Happy Birthday To Our Twins!

We recently celebrated our twin daughter's birthday. The girls and I went to the city to shop for the day. We had a fun day together. This is the third year to go shopping for their birthday. We have always had great theme parties for them but as they get older the ideas are slim. Its hard to think of fun theme parties when you are teenagers, especially when you are totally opposite in personality. Elli would have a tea party and Emma would want to ride horses. We have promised them that next year we will have a special party, I just hope we agree on the theme.

We have also made two cakes for the last two years.

This year Elli wanted red velvet and Emma chocolate of course.

Next year one cake, one theme and a lot of FUN!

Happy Birthday to My Hubby!

We went fishing for the day. The weather was warm and wonderful.

The girls and I decided to take a walk and not bother the fishermen.

Adventure of Selling Our House

For the last six years we have enjoyed living in our 100+ year old house. We have some great memories from that address. Michael and I have always liked the character of older houses and for the most part have enjoyed remodeling. But as you know we have relocated to a working cattle farm and now are experiencing a new adventure of horses, chickens and wide open spaces. Here are some pictures of our house that is now on the market to sell.

Adventures of Scouting

When Dustin was younger I had to give him an outside recess every ten minutes of school work he did. He loves to be outside. He thrives on playing, exploring and working outdoors. It only seemed natural to enroll in scouts again this past summer. He was a cub scout a few years back and wasn't that into it. This time around he requested to join and took initiative to pay for camp and sew all badges on himself. He loves to go camping and going to meetings. This month we witnessed him crossing over to boy scouts at the Blue and Gold Banquet. It was a tear jerker for Michael and I. We are so proud of this little man.

Dustin placed 3rd in the Pine wood Derby (his last year to participate).

Scouting is a great adventure for boys. We hope to see him all the way to his Eagle Scout. His great uncle was an Eagle Scout and shared some stories with him. Dustin loved seeing his uncle's elaborate Indian head dress he made. Doesn't he look cute? He will have big ~~shoes~~ head dress to fill. We just found out that his great uncle on Michael's side was also Eagle Scout. Wow, that is very impressive. It seams to have skipped a generation.

Adventure of a Dream Come True

Once there was a little girl who dreamed of having a horse. She talked about horses. She read about horses. She even had dreams about horses. Then a opportunity came along for her to ride a pony at a local festival. She was so excited and talked even more about horses. That was seven years ago.

Last year Emma went to horse camp (which she saved for). She loved it and couldn't wait to go back. There was a second camp, followed by opportunities to work for the owner. She has learned so much about horses and about working for someone else besides her dad. She started searching Craigslist and the newspaper for a horse. Mind you we lived in town, in a historical district and couldn't have a horse. But that didn't stop her from dreaming. She had a plan; she would board it and work to pay for the feed, shoes, vet, and boarding. I told her to pray about it. Anytime this talkative daughter of mine gets on a tangent and can't talk or think of anything else, I tell her to pray about it. It works; she calms down and her prays get answered.

In October of last year we passed a farm for rent (when we weren't looking to move). The next day the girls and I went by to check it out. It was perfect with land to expand for animals, garden and of course a greenhouse. We moved in November and Emma found a horse in a couple of weeks. After her and her grandpa looked at several horses, she decided to revisit the one she found on Craigslist but hadn't seen yet. We went to meet "Bida"(5yr. old mare) and fell in love. We went to lunch and talked about how she would come up with the money to buy her first horse. She had been saving and would receive Christmas money but still needed more. Emma listed her ipod on ebay and we said if it sells for the remaining amount needed for the horse then it was meant to be. It sold for the $130.00 which is the exact amount she needed for "Bida". Her dream had came true. Her pray was answered the way she had hoped.

Yes, she stood on her the first time they met. The owner had shown a picture on Craigslist of herself standing on the horse, and of course Emma asked if she could try.

We borrowed a trailer to go pick her up and was told to think of the horse as a bucket of water in the back of the trailer. Don"t spill it! We were very nervous (or I was) to travel with her. But we didn't have any problems and it was a great adventure!!!!!!

Adventures of Homesteading

We moved to the farm house in November with:

2 dogs
3 cats

We now have:

2 dogs
3 cats
2 horses
4 rabbits
16 chickens
3 turkeys

The children have been asking for a goat but I keep telling them "NO". I explained to them that any grass that grows in the pinned area is for the horses. I would like to get some geese and ducks. I am reading "Farm City" by Novella Carpenter. It's a quirky read about an urban farmer living in the ghetto (as she calls it) in Oakland , CA. The book has inspired me to plan a garden that we will eat from all summer and fall, striving to cut our food bill. I am also inspired to raise poultry for us eat. While this concept isn't new, it seems foreign to me and I am bit nervous. Elli is leading the way, as she is totally up for the task. She has purchased all the chickens, food and supplies with her money. Her plan is to sell eggs and rabbits. She is our little homesteader who will motivate us to butcher the ~~pets~~ poultry. I will post pictures soon of all the Rocking C Critters. Michael and Dustin have been building a chicken tractor. This will house the chickens for now until we get their mansion remodeled and the additional space. We wish y'all a homesteading, thought provoking day!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow.......Let It Snow

We didn't get snow in December last year, not a white Christmas like the year before, but this year is a different story. We woke up to another winter wonderland. This is our second big snow this year. Last week we had a blizzard but last night it was just piles of SNOW! We got about 12+ inches of fluffy white snow. It is beautiful but COLD. The sun came out and the kids couldn't stay inside.

We had incredible snow drifts.

"Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" and I will stay my pjs all day long again.

Pearls, Rubber Boots and a Fishing Pole

Our oldest daughter is an adventurer. She likes anything to do with homesteading, crafting, art and the outdoors.

She likes to bake, write stories and fish?.?.

She can even bait her own hook while wearing pearls and rubber boots.

She likes exploring with her brother and hanging out with her dad.

Most importantly she loves Jesus and has a dream to be a missionary.

We celebrated the girl's 14th birthday yesterday. The girls and I went shopping, while Daddy made these yummy cakes. He also had a delicious dinner waiting for us. Thank you Daddy!

Horseback Riding for Recess

Here are pictures from our walk today. You can also see some of the property we live on. There is a pond,
which is "catch and release". Dustin has already caught a five pound Bass. We didn't have a camera or even our cell phones to capture the moment. I realize that I need to carry a camera every time we go on walks.

The weather has been mild so we are taking advantage of it and riding everyday. Elli and I are wanting to save for a horse to share. First I need to take lessons from Emma. I told her I would exchange feed for lessons. She said yes until she thought about it and then came back with two bags of feed a month. She is our negotiator.

Elli got a female bunny last week. She wants to raise them and sell them. They are a smaller breed, Dutch and make great pets. Friday we plan to pick up a hen and her six new chicks. Elli is so excited! She hopes to have enough hens to sell farm fresh eggs. I guess she will also get a rooster so she can raise chicks to sell.

I was thinking the other day about how entrepreneurial minded our children have become. I think homeschooling has given them the time, confidence and desire to explore their interest. I am so thankful we get to teach our children at home. Where else can you go horseback riding during recess?

I know it has been a very long time since we posted anything, but we hope to keep in touch more this next year. We have relocated to a working cattle farm. We are renting and don't have to work the cattle but get to enjoy the farm life. We are seeking a simple life and are selling our historic 100 year old house in town. Agree with us in prayer that it sells quickly.
