TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) is a single ply roofing membrane which is used on Commercial and Residential buildings. Because the membrane is thin ranging from 45 to 80 Mil’s thick it is light in weight yet durable and remains flexible to accommodate the expansion and contraction of varying climates. More technically speaking TPO is a trade name that refers to polymer polyethylene polypropylene BCPP rubber and a reinforcement filler. This roof system is taking over the construction industry because it remains flexible (like EPDM) yet has heat weldable seams (like PVC) and is usually white which saves significantly on energy costs.

When TPO was new to the roofing industry it underwent the typical developmental challenges (quite similar to PVC membrane’s issues). But the reputation of Versico is head and shoulders above the rest as it has consistently provided a high quality roofing solution. Most TPO manufacturers have figured out a long lasting formula for their TPO’s but Versico continues to lead the way.

In February of 2010 an article was published by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) informing consumers of the likelihood of accelerated aging in certain conditions where the UV rays concentrate on the membrane due to reflective surfaces that are adjacent to the roof surface. Examples of these surfaces would be large mirror windows next to a roof surface or reflective flashing on a wall above the roof. Accelerated deterioration from focused UV Rays is not necessarily unique to TPO but because TPO is becoming so widely used today the article focused on the TPO roofing membrane needing to be upgraded in situations such as these. Once again Versico has led the way in this solution.

Every Versico Membrane is enhanced with Octaguard XT Weathering Package in its sheet. This enhances the product to give more life to the sheet. In fact the Versico TPO membrane can withstand over 60 days at a constant 275 deg F without showing signs of material failure. Most others manufacturers do not withstand this lab test without showing deterioration.

Aside from the material quality there is still one major consideration: Any roofing system is only as good as the who install it! It doesn’t matter how good the material is if the installers are not experienced the quality level of the entire roof system will suffer. Seek out a company who has been installing TPO membrane for at least 5 years.

Why is it that the universal symbol of shelter is some kind of roof? Obviously it is because the first type of protection that anyone looks for is a way to prevent rain or snow from falling on our living and working spaces. Even in very warm climates a roof may be erected to provide shade from the burning sun.

With a solid roof over our heads we feel safe from the effects of storms wind the intrusion of animals or foreign objects. A roof provides us defense from all of these dangers which can damage our possessions ruin food injure cause discomfort or even illness. Those without a roof are considered homeless.

On September 11 2001 the world focused on the terrorist attacks which were perpetrated against the United States with the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York and the severe damage to the home of our national defense system the Pentagon. While most of the attention quickly became focused on New York nevertheless a fifth of the Pentagon was destroyed and even more of the roof was damaged severely.

With the goal of literally restoring the roof over the head of the center for the defense of our nation the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) rallied around a goal of donating the repairs to the Pentagon roof. Led by John and Kimberly Francis Arlington VA residential roofing contractors the NRCA donated all of the materials labor and additional cash to complete the project.

The Pentagon was completed in 1943 in order to provide adequate office space for the Department of Defense during World War II. The building consists of five pentagonal rings connected by hallways at the joints. The inner and outer rings and the hallways have slate roofs set at an angle. The inner rings have a coal tar built up roof (BUR) system. During the attack almost all of the jet fuel carried by the airplane which rammed the building spilled over the roof causing the damaged section and an adjacent one to burn.

Once Francis contacted NRCA soon other Arlington VA roofing repair companies and then companies from across the nation joined in the effort. The push was to repair the Pentagon roof before the first anniversary of the disaster. Some companies were well suited to working on the slate portions while others had experience in working with the BUR roofs. At the Pentagon site in Arlington VA commercial roofing workers and volunteers worked side by side to restore the national treasure that houses the Department of Defense to full functionality.

The effort was nicknamed The Phoenix Project and was coordinated by the James Myers Company. Initial concerns centered on how to proceed when plans had to be made before demolition of the damaged section. Then questions about how to incorporate the volunteers to work side by side with professionals arose. Yet on June 25 2002 the Department of Defense and Congressional representatives thanked the NRCA in an official ceremony. Once again the country’s defense department had a roof over its head.

The roof though one of the most important structures that keeps each New York home as fully functional as possible is often not given much attention to. This becomes a concern for most when watermarks and other signs of leakage are already evident. These problems should be attended to in the shortest notice to avoid considerably decreasing the lifespan of your roof. But as they say prevention is always better than cure so even when these problems have not risen yet it pays to have scheduled evaluation and maintenance. But who do you call to when wanting to have anything to your New York roof done? You can start by browsing through the list of companies and professional contractors offering roofing services.

The roofing services that different companies and individual NYC contractors provide may be categorized into five major classifications. As winter seasons prove to be the harshest time on roofs the best time to stage an inspection are late spring and autumnal fall. Maintenance can be done by patching minor problems that can snowballs into something bigger if left undone. Inspection is even offered by many contractors and companies as a free roofing service with an estimate and details on the condition of the roof and needed repairs.

– Roof repair can range from the installation or replacement of a power vent chimney leak replacing broken or damaged shingles valley leak remove and change rotten wood leaking flat roof vent pipes gutters and others.

– Roof replacement is a must especially to homes within the United States that are located in areas that are prone to severe weather conditions and even calamities. When having your roof replaced it would be best to seek a professional or company that provides roofing services with a written warranty on workmanship or materials. An accurately done replacement can not only improve the longevity and durability of your new roof but increase the overall appeal of your New York home as well.

– New construction roofs entails major considerations such as the life span of the material you plan on using the weather conditions in your area and the design of the material. With the proper guidance of your expert and experienced roofing services provider you will be sure to land with the perfect option on each consideration.

Choosing the right company or contractor to provide you with quality roofing services can be quite a challenge so be careful with parting with your hard-earned money.

You have to be assured that your roof has been constructed by the best of the roofing companies because it is the shield of a structure that you will live or work in. It protects buildings. So you need to get the best contractors to work for roofing. Muskegon is a city in the state of Michigan that has an excellent reputation in building roofs of outstanding quality.

You need to keep many factors in mind while choosing a roofing company. These are:

1. Is the business that the roofing contractor has set up legitimate? You need to look into some details like the tax identity and the permanent official address which can certify that the roofing company you choose is legal.

2. Check out the contractor’s reputation by asking family and friends for references. You can ask for the past records of the contractors to see their previous projects with regard to roofing. Muskegon has many companies that talk about their past projects and their goodwill through presentations. You should always keep in mind that the quality of a contractor’s work defines his reputation.

3. Once you have decided to choose a company do ask for written agreements rather than settling matters over verbal discussions. Get all the required details like: date when the work commences payment options damage compensations and also the date of completion of work.

4. Do confirm that all the employees and workers of the company are well insured. You would not want yourself to pay for the injuries of the company’s employees if they get hurt while making your roof. Muskegon contractors are really very responsible about these issues. Most of the employees and workers of companies in Muskegon are insured by the leading insurance companies.

5. In case you want to be sure about the reputation of the roofers then look for the roofers through the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) who keep track of most reputed roofers in all cities.

The fact that separates the roofers in Muskegon from the other ones is the special service that they provide. Services like ice and snow removal are hardly brought to you by most of the companies. But companies in Muskegon provide these services whenever a need arises.

This should not be the only factor in deciding upon your future roofing contractor as some may claim they value the privacy of their clients and do not wish to bother them. If this is the case ask for business related references. The places that provide the contractor with supplies can reveal the quantity of materials and regularity of supplying the contractor to help determine their stability.
How does the roofing contractor company handle complaints? There are a multitude of issues that can arise during the progress of a roofing replacement. Ask what their process is for handling complaints if they arise. It is also an excellent idea to receive a past client reference who had a complaint that was resolved to the satisfaction of the client.
Terms of payment. What are the terms of payment for the job? What is the down payment and amount due upon completion? While it is certainly reasonable that a substantial payment be made before a contractor begins work on a project it is highly recommended that full payment is not made until after the entire job is completed.
Written contract. All terms of the roofing replacement should be put in a written contract. No part of the contracting job should rely on verbal assurances.
Bonding. There are things that can go wrong with roofing installations that end up costing quite a bit of money to fix. If this happens on your roofing replacement you will feel a whole lot better knowing that your roofing contractor is bonded. This will provide the funds to fix whatever mistakes were made. Find a roofing contractor that is bonded.
Manufacturer Warranty. Quality materials for roofing typically come with a warranty. It is important to verify that there is actually a warranty on the materials being installed. Request a copy of the warranty.
Length of Time in Business How long has the company you are interviewing been in business? A short amount of time in business may reflect instability. If the contractor has been in business less than three years verify how long they have actually been in the industry. A new contractor may have many years experience working on roofs before they form their own business. Seek a business that has been around for three or more years or where the contractor has had many more years performing roofing replacements. This again should not be the only factor everyone has to start sometime. Balance this with referrals and the other points raised in this article.
Appropriate Permits. A roofing contractor should know what permits are required for repairing your roof. They should be aware of how to obtain these permits on your behalf. Ask the contractor whether they will obtain the permits necessary to repair the roof.
Liability. If a worker becomes injured who is responsible for the worker’s compensation? If the contractor’s equipment damages your home who is liable for the repairs? A good contractor will provide certificates of insurance for liability and worker’s compensation before they begin repairing your roof.
Subcontractors. Verify whether the contractor will be using subcontractors. If so it is highly recommended that everything contained within this article for verifying whether the contractor is credible should also be applied to subcontractors. You should receive the names and license numbers of all subcontractors. You should verify whether each subcontractor is also insured so you are not held liable for their accidents.
Pending Legal Actions. It is important to verify whether there are any legal actions against the contractor. This is not only necessary for verifying whether the roofing company is legitimate (credible roofing companies should not need to defend themselves in court) it is also important because a lost lawsuit could cause the contractor to go bankrupt. If you have made a substantial down payment for services immediately before the company goes bankrupt you could lose many thousands of dollars and never have your roofing completed.
Material Disposal. Who is responsible for disposing of the waste generated from the roof being replaced? Will your contractor handle all aspects of this? Is there an additional cost for disposing of this waste?
NRCA Membership. Membership in local or national roofing associations such as the NRCA shows commitment to staying up to date with the very best methods for roof replacement and maintenance. Find a roofing contractor with a high standard of education regarding their trade.

Replacing your roof is a significant investment. It makes good sense to ask serious questions before working with a roofing contractor. Here are a few more tips that you should consider when selecting the best roofing contractor for your upcoming roofing replacement.

Payment. Do not make a full payment for services unless all work is finished.
Inspection. Do not make a full payment without doing a final inspection of all services rendered.
Workers liens. Do not fully pay for the roofing replacement job until worker’s lien releases have been obtained.
Oral Agreements. No agreement should be made verbally without backing it up in writing. All points that are important to you should be made in writing.
