that is 18 miles away. The same olfactory prowess, combined with other sensory abilities, likely allows them to detect incoming storms and possibly other natural disasters. They could probably smell cancer too, but running studies on these formidable carnivores would pose challenges.

Humans have super sensory detective powers too, such as bat-like echolocation that could be used to predict any number of natural disasters.

Usually such skills are more developed in people who meditate or who have disabilities, such as blindness, which causes the brain to tap into seemingly hidden abilities. A study on the phenomenon was published in the journal PLOS ONE.
Mel Goodale, Canada Research Chair in Visual Neuroscience, and Director of the Center for Brain and Mind, said in a press release, "It is clear echolocation enables blind people to do things otherwise thought to be impossible without vision and can provide blind and visually-impaired people with a high degree of independence."
It stands to reason that our senses might also pick up cues given off by earthquakes, storms and other natural disasters before they fully strike.

There has only been one other time in history when the price of oil has crashed by more than 40 dollars in less than 6 months. The last time this happened was during the second half of 2008, and the beginning of that oil price crash preceded the great financial collapse that happened later that year by several months. Well, now it is happening again, but this time the stakes are even higher. When the price of oil falls dramatically, that is a sign that economic activity is slowing down. It can also have a tremendously destabilizing affect on financial markets. As you will read about below, energy companies now account for approximately 20 percent of the junk bond market. And a junk bond implosion is usually a signal that a major stock market crash is on the way. So if you are looking for a “canary in the coal mine”, keep your eye on the performance of energy junk bonds. If they begin to collapse, that is a sign that all hell is about to break loose on Wall Street.
It would be difficult to overstate the importance of the shale oil boom to the U.S. economy. Thanks to this boom, the United States has become the largest oil producer on the entire planet.
Yes, the U.S. now actually produces more oil than either Saudi Arabia or Russia. This “revolution” has resulted in the creation of millions of jobs since the last recession, and it has been one of the key factors that has kept the percentage of Americans that are employed fairly stable.
Unfortunately, the shale oil boom is coming to an abrupt end. As a recent Vox article discussed, OPEC has essentially declared a price war on U.S. shale oil producers…

For all intents and purposes, OPEC is now engaged in a “price war” with the United States. What that means is that it’s very cheap to pump oil out of places like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. But it’s more expensive to extract oil from shale formations in places like Texas and North Dakota. So as the price of oil keeps falling, some US producers may become unprofitable and go out of business. The result? Oil prices will stabilize and OPEC maintains its market share.

If the price of oil stays at this level or continues falling, we will see a significant number of U.S. shale oil companies go out of business and large numbers of jobs will be lost. The Saudis know how to play hardball, and they are absolutely ruthless. In fact, we have seen this kind of scenario happen before…

Robert McNally, a White House adviser to former President George W. Bush and president of the Rapidan Group energy consultancy, told Reuters that Saudi Arabia “will accept a price decline necessary to sweat whatever supply cuts are needed to balance the market out of the US shale oil sector.” Even legendary oil man T. Boone Pickens believes Saudi Arabia is in a stand-off with US drillers and frackers to “see how the shale boys are going to stand up to a cheaper price.” This has happened once before. By the mid-1980’s, as oil output from Alaska’s North Slope and the North Sea came on line (combined production of around 5-6 million barrels a day), OPEC set off a price war to compete for market share. As a result, the price of oil sank from around $40 to just under $10 a barrel by 1986.

But the energy sector has been one of the only bright spots for the U.S. economy in recent years. If this sector starts collapsing, it is going to have a dramatic negative impact on our economic outlook. For example, just consider the following numbers from a recent Business Insider article…

Specifically, if prices get too low, then energy companies won’t be able to cover the cost of production in the US. This spending by energy companies, also known as capital expenditures, is responsible for a lot of jobs.
“The Energy sector accounts for roughly one-third of S&P 500 capex and nearly 25% of combined capex and R&D spending,” Goldman Sachs’ Amanda Sneider writes.

Even more troubling is what this could mean for the financial markets.
As I mentioned above, energy companies now account for close to 20 percent of the entire junk bond market. As those companies start to fail and those bonds start to go bad, that is going to hit our major banks really hard…

Everyone could suffer if the collapse triggers a wave of defaults through the high-yield debt market, and in turn, hits stocks. The first to fall: the banks that were last hit by the housing crisis.
Why could that happen?
Well, energy companies make up anywhere from 15 to 20 percent of all U.S. junk debt, according to various sources.

It would be hard to overstate the seriousness of what the markets could potentially be facing.
One analyst summed it up to CNBC this way…

“This is the one thing I’ve seen over and over again,” said Larry McDonald, head of U.S strategy at Newedge USA’s macro group. “When high yield underperforms equity, a major credit event occurs. It’s the canary in the coal mine.“

The last time junk bonds collapsed, a major stock market crash followed fairly rapidly.
And those that were hardest hit were the big Wall Street banks…

During the last high-yield collapse, which centered around debt tied to the housing sector, Citigroup lost 63 percent of its value in the following 60 days, Kensho shows. Bank of America was cut in half.

I understand that some of this information is too technical for a lot of people, but the bottom line is this…
Watch junk bonds. When they start crashing it is a sign that a major stock market collapse is right at the door.
At this point, even the mainstream media is warning about this. Just consider the following excerpt from a recent CNN article…

That swing away from junk bonds often happens shortly before stock market downturns.
“High yield does provide useful sell signals to equity investors,” Barclays analysts concluded in a recent report.
Barclays combed through the past dozen years of data. The warning signal they found is a 30% or greater increase in the spread between Treasuries and junk bonds before a dip.

Russia taking McDonald's to court, threatens countrywide shutdown

(NaturalNews) The scary-looking clown named Ronald McDonald and his minions are going to court.

Russia, which has already denounced genetically modified food earlier this year, is now taking McDonald's to court. A Moscow court recently announced that the fast food chain has violated Russia's nutrition and safety codes for many of its burger and ice cream products.

The case is set to be heard at Tverskoi District Court. Russian health officials are already threatening to place a temporary ban on McDonald's ice cream, milkshakes, cheeseburgers, and Filet-O-Fish and chicken sandwiches. A hearing is scheduled for August 13.

Safety of the entire McDonald's fast food chain called into question by Russian health officials

The Interfax news agency reported that Russia's consumer protection agency has identified several product quality violations that have called into question the safety and integrity of the entire McDonald's food chain. The McDonald's products under question contain more fats and carbohydrates than are allowed by Russia's health-conscious regulations.

Inspections at two McDonald's restaurants in Novgorod found that caloric values of milk shakes, fish sandwiches and Royal Cheeseburgers (the Russian equivalent of Quarter Pounders) exceeded safety standards, harboring two to three times more calories per serving than legally allowed.

This means that the court could temporarily shut down all of McDonald's operations in Russia. A spokesperson for the Tverskoi District Court, Yekaterina Korotova, didn't comment on the matter but relayed that the consumer protection agency is demanding that the court "halt McDonald's illegal activity."

Will Russia push McDonald's out of their country for good?

Big Mac bun is nothing close to real bread

While calorie, fat and carbohydrate levels of McDonald's food measure through the roof, it's what the food is made out of that should be most troubling to consumers.

For example, a Big Mac bun is not real bread but, instead, a mixture of bleached wheat, malted barley flour, thiamin mononitrate and fake vitamin enrichments. This enriched flour is mixed with the biotech industry's usual flavor science of high-fructose corn syrup and soybean and canola oil. A couple of ammonia compounds like ammonium sulfate and ammonium chloride are added along with dangerous conditioners like azodicarbonamide, which is outlawed in some countries. McDonald's also preserves its buns using sorbic acid, calcium propionate and sodium propionate, while conditioning the dough further by using ingredients like sodium stearoyl lactylate, DATEM and mono- and diglycerides. I don’t mean actual Ebola, of course. I mean are you suffering from the FEAR of an Ebola pandemic wiping out millions worldwide?
If those designed-to-shock Ebola headlines have you feeling jumpy, let me ease your worries. You have a better chance of scoring the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl than of picking up the Ebola virus. So there’s no cause for concern for you or your family.

USB device viruses could evade all known security

USB devices such as keyboards, thumb-drives and mice can be used to hack into personal computers in a potential new class of attacks that evade all known security protections, a top computer researcher revealed on Thursday.
Karsten Nohl, chief scientist with Berlin's SR Labs, noted that hackers could load malicious software onto tiny, low-cost computer chips that control functions of USB devices but which have no built-in shields against tampering with their code.
"You cannot tell where the virus came from. It is almost like a magic trick," said Nohl, whose research firm is known for uncovering major flaws in mobile phone technology.

The finding shows that bugs in software used to run tiny electronics components that are invisible to the average computer user can be extremely dangerous when hackers figure out how to exploit them. Security researchers have increasingly turned their attention to uncovering such flaws.
Nohl said his firm has performed attacks by writing malicious code onto USB control chips used in thumb drives and smartphones. Once the USB device is attached to a computer, the malicious software can log keystrokes, spy on communications and destroy data, he said.

Computers do not detect the infections when tainted devices are inserted because anti-virus programs are only designed to scan for software written onto memory and do not scan the "firmware" that controls the functioning of those devices, he said.
Nohl and Jakob Lell, a security researcher at SR Labs, will describe their attack method at next week's Black Hat hacking conference in Las Vegas, in a presentation titled: "Bad USB—On Accessories that Turn Evil."
Thousands of security professionals gather at the annual conference to hear about the latest hacking techniques, including ones that threaten the security of business computers, consumer electronics and critical infrastructure.

Nohl said he would not be surprised if intelligence agencies, like the National Security Agency, have already figured out how to launch attacks using this technique.
Last year, he presented research at Black Hat on breakthrough methods for remotely attacking SIM cards on mobile phones. In December, documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden demonstrated that the U.S. spy agency was using a similar technique for surveillance, which it called "Monkey Calendar."
An NSA spokeswoman declined to comment.

SR Labs tested the technique by infecting controller chips made by major Taiwanese manufacturer, Phison Electronics, and placing them in USB memory drives and smartphones running Google Android operating system.
Alex Chiu, an attorney with Phison, told Reuters via email that Nohl had contacted the company about his research in May.

USB flash drive for Apple has one big limitation. Daniel Chin, Sanho Corporation founder and CEO, hopes to produce the USB flash drive for Apple devices through a kickstarter campaign. Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary questions the product's capabilities.

"Mr. Nohl did not offer detailed analysis together with work product to prove his finding," Chiu said. "Phison does not have ground to comment (on) his allegation."
Chiu said that "from Phison's reasonable knowledge and belief, it is hardly possible to rewrite Phison's controller firmware without accessing our confidential information."
Similar chips are made by Silicon Motion Technology and Alcor Micro. Nohl said his firm did not test devices with chips from those manufacturers.

Google did not respond to requests for comment. Officials with Silicon Motion and Alcor Micro could not immediately be reached.
Nohl believed hackers would have a "high chance" of corrupting other kinds of controller chips besides those made by Phison, because their manufacturers are not required to secure software. He said those chips, once infected, could be used to infect mice, keyboards and other devices that connect via USB.
"The sky is the limit. You can do anything at all," he said.

Cybersecurity in the crosshairs. Michael DeCesare, McAfee president, says the role of security firms has shifted from defense to offense as companies scramble to protect themselves from the increasing threat of cyberattacks. And John Stumpf, Wells Fargo CEO, weighs in.

In his tests, Nohl said he was able to gain remote access to a computer by having the USB instruct the computer to download a malicious program with instructions that the PC believed were coming from a keyboard. He was also able to change what are known as DNS network settings on a computer, essentially instructing the machine to route Internet traffic through malicious servers.
Once a computer is infected, it could be programmed to infect all USB devices that are subsequently attached to it, which would then corrupt machines that they contact.
"Now all of your USB devices are infected. It becomes self-propagating and extremely persistent," Nohl said. "You can never remove it."

Christof Paar, a professor of electrical engineering at Germany's University of Bochum who reviewed the findings, said he believed the new research would prompt others to take a closer look at USB technology, and potentially lead to the discovery of more bugs. He urged manufacturers to improve protection of their chips to thwart attacks.
"The manufacturer should make it much harder to change the software that runs on a USB stick," Paar said.

The situation in Iraq is truly worrisome, as militants threaten to tear the country asunder and disrupt the fragile, short-lived period absent all-out war there.

We have strategic interests in preventing Iraq from unraveling, not least of which is that we don’t need the country to become a haven for terrorists, particularly those who might see America as a target.

And of course, there is the uneasy subject of oil: Volatility in the region has already sent global oil prices soaring. On Wednesday, militants were said to have taken control of Iraq’s largest oil refinery.

We have to tread carefully here. There are no saints to be seen in this situation. Everyone’s hands are bloody. And, we don’t want to again get mired in a conflict in a country from which we have only recently extricated ourselves.

As we weigh our response, one of the last people who should say anything on the subject is a man who is partly responsible for the problem.

But former Vice President Dick Cheney, who was in the administration that deceived us into a nine-year war in Iraq, just can’t seem to keep his peace.

In an Op-Ed published with his daughter, Liz, in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, the Cheneys write:

“Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many.”

This, from the man who helped lead us into this trumped-up war, searching for nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, a war in which some 4,500 members of the American military were killed, many thousands more injured, and that is running a tab of trillions of dollars.

During the lead-up to the war, Mr. Cheney said to Tim Russert: “I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators.” Nothing could have been further from the truth.

Even if it were indeed rare to be “so wrong,” as Mr. Cheney puts it, he was vice president in an administration that was much more tragically wrong. His whole legacy is wrapped in wrong.

At one point in the article, the Cheneys state:

“Iraq is at risk of falling to a radical Islamic terror group and Mr. Obama is talking climate change. Terrorists take control of more territory and resources than ever before in history, and he goes golfing.”

Mr. Cheney must think that we have all forgotten the scene from “Fahrenheit 9/11,” Michael Moore’s 2004 documentary, in which President George W. Bush, brandishing a club on a golf course, looks into the camera and says,

“I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you.”

That is quickly followed by, “Now, watch this drive,” and a shot of Bush swinging at the ball.

In fact, on one of the rare occasions that Mr. Cheney was actually right, in 1994, he warned about the problems that would be created by deposing Saddam Hussein:

“Once you got to Iraq and took it over, and took down Saddam Hussein’s government, then what are you going to put in its place? That’s a very volatile part of the world, and if you take down the central government of Iraq you can easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off. Part of it the Syrians would like to have to the west. Part of eastern Iraq, the Iranians would like to claim, fought over for eight years. In the north you’ve got the Kurds, and if the Kurds spin loose and join with the Kurds in Turkey, then you threaten the territorial integrity of Turkey. It’s a quagmire.”

That was quite prescient. And yet, the Bush administration pushed us into the Iraq war anyway, and the quagmire we now confront.

That’s why it’s so galling to read Mr. Cheney chastising this administration for its handling of the disaster that Mr. Cheney himself foresaw, but ignored.

I know that we as Americans have short attention spans, but most of us don’t suffer from amnesia. The Bush administration created this mess, and the Obama administration now has to clean it up.

The Cheneys wrote: “This president is willfully blind to the impact of his policies,” Mr. Cheney seemingly oblivious to the irony.

George W. Bush may well have been a disaster of a president (in a 2010 Siena College Research Institute survey, 238 presidential scholars ranked Bush among the five “worst ever” presidents in American history), but at least he has the dignity and grace — or shame and humility — to recede from public life with his family and his painting, and not chide and meddle with the current administration as it tries to right his wrong.

Mr. Cheney, meanwhile, is still trying to bend history toward an exoneration of his guilt and an expunging of his record. But history, on this, is stiff, and his record is written in blood.

You might think there's nothing worse than being crammed into a tiny seat on an airplane next to a passenger who smells like he hasn't bathed in days. But even if you have the row to yourself, there are other passengers on the plane you can't see or smell.

And they could make you sick.

New research confirms that bacteria just love common airplane surfaces -- including just about everything on the aircraft that you're likely to touch.

When you return your tray table to its upright position, for example, you could come into contact with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or the nasty fecal germ E. coli O157.

MRSA can live on that plastic tray for up to five days, while E. coli could live there for three days, according to experiments.

Don't even think about reaching for the magazine in the seatback pocket -- and whatever you do, don't store anything of your own in there (especially not your water bottle or midflight snack).

The same tests find that MRSA can live in the cloth of that pocket for up to a week.

MRSA can live on the rubber part of the armrest for six days, while E. coli can linger there for four days.

The bugs can also survive on the window shade, metal surfaces and of course the toilet handles for days at a time, according to the experiments.

These are germs that could leave you sick for days -- and in some cases, they can be superbugs that are untreatable with common antibiotics, which is why it's essential to limit your contact with them.

Of course, this doesn't mean you shouldn't fly. It just means you need to be smart about it.

First, consider that cloth pocket off limits. Don't touch the magazine in there, and don't store anything of yours inside it.

Bring some alcohol-based wipes and clean the armrests and your tray table, including the sides and underside since those are the parts you'll touch when you push it back up.

Wash your hands regularly, and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer before eating.

And before you travel, be sure to boost your immune system with healthy vitamins and probiotics, especially if you're heading off to another country where you'll come into contact with bugs that your body isn't familiar with.

In 1990 the Department of Defense published a “Chemtrails” manual for pilot training at the USAF Academy..

In the mid-1990′s unmarked military aircraft were observed spraying aerosols from ports located in the wings and around the exhaust of the jet engines.

In recent years, civilian aircraft are increasingly contracted to secretly spray aerosols through ports located near the engines and airframe. This video provides a well documented example of commercial aircraft spraying chemtrails over Gainsville and North Florida involving AIRTRAN airways.

IPCC scientists also admit CO2 from aircraft will grow 3% per year but make no recommendation about using alternative forms of travel.

While not admitting that aircraft are spraying tons of aerosols into the atmosphere these same scientists say that contrails and artificial clouds have a profound effect on the climate and tend to warm global surface temperatures.

Ask yourself:

“If global warming is real, why are these aircraft secretly spraying aerosols that are known by UN/IPCC scientists, to warm the climate?”
