Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Independence Day. I’ve been thinking about what Independence Day means to me. Of course, it means our Independence from Great Britain. But what else does it mean?

To me it means that you all have the freedom of entrepreneurship. In this country you can start a business. Pretty much any business without much fuss. But you’re not guaranteed of success. That’s okay. You can learn a lot from your failures.

One of the things I’ve learned about my business is that I need to get more comfortable with communicating. Yep, I’m a chicken. However, you and I can how to better communicate in our business. In fact, Diane Hochman and the gang from Home and Small Business World will be interviewing…….

Review of Happy for No Reason: How to be Happy Even During the Toughest Times

For those of you who want to know if Happy for No Reason: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out
by Marci Shimoff is a good book, it is. Go read it. For the rest who want to know what I thought, read on.

I had heard of Happy for No Reason about a year ago and figured at some point I would read it.

Well, I went to see if a bookclub I belonged to had added any books to their reading list. Lo and behold there was Happy for No Reason. So I went to the library and picked it up.

I knew it would be a good book because I really respected the people who put this bookclub together. I did wonder if it was going to be a little, well, woo-woo?

Now, for those who know me, I don’t mind woo-woo stuff. Hey, I’m a devoted fan of Ghost Hunters.

But I know that I am in the minority.

I am happy to report that Marci Shimoff did a wonderful job of explaining how to increase happiness in a logical way with some stories, examples, and even some research to back it up.

Marci Shimoff suggests a 7-step program to increase your happiness.
1.   The Foundation – Take Ownership of Your Happiness
2.   The Pillar of the Mind – Don’t Believe Everything You Think
3.   The Pillar of the Hear – Let Love Lead
4.   The Pillar of the Body – Make Your Cells Happy
5.   The Pillar of the Soul – Plug Yourself in to Spirit
6.   The Roof- Live a Life Inspired by Purpose
7.   The Garden – Cultivate Nourishing Relationships

She goes into detail explaining each step and has activities for you to complete.Marci also gives a very detailed list of resources.

There is even a free pdf workbook to download which includes all the activities in the original book. This is especially great for those who borrow the book from the library.

My one criticism is that a game plan is not laid out. For instance she doesn’t say do this for a period of time then move onto the next step.

Many people may be overcome by all of the activities and not do any of them.

So all in all I really liked Happy for No Reason: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out
by Marci Shimoff. If you truly want to increase your happiness, invest in this book.

What is Social Media?

If you’re new to the internet or even if you are not so new to the internet you’ve probably heard of social media. You may have even asked yourself or others the question, “What is Social Media?”

When I sat down to write this article, I realized that I had no clue how to put the answer to the question, What is Social Media? in my own words.

So I went to everyone’s favorite free encyclopedia and they answered the question for me.

What is Social Media? According to Wikipedia on Monday, March 22, 2010:

Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media uses Internet and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many). It supports the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers into content producers.

Hmmm, so in other words social media allows us to talk back and forth with the writer of an article or post instead of just reading an article. Now, we can comment on it and anything else we want.

Now, you may be asking, “What are the parts of social media?” Well, they are

• Blogs – You’re reading on now.

• Photo Sharing – Flickr

• Video Sharing – YouTube

• Personal Social Networks- Ning

• Webinars – online classes or workshops

• Email – Gmail

• Wikis – Wikipedia

• Podcasting – audio sites (iTunes hosts podcasts)

• Microblogs – Twitter

• SMS- texting

• Collaborative tools – GoToMeeting

In upcoming articles I’ll talk about types of social media platforms and online social networks in general and how they can be used in your Affiliate Network Marketing plan.

Renegade Marketing: What is Renegade Marketing?

What is Renegade Marketing? Good question. Renegade Marketing is the application of attraction marketing as recommended by Ann Sieg of The Renegade Network Marketer and Mike Klingler, founder of Renegade Professional. It also includes the community of marketers that have grown up

around their teachings.

What is attraction marketing? Well, that is where you attract leads to you instead of chasing them down. No more writing down a list of 100 people you know. No more walking up to strangers to try to prospect them.

“Renegade Marketing” teaches you how to set up a sales marketing funnel and marketing system so that quality leads are coming to you.

How does this work? You offer something of value to your target market. For example, you just learned how to make a HubPages hub.

You, then, write an article describing how to put up a hub. At the end of your article you may offer a free consultation for anyone that signs up for a free membership to Renegade University.

When, someone signs up for Renegade University, you’ve just captured a lead as you shared your knowledge to others for free.

If your new lead takes you up on the free consultation, you then find out what they need and you offer them choices to help them solve their business problems.

(This is called consultative consulting and I will cover that in another post.)

In fact I’ve just done that in this post. I stated a possible problem that my target market may have. (Chasing friends, family, and strangers to sign them up in your company).

Next, you were given a solution: learn how to use attraction marketing or renegade marketing to attract prospects to you.

Finally, I gave an example of how to attract leads to you.

Yes, this process is simple, but not necessarily easy. Building a business is a lot of work. Mike Klingler, in particular, teaches you to take consistent action.

I’ll cover more of the “how to” in the attraction marketing training category of this blog.
