My Journey as a New Blogger

I started AdSense and Affiliates in July 2006. This was my journey sharing my experiences as I learned how to use marketing tools such as Google AdSense and Affiliates to generate an income.

This poor blog hasn't been updated in months due to me developing other blogs, you can view my other blogs I author on the sidebar. The Blogger Resource blogs are to help other newbies and has become one of my favorite niches. As you can see I have chosen some other topics as well, so stay tuned as you see them grow in popularity.

I thought I had things all figured out for using the Classic Template on Blogger, then they introduce the Beta Blogger and change the HTML template on me.

I then had to start another blog relating to the New Version of Blogger (formally called Beta) for the newbies that were just coming on board. They will need something other than what I had been writing about on the Classic Blogger Resources, this blog is only for anyone still using the Classic Template or anyone that has decided to Revert to Classic Template after the migration to the New Version of Blogger.

I had to learn from scratch all over again the new and improved methods for the New Version of Blogger Resources for anyone using the Layout and Page Elements. I want to relate to the newbie and what they are going through as they build their blog.

I would appreciate the referral to other newbie bloggers that you may personally know. I have dedicated many hours of research and hard work to make it all easier for them. Follow the tips and step-by-step instructions in these two resource blogs and you or your friends will be well on your way to being a great blogger.

Adsense Secrets

Pst! Wanna know some Adsense secrets? The only secret is that there are no secrets per se!

Do a search for Adsense secrets and you will be bombarded by a myriad of ads by trying to sell you the answers to making lots of money with Adsense.

Before you buy anything, my advise to you would be to do some research on a search engine and a bit of common sense. There are literally hundreds of forums where you can pick up valuable information, as well as hundreds of articles that have been written on the subject of Adsense........

Most of the answers are out there for you to find it you will put in a little bit of work. If you buy any of the ebooks available out there, you might find one little nugget of information that you may not have seen anywhere else, but I promise you: most of the time everything is out here on the Internet - all you have to do is search for it. Here are some of the search terms that I personally have used with great results:

What I can tell you from my own experience is this:

1. Ads at the top of the page and on the left of the page perfom better than any other ads. (Take a look at the "heatmap" from the Google link below)

2. Ads without background colour and borders perfom better than ads within borders with background colour.

3. Ads within content pages perform better than any other ads.

4. A search box on every page gives you another chance for earning Adsense income.

5. A blue link at the top of the ad, the ad in black, and the url also in black so that it blends in with the ad copy - also tends to perform well. A black url makes the link stand out and gives you a better chance of someone clicking on it.

Google has brought out some great Adsense optimization tips. You can read it here: Google Adsense optimization tips

Experiment with your settings and see which brings you the best results. Google's reporting has become a lot better in the last month or so, so you should instantly be able to see which ads result in better CTR.

To increase your site traffic, which obviously will increase your Adsense income, the best way to get traffic is to have fresh content at your site. Write your own articles and submit it to article directories like Go Articles etc. To find more article directories, just do a search for "free article directory submissions" on a search engine like Google.

Another way would be to publish articles by other authors that are relevant to your site content. You can find free articles all over the web by once again doing a search for e.g. "free site content".

Do this on a regular basis and watch your traffic (and your income) increase.

I have never been on any web site that explained so much about the meta tags, robots.txt generator, keyword density and popularity. You will appreciate these free SEO tools from Sitesubmit. Your free account takes only minutes to open and will give you tutorials for getting your site ready to submit to search engines. This is where I found several links that were not working because I was tweaking my blog one day and forgot to put my links back in the template. All these things are good to know and I'm sure you'll find some things that need fixing also. I completed the tutorials and they even give you a grade on your website/blog as to how well you did......

OK, so I only got a C grade with a "Certificate of Completion" with the html code for you to place on your site showing off your status. I have lots of things left to improve upon but for a newbie I was pretty happy with that!! :) Bronze isn't good enough for me though, so I'll continue to strive for the "gold" and work on areas that still need improvement. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

The net is full of small tiny web sites and blogs with very little traffic whose owners log onto their Google Adsense accounts every morning hopeful for some sort of miracle.

It really is sad because while there is nothing wrong with dreaming of making big money, one cannot just dream without taking any concrete action or steps to make their dream come true. And logging into your Google Adsense account hopefully every morning (having done nothing new) does not quite qualify to be called concrete action towards making your dream of healthy Adsense revenue come true.....

While miracles still do happen all the time in this world filled with skeptics, the truth is that you would be better off creating your own miracles rather than waiting for them to be instigated by outside forces.

There are a few basic truths about making money with Adsense which you will need to be aware of as a site owner or blogger, if you want to start generating some serious Adsense money. Incidentally, all these factors have to do with speed.

i) The Speed With Which New Pages Are Created At Your Site Will Impact On Your Adsense Earnings In A Big Way
The speed at which new pages are created at your site will have a direct and dramatic impact on your Adsense earnings. The number of indexed pages at your site will have a direct bearing on the amount of traffic you receive through search engines. The higher your traffic, the higher the chances of your Adsense ads being clicked. And of course the more pages you have at your site with Adsense ads displayed, the higher the number of clicks you will end up with.

Just try out this small experiment. If you currently usually make 1 post or so daily, change and start making five to seven posts a day. You should see an immediate difference in your Adsense revenue. Of course most of the impact will come over a longer period of time as your posts get indexed. But you can imagine how powerful it is bound to be if within a few days of doing more posts, you impact your Adsense earnings.

It is important to note here that it has been proven that traffic from search engines is usually the most ideal for Adsense ads and it is the sort that will always get you more clicks.

So the big question here, is how does one small site with no budget to hire teams of writers to rapidly create pages of content, ever hope to make any money from Adsense? We will examine this question in more detail later in this article and see how some smart bloggers and webmasters are solving this problem in a very creative way.

ii) The Speed With Which You Can Create New Blogs Can Make You A Fortune
I am not talking about splogs or spam blogs which annoy everybody (except those who create them) and which Google are ruthlessly clamping down on currently. Anybody can create hundreds of splogs (with nothing on them except keyword phrases and Adsense ads) within a short space of time. But few know what to do to be able to create hundreds of quality blogs quickly with quality useful content and the right keywords to get attention from leading search engines.

One strategy that involves creating new blogs quickly, used very effectively by bloggers, is to create blogs based on news and new developments that are bound to generate increased public interest in the days to come. When you do this, you have a head start on keywords and keyword phrases that you know will be extremely popular in the near future. This can mean hundreds pf thousands of hits from search engines.

But again, how does a small single penniless blogger pull this one off? There is a way that doesn't upset Google and it is being done all the time. More on that later.

iii) The Speed With Which Back Links Pointing At Your Site Are Generated Will Impact On Traffic And Your Adsense Revenue
Back links, we all know, are extremely important. The speed with which they are generated will directly impact on your traffic and ultimately your Adsense earnings.

Lots of back links or one way links pointing at your site, will not only bring lots of traffic, but will also improve your search engine rankings which will bring even more traffic.

Anybody who finds a way of to generate this quickly has the whole world at their feet. Keep reading and you will discover how others are doing it.

Google Ads vs Oxado Ads

Here is an alternative to using Google Ads that you might find very interesting. When I heard about Oxado I signed up and got approval right away. I will be trying the Oxado Ads on another website that doesn't have Google Ads on it as to give them a fair test in profitability......

Reports I have read is they pay more per click and you get paid after you reach 100 Euros. If this sounds interesting to you I have put this link at the top for you to check them out and just maybe you'll want to join Oxado also.

I know some of you are asking, "What is an aStore"? Plain and simple, Google AdSense and Affiliates are just an advertising medium in which you can make money with your blog or website and I'm sure you would like to make some easy money right along with the rest of us. Your blog/website happens to be a great source for providing advertising links for Google AdSense and/or an Affiliate related to your sites contents.

Assuming you already have a website or blog (if not sign up for your "free" blogger account), you are probably already blabbing (or would like to) about something of interest so join in on the money game, it's lots of fun. Google AdSense and your chosen affiliate will be using your site as a means of getting their product or services advertised and for this they will give you a commission for inquiries and sales generated from your site......

To succeed with using Google AdSense and Affiliate marketing you will need to do a little research for yourself, gain as much knowledge as you can on the subject and give it a try. A little reminder for anyone who thinks they are going to become rich overnight is sadly mistaken...........there is actually a bit of work involved, you will need to update your blog or website often with valuable and original content, index and promote your site by submitting it to Search Engines and Directories.

I want to give you as much information as I can for "free" because my success will be based on your success! ***Google AdSense:

Enhance your site.............and your profits with Google's Adsense for content, search and referrals. Start generating revenue from your blog or website by opening your "free" Google AdSense account.

Setting up a Google AdSense account is very simple..........if you don't already have one, complete and submit your application. Check for an email from Google to verify your email address. Once you verify your email address, Google will review your application and follow up with you via email within 2-3 days (usually sooner). If they approve your application, you'll be able to log in to your AdSense account and get started.

Now you are ready to go to the tab called "AdSense Setup". From there select "AdSense for content, search and/or referrals. Make your selection and it will walk you through the steps to generate the code you will need to put in your template, copy and paste it in the area you want.

Your concern might be, you could mess up your blog (don't worry) if you put your code in the wrong place of your template. Just be sure after you copy and paste the code in your template that you PREVIEW it first (very important), this will open a new window for you. If your code is where you want it to be, then close that window and SAVE TEMPLATE CHANGES otherwise CLEAR EDITS and you're back to square one, try again.

If you have exactly what you want, "Save Template Changes".

That part is done but now you'll want to go back into the dashboard and you do that by clicking on the blogger button in the top left hand corner of your blog. Click on template and you'll see AdSense just below.....well click on it. Select ad format that is right for you (mine is 468 x 60 Banner), now Select colors.......I happen to use the Blend template for my color scheme because it matches my postings and doesn't stand out like you're trying to sell something. Take a closer look at my blog and you'll see what I mean.

As a publisher you "can not" label the ads with text other than "sponsored links" or "advertisements". This will give you a very professional look on your sidebar or header.

Here is another little tidbit of info for you:

When a publisher that signs up for Google AdSense through your referral earns their initial $100.00 and is eligible for payout, Google will credit your account with $100.00.

* A Google AdSense referral is counted when a publisher, who has never previously enrolled in Google AdSense, creates an account and earns at least $100.00 within 180 days of sign-up. The referred publisher must be eligible for payment to qualify as a successful referral.

For your own knowledge and reference this information is located here. With this page in front of you, Choose Google AdSense under the Google referrals and continue onto the next page. There is a paragraph at the top and one at the bottom of this page stating the above mentioned information. I found this to be very interesting to learn and thought I would share it with you as a bit of encouragement, helping you to realize the possibilities for making some serious $$$$$$$.

***Affiliates:

There are many Affiliates out there......... just do a Google search for Affiliate Marketing and you will see lots of them to choose from.

I happen to personally like Commission Junction, if you're interested you can go to Commission Junction to sign up for your own "free" account. Scroll down and read about "Publishers" because this is what you will be, then login and they will walk you through the process of joining their team of publishers. They have so many companies for you to choose from and promote, deciding which company/companies to choose will take time so experiment with different ones and identify the companies that will pay you the most for your efforts and dedication. You will make a commission on all sales generated from your site.......

Imagine running an online business where you NEVER have to:

**Develop a Product

**Manufacture or Store inventory

**Take or process an order

**Shipping or Handling

**Customer Support

The merchant does it all and you'll reap the benefits of the sale!

Making money using Google AdSense and Affiliates on my blog has been much easier than I thought, almost unbelievable to actually see money in my Google account during this past month (I was just practicing). :) No, it wasn't much to speak of, just a matter of pennies! :)

Hope you have all enjoyed following along with me on my journey into the world of learning how to use Google AdSense and Affiliates as my tools to make money blogging. As a newbie there has been so much for me to learn about blogging and getting noticed but I have followed others advice on where to place code in the template for AdSense, doing a sitemap, getting indexed and promoting my blog. I'm so happy to say everything is working as it should.......

I know some of you out there thought I wasn't serious and maybe I was just filling space but that was far from the point, I'm serious about "Getting paid to Blog" and seeing my Google account grow over this past month was all the proof I needed!!

Search Engines Submission

Submitting my site to the 3 main search engines was on my agenda today. I aready submitted my site to Google but still needed to submit my site to the other two main search engines.

Follow these simple steps for submitting your site to Yahoo and MSN by doing a Google search for each of the following:.......

Yahoo submit URL
MSN submit URL
Google submit URL (if you haven't already done this one)

I accomplished this by doing a search for each one and that took me to their site, I filled in my URL and site feed (which you will find in your setting area of your dashboard). I'll be checking in to see how long this takes.........updating to report the results were fast!!!

Getting your Site Indexed

I thought everything was all set up with doing my sitemap and then I realized that doesn't get my site indexed with Google.

When I typed in my URL http://adsense-and-affiliates.blogspot.com in the Google search box and it told me "your search did not match any documents", huh?

Have you tried doing a Google search for your site lately? If not, try typing in http://yourname.blogspot.com and see if you are listed in Google's index. You might be surprised like I was......

This is my new obstacle to overcome! I will be checking in on this and hopefully find the answer soon........wish me good luck!!

UPDATED PROGRESS REPORT: I found the answer!!! This was another very simple step to complete...........all I had to do was add my URL to Google! Go Add your URL to add your site to Google's index and share your place on the net for all to see.

Remember there are still more steps to be completed, refer to "Search Engines Submission" and you will be well on your way to promoting your site!

Google Sitemap

A Google sitemap was added to my blogs today, I am feeling very accomplished having tried several times before with no success.

As a new blogger I'm posting my results as I learn and hope this will be of help to my fellow newbies. If you are having trouble with adding the sitemap like I did here is your answer, let's just call it "Chuck to our Rescue" Follow the simple steps he has outlined and you will be up and running with your new sitemap, it was so easy.

If you are wondering why you need a sitemap, it's so the "Googlebot" will crawl your sites pages and index them. Now they will be found easily through a google search and also generate more traffic to your site.

Get Paid to Blog

Getting paid to blog sounds good to me! I'm asking everyone out there if you think we're really using our full potential when blogging or are we missing out on some extra revenue? When I surf the web for ways to "make money with a website/blog" it always results in using Google AdSense and/or Affiliates in your website/blogs.

If you are ready to start generating some revenue with your website/blog you will need to open a Google AdSense Account and fill in the required information then wait for Google to approve your website or blog, it's that simple........

It's a freebie so you have nothing to loose and it will enhance your site and profits just for blogging.

Please leave me your questions/comments and I'll try to explain what I have recently learned, it's all very interesting to say the least!

Just an update to let you know I was successful with adding an affiliate on my stitcherydoo blog and seems to be fairly simple to do....... I have also signed up with Google AdSense and that is also working on both of my blogs. I managed to put the html code in the template without any problems. I think this is going to be fun experimenting with my blogs.

I WANT AND NEED MORE KNOWLEDGE!!!!! I have read some information about using Google AdSense and Affiliates to make $$$$$$$ blogging........sounds good but can I manage to put the html code in the right section of my template, is it worth my time and effort, will it really work for me? These are all questions I have and maybe you do too, so let's research this as a team effort and share the information we find to be successful and teach other people how to have fun blogging while making money all at the same time.

If I could get some feedback from others I sure would appreciate it...........so please leave me a comment. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge with me and my blog readers.
