It has been a long time since I have updated this site. A few soldiers and I have started a couple paintball teams and have been playing in tournaments in the Ft. Riley area. It is the perfect stress reliever. You can find out more on what we are doing at www.doghousepaintball.com. Our next tournament is in Lawrence, Kansas on June 3rd.

I am half way thru my block leave and I am happy to say things are pretty normal again. I am not so uneasy around people and have relaxed a lot. I am also sleeping a lot better. I still feel guilty if I am still in bed at 730 in the morning. It is weird watching the news. I see what is going on in Iraq and cannot help but feel like I should be there doing something. I think being around my family has helped a lot though. I am happy I was able to come home and have them waiting for me. They have kept me so busy I have no choice but to get back to normalcy.

A New Adventure Begins

We all made it back to the states safely. For security reasons I did not even want to hint when we would be coming home. Now we have to integrate ourselves back into civilian and garrison life. It is so strange going from a up tempo environment to a laid back one. It has been and will be a uncomfortable transition but eventually in time all will be as it once was. I will continue to update this site on our new adventures. Also I am building a new site for a paintball team I am with some og our outstanding soldiers. The website is here. It should be up and running soon.

Merry Christmas everyone. The year and our deployment is coming to an end. Internet access is pretty hard to get now so the postings have been scarce. It has been a long and interesting ride here in Iraq. I will be collecting up pictures I have taken as well as others and making some cd's and dvd's when we get back. I will make them available as soon as possible. Everyone is doing well even though we are all missing home during these holidays. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Happy Holidays everyone.

Recently our company sent some soldiers to the promotion board here on FOB Warhorse. Congrats go out to SPC(P) Sylvester, SPC(P) Peterson, SGT(P) Griffith, SGT(P) Gamez and myself for passing.

Also voting is over and the results for the contest will be available on the 10th of this month. Thanks to everyone who voted for us. There were a lot of entries so we are not sure what are chances are. But it was all in good fun so it doesn't really matter anyway. I will post the results as soon as I get them.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday. We had a few of our soldiers go room to room looking for treats. I gave out a package of precooked beef and some mouthwash.
My crew is working on a top secret side project that will be completed in a day or two. We are going to need everyone's help to get the results we are looking for. I will post later today or tomorrow with instructions for who ever would like to participate.

I have been updating my site over at Textamerica more than I have been updating this one. I have several more pictures on my other site and have been picked as Editor's Pick twice in two days.
Most of the week we have had highs in the low 90's and high 80's. It almost feels like home would feel right now. But unfortunately we are not home.
Please keep in your prayers our four soldiers that were injured in an IED blast a few weeks ago. We have two back with us and the other two are recovering. Spirits are up, home is getting closer everyday.

Let it Rain

Two nights ago we had a rain storm. It did not rain for long but it rained hard. It was so strange seeing lightning and hearing thunder. I actually thought it was a dream until I stepped out of my room the next morning and was greeted by a large amount of water rolling of the roof. The days are getting cooler. I do miss not seeing leaves turning colors but there is always next year and I will enjoy it twice as much.

Just a short post today. I would like to personally thank all the people who have contributed there time and money and prayers for the victims and family members involved in the 9-11 tragedy. I'M BACK

I am back. The pentagon put out a brochure on what you can and cannot do on Blogs and since I have not violated any rules I will continue to update this site. Our company has moved yet again. We are staying in some luxury tents at FOB Warhorse. Ok, they are not really that great. They are a step down from where we were staying but at least we will only have to move one more time. Not sure when we will get our last permanent quarters before we head home but hopefully it will be soon.

Congrats to newly promoted SPC Katsalidas. Also Happy Birthday to SPC Cornett, he will turn 21 on the 18th of this month. I am sure he will enjoy a near beer with the rest of us since he cannot enjoy the real thing. There will be a comedy show here on the 18th also. It will be a nice little break from reality.

Well after yesterdays posting promising to update the site more I have been told I can no longer update this site. This I am sure is a battalion or Army wide policy as I have never included any information that would jeopardize any soldiers on my site. But I am still taking this personally. It is like being told you cannot read books or send e-mails. I will set up a new and edited blog site this week with no mention of the four letter word, ARMY. As soon as I am cleared I will continue to update this site. Please leave comments and check back for a link to my new site.

FOB Gabe

We have moved to FOB Gabe where we will stay until our living quarters are complete in Warhorse. We have small buildings we are living in with six men per room. The A/C units do not work but the food here is a lot better than at Normandy. I am going to try to update at least twice a week and possibly upload more pictures. The problem I run into most of the time is bandwidth. If you are not in the MWR at the right time the internet drags and makes a lot of things I would like to do almost impossible.
This site has had over 5000 hits now which is pretty good since I have not been updating it as much as I had wanted too. So please keep checking back and commenting when ever you feel like it.

Congratulations to our two new Specialist promotables, SPC (P) Anderson and SPC (P) Graham.

Also B 2/34 will be moving to another FOB soon. I will not give out any details on this move but once the move is complete I will fill everyone in. A lot of us are going to miss this place. It has trees, animals and a personality of it's own. Where we are going has none of these things. Just sun and sand.

We are still doing our Halo 2 multiplayer games at night. We have at times 16 people battling it out. It is definitely a good stress reliever, unless of course you are the ones constantly losing.

I know I am a little late wishing everyone a happy 4th better late then never right? I spent my 4th with Katsalidas in a guard tower for 8 hours watching a small firework show across the FOB. It really was a lonely feeling. I know there are people out there that take this holiday for granted. I think for most people it is about grilling out with friends and shooting off fireworks. I wonder how many people actually took the time to think about the soldiers past and present who have made the ultimate sacrifice to make sure we have our freedom. It is funny how in order to keep our freedom our soldiers have to give some up.

On that note I am still working on our game room. I would like to thank Kat's family for there donation. We have seven rooms hooked up to the network and the donation has allowed me to order some parts to fix two xbox's for the game room. To help out our cause I will be auctioning off the game "Full Spectrum Warrior" fox XBOX along with used patched from the 1ID, 3ID and I am trying to get a patch from our special forces team on the FOB. This will all be included in one auction. The game will be signed by some of our soldiers over here and the patches will be ones that we have worn by us. The auction will be up very soon so check back for the link. I will also be collecting and updating pictures on my other site within two days.

Hot in here

I am finally getting readjusted from R&R. Things are going well here at FOB Normandy. But it is HOT! When I got back we started our guard cycle which consists of a 8-9 guard shift wearing full gear. The average temperature that work was 114 degrees with several days reaching 117. Add about 20 more degrees to that when wearing your body armor and you become a walking sauna. I have moved to Headquarters Platoon where I am now the gunner for the XO's tank. I have also moved in a new room which I will be converting into a video game center for our soldiers. I have already started running wires to different locations to allow many of our soldiers to play head to head games against each other. I will be making a new website soon to try to get some xbox's and televisions donated for this cause. SPC Rice

As you may have noticed I have not updated this site in over a month. On April 26th we lost a very good friend and soldier. SPC Rice was killed in a vehicle accident on the way back to our FOB. It took some time to get over this tradgedy but I am ready to move on. I will never forget the sacrifice Rice made for his country. We will all miss him. Rest In Peace brother, I know you are in a better place now. Feel free to use the comment section to write about Rice if you knew him.

I just have to get to the MWR and get a computer that accepts thumbdrives. We have made it back to our FOB safely and the MWR is up and running. Also I would like to say high to Kat's mom. He told me yesterday she has found the site. Kat is doing well eventhough I have to keep him in line. Pushups never hurt anyone though right? Quick update our MWR is down so I have not been able to update the web. I am currently at another FOB using their MWR. I am working on a seperate web page that will contain the many pictures I have taken. Hopefully when I get to Normandy it will be up and running.
