Start with your own expertise or interests
By far, the best (internet marketing) business is one that you don’t exactly experience as real work, but rather as fun and easy to do. Something you genuinely enjoy and love doing. Follow the kind that you feel most comfortable in and that you truly want to get into.

An affiliate marketing business (as a merchant) may not be right for you if you lack the patience to train other people or if you do not want to build a business based on membership. If that’s the case, you won’t find a workable internet marketing idea here. Toy with the type of business you DO want to build up, the sort you can really excel in. If you do that, you will also have a jolly good idea of which products or services you can offer in your internet marketing business.

Concentrate on the specifics
Many industries offer too broad products or services to be effective for a internet marketing idea. Just try a simple keyword search online to see what types of results you will come up with and if you can narrow it down to a more specific business.

Suppose you want to sell gift baskets as an internet marketing business. Doing some research, you will soon find out that there are many related businesses within your vicinity alone. You HAVE to be more specific to stand out and compete. Zero in on a more definite product line or service, instead of coming up with such a generic internet marketing idea.

Follow the Trends
Examining trends can be helpful if you know how to interpret market behaviors. Or if you just want an idea of what types of changes are currently occurring. It also shows you which products or services have turned out to be the most successful and profitable.

Most trends are very easy to find in industry specific web news. Maybe you already have a distinct industry in mind and to start your business you only need one specific internet marketing idea. By watching new successful shifts in the industry, you’re much more expected to come up with an idea that will suit your interest.
Which makes trends an outstanding source for your internet marketing ideas.

Visit online forums, discussion boards and newsgroups
That’s typically where new issues and trends are discussed. For example affiliate marketers will discuss concerns concerning their industry. Have you seen the Clickbank click-through versus sales discussions lately? If you frequently visit these forums, it will be a snap to find the trends that are currently prevalent.

Be careful though, don’t expect numerous objective news here. Most of the posts just express personal opinions. On the other hand, you’ll quickly learn what other internet marketers are thinking, saying and doing. Thus you’ll quickly get necessary information about products, services, resources and related software.
Which makes these sites excellent sources for ideas.

So there are many sources where you can get excellent Internet marketing ideas. And here’s another one.

Six Simple Steps To Build A Highly Profitable Niche Business

Many marketers focus on ‘making money’ rather than building a ‘real business’.
By ‘making money’, I mean things like bum marketing that aren’t sustainable and that can’t be grown.
It’s important that you focus on growing a business now. A business selling products, with prospect lists, with buyer lists, with systems, and with the potential for growth and back-end income.

In this article I’m going to reveal the simple steps you need to take to have your own profitable niche marketing business. Let’s get going…

Step 1: Niche Identification & Research
As always, the first step is to identify your niche, or your market. The number one characteristic your market should have is that there are already people buying products. With your business you’re going to be selling. Whether it be your own digital products, physical products, services, or someone else’s. That’s the way you make money so make sure the market you choose already has proven buyers.

Step 2: Product Creation
You’ve identified your market and hopefully you’ve researched the competition, potential partners, market trends, what your prospects want and all the rest. Now you can create your own product. I always recommend starting with a short, low priced report just to test the market and to build a list of buyers that you can profit from in the future.

One thing I will say on product creation is that the single most important thing is that you create quality. Competition is fierce online, and the only way you can stand out from the rest is by providing quality content for your prospects and buyers. Just take a look at the rise of Lee McIntyre in the last 6 months or so. Why has he become one of the most talked about internet marketers? Why has he been able to have 5 figure months after just a short time online? One reason – he provides quality. Not only for his buyers, but also for his free subscribers.

Step 3: Copywriting
I’ve only recently understood the power of copywriting. Copywriting is not limited to your sales page. Copywriting involves your sales message, your emails, your articles, the name of your product. Every aspect of your business should do something to persuade your prospect to invest in your products.

I have one short report on the market in the “beauty” niche. This is a big, passionate market. 3 months ago I was getting 500 visitors per month and 3 (yes, THREE!) sales per month at $10.

My sales page just didn’t have that WOW factor. It was beautifully structured and read fluently, but it didn’t grab attention, or persuade, or convince anyone why they should buy the product. Fast forward 3 months and after a little editing I’m now getting approximately 600 visitors per month and close to 35 sales. There’s still room to grow, but that’s a massive improvement. It’s important to learn basic copywriting principles if you are to be successful with this business model.

Step 4: Traffic Generation
You have your sales page, now you need traffic… and buyers. Driving traffic can be done in many different ways. There are creative methods, and there are your regular run of the mill type methods. I prefer the traditional article marketing, back links, joint ventures, SEO. I find this to bring the best quality of traffic and to be the best long-term strategy.

Again, the focus is on quality. You need to write quality articles, get links from quality sites, JV’s from quality partners. Everything about your business should ooze quality.

Step 5: Backend Profits
The main profits from this business model will come from the back-end. The short report should simply be used as a filter; to filter out the dead wood and the people who wouldn’t spend money with you anyway. What you’re left with are people that trust you, people that are able to (and comfortable) with buying products online, and – if you have provided quality – people that will buy from you again, and again, and AGAIN!

Here’s how the process should work:

1. Prospect comes to your site, likes what she see’s and buys your short report for $10.
2. Immediately after payment, she is redirected to the download page where she downloads her product and signs up for your list.
3. You now send her emails (perhaps 2 per week). Sometimes you can pitch affiliate products and other products you develop, but most of the time you send her top quality content. Look after your subscribers, and the rest will take care of itself. This subscriber could be on your list for the next ten years. She could spend thousands of dollars with you. You could have thousands of subscribers that do the same. Do you see the potential?

Step 6: Grow Your Operation
You’ve created one short report now. You’re getting a lot of traffic, buyers and subscribers. Now it’s time to grow your operation. Create more short reports and get more people into your funnel. Create longer products that you can sell for more money. Create physical products that you can sell for three figure prices. Sell your expertise by mentoring a few subscribers for four figure prices. Host seminars and sell tickets for five figure prices.

This is how you build a business. Stop thinking small time with bum marketing and pay-per click affiliate marketing. That’s great if you want a few hundred dollars a week, but that’s not what you should be striving for.

This product consists of two binders full of great online marketing advice. Back then, I read both binders from cover to cover and learned everything there was to know about marketing online.

Browsing through the table of contents, I recognize many lessons that are still valuable today. Like “Lesson 3: The Sales Process – Creating Killer Copy”, “Lesson 4: The Power of Email” and “Lesson 15: The Importance of ‘Backend’ and Upsell Products”.

Or “Lesson 12: Search Engine Secrets”, “Lesson 14: Who is Buying on the Internet” and “Lesson 16: The Hottest Products and Services”.

But I also remember that some parts of the course were on the edge. Lesson 6, for instance, was called: “Bulk Email Works – with the Right Secrets”. Read that with interest, but never used it.

The product included some software, delivered on these little disks. There were 4 of them. One contains ‘email extractor’ software program. Never used that one either.

But for the rest the information contained in the course was outstanding. 490 pages in total, sent to my office in The Netherlands. It put me on the right path to successful Internet marketing.

Unfortunately, as we all know, Corey passed away too early.

Then Corey’s right hand Derek Gehl took over. He appeared to be the right man at the right place. Because, under Derek’s management, the company went to almost $100 million sales a year!

On itself an amazing achievement, but then again he had a great mentor. It proves how valuable the lessons were that I took back in 1999 and how Derek put them into practice to achieve an enormous growth for the company.

Why am I writing this?

So What Is YOUR Excuse Again?

In the world of Internet marketing, there are really ONLY two broad categories of people… those who make excuses, and those who “find a way… no matter what”.

I think that I fall into the “find a way” category. As a youth, stuck in the cycle of poverty and welfare, I certainly didn’t see a clear path. I didn’t have any mentors or role models that I could conveniently hang out with. So, it took me over 20 years to figure out how simple success really is.

Another person who clearly fits in the “find a way” category is my friend Clay Cotton. Clay clearly validates that the excuses category really consists of people who CHOOSE to make excuses instead of taking action.

Yes, they chose it.

It’s interesting. Clay was a talented piano player who once ran with the likes of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and scores of showbiz legends. That is until the M.S. ended his piano playing in 1996.

When that great “excuse to make excuses” hit Clay “Pow! Right between the eyes” he gravitated directly to Internet marketing where Clay and his wife, Kimberly, have made a modest living since 1996. Clay even taught from the stage in a wheelchair until 2002 at which point travel became too difficult.

You see, as a result of Multiple Sclerosis, Clay is now nearly a full-blown quadriplegic. And Kimberly cares for him, since he can do very, very few physical things for himself.

Recently, with health care costs ballooning out of control and mounting bills Clay sized up his situation and asked himself, “Good God, what can I do?” So he discussed these issues with several online friends, including me.

Clay agreed that there are tremendous assets which he still has, aside from his heart-warming, caring personality – A sociable nature, an active mind and an ability to talk. Clay is a giver. He enjoys people and has a natural talent with words, and for persuasion.

So last week on the phone, Clay joked that he is evolving into a genuine “talking head”, but then asked, “Seriously, Willie, how can I still earn a living?”

After some lively discussion, Clay decided that he could combine his “people” skills, with my Joint Venture Broker Certification training. He can be a match-maker, helping connect people in business. He can actually earn a good living as a joint venture broker, in spite of his physical challenges. “So cool…”, he whispered.

Having spent many hours on the phone with Clay, there is little doubt in my mind that with just a little training, he will be a tremendous joint venture broker.

Clay gave this some serious thought, and I could hear the ideas percolating, then agreed, and he enrolled in my 4-week tele-training, as you very well may…

The point here is that Clay could have given up and felt sorry for himself, and nobody would’ve argued the point. But…

Clay asks himself what he can do to take responsibility for his future. Pure and simple.

Then he takes action. Period.

Clay clearly belongs in our “find a way… no matter what” category, and you WILL be hearing a lot more from him over time.

To show my credibility in Internet marketing, I’ve set up a local online marketing and web design website. It doesn’t get many visitors yet -it’s too new-, but I do get quite a few buyers. Wonder how did I achieve that?

Well, it all started with a thread on the Warrior forum that I spoke about in Free Products And Opportunities called A Stupidly Simple Cash Cow” and it’s FREE!

The thread had over 3000 replies and nearly 150,000 page views and was REMOVED from the forum because it got so LARGE that it was slowing down the server! A highly popular topic that put many members on the right track to make serious money using online marketing for offline businesses!

You can promote yourself and your business, PLUS you can make money from it, just by writing a 4 page true story. It must be a good story, but that’s all there is to it. Details are below.

We’ve done Group Projects before. I was so fortunate to manage the very first one and I was very happy that this project was an outstanding success from the start.

Since then there have been many more projects and lots of members have successfully launched their own products because other members joint ventured with them. We’re a close group, working perfectly together. And it’s always nice to learn from the famous marketers who are in there. So… another group project, but in contrast with previous ones, YOU can participate.

This one is managed by famous marketer Rob ‘The Genie’ Toth.
Rob is collecting 100 stories of how people made their first $100 online. He already has close to 60 stories, but there’s room for 100 of them.

That’s where you come in. You can send your story to Rob.
Once he has his 100 stories, he will create an information product out of it and we’re going to do MAJOR marketing campaign to get this spread out all over the Net.

If YOU participate, this could potentially mean A LOT of FREE ADVERTISING for you and your business.

The only condition for participating in this great venture are some guidelines that you have to comply to (see below) and I warn you, if your submission doesn’t comply it will be deleted immediately.

So please read these guidelines carefully. They’re not difficult to follow.
Submissions close on February 28, 2009, so, after reading the guidelines, send in your submission immediately. First come, first served!

Guidelines:
- Must be a true story. Don’t make something up just to contribute!

- 2-4 pages preferred. Single spaced, regular 12pt font size. BUT… if you article is full of great content and is a great story, obviously exceptions can be made. But do try to stick to the 2-4 page guideline.

- Your content must be an ethical strategy (spam blasting, cheating, scams, etc not allowed). Maybe you made mistakes months or years ago when you started and you were spamming anything and everything. That’s fine. Hope you’ve learned your lessons. BUT… the story of those results won’t suffice. Please find the first LEGITIMATE $100 (approx) that you’ve created ONLINE.

- You should describe at least your first $100 worth of steps taken. So if your first ever income online was selling a set of golf balls on Ebay where you made $15 net profit… then also add in your 2nd way of how you generated an income. Give the reader a look at how you created at least $100. NOTE: If your first ever idea produced thousands, by all means PLEASE include that story.

- Try to offer a bit of background and tell it like a story or with conversational writing (ie: this is NOT a technical journal).

- Feel free to mention the lessons you’ve learned to provide the reader with some points to take away. In fact, feel free to include screen shots and specific numbers if/when possible.

- Your story’s particulars (that is to say the money making part) should be geared towards a “beginner” … Therefore using acronyms, big words etc…. won’t help them understand it. Please, keep that in mind.

- The less fancy formatting you use, the quicker and less problematic it is to add into the project. So cutting the text off at 65 characters, indentation, use of multiple fonts and colors etc isn’t helpful. If possible, please avoid these.

- Please run spell check and quickly proof your submission (makes the job easier for the editors).

- Profile pictures are recommended but you MUST send them as a separate file (vs just copy/pasting into Word). The final document is being compiled via Publisher and it’s easier to work with images if they are added in “raw” vs. copy/pasted from your word file. NOTE: If you’d like to include screenshots, etc … it’s encouraged but again, please send the images you use separately as well (though you’ll want them in your .doc so I know where you wanted them placed).

- Only YOUR domains will be hyperlinked and only within reason (ie: don’t list 10 of your sites just for the sake of it). But no affiliate links will be permitted. Also, blogspot and squidoo links, etc won’t be linked either. If you’d like to drive traffic to a blogger page (for example), please use a domain redirect.

- OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED: Include a “by-line” or “resource box” at the end of your article. It makes sense that you should include a bit of information of who you are (edification about you) but also include a link back to your web page. It must be your own web page (no affiliate links permitted).

- As a contributor… you’ll be setup to earn 100% commission once the product is launched. BUT… please note that you will NOT be permitted to give copies away freely or at your discretion. This is a group project and is owned by the group. Please respect that by NOT giving away copies of the finished product.

- First 100 submissions (approved submissions!) get included … though there’s always room for a volume 2 … but the sooner you write/provide yours, the more likely you’ll be part of it.

NOTE: If you’d like to include a video in conjunction with your text, send it in. It can help add more dimensions to the product, a lot more perceived value AND will build better rapport for you with the reader.

- To submit your story, please provide it in either .txt or .doc format (not PDF!) and send it as directed below:

1) Send an email to info AT 27am DOT com with your .txt or .doc file attached (or a link to where I can download it from).

2) IMPORTANT: The subject of your email must be “100 Stories Contributor” … this way I find it easier.

3) You must also include contact details in your email … full name, email address and, preferably, phone or Skype in case I (or another editor) need to contact you.
