From those specs, we can conclude that this is intended as a mid-range device, and not a rival to the G3.</P><P>Prior leaks have said that the G Vista would be a <A title="Verizon’s LG Vista could be G Pro 2 Lite" href="http://androidandme.com/2014/06/news/verizons-lg-vista-could-be-g-pro-2-lite/" target="_blank">toned-down version</A> of the G Pro 2, intended as a mid-range LG device on Verizon. The specs certainly scream that, with only a 720p resolution. Its latest effort is the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+, an upgrade of last year’s Yoga Tablet 10 HD.</P><P>Over the past couple weeks, we’ve been using the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ and rounding up our thoughts on it. Per our usual review style, we’ve given you several reviews about specific aspects of the device, and now it’s time to sum it all up in a single review.</P><P>Read on for our full review of the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+.</P><P>The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ is marketed as a mid-range device, and its hardware that reflects that. The Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ features a 10.1-inch 1920×1080 IPS display, 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage plus microSD card slot, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera, 9000mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and stereo speakers.</P><P>Overall, the hardware is average. The tablet features an interesting design with a cylindrical battery and kickstand. The combo sounds like an odd concept, but the ergonomics are well thought out. When holding the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ in portrait orientation, the center of gravity sits in your palm to allow for more comfort and less strain on your delicate finger muscles.</P><P>With the kickstand out, you can either set the tablet in a slightly tilted mode for typing or stand it up for optimal viewing. I found myself frequently making use of the viewing position because it’s perfect for watching videos. Not having to hold the device increased my happiness by allowing my hands to be free and able to perform other tasks (like writing this review) while still sating my Netflix addiction.</P><P>The build quality is good for a mid-range tablet. Lenovo trimmed the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ with an aluminum border and a swath of cheaper, lighter plastic to cover the majority of the back. The combo works well and feels pretty solid, though the plastic has a bit of flex. Overall, props to Lenovo for thinking through the ergonomics of a tablet and making a device that’s exceptionally functional.</P><P><A href="http://androidandme.com/2014/06/reviews/lenovo-yoga-tablet-10-hd-design-and-hardware-flawed-potential/" target="_blank">Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ design and hardware: flawed potential</A></P><P>With Lenovo hyping the display as a major upgrade to the original Yoga Tablet 10 HD, we were hoping for more than we received. While the boost to 1080p is nice, the display still isn’t great. Edges appear jaggy, perhaps moreso than other displays of the same resolution. Colors are a bit off as well, with things just not appearing to pop. Text, in particular, was hard to read.</P><P>For occasional video watching, the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+’s display works, but we were left unimpressed with it. I’m not altogether feeling like going into the deets again, but rest assured, Lenovo’s added software is a mess. Next time, Lenovo should just stick to stock Android and simply work to keep the device up to date. And launching with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean? Unfortunately, the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+’s processor just couldn’t keep up with its large 1080p screen, and most everything was choppy and sluggish. Streaming content hummed along, but anything requiring use of the touchscreen and scrolling was on the slow side. Animations also stuttered a lot, making the device much less pleasurable to use. If you really need to use it, it should get the job done, but don’t expect great results. The rear camera isn’t bad for a tablet, as we’ve seen much worse. Its battery is immense at 9000mAh, and it shows in battery life. With light usage and max brightness, the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ made it through a full five days. However, both Nintendo and Nguyen claim this was not the case. Some also wondered if the developer was also tired of facing the personal criticism over the popularity of such a simple game that some aimed his way. There is no guarantee that the other app will have the ability to access that file, and making the file MODE_WORLD_READABLE is not great from a security standpoint.</P><P>Instead, you will increasingly need to handle the receipt of content:// Uri values.</P><P>Ideally, nowadays, those Uri values are “openable”. You can perform the following operations on such Uri values:</P><P>Open them via openInputStream() (and occasionally openOutputstream()) on ContentResolver</P><P>Find their MIME type via getType() on ContentResolver</P><P>Find out their DISPLAY_NAME and SIZE — the OpenableColumns — via a query() on the Uri (again, using a ContentResolver, or in theory a CursorLoader)</P><P>FileProvider from the Android Support library serves openable Uri values from files on internal and external storage. <A href="https://github.com/commonsguy/cwac-provider">My StreamProvider</A> serves openable Uri values from more locations, including assets and raw resources. The <A href="http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/providers/document-provider.html#client">Storage Access Framework</A> is designed around openable Uri values. And you can create your own ContentProvider that serves up openable Uri values.</P><P>The legacy convention was that a content:// Uri might not be openable directly. Instead, it pointed to a database row, retrievable via query(), and you would look in the _DATA column for how to access the actual data. Some providers no doubt continue to use this pattern. The rules for what the _DATA column would be were not well documented, but by convention they tended to be a path to a file. The problem is that this runs afoul of Google’s current guidance, as there is no guarantee that other apps can access such a file.</P><P><STRONG>Do not</STRONG> blindly assume that if you get a content:// Uri that it is for the _DATA pattern. If you query() the Uri and do not get a _DATA value back, try using the Uri directly with ContentResolver. Remarkably, even with that volume of posts, the forums are (for the most part) free of spam, thanks to members that report posts and of course our incredible team of moderators.</P><P>Until about 2010, XDA had one type of moderator. During that year, we decided to offer non-HTC forums and expand to Android, and the site’s growth necessitated the formation of  an additional level of moderator to efficiently maintain the site.</P><P>Today, we have two groups of moderators: Forum-Specific Mods and Senior Mods. The former group is split into about eight teams to encourage camaraderie and to allow each team to specialize in a particular category of devices, such as HTC international devices or Samsung USA devices. Senior Mods, on the other hand, are responsible for discussing site policy and resolving conflicts when they arise between forum-specific mods or developers. A subset of the Senior Mods, a group called the Moderator Committee, is responsible for adding and removing Forum-Specific Mods so that we have enough moderation coverage as the site grows. When you apply to be a moderator, it is the Moderator Committee that reviews your application.</P><P>Above we mentioned that we rely not only on our team of moderators, but also on members who report a post. When you report a post on XDA by hitting the little exclamation point that exists on every post, the report is entered into a queue for the respective mod team. Our custom system allows a mod to “claim” a reported post, investigate it, then act on it, all within our reported post system.</P><P>And that’s a look at how the moderation system works on XDA. While the latter may have leaks or rumors spread about pending updates, nothing official is usually published before the actual update is rolled out.</P><P>For “smaller” manufacturers, it is generally more difficult to judge when updates will happen but that doesn’t necessarily mean that their devices are updated slower. Frequency of updates itself also don’t seem to follow many rules: some manufacturers follow the Google line pretty closely, such as Sony, and others are more erratic with their updates. As of the time of publishing, the current version of Android that everyone is still jumping aboard is <A href="http://www.androidpit.com/topic/android-4-4-4-kitkat" target=_top>Android 4.4.4 KitKat</A> which is slowly making its way to non-Nexus devices. There is also a section on the <A href="http://www.htc.com/us/go/htc-software-updates/" target="_blank">HTC website that is dedicated solely for updates</A>, which explains the internal process that HTC goes through in order to push an update to their devices.  Recently, the brand has promised that when an Android update is made available, that it will be rolled out to the <A href="http://www.androidpit.com/device/htc-one" target=_top>HTC One M7</A> and <A href="http://www.androidpit.com/device/htc-one-m8" target=_top>HTC One M8</A> no later than 90 days afterwards. Logically, LG rolls out updates via OTA and also via their own software for the PC. This still rings true despite their sale to Lenovo . The only downside is that Acer only makes the announcement when the update is available and doesn’t generally give a heads-up to users whether an update is pending or planned on being released.</P><P>Were you aware of how your manufacturer updated their smartphones and tablets? According to Android Police</EM>, <A href="http://www.talkandroid.com/tag/google/">Google</A> is working on a solution to restore app data when a user activates a new device.</P><P>The current process is just app restoration without much of any information being carried over by a tidal wave of apps. Users cannot select what is brought over and it winds up being a pretty big mess. Google would implement the new app restoration process within the Play Store by allowing users to specifically select what apps are restored. That way, they only get to bring in what they want. It’s $599 without a contract, or $29.99 per month on EDGE. This is the 32GB version in black or white.</P><P>Another classic Verizon move is the carrier logo on the front of the device. Big Red seems to be the only carrier with enough klout to get this treatment. The other carrier variants only have logos on the back. Verizon be Verizon’ing.
