So you have your new website ready. What are you going to do next? Well...it's only logical that you want to place it somewhere where people can notice and visit your site as often as possible.

The first thing that you may want to do without spending a dime is to submit your URL to a search engine. Talking about search engines, there are easily thousands of them around. Some of the more popular ones are Google, Yahoo and MSN. However, simply posting your site to these major search engines have a disadvantage. Talking about nicht marketing. I was told by my SEO Lecturer Shihengcheong that "FengShui" is a good topic to embark on. I did a search on "Feng Shui" with wordtracker yesterday and found that indeed it is a relatively high demand and low supply subject. A further search on keyword relating to fengshui got me excited and i went ahead to get myself a Fengshui related domain to work on.

As an Affiliate Marketer, your business is to promote other peoples product. How much money you can make from it will depends on how well you promote the product. Sounds fair enought? Let's talk about adsense .....

In case you're asking. What the heck is this adsense thing and why are so many people talking about it? Ok, Adsense was created by google as a way to monetize webmasters for putting google ads on their website.

As you know, google makes lots of money from their search engine. Everytime someone clicks on a google ads ,( sponsored ads ) an advertiser will have to pay google base on how much he bid to get his site seen by a potential customer.

As an adsense publisher. You allow google to place ads on your site, so that when someone clicks on the ads. Google will share part of the earnings they get from the advertiser with you. Until now, no one knows exactly how much google split the share with its publisher but some sources say that can be as high as 78%. ( google gets 22% )

So, you got your adsense code, placed it onto your website and what's next? Logically speaking, what follows should be quite simple. Get as many people to click on your ads and walla! you've got some money into your adsense account.

Now , before you let your imagination run wild.....check out google's terms and conditions. Many people have got their adsense account banned or remove without even knowing what happen.

If you really want to make a decent income out of adsense, you have to consider the following.

1. Keyword selection - Cost per click
2.Click thru rate - Which is the actual amount of clicks you get of out 100 exposures.
3. Traffic to your site - without which , your adsense site is meaningless.

Keyword selection

Before you start placing adsense code onto your site. You have to consider the theme and content of your site and optimize it with the right keywords as this would attract the relevent ads to you page. Also different ads command different price. So you would want to talk about content ( keywords ) that brings you the best cost per click. ( meaning you earn more when someone click on your ads )

Click thru rate

If you have 100 visitors to your site and 50 of them click on your ads, ( any ads from google ) then your CTR is 50%. Theoritically, the higher your CTR the better. However, in reality not all visitors who visit your site will click on your ads and that's normal. In fact, if your CTR is unrealistically high, google will start to suspect you and may give you a warning or even banned you without warning. ( This is true as it has happened to one of my friend ) So, never try to click on your own ads or tell your friends to do that unless you wanna end your adsense career very soon.

Typically, CTR can range from 3% to as high as 30%. Some tips to increase your CTR includes the following.

1. Make sure your ads do not look like an ad. ( remove borders, blend colours with backgroud
etc)
2. Do not choose the typically 468x60 and 234x60 banner type, as this reasults in "banner
blindness " ( nobody likes to click on banners )
3. Placing a picture over your adsense ad is one trick experts use to drastically improve
their CRT. ( up to 300% for me )

Traffic

Well....now we come to the crucial part. Without traffic, the best website in the world is dead. ( no clicks, no money ) The best way to get free traffic is thru Search engine optimization which gives you free exposure. However, this will require some SEO knowledge to implement. You can also write articles and submit to directories or ezines. This is a very effective way to get long term traffic and it adds to your website ranking as well.The fastest way is thru pay per click search engines. However, to do this effectively and economically. You would have to use a method of arbitraging. ( e.g. if your CTR is 3%. and you spend $0.05 per click to get your visitors. Then you will have to make at least $5 from these 3 click to break even ) This method cost you money, but you get quick traffic. Just make sure that you don't spend more than you earn.

There is a saying in affiliate marketing that he who has the biggest list is king. As mentioned in my earlier postings, building a substantial list of customers is crucial to your business. To do that internet marketers use an opt-in form on their landing page. ( sometimes call opt-in page , name squeeze page, shy page )

The key objective of this page is to encourage prospects ( or suspect in most cases ) to leave their name and email behind, so you can contact them again should they not purchase anything from you the first time round. Otherwise they will be gone forever if they do not buy from you now.

Creating the form is easy with the help of some scripts. You can also subscribe to third party autoresponder services which offers ready made opt-in form. The trick here is how to get them to put their personal details into your form.

To do that , you need to build a bridge for them to get to you. Most visitors usually start of as a suspect. Only when they are comfortable enought to show some interest are they consider as your prospect. When such prospect place their first order with you, they are now your customer. Once you have reached this stage. The effectiveness of your follow-up services will convert them into members when they start to purchase more items from you. If such customer begin to solicit and recommend more buyers to buy from you. You know you have an evangelist in the making.

So, how do I get traffic online? and for that matter, highly targeted traffic which not just visit your site and kiss you goodbye after that. You want them to either buy something from your site or at least leave you with a contact to get back to them later…right?

Internet gurus sells you e-books, reports, or even quick tips that get you excited. But what happens after that? Are you left alone for figure out how to get it to work?

Well…brace yourself. Traffic or just the topic on traffic itself is big business on the web.
Internet marketing gurus constantly come up with new ideas to sell you traffic or at least the idea to get traffic.

The reverse is true if your cost exceeds your sales.

Traffic exchange. As the saying goes, nothing is free in this world. Although this type of ads may not cost you any money. ( free member available ) You basically need to do a lot of work to earn the traffic. By submitting your ads the site. You get free exposure by looking and clicking on the ads of other members. The more ads you view, the more your ads will be view by others. Since the pool of members within the site come from diverse business background. This type of traffic may not be as targeted as the ones in PPC.

Ezines or electronic magazines is another way to get targeted traffic. Here you leverage on other peoples pool of existing member to market your product. You can submit your ads to the many ezines sites for a nominal fee and your ads will be viewed by members of that site. Remember to submit your ads to the relevant ezines sites to reach the targeted traffic you want.

SEO is acronym for search engine optimization. It is very much related to the pay per click method of marketing. However, in this case you optimize your webpage to attract the spider / crawler of the search engine so as to get your site listed on the top page of the search engine for free. ( call the organic search ) This is the ideal scenario. However, the knowledge behind the optimization work is in-dept. Before you start running to google ( adwords ) and put your affiliate link on your ad. Note that google no longer allows affiliate links to be advertised directly. You need to create your own sale page or landing page and advertise it instead. ( no such constrain on other PPC company )

As in any internet marketing. You need customer, otherwise your business is as good as dead. You can get traffic from many different sources. Some you pay, some are free but you may have to do some work.

The following are they different types of online traffic you may want to consider.

Whichever of the above method you choose to get your traffic . You need to make full use of them by creating your own list . That is why you need to capture them in a list and contact then in the near future to increase you chances of sales. Statistics shows that customer usually buy after the third round of persuasion.
