During it’s first day (Saturday 21st August 2010), the shop took in £340.

Since opening it’s doors it has gone on to expand to include a Book Room, Furniture Store and much more, this month sees the opening of their ‘Christmas Shop’.

Pictured here during Ron’s recent visit to the UK are Maureen and David Quinn presenting a cheque for £5,000 to Ron which brings the total raised by the Charity Shop to £30,000….a HUGE Thank You goes to Maureen (Charity Shop Manager) for all her enthusiasm and hard work and also to all the faithful Volunteers who come along week by week to help keep the shop running smoothly…..

Saving Maria - The McDaniels Newsletter Vol. 6

Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus!

Great war movies are awesome and one of the best has to be Saving Private Ryan. In this movie we see the great sacrifices made by so many in an effort to save one American GI. As the story goes, Ryan is one of 4 brothers serving in Europe during WWII. Three of his brothers die in combat and the bereaved mom receives the death notices on the same day. General Marshall sends orders to the Normandy front to by all possible means find young Ryan and send him home to his mom. Tom Hanks, plays the fictitious character of Capt Miller and leads a hand selected team in search of Private Ryan. After numerous intense firefights and extreme difficulty, Private Ryan is located and begins his reluctant trip home. In a riveting scene near the ending, Capt Miller lies mortally wounded and utters his last words to Private Ryan -EARN this! My words certainly can’t do justice to the high drama of this scene. Wow, such a powerful, gut wrenching movie! So much sacrifice to save one man.

Last week up in Quiche, the Lord brought this story to my mind while on an evangelistic home visitation near Cuatro Caminos. Steve led a team from Cedar Creek Church located in Aiken, SC up to Quiche to visit some families up in our mountain Feeding Programs. It rained so intensely that on our first day in Quiche we were limited to visitations in Zacualpa and Chixocol. We really wanted to get up the mountain, but the rains continued and it looked as though we would not be able to make it up on our second day either. After much prayer we decided to go for it! The rains were heavy and the dirt road up the mountain was nearly impassable. Our Toyota 4x4 pickups labored heavily as we inched our way up to approximately 9k feet above sea level.

Getting as close as we could, we left the trucks by the road and made our way through the cornfields, streams, and up and down the steep ravines which lead to Maria’s little home. After an arduous hour’s walk, we arrived. We brought beans, rice, gifts, and of course candy. I was so excited to make this visit with Maria because back in Aug, we had visited her with members from our home church, Liberty Havelock, NC. During that visit, Mario Chivalan our Quiche guide informed us that Maria was not receptive at all to the Gospel nor welcoming on a prior visit. With Mario’s help we shared the Gospel and Maria was so close to accepting, but hesitated. She told us that her husband was not in agreement, so she could not go against his decision. We did our very best to convince Maria, but she would not budge. During this visit though, something was different about Maria. After a short chat in the rain, we began sharing with her once again the Gospel. Maria still would not commit. Not giving up, we used our Evangelism Explosion training, asking Maria directly: If you were to die today do you know where you would go? This time it all made sense to Maria and she agreed to accept Jesus! Right there outside of her little home in the rain, we all prayed with Maria as she confessed her sins and received God’s gift of salvation. Glory to God! The EXTRAordinary God we serve still uses ordinary men and women like us to reconcile His children to Him!

Reflecting once again on the epic story of Capt Miller, his valiant men, and their quest to save Private Ryan, I am moved as I consider their bravery, selflessness, and dedication. However, dear friends we must never lose sight of what the God of Heaven did for each of us in sending His one and only son Jesus to this earth to die for our sins.

I am stirred in my spirit as I ponder the great service and sacrifice of the King of Kings and all that He did in saving my life. I am both honored and challenged as well, as I consider the fact that similar to the fictitious character of Capt Miller, all Christian soldiers have received orders to go and save the lost of this world.

Thank you LWI. Thank you Cedar Creek. Most of all, thank you Jesus for Saving Maria! We appreciate each of you and thank God for your prayers and support. There is so much good going on here in Guatemala. In September, Bro Ron appointed Steve as the Director of Operations for Guatemala. May the Lord bless you and all that you do prosper!

As the Kingdoms of this world are facing an ever worsening crisis economically and their leaders struggle to find solutions, we are reminded to keep our focus on the Kingdom of God. Jesus told us that there would be signs that would indicate that His return could happen soon.

We personally think that we're seeing more and more of those signs although Jesus Himself said even He did not know the day nor the hour but only the Father knew. With this crisis affecting most families and churches we are encouraged that He also said for us to "See that you are not troubled" and that we are to look up and lift up our heads because our redemption draws near.

As the world trembles in fear we as the Lord's Bride can be at peace and know that He sees our needs and will care for us. Our faith is not in our gov-ernments, but in the Lord Jesus Christ. We do not belong to the kingdom of this world but to the Kingdom of God.

As we continue with the awesome chal-lenge to feed, evangelize and provide medical/dental care to almost 11,000 children and their families along with our call to minister to our churches pastors, their wives and the missionaries we encourage you as He has encouraged us with His word not to worry about what you will eat, drink or wear, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His right-eousness and all these things shall be added to you."

Passing Through Our Antigua Office

Passing through the office, I was amazed seeing those hundreds of plastic cards Marlandy (right) was working on. To come across Lorena and Nancy (below) in that room, too, once again, it was a joy to see them working as a team and helping each other.

Marlandy just finished to type and review each single name and program number of our around 10.000 registered children and then started cutting them out. They will be ready to be given out for 2012 at the same days as the Christmas gifts.

This morning, at the Antigua Clinic, we had a special time of fun and encouragement with some of the children before they saw our Dra. Patty (Doctor Patty).

Everybody also got a bracelet which explains Gods love through Jesus' death and resurrection.

Scottish and IL Youth on Challenge Course

This clip is the youth group from Scotland and IL doing the Balance challenge. You have seen the Havelock group pass this challenge without a problem. Now you can see the UK and Il group along with a group of our teachers so you can see just how difficult it really is and what can happen. If one falls in, all the other members are required to rescue the fallen team member.

In our daily lives as Christians we face many challenges.
In Guatemala we have constructed a Challenge Course that has ten elements. Our young disciples face these challenges as they pass through each one as a team. Each has a biblical principal that applies to that element. We wach as leadership emerges, as they encourage one another and as they strategize and plan as a team how to overcome each challenge. The Youth group from Liberty Church Havelock, NC had an opportunity to face their challenges on the course.

For the last 10 days, LWI has been greatly blessed to have Janice Airey from Maryland with us who painted these beautiful pictures on two walls of the outside wills at the church in "El Chilcal".

The flower wall is right on the street and we cannot count the number of townspeople who already have stopped on their way to express how thankful they are and what a blessing it is.

Janice then did the inside painting on the wall of the Bible classroom. Over months, she had prepared the stencils, since she had received the message of that story of that little boy TO GIVE IN FAITH WHATEVER YOU HAVE GOT AND THEN TO WATCH WHAT GOD WILL DO WITH IT...!

Her prayer is that this will be a big encouragement to everybody!

Guatemala Youth Worship Team Competes

Several weeks ago, the Youth Church worship team participated in a competition....

The organizing church had chosen to celebrate by this way its 1st anniversary. Our group was supported by many other enthusiastic members of the LWI-church who had also brought banners and flags. What a joy and challenge has this competition been.

But beside the experience and coming to know other young music groups that love the Lord, they even finished second! Congratulations! And what did they do? They praised, danced and worshiped. Keep praising your God!

Meet Don Tono

Meet Don Tonito. Don Tono recently turned 90 years old, and has faithfully tended to our Antigua compound since before it was the Antigua compound. If you've had the opportunity to visit us in Guatemala then you've no doubt seen the result of the care he gives to his "second home". Each morning he rides his bike to work, where he can be seen cutting the grass by machete and push mower as he refuses to use a motorized lawnmower. Its easy to take him at his word when he says he "knows each plant and every tree".

Dita's Quilt

Dita is 40 years old. Her husband died last year in October of 2010 at the age of 47. He had not been ill and died suddenly one morning of a heart attack. He had worked for over 30 years at the Water plant. They have two boys ages 17 and 12. The oldest boy is Erdion and will finish high school this year. He wants to go to college and study political science and hopes to be a judge some day. Dita has worked for Living Water International for 8 years. She worked first as the cleaning lady for the offices and dorms here in the ministry building. Now she works as one of the cooks in our kitchen which prepares the meals for the children in the feeding programs. She has always been a very quiet and shy person and a very hard worker willing to do whatever job she is asked to do.

She was really touched when she heard about the ladies making quilts for the widows and all the love and prayers that went into making something for someone they did not know. I (Pat) told her it was a big hug from the ladies in America and she became very tearful. I let her pick the quilt she liked because she works here in the Ministry building. She asked that I thank the lady who made her quilt and she prayed a special blessing for her and her family.

Albanian Widow Receives Quilts from Pensacola, FL

Linda Kimble from Charity Chapel in Pensacola got a few ladies together and began to make quilts for the widows in Egypt. Word got out and soon they nice size group making quilts and praying over them as they worked. We were able to distribute of the quilts in Egypt, but recent unrest and rioting and the killing of Christians have it impossible for Ron and Pat to take more quilts into Egypt.

Linda agreed that we could use the remaining quilts to give to the widows in Albania and Guatemala. Pat brought a suit case of these quilts and gave the first one to the mother of Marjana who has worked for the ministry in Albania since its inception in 1995. She worked as a teacher in the beginning and now serves as our bookkeeper. He mother has been a widow for over eleven years.

38 Salvations in Albania and One Day More to Go

After four days of work during the UK Medical/Dental campaign in Albania there have been thirty-eight salvations and we still have one more day to work. The whole Living Water team has worked alongside the team from the UK and has seen both physical and spiritual fruit. The video link is a short interview that Ilir (Albania Evangelism Coordinator) had with Dr. Mark Hilditch after returning from a long day at the LWI Center in Kotodesh. One of the Evangelism Team, Edlira, holds of the list of those asking Jesus to be their Lord and Savior.

In Albania, all of the food for the feeding of the more than one thousand children in the four villages (Homezh, Rodokal, Katjel and Kotodesh) that LWI serves is cooked in the central kitchen located in Pogradec. The food is then placed in insulated containers to keep it hot and transported to the villages. The cooks are Mira, Vita, Dita and Nafia. They start early so the team can leave after devotions in the morning. They then do preparation for the next day’s meals: preparing the meat, peeling the potatoes, and etc. Every child who comes is fed regardless of their religion, ethnic background or even if they have no sponsor. In Guatemala we are feeding over 9,200 children. In Guatemala and Albania LWI is feeding over 3,600 children who have no sponsor.

"How Much?"

As Dr. Mark Hilditch from Scotland started to examine an 86 year old Grandmother, she asked "How much?" He answered her, "No charge."

That is the same question that we sometimes ask about Salvation, "How Much does it cost?" No charge Jesus answers it is free, I have already paid the bill. Salvation was costly for Jesus, free for us.

Magda Giron Back in Albania

After two years of working to get her Visa, Magda Giron is finally back in Albania. Magda has worked with Living Water for over 20 years and is from Guatemala. She spent six years with us in Albania and is very fluent in the Albanian Language.

She is a first class evangelist and teacher and will be living in Kotodesh in a small apartment at our feeding center there. She is so happy to be back and living in the middle of the community there. We expect to see much fruit from Magda and she is need of and deserving of your financial support
