Review: Be Kind Rewind

To quote the things white people like blog, white people love 70 at least 2 of those things are in Be kind Rewind, Mos Def and Michel Gondry. True to that logic I loved be kind rewind. The film follows two loveable losers Mike (Mos Def) who works in a video store, and Jerry (Black) who owns and operates a Junk yard. After an Attempt to shut down a power plant, Jerry becomes magnitized and erases all of the tapes in the video store where Mike works. After customers complain that they will tell Mikes boss Mr.Fletcher(Danny Glover) they decide to remake the movies. Which inspires the neighborhood and revitalizes the community.

The film was a lot of fun, like most of Gondry's work that has preceded Be Kind, it has any imaginative props and ways to connect plot point a and plot point b, while maintaining a serious atmosphere around the characters. The shots in the movie are amazing from the opening push-in helicopter shot which somehow goes under a bridge (still confused) to the montage of the films that they have "sweded". The acting from Mos Def and Black were excellent, and I commend Gondry for pulling Jack Black away from his usual crazy comedy for a more subdued character. But the supporting cast I think made the film for me from the eccentric neighbors to the owner of the West Coast Video store they all had different quirks that interested me and kept me entertained until the end of the show.

Overall I would Give "Be Kind Rewind" an 8/10

So anyways, I was out with Mara, the Shooler, and the Nites of the round table ( a dumb nick name i just came up with) at the Hex-a-gon bar in South Minneapolis and we saw the group Tuesday's Robot, who just released an Album called Peace Sing-a-long. I am going to listen to the album tonight and write a review of this local sensation. Also the Review/Podcast site will be coming together at the end of next week, so that this blog can stay personal

Well Well Well, look who is back on their own site bloggin again.

Yeah that is right here I am. Picking up the smoldering remains of this blog. Which i hope to redesign very soon as i hate it right now.

Now the 5 of you who read or still occasionally glance at this page must wonder why i am back. Here it is then.

Weekend Recap

Well School is Winding down again for another quarter. This is pretty cool seeing as I have been at A.I. for a whole year now, although it seems much shorter, which is kind of bitter sweet as I have decided to transfer out to California in the Winter of 2006. But all is good, things keep jumping up higher and higher and I can now say I am a bonafide director, with the feature coming up and a few music videos on the way. Hopefully in the next couple of years I can make my way through to the Hollywood level and make a real impact. But either way Indie films or Hollywood I think I will have a great time.

So this weekend I had to be at the hospital which is always a terrible way to spend the weekend, but we all gotta work and thems the breaks. But I did happen to make it out to the bars on Friday and Saturday. Funny story from the bars on Sat is that I was some kind of local celebrity as we ran into tons of people who knew me and were intoxicated so they made a huge deal out of seeing me. Funny stuff.

I am going to enter a music video contest for the group Pretty Girls Make Graves. The particulars of the contest have it that whoever wins the contest gets a grand and a trip out to NY to see the group perform. So if we (me and my team for the feature) then we would have another 1000 to spend on location and actors for this movie which would be nice.

Otherwise it has been a pretty tame weekend for me, I am going to go home probably watch a couple of movies, play some games and sleep seeing as I have class at 8am tomorrow.

Big News: directorial Debut

If you read the headline then I think you get the gist, now I know some of you are asking yourself didn't he direct a short film already. The answer is yes, but I also was the lead in that film so this is a new experience for me to only be in the directors chair and not in the film.

The film is going to be a feature length horror movie (this time it was not my idea to do horror, but hey I won't complain) Which starts in the early 70's and jumps to now. It is going to be ghoul/ghost story with some quality death scenes since that is what the American horror market is in love with now (i.e. saw, saw2, hostel, high tension)

So all in all I am very excited and I am sorry about the long delay between posts, it always seems that I am so busy that I cant get to my computer and just throw up a post. But soon that will change with the acquisition of a new mobile device

Noodles Story

O.k. So here it is the one and only noodles sotry from my perspective... which is the funny one.

It was a day like any other, I had just finished another glorius learning filled day at A.I., I received a call on my cellular telephone device from Nate and Roshan about how they just got the new bluetooth headsets in at their t-mobile store in Coon Rapids. I thought to myself about it "hmmm i would love to have a new headset since my original headset found its way into the washing machine" So i decided right then and there that i would be acquiring the headset at a low-low reduced (fuck the man) style discount. Realizing after ending the call that the beat-machine (blazer) was still in destructacon mode i would require alternate means of transportation to the store.

After some quick thinking i called my mother for a ride to my then homestead, which sadky due to some shifty land-lord antics was their house. You really cant argue with free food and internet though (digression, returning to original story). Fast forward 15-25 minutes depending on how long it took for my mother to arrive. upon arival at the school i noticed my mother was with my aunt Lorie. After some fanagling about how i needed to get out there we were off. Clear sailing to the T-mobile store, when we got to Coon Rapids they noticed a small and local eatery which we will call Noodle's and or company (subsidiary of Mcdonald's corporation)they opted to eat the pasta meals that they sold while i went and made the acquistion of new technologies. after the sales had finished the storm that had been looming overhead struck down, and in the 5 seconds it took for me to walk from t-mobile to noodles i was covered in water. Upon entering noodles i removed my t-shirt and made the absolutely obvious comment "Soooo. its like raining outside" to be funny to my aunt and mother, well aparentely it caught the attention of the female that worked there and were dining there as well. The maturnal one has her own verison of how the situation worked out and i think it ends with someone grabbing her butt. but i dont know you will have to ask her about that.

After the deathly storm had passed ( which was only like 3 minutes) they calmly said that we could leave the noodles... Which is funny because you know in an emergency the person you turn to is the kid that you stiffed the tip on because he is only handing you a cup. as stated early after that attempted leadership they advised that if people were going to leave they should leave now as the storm was coming back towards noodles in a big way (common fact: thunder storms and tornados hate corporate locations, they are jealous of all the nice things that corporations can buy so they destroy them... good for the storm it is kind of a nice cycle , corps destroy nature for personal gain, storms murder greedy people hmmm what a nice system)

So we opted to leave as the sub-burbs are the biggest hell hole in any dimension, ick not culturally diverse, racist, out of touch locations where all of the houses look the same and trampolines are everywhere. no thanks.

Now in the car we are driving through what appears to be a flood on the highway and i am laughing the whole time about hw much fun this is. My mother is freakin out in the back about how we are going to die. Me being the opportunist made comments about it being "gods devine plan" and if we were to die tonight that is his thang and no one should question it. That always gets her goin... but religion is the next post.

Long story short lorie lost her nerve driving and got scared, along with my mom, but we made it back and laughed about the whole thing as it is now an urban legend in some circles. there you have pretty funny huh... maybe not i think it is a little overblown but oh well good times none the less.

Well here we are at the end of my first movie and I am exahusted of the whole process. I think i will be deligating the resposiblities next time to my able-bodied crew. But enough of that, and now on to the show.

Yesterday was the celebration of my grandmother's 80 year past birthing. Which is awesome seeing as she is the only living grand parent i have as the big guy/gal upstairs has demanded them to spice up the party in heaven earlier. All was well and good same old people with the same old stories happening, i dont know what it is but i think that i am starting to dislike family gatherings as they require you to answer the same question to about 30-40 people, and i will list it so that you dont have to guess

"So what have you been up too? what are you doing?" hmmm i guess that was two questions but non the less they are on the same wavelength. Now i will normally say that this is not that bad of a question to be asked. But in the context of seeing people that you havent seen since you were running around with action figures in one hand and a nintendo controller in the other, faking like they even care just bothers me and puts me in this awkward place that i dont like to go.

Aside from the 40+ awkward moments that i had to go through i was told that i do not blog enough for the public that reads my blog... Well in number i guess that youa re correct but if you look at the quality of the entries, you can ponder the insightful meaning that i put in to all of my posts. But I digress so this is the comeback tour number 3 i think. Now back to the family gathering review.

My inter-locking family protcol unit (mom, dad, alexandra, and myself)didnt seem to be there at the same moments... err at least the male portion, with my father being there then making a scene (surprise surprise) and leaving. Then my brother shows up for about ten mintues and leaves due to "ailments" which is funny cause if i were him i would just say i am tired and leave. but oh well. Then there is me who would have been there much earlier if i had not lost track of time cutting together a movie, also i would have to add that i had the greatest of directions that any human being could ever have. "Its on 25th" end of directions.

Overall if i had to assign a star rating to it, i would say it hit the charts at about 6/7 area lower due to the awkwardness. Enjoy the future posts as they will be long like this one, up next on the All Adam All the time network. THE NOODLES STORY.

Production update: Satan's Hand

Well i am on to day 4 of filming my short film and i think that this movie willnot make the 15 minute mark as i have been hitting it a little to fast with takes. So that means that i wil have to rough cut this and pull some reshoots for later. But any ways here is the updates, we have about 45 poercent of the film shot with the majority of the dialog scenes, opening and ending to still be shot. The majot practical effects are done, now we must move on to the effects that are to be done in the post side of thigns. including a pane of glass shattering at someone.

Well that is enough of an update for now, so i will be back tomorrow after shooting/editing to give another run down.

This post is spawned from what one of my professors said today when I told him the whole story of me and my face. He said the people there are lot of unintelligent people in Minneapolis. Well after thinking about yeah there are a ton of dumb people. But when Nachiket said that to me it reminded me of something that happened to me this Friday when I was walking to the train to return to the homestead. I will write it out in conversational format for your reading (dis)pleasure.

Adam is walking down the street in a sunny yet cold day in Downtown Minneapolis. His headphones are on. He is listening to Danger Doom - The mouse and the mask. He stops at the corner and awaits the light to turn green. A young man on a Bicycle rides up to Adam and stops in front of him.

The man looks Adam up and down with a hint of disgust/confusion.

Man: Hey yo, let me ask you a question

Adam pulls his headphones off

Adam: Sure shoot.

Man: Are you gay or straight?

Adam: excuse me?

Man: you like men or women.

Adam: Not that is any of your personal business. But I am heterosexual.

The man looks at Adam confused at the answer

Adam: I like women.

Man: Good then I ain't got any beef with you.

the man attempts to pull away on the bike. Adam grabs the back of the bike and stops the motion.

Adam: You would have a problem with me it I was gay? What the fuck is wrong with you. You should really re-think being alive. Because if all you do is try and pick fights with random strangers about their sexual designation then you are the most idiotic person I have ever had the displeasure of talking to.

Adam lets go of the bike seat and the young man speeds off on the bike. Turning back yelling obscenities (because he couldn't reply with anything intelligent)

So yeah that is what popped into my head today. In close please understand that you, and you alone can stop unintelligence and prejudice.

Well there is still a miner bit of swelling going on in my face but that is ok since i have been a little to active since the surgery. i.e. going out with my moms and shopping for like 5 hours yesterday when i should have been resting but oh well. Any ways here is the picture for today.
