Coco has some news for everyone...

Coco is now a big sister! We have a new addition to our family-and we are SO excited about it! Everyone, meet Henry.

Yeah...she was a bit hesitant about not being an only child anymore...

We've been actively searching for the past year for a second pup. We hadn't had any luck, until about a week ago when Henry caught my eye on Petfinder. We'd been looking at only girls, but there was just something about this little guy. Maybe it was his sweet face. Maybe it was his funny name. Maybe it was the adorable video they posted of him. Okay, okay...here it is

See? Don't you want him now too? I hesitated because we'd only been looking at girls. A couple days later we took Coco to the vet. I mentioned to our vet that we were searching for a second dog, and did she have any advice for us? "Coco will be fine with any breed. But please, get a boy." A boy? But, Coco is so girly! She reminded us that in the dog world, females, especially once they are no longer pups, have a dominance issue. I don't know how this slipped my mind-I know first hand that male and female pups get along better. Henry immediately popped up in my head again. Over the next few days, I couldn't stop thinking about Henry, and Darren thought he was adorable. On Wednesday night, I finally just couldn't sleep anymore. We had to have him. The next morning, we filled out the application, and got a great response from them right away. We were scheduled to meet Henry on Friday night. We were so excited to meet him! We just had a feeling from the moment we looked at him, and it wouldn't go away.

We had a great meeting Friday night, and on Saturday morning we started our trial adoption process. This is a 3-4 day trial to make sure he'd work out in our home, since we have another dog. We knew the moment he met him that he was ours, but this is standard policy. Since Henry has been here, he has progressed SO much. You see, Henry was picked up by the county as a stray. They are estimating that he is 3-4 years old. He is a chihuahua and possible beagle mix...we're really not sure...except about the chihuahua part. He has a very puppy like face. He is now almost 8lbs. He has the tiniest waist I've ever seen. When they found him he was malnourished-you could see all his ribs-and he had heartworms. He had a terrible dental situation. His outlook was not good. Lucky for us, Family Addition Dog Rescue picked up Henry from the shelter, and started fostering him and treating him immediately. During his heartworm treatment, he came down with a serious illness that can prove fatal within 24 hours. They took him to the emergency vet and he pulled through. They've been working on him since about September. Henry is now heartworm free, neutered, had a few dental extractions and a cleaning, and the terrible sickness went away within a few days. Henry is very skittish. He loves dogs, but he is very unsure of people, especially men. If you put your hand up, you will scare him. We are thinking that maybe a man harmed him in his past. This really makes me sad. Don't you worry, Henry will never be harmed again.

We spoke with the foster mom today and we are all cleared to adopt Henry! We still have to sign the paperwork this week and pay his adoption fee, but once the papers are signed, he is all ours! We've been loving every minute of being a two dog family, and we look forward to our future with our new little boy. He will be treated (spoiled) just as much as Miss Coco.

One Year.

It's been one year since the best day of our lives. April 21, 2012.

So, if I could sum up our first year in a few words?

Joy. Frustration. Growing Pains. Excitement. Change. Moves. Love. Dates. Love. Love. Love.

Aside from the normal ups and downs I believe all couples experience, our first year was pretty darn good!

We decided on a low key celebration. Darren made all the plans. As a planner, usually I'd want to be the one in charge...but I loved the thoughtfulness of his idea so much-I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Anniversary day started with church and Sunday School. It was a Sunday after all. Then we went to the grocery store and picked items out for lunch. We came home, packed our lunch, packed up Coco, and headed to the park by the lake for a picnic. We had a great time on a blanket right by the water with our lunch, our love, and of course, Coco. We enjoyed a few hours there in that spot, then decided to walk around. We checked out the doc and the trail. Coco was of course thrilled to come along!

For dinner we got dolled up and went to a spot that Darren picked out-Copper. It's a lovely Indian cuisine place in Charlotte. It was very romantic, and the food was so delicious! Especially dessert. We got a sampler that they offered (me a sampler? Surprise right?) with a chocolate molten cake and then two little Indian desserts...they were SO good. I think about those desserts every day to this day. YUM. Time to go back!

We really had a great day. We've been looking into finally planning a getaway. We haven't found the perfect time and place yet, but we are still looking. We finally got our passports, so that is a start!

I am looking forward to the next thousand or so years with this guy. I love him.

Happy 5th Birthday to my sweet little princess, Coco Mai! I can't believe 5 years have passed. I feel like I just picked her up to bring her home a few months ago-time really does fly when you're having fun! This little girl is the love of our lives, she brightens our day every day. She makes us laugh, and comforts us when we are sad. She's the best! We are so blessed to have her in our lives.

Huntersville, NC. Our new town! When looking this photo I found an article. Huntersville was recently listed as one of Forbes best places to move. In 1990 the population was 3,000 and now it is at 50,000 today. 10 miles north of the city of Charlotte, everything is new and clean-country and city-the best of both worlds!

Karma..

My friends, let me introduce you to my daily dose of karma. I do something annoying, and in turn, something annoying happens to me.

Exhibit A: Coco is relaxing-snoozing away, and I convince Darren to wake her by getting her monkey to hug her. Coco is not amused.

*Please excuse the photography...I'm not a photographer, and I am using my iPhone in a not well lit area.

Exhibit B: I am playing on my computer. I forget that a full glass is behind my laptop. I move the laptop back, and the full glass spills all over our new, clean carpet in our brand new place. JEN FAIL! I was certain Coco would ruin the carpet before we ever would. I never spill anything. But as luck would have it, Coco is once again laughing at us because I'm the one that screwed up. Notice the monkey smiling in the background. Coco was sitting beside it but I guess she was disgusted with me and walked away once I snapped the photo. Woops!

Lesson? Don't mess with Her Majesty.

Moving...it's my specialty

Anyone that knows me well could tell you that since I left home for college...I've moved-A LOT! I stopped counting after 11 times a few years ago, but I am certain it is probably close to 20. It wouldn't surprise me. Most people probably find this strange about me. While I know it's not normal-I am totally okay with it. My grandmother moved every few years throughout her entire adult life. Like me, she liked change. She didn't like for things to become stagnant. I like to joke with my mom that just like my Nannie..."I'm a rolling stone..you can't tie me down!" Usually I keep my moves fairly close to home-or close to my parents. I always kept it within an hour or so driving distance. That all changed recently!

A couple of years ago when Darren and I were still pretty new in our relationship, we went to visit my best friend Mel in Huntersville/Charlotte, NC. I'd been to Charlotte countless times to visit, so I knew I loved the area. By the time our weekend visit was over, Darren was hooked as well. I remember the moment in the car on the way home when he said, "I could see us living here. We need to move here!" Fast forward 2 1/2 years, different jobs, and getting married. In September of 2012 we decided, it's time to just do it. We started getting all of our ducks in a row and by December we were visiting the area to pick out exactly where we wanted to live. We decided on Huntersville, just north of Charlotte. We immediately fell in love with the area near our home, so much to do and many things within walking distance. Earlier this month we finally did it, we moved out of state!

It's been 3 weeks and we are slowly getting the place together. Because of my multiple moves, I tend to purge my things each time we move, so we have less and less "stuff" each time. We pretty much had to start from scratch on the decorating front. We've already had 3 trips to Ikea...ok poor Darren has had 4 trips, and several trips to Homegoods and Target. That along with a lot of online shopping, canvas ordering, and ordering prints of wedding pics, we are hoping for it to soon come together. If I feel really productive, I may even post some pics!

The most exciting part of the house to me so far has been decorating the office/guest room. I am lucky enough right now to work from home, and since I spend a lot of time in my office, I want it to be Jen-friendly. Meaning lots of wedding photos and decor to match-in pink, white, and gray. It is a work in progress! Can't wait to see how everything looks here in a month or so.

We are really loving the area so far. I have a feeling once spring and summer comes along, we'll really be loving it. There is so much more to do down here, and our favorite thing about the area...it is SOOOOOO dog friendly. Dog parks, malls that are dog friendly, even bars and coffee shops that are dog friendly. Coco is loving it. Since she is our child, this was a priority for us. We love driving and walking around and seeing smiling faces walking their dogs. There are a lot of dog freaks here. We fit right in! ;)

Notice the drive time...6 hours, 3 mins...359 miles. Whew! Needless to say my friends and family were a little bummed about this. We plan on coming home to visit as much as possible though, and hopefully they'll come to visit soon too!

I came across this post recently that I started back in JULY of 2012...woops! Looks like I've been a busy girl ;) I'll do my best to start putting up more posts, just in case anyone reads these things...

When I first turned 30 back in July, I didn't feel any different. I have to say that 6 months later...I DO feel 30 now. Maybe it's all the changes in my life since July, or maybe some of that middle aged wisdom kicked in. But I feel different.

My brother is all grown up!

For the past year, my brothers David and Dylan have been living in Blairsville, Pennsylvania and going to school at Wyotech. I'll say its to learn about fixing cars because I know nothing about cars, but I know they learned more than that. This past weekend was their graduation. David decided to walk and I am so glad he did! We made the trip up there-it is COLD in PA in case anyone was wondering....I wore jeans and long sleeved shirts and sweatshirts the entire time aside from the graduation ceremony. Blairsville is a TINY town in PA in the mountains. They have a Walmart...that's about it. I am happy to say that I actually got to see the boys almost every weekend. They came home quite a bit since there is not much to do up there. After doing the 5+ hour drive, I'm not sure how they did it!

I am SOOOOO proud of them and all they've accomplished this year! Little David is all grown up and I guess eventually I need to stop calling him Lil' David because he's clearly grown up. I can't believe the baby I used to carry around the house and pretend he was mine is now a college graduate.

My 30th Birthday Celebration

I'm just going to be honest, this birthday is the one I've been dreading for the past five years or so. Thirty. No longer in my twenties-no longer a "young adult." It really began to hit me once my baby sister Samantha turned 15 in April. I did the math back when she was born (I was 15 at the time) and quickly realized that soon after she turned 15, I'd be 30.

My birthday is the Fourth of July. The day came and went and I have to say-thirty is not so bad. Actually, this 30th year of my life has been the best yet-My family is doing well and growing up-and I got to marry the love of my life this year! I finally know who I am and what is important to me. I've grown, I've matured, and I've learned a LOT about life. I couldn't say the same about myself 10 years ago, or probably even five years ago.

The actual day of my birthday I spent most of the day in the pool in my favorite float, just hanging out. We had no real plans (that I knew of). Once we got home Darren said let's get dressed, I'm taking you to dinner. Once we got to downtown Fredericksburg, I finally figured out where we were going-one of my favorite places to eat that I haven't been to in years-Old Towne Steak and Seafood! Once we were seated, Mom and Mike showed up! I had no idea they were coming, so it was a nice surprise! We had a DELICIOUS dinner and a great time.

The following weekend, Mel had a little get together for me at Casa Grande with some of my closest friends. In true Mel style she brought confetti, 30 Sucks! suckers, balloons, and straws with mustaches, because let's face it-we are classy like that. It was so nice to get together with my friends again!

Pop's Birthday Celebration

In May we also celebrated my late Pop's birthday. Pop passed last year and is greatly missed. The family got together and had ice cream and did a balloon release. We each wrote a special message to him on a balloon and then released them together. Darren's was so sweet!!! The little ones really loved this.

Nannie's 90th Birthday!

Back in May my dad's side of the family got together to celebrate our Nannie's 90th birthday! Nannie is actually my great grandmother-Elaine's mom. She watched me and my cousins for years growing up. This woman has survived so much and seen so much in her ninety years, she is truly amazing. This was also a great opportunity for Darren to meet lots of my extended family!

Our favorite photographer was not able to capture as many photos of just the two of us as she'd originally planned...as my massive amount of hair put us behind schedule. :) My crazy amount of hair was driving me nuts so much that I had to cut it before we even had a chance to shoot these post wedding day pics, taken two weeks later. Couch-to-5k

A couple of weeks ago I started the Couch-to-5k program. I couldn't take it anymore, I was starting to feel unhealthy, ran across the program on Pinterest and figured I'd give it a shot.

I bought the app for the program on my iPhone for only $2.99, and I believe it was money well spent. It really keeps me on track with what I'm doing, and you can even have a playlist!

Let me preface this with some info about me for those that are not aware: I. Don't. Run. Ever.

These say it best...

So the first part of the workout starts with a

brisk walk, then you move on to a jog.

Then you alternate jogging and walking.

This gets your heart rate up.

Each week the jogging time goes up. Starting

with 60 second intervals all the way up to a

full 30 minutes of jogging. When I started, I

could barely jog for 60 seconds at a time.

I'm now up to 3 minutes in week 3!

You have no idea how excited I get to see

Ahhh Weddings...

It's almost over! Just three short days until I become Mrs. Daniels! Woohoo!

For a gal that usually loves to plan parties, this was no picnic and I whined and moaned every step of the way. Why? Because we wanted to elope. However due to expectations of others and the fact that we are complete pushovers...we decided to go through with a shindig. In true Jen fashion to make myself feel better about it all I grin and bear it with sarcasm...man I love someecards...Here are my wedding favorites, they were too fitting not to share!

Still waiting on some...good thing I didn't hold my breath, yeah that stamp, yeah that was not free. If you'd like to complain about the gas to get there I'll complain about the stamp that you wasted. Whatev!

I have to say now that it is all coming together I am excited to see all of my favorite people together in one room. What I am most excited about...marrying the man of my dreams!

The Bridal Shower!

Grammy, Kristen, Aunt Ann, and Mom threw me a lovely shower in King George last weekend. They thought about every detail, it was so beautiful and sweet! The food was delicious, the cake even had one of our engagement photos on it! They worked so hard to make everything perfect, and it truly was! I am so grateful to have such wonderful friends and family. I had some friends that traveled nearly two hours to be there. My people are the best! Here are some photos from that special day.
