A key must have for your business success is the ability to explain your business in one or two sentences. This brief explanation must be able to cover what you do in general, but also introduces what value you offer. For example, if you're a car salesman, a good example would be "I help people get good price and value for new or used cars".

This one or two sentences which simply describes your business would help you when you're meeting people in events, or parties. It would be a nice and friendly way to break the ice before you hand over your business card.

If you have a website, such simplicity should also be embraced. Businesses normally use MS Power Point to explain their business in a simple, straight to the point and visual way. Many business already have a PowerPoint slide to explain their business.

A good trick to embody this PowerPoint slide to your website is to use SlideShare.com. Just register, upload your .ppt file, and add it to your website or blog. It's an excellent way to make people understand what you do, without needing to read pages and pages of boring explanation.

Besides, there's too much information on the web already. Simplifying things would be a great advantage for you website audience.

It is undeniable that any company in this new era should think about embracing technology to operate efficiently. It could be as simple as having MS Word to type your invoices, or as complicated as having a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to keep track of leads, marketing and sales.

One of the biggest mistakes a company can make is swallowing it all up too soon. Sure its wonderful to have all those big automated systems which is "supposed" to help smoothen operations, but most of the time things get too big, too complicated. At the end, the technology becomes a white elephant. Money is wasted.

Start with basics:
1. An internet connection
2. PCs
3. Basic office software like word processors and spreadsheets
4. Email and a website
5. Telephones

As the business grows, it will be easy to identify where gaps are, and what can be improved. Bottom line, you should focus on your core competency - Your business.
