The Federation’s 2011 Bursary application is attached in Word and PDF formats.

In 2010 our bursaries assisted 23 young people in and from care with the financial costs of tuition, books, and supplies for post-secondary academic, technical or vocational training or academic upgrading that will lead them into a career in the Social Service, Health or Education sectors. This post-secondary bursary has been increased and is now available to a maximum of $2,000 per academic year (two semesters) and students may apply over multiple years.

Thanks to the generosity of our members and partners, over $21,000 was raised for the 2010 Bursary Program, we hope to better that this year! If you would like to donate to the Youth in Care Bursary, please go to our website at http://www.fcssbc.ca/youth-in-care-scholarship.php#donate and click on the CanadaHelps.org link or if you would prefer to donate by mail, the donate form is attached for your convenience. Thank you for your belief in post-secondary education, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Please ensure that this information is widely distributed and encourage applications from young people in your circles. Young people who applied last year are welcome to re-apply. The deadline for applications is May 06, 2011 and detailed information is in the attached forms. c) Type written essay 500-750 words- describing why you feel this scholarship should be awarded to you, including how it fits into your music education/career goals.

d. Submit a minimum 250 word essay outlining what post-secondary educational path they wish to pursue and which institute they are enrolling at. Essay should include a general overview describing the services provided by the Agassiz Fire Department.

e. Scholarship based on the above criteria as well as academic standing.

Don Ramsay Scholarship for music or related program student- Due May 2.

The Betty Spalton Trust Fund was established in 1999 to provide financial support to individuals obtaining an education in fields associated with the road building and heavy construction industry. As one of the goals of this fund is to encourage diversity in the industry, preference is given to females and/or members of minority groups. The fund honours Betty Spalton, an industry and Association leader who died after a brief illness in 1999.

The Betty Spalton Education Fund is a merit-based scholarship, awarding the successful candidate $1,500 for study and living expenses.

Who May Apply:

· Any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road maintenance or heavy construction.

· Preference will be given to students who are female and/or members of minority groups.

· Program of study may be either full or part-time at any BC college, university, technical or trades institute.

· Individuals returning back to school to upgrade their skills and knowledge are welcome to apply.

· The judges reserve the right not to award the scholarship if no suitable candidates apply.

· Canadian citizens.

Applications should include:

· A brief 250 – 500 word essay explaining interest in obtaining an education in the field and career goals.

· Transcripts from any secondary and post-secondary institutions attended.

· A resume.

Deadline & Judging

· Deadline is May 31st of each year.

· The Association’s Betty Spalton Fund Committee will decide who the successful candidate is.

· Winners will be contacted directly by the Association.
