'NL' in full means 'Leaders of Nigeria', Nigeria Since her independence(1960), 80% of her governance has been flooded by a group of Irresponsible and Inhuman politicians. who under the umbrella of politics, has done more harm to this great nation than they have done good. A nation with all her Natural resources cannot boast of better life for her citizens, a nation capable of becoming world power, judging from its wealth of natural endowment, has been drastically reduces to nothing, thanks to a group of leaders who are insensitive to the basic needs of her(Nigerian) people. No Electricity, no pipe-borne water, Low infrastructural facilities, and high rate of insecurity among others.

Since her Independence Infrastructural crime has been on constant increase, she has been Labelled as a High risk nation by global perspective, because of high rate of different categories of corruptions. As a result, Tourism is practically Non-functional, diseases are on the increase, The total economy of this highly endowed nation is constantly experiencing great inflation, The citizens live in a vicious cycle; where the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. This has lingered on for Decades, her politics has known nothing better than selfishness, corruption and gross marginalization of the silent majority, by the vocal minority. The silent majority are more of poor background, of whom the weight of huge atrocities committed by the vocal minority, is placed on their head.

The rule of law has been laid down only for the silent majority. When a leader commits a punishable offense , he/she is left to go free, but when one of these silent majority commits an offense, the hell is let loose.Oh! what a nation, highly blessed, perfect location, huge natural endowment., yet 89% or more of her citizens are poor; living on less than $2 per-day, but their so-called leaders have fat accounts littered in different banks in different parts of the world. Why this selfishness? Why this man-inhumanity-to-man? . Why this gross evil by the leaders, to a nation and her citizens?

The people of this great nation, more than any other nation on earth, has great ability to instill patience and tolerance, hoping that one day, victory and normalcy will come. But when will this victory come?, when will this change come?.

From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force. Is it going to be the same with Nigeria?

God Bless Nigeria.

By Ben Hayward | Spanish Football Writer

Jose Mourinho hit the
headlines again on Friday with an outburst aimed at Arsene Wenger, who
the Chelsea boss claimed to be a serial loser. It was the latest
incident in a spiky rivalry between the pair dating back nearly a
decade, but the Frenchman is by no means the only victim of the
Portuguese coach's acid tongue.

From Porto to Inter to Madrid,
the outspoken 51-year-old has a long history of colourful feuds, with
his tenure in Spain notably ending with a divided dressing room and
mixed feelings about his reign at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With all of that in mind, Goal
looks back at some of the major confrontations throughout Mourinho's
top-level coaching career, an A to Z of his greatest controversies over
the last decade ...

A is for ambulances: When
Petr Cech suffered a severe head injury after clattering into another
player at Reading, Mourinho pointed the finger at the ambulance service
and claimed that their slow reaction could have proved fatal for his
goalkeeper. "Thirty minutes in the dressing room, waiting for an
ambulance ... If my goalkeeper dies in that dressing room, it is
something English football has to think about," the Portuguese raged.
The reality, however, was rather different: the ambulance arrived after
seven minutes and within 19, Cech was already in hospital.

B is for Benitez:
Mourinho and Rafa Benitez have never seen eye to eye and their rivalry
was not restricted only to the pitch during the Portuguese's time at
Chelsea and the Spaniard's spell at Liverpool, when the Reds beat the
Blues in two Champions League semi-finals. Later, Benitez replaced
Mourinho at Inter and the Portuguese poured scorn on his rival's triumph
in the Club World Cup as he took the credit for the trophy. "I thought
he was going to thank me for the title I gave him," Mourinho said.
"Inter fans would tell you how they really feel about it."

C is for the Camp Nou car park: Furious
at several decisions by referee Jose Antonio Teixeira Vitienes in
Madrid's Copa del Rey quarter-final second-leg clash at Camp Nou in
January 2012, Mourinho waited for the official in the car park following
his side's elimination and directed abuse at the Cantabrian. "Now you
will go and have a cigar and you will laugh, artist!" he is reported to
have told the official. The Portuguese had earlier appealed for three
penalties, believed Lionel Messi should have been dismissed for a second
bookable offence and was unhappy at Sergio Ramos' red card. In the
press room he said: "I won't speak about the referee, but what I have
heard in the dressing room is that it is impossible to win here."

THE SPANISH ONE - BENITEZ

D is for Dani Alves: When
Barca's Dani Alves claimed Mourinho had not invented football, the
Portuguese sarcastically compared the defender to Albert Einstein and
reminded the Brazilian that "it was a Portuguese" who discovered his
country. Mourinho also accused Alves of simulation to get Pepe sent off
in the Champions League semi-final against Barca in 2011 and can clearly
be seen shouting obscenities to the Brazilian in another Clasico clash.

E is for EPL:
Mourinho met Arsenal's Ashley Cole without permission to discuss a
transfer to Chelsea and, following an inquiry, the English Premier
League fined the Portuguese €245,000 for tapping up the player. The
punishment was later reduced to €92,000.

F is for Frisk:
Popular referee Anders Frisk was forced to retire from the game after
he was wrongly accused by Mourinho of inviting then Barcelona boss Frank
Rijkaard to his room at half-time in a Champions League last-16 clash
at Camp Nou. Rijkaard remonstrated with the official at the break but
the Dutchman was not allowed to follow the official into his room.
Mourinho, however, claimed otherwise and blamed the invented incident
for the second-half dismissal of Didier Drogba as Chelsea lost 2-1. The
Swede later received death threats from Blues supporters and was forced
out of the game altogether. Uefa referees' chief Volker Roth later
labelled Mourinho 'the enemy of football' for the Frisk fiasco.

G is for Guardiola:
Mourinho was assistant coach at Barcelona when Pep Guardiola was club
captain and the pair were close, but there was no love lost between them
as they went head to head for two seasons in Spain. The Portuguese
mocked the Catalan following the Copa del Rey final in 2011 after
Guardiola had lamented a close offside call that saw a Pedro strike
ruled out. "There is now a new group of which only he is a member, which
criticises referees' correct decisions." Guardiola responded with a
rant of his own before Barca and Madrid met in the Champions League and
after the Catalans came out on top, Mourinho attacked his former friend
once again. "He knows how he has won the Champions League twice," he
said, bemoaning what he called 'The Scandal of Stamford Bridge' - when
Pep's 2009 side survived to beat the Blues as several decisions went in
their favour.

H is for handcuffs:
Mourinho received a three-game touchline ban and a €4,000 fine
following a "handcuffs" gesture during Inter's game against Genoa in
February, 2010. The Portuguese protested as Walter Samuel and Ivan
Cordoba were sent off, and made the gesture (in front of the television
cameras, for maximum effect) as Samuel Eto'o was booked, alluding to
victimisation from the officials.

I is for Iker: Not
long into his reign as Madrid coach, Mourinho claimed captain Iker
Casillas was the best goalkeeper in the world. But relations with the
Spain shot-stopper proved prickly from the outset and the Portuguese
benched his skipper in December 2012. Later, when Iker was injured, he
signed Diego Lopez and kept the new man in the side for the remainder of
the campaign, not even calling Casillas up for the last match of the
season.

BENCHED - CAPTAIN CASILLAS

J is for Jesualdo Ferreira: Mourinho
met veteran coach Jesualdo Ferreira in the 1980s when he was a student
at the Lisbon Superior Institute for Physical Education and Ferreira was
a teacher. Mou later refused to accept Ferreira as his
assistant in his first coaching role at Benfica and mocked the older man
in a column with Portuguese paper Record as he wrote: "This
could be the story of a donkey who worked for 30 years but never became a
horse." Ferreira, however, went on to win three titles in a row with
Porto.

K is for Klopp: Ahead
of Madrid's Champions League semi-final tie against Borussia Dortmund
in April of last year, Mourinho hit out at BVB boss Jurgen Klopp. "Klopp
talks to much," he said. "Since the draw, he has spoken every day."

L is for laundry baskets:
Mourinho clambered into a laundry basket in a Champions League
quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich in order to beat a ban and
deliver his pre-match and half-time team talks. The coach was wheeled in
and out of the dressing room without Uefa's knowledge despite being
barred from contact with his players in both legs. Chelsea later denied
the claims.

M is for Muntari: Mourinho
caused controversy in the Islamic world by questioning Sulley Muntari's
decision to fast during Ramadan. After substituting the Ghanaian during
Inter's draw with Bari in 2009, the Portuguese said: "Muntari had some
problems related to Ramadan, perhaps with this heat it's not good for
him to be doing this [fasting]. Ramadan has not arrived at the ideal
moment for a player to play a football match." The comments drew strong
criticism from prominent Islamic figures in Italy.

N is for nationality: Mourinho
has blamed what he considered to be poor treatment in Madrid on a very
Iberian issue. "It is difficult to be a Portuguese in Spain," he claimed
in 2013. The 50-year-old also told the media in 2012 that he would sign
no more Portuguese players for Madrid after seeing Fabio Coentrao
suffer in the Spanish capital. "The Portuguese have a tough life at Real
Madrid," he explained. "I wouldn't bring any more Portuguese players
here - they have to have a special mentality to resist a situation which
is not easy for them."

WHO IS LO MONACO?

O is for O'Neill: Mourinho
attacked former Celtic coach Martin O'Neill before the Scottish side
met Barcelona in the Uefa Cup in 2004. Recalling the 2003 Uefa Cup final
between his Porto side and O'Neill's Celtic, Mourinho said: "We kept
the ball and they just ran all over the pitch trying to get to us with
their horrible and aggressive style."

P is for Pepe: When
Pepe defended benched club captain Casillas after a Liga clash against
Valladolid in April of last year, Mourinho turned on his once trusted
defender. "Pepe has a problem - and his name is Raphael Varane," the
coach claimed, alluding to the 20-year-old defender who had displaced
the Portugal centre-back in the team.

Q is for Queiroz: "Portugal
have no chance of winning the World Cup, even if Cristiano Ronaldo
plays at 1,000 per cent," Mourinho said of the side coached by Carlos
Queiroz in 2010. "What Mourinho says makes us think deeply," responded
Queiroz, who was said to be furious by his compatriot's remarks. But his
team was unable to respond on the pitch and Cristiano Ronaldo was
nowhere near 100 per cent in a sterile side, let alone 1,000%.

R is for Ronaldo: During
his time at Chelsea, Mourinho was embroiled in a war of words with
Ronaldo after claiming Manchester United often found favour with
referees. Ronaldo responded by calling Mourinho a sore loser, but the
coach hit back by saying: "He doesn't show maturity and respect. Maybe a
difficult childhood, no education, maybe [it is] the consequence of

S is for Stick: Mourinho's
most infamous bust-up in Italy was with former Catania sporting
director Pietro Lo Monaco. Angered by Jose's conduct following Inter's
controversial 2-1 win over the Sicilians, Lo Monaco roared, "Mourinho
deserves to be smacked in the teeth with a stick." The Special One
responded with a classic line of his own: "As for Lo Monaco, I do not
know who he is. I have heard of Bayern Monaco [the Italian name for
Bayern Munich] and the Monaco GP, the Tibetan Monaco [Monk], and the
principality of Monaco. I’ve never heard of any others."

T is for Tito:
Perhaps his lowest blow: Mourinho poked then Barca assistant coach Tito
Vilanova in the eye following a melee at the end of Madrid's Spanish
Supercopa defeat to the Catalans in August of 2011 and later stunned the
media as he said: "Who is Pito Vilanova? I don't know who Pito Vilanova
is ..."

U is for Uefa and Unicef:
During his most memorable press-room rant in Spain, Mourinho accused
Barcelona of receiving favours from Uefa and also questioned the Catalan
club's working relationship with charity Unicef as he reeled off a long
list of conspiracy theories.

V is for Valdano:
Mourinho and Madrid's then director general Jorge Valdano were all
smiles as the Portuguese was unveiled in the summer of 2010, but a power
struggle ensued and the coach publicly hit out at the Argentine for
failing to defend his side's interests. "[He] should be defending the
team," Mourinho said in December of 2010. "The club has a structure but
it's not working - I want a meeting with the president." And, in the
summer, Valdano was gone.

W is for Wenger:
In 2005, after Wenger made comments on Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Everton
and the Blues' League Cup defeat against Charlton, Mourinho infamously
labelled the Frenchman a "voyeur". "I think he is one of these people
who is a voyeur," said the Portuguese coach. "He likes to watch other
people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big
telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks,
speaks about Chelsea. He should be worried about them [Arsenal]. He's
worried about us, he's always talking about us. It's Chelsea, Chelsea,
Chelsea, Chelsea." Wenger had merely claimed the Blues' dip in form had
given the club's rivals "a little bit of hope" in the title race. The
Frenchman has now been labelled a "specialist" in failure by Mourinho,
in response to Wenger's claim that the Portuguese's refusal to admit
that Chelsea are title contenders was down to a "fear to fail".

AS SEEN ON GOOGLE - ZEMAN

X is for Xavi: The Barcelona midfielder told Portuguese paper Record
in 2012: "Guardiola has revolutionised football, there is no comparison
- his worth is considerably higher [than Mourinho's]." The then Madrid
boss replied by simply saying: "Xavi should concentrate on playing
football."

Y is for Yorkshire terrier:
Mourinho was arrested and cautioned after allegedly refusing to allow
police to quarantine his pet dog - a Yorkshire terrier - in 2007. The
Portuguese received a call from his wife telling him police were at
their home in London, rushed home in a taxi from an award ceremony and
grabbed the animal from a health official.

Z is for Zeman:
When former Roma and Lazio coach Zdenek Zeman claimed that Mourinho was
a "mediocre" tactician, the Portuguese hit back with some strong words.
"I am a mediocre coach? Okay! I respect every opinion," Mourinho
stated. "Zeman? I do not know him. Where does he play? He is a coach?
Sorry, I did not know that. Now that I am on holiday I will look him up
on Google to find out who he is and what he has won."

Follow Ben Hayward on

Nick and Wendy Lowe were married at the Wellington Naturist Club on Saturday in a “clothing optional” wedding, reported local newspaper The Dominion Post. About half of the 120 guests were Unclad. Both clothed and Unclad photos were taken, and though guests were asked to dress for dinner, the dancing portion of the event was clothing optional.

Nick encouraged Wendy to embrace the “naturism,” or nudist, lifestyle six years ago.

“It was one of the first things he said to me: ‘I’m a naturist, how do you feel about it?’ I knew at some point I’d have to at least try it,” Wendy said.
The 58-year-old woman was hospitalised after she developed severe abdominal swelling due to excessive eating and drinking, state-run China News Service reported.

During the operation, fire broke out when the gas burst out of her abdomen.

The surgeons had to remove her entire stomach, the report quoted Wang Hao, a doctor at the Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital in Jiangsu province as saying.

Wang said the incident occurred when the ethyl alcohol in the patient’s stomach came in contact with the electric surgical knife.

“Normally, people will stop eating when they feel full. However, drinking alcohol during a rich meal can make people ignore their body’s signals, and they eat too much,” he said.

Chinese celebrated their week-long New Year also known as the Spring Festival this week during which people eat and drink heavily at the family get-togethers.

The chaos in the Central African Republic has continued to rage on as new footage of a man being lynched has been released.

The man was dragged through the streets nearly naked by soldiers while residents of the area filmed and photographed the scene.

The victim was believed to be part of a group of Muslim Rebels, named Seleka, which had been recently ousted after seizing power in March 2013.
According to Daily Mail reports, about 20 uniformed soldiers accused a member of the crowd of having belonged to Seleka – the mostly Muslim rebel group that seized power in a coup last March, before stabbing him repeatedly until he was dead.

A soldier stamped on the lifeless body, which was then dragged nearly naked through the streets as residents looked on and took photographs.

Ten minutes earlier the new interim president, Catherine Samba-Panza, stood just 20m away where she addressed a crowd of at least 1,000 soldiers. The Army effectively disappeared during nine months of Seleka rule.
In what may come as a big surprise to most people, no fewer than 15 persons recently returned certificates issued
to them by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). They said they
had to give up the certificates because they cheated during the
examination, and now as Born Again Christians, they could not live with
“the sin.”
Some individuals, Saturday Sun gathered, had approached WAEC through
letters seeking restitution after they had confessed how they dubiously
acquired their certificates when they wrote the examinations at various
periods.
The council wrote back to them, stating that what
they were expected to
do was to return the certificates awarded in line with the rules and
regulations guiding the conduct of the examinations. However, only few
responded, including a holder of Teachers’ Grade 11 certificate.
It was learnt that those who complied with the directive returned their
certificates to various WAEC offices nationwide and the council took
their case to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC), which, at its
55th meeting in Lagos, cancelled the returned 15 certificates.
According to the council’s letter to NEC, “the listed candidates, in
their letters of restitution, confessed that they were involved in
various forms of examination malpractices in various years as indicated
against their numbers. They have returned the original certificates
issued to them.’’
The returned certificates by the Born Again Christians were for both the
May/June (school exam) and November/December (private candidate) West
African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A breakdown of the year the examinations were taken revealed that the
oldest dates back to June 1983 with certificate no SG 288999. Next is
June 1990 (RS0680084c), June 1992 (NGSS 0994156), June 1995
(NGSS0265147) and December 1995 (NGSP 0169397), December 1996 (NGSP
0575264), December 2000 (NGWASSCP 038771), June 2001 (NGWASSCS 2451037).
Others are June 2002, two certificates with NGWASSCP 4100224 and
NGWASSCS 3894794 were returned and cancelled, June 2003 (NGWASSCS
5009313), June 2006 two born again Christian returned certificates with
NGWASSCP 7747466 and NGWASSCS 8423755, December 2008 (NGWASSCP 05790031)
and June 2010 NGWASSCP 13327157.
There are several Verses in the Bible to support restitution, which
conform to what the 15 Born Again Christians did by confessing their
sins and sought restitution from WAEC. In 1 John 1:9 says: “If we
confess our sins, the is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness’’.
While Numbers 5:6-7 says ’’When a man or woman commits any of the sins
that people commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person
realizes his guilt, he shall confess his sin that he has committed. And
he shall make full restitution for his wrong’’. Efforts to get the
names, and perhaps pictures, of the 15 persons were abortive, as WAEC
officials said it would amount to violation of the rights of the
individuals involved and that of their (officials) ethics.
In a related development, the N55th and 56th NEC meeting of WAEC has
hammered 493 candidates who sat for both the May/June and
November/December WASSCE by ordering the cancellation of their
certificates/result slips taken at various periods.
A document available to Saturday Sun reads partly: “The under listed
candidates were confirmed to have been impersonated in the various
examinations and years indicated against them. The result
slips/certificates have been returned by the Zonal/Branch Offices
concerned to the Post Examinations Department for cancellation.’’
A breakdown of the statistics revealed that at the 55th NEC meeting
(result slips and certificates of impersonators in previous GCE/SSC/
WASSC examinations), no fewer than 241 candidates were sanctioned while
at their 56th deliberation (result slips and certificates of
impersonators in previous May/June and November/December WASSC
examinations), a total of 252 candidates had their certificates
cancelled according to the rules and regulations guiding the conductor
of WAEC exams.
A remarkable thing which Saturday Sun noted in the 55th NEC meeting
decision was that the 241 cancelled certificates involved private
candidates who wrote either the Nov/Dec GCE or WASSCE. Thus confirming
stakeholders’ position that exam fraud is more rampart during the
private candidate examinations.
A breakdown of the 241 cancelled certificates revealed that the highest
number occurred in 1998 (34), followed by 1999 and 2001 with 26
certificates each. In 2000, it had 24, 1997 (23), 1995 (22), 2002 (19),
1994 and 1996 each had 15, 2003 (14), 1993 (12), 1987 (3), 2005 (2)
while 1985, 1986, 1991, 2006, 2007 and 2009 had one cancelled
certificate each.
For the 56th NEC decision, again statistics from the document indicate
that majority of the 252 candidates whose certificates were cancelled
sat for the Nov/Dec WASSCE (240) while 12 others wrote the May/June
WASSCE.
Detail breakdown of the 252 cancelled certificates at the 56th NEC
meeting showed that 2009 recorded the highest number with 33, 2002 (26),
2007 (24), 2001 (20), 2008 and 2010 had 18 each, 2000 (17), 2004 (14),
1999, 2003 and 2006 had 13 each, 2011 (10), 1995 (eight), 1990, 1992,
1996, 1998 and 2005 recorded four cancelled certificates each, 1993 and
1997 produced two each and one in 1989.

[EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS] Have You Seen Samuel Eto’o's Cute Son Before? university lecturers under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU, on Sunday insisted that they would not return to the
classrooms on Monday as directed by the federal government.

They
also accused the President Gooodluck Jonathan-led Government of
insincerity in its bid to resolve the 6 months old dispute. ASUU
President, Dr. Nasir Fagge, confirmed their stand to go on with the
strike...
The Federal Government had through the Executive Secretary
of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, deferred
its earlier ultimatum to the lecturers to resume work on Monday (today)
or risk being sacked. The shift was to enable them to participate in the
burial of Prof. Festus Iyayi, a former president of ASUU on Saturday.

Before
this, the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, had advised
the striking lecturers to return to work on or before December 4 or face
dismissal.

But ASUU had in a news bulletin to its chapters after
its meeting in Ekpoma, Edo State on Sunday, said the Federal Government
had not met its conditions for suspending the over five months’ strike.

When
asked by Punch if the members of the union would go back to work today
and if they had confirmed the N200bn the Federal Government claimed to
have deposited in a special account at the Central Bank of Nigeria,
Fagge simply replied, “No to both questions.”

ASUU had in the
bulletin insisted that the government threat to sack its members would
not break the union’s resolve to pursue its action to a logical
conclusion.

A source privy to the meeting, said:
“No Jupiter
will force us to go and teach until all the agreements are documented.
The Federal Government is not sincere. If indeed the authorities have
agreed, why will they be afraid to document what has been agreed upon?

“Let
the vice-chancellors, who can teach, go and do so. But our members are
determined not to sign any attendance register tomorrow (today). The
threat does not bother us, as truth will always supercede deception,
lies and any form of intimidation.”

given to striking university lecturers to resume today or be sacked as
it now gave them till Monday, December 9. This came as
most members of
the Academic Staff Union of Universities remained adamant and vowed to
continue with the strike until their demands were met.

ASUU
president, Dr. Nasir Issa Fagge has also assured that once the
government opens the bank account with N200 billion as requested by the
union, the strike would be suspended.

Asuu-cartoon

Supervising
Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, who announced the shift in the date
for the compulsory resumption of Federal Universities to Monday,
December 9, said it was as a mark of respect for the former National
President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Professor
Festus Iyayi, who died in an auto accident on his way to a National
Executive Committee meeting of ASUU.

Speaking in Abuja,
yesterday, Mr Wike said that the family of the late Professor Iyayi
officially informed the ministry of the burial rites for the late ASUU
President through the National Universities Commission, NUC, on Monday,
hence the shift in the mandatory resumption date.

He said that the Federal Government will fully participate in the burial rites of the former ASUU President.

ate of the compulsory resumption of Federal Universities for academic
activities has been taken as a result of the respect we have for the
former ASUU President”.

Wike stated that the Federal Government
took the decision to re-open the universities in the interest of
Nigerians and not to engender any form of show-down with ASUU.

He
said Nigerians must appreciate the fact that the pro-chancellors and
chairmen of the Federal Universities Governing Councils took the
decision to re-open the schools, pointing out that the Federal
Government’s directive was to the vice-chancellors who are expected to
comply with the directive of the pro-chancellors.

The minister
also said that the Federal Government has already opened a dedicated
account for the revival of infrastructure in the universities, while the
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education has signed the
resolution that the Federal Government will commit N1.3trillion into the
revival of infrastructure in the universities.

He stated that
despite the repeated misrepresentation of facts on the 2009 FGN-ASUU
agreement, the Federal Government had implemented over 80 per cent of
the issues contained in the document, with only the payment of earned
allowances and revitalisation of infrastructure pending.

Complying lecturers to get salary arrears

The
Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC,
Professor Julius Okojie, who briefed journalists in Abuja, yesterday,
said the Federal Government was ready to pay the four-month salary
arrears owed academic staff who returns to work.
According to him: “Councils have been directed to shift the resumption
date to December 9. The new deadline, has already been communicated to
the Pro-Chancellors Tuesday (yesterday) morning.

“The Federal
Government as an employer of labour cannot just fold its arms while the
institutions remain shut and its clients — the students — continue to
suffer.

“You cannot pay someone who has failed to resume work.
You are on strike and you want to be paid. What if some have already
left the system? Some of our very bright lecturers may have got jobs
elsewhere already.”

Okojie noted that “the resumption order does
not necessarily mean students would commence academic activities
immediately but the school environment has to be put back in shape as
reptiles may have taken over some places, and the Senate of each
institution has to revisit the academic calendar. Students would be
expected to resume one or two weeks after the December 9 resumption
deadline,”.

Okojie while responding to several issues raised by
ASUU, insisted that it was a general consensus at the November 4, 2013
meeting with the President to have the Permanent Secretary of the
Education Ministry sign the resolutions reached after the meeting.

Okojie
stressed that the issue of the inclusion of a non-victimization clause
as now demanded by ASUU did not even come up at all during and after the
meeting.

“Jega and Awuzie are past ASUU chairmen. Are they not
holding good positions in Nigeria today? Why would anyone victimize
someone for exercising his right? If anyone would do such a thing, not
the Jonathan government. In fact the mood that day did not reflect such,
we were all smiles and hugs. After that meeting we were all hopeful
that was the end of the crises,” he said.

He wondered why ASUU would return three weeks later, after it had failed to get back to government on November 8 as agreed, and demand addition of new clauses.

He
said: “The 2009 Agreement stipulates that any party that wants a
re-negotiation should inform the Ministry of Labour. If ASUU had said
they would resume, but the outstanding issues must be addressed,
government would have no choice,”.

On the N200 billion
revitalization fund which ASUU is demanding should be disbursed within
two weeks, Okojie diclosed that the money has been deposited in an
account in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“The money cannot, however, be disbursed just anyhow because they are meant for capital projects”, he said.

Okojie again appealed to the striking union to return to work in the interest of students who he described as the victims.

“One
of the universities in Uganda where our children are enrolling,
neigbouring countries do not even accept their degrees. Our children are
going to schools with poorer degrees,” he lamented.

ASUU gives condition for strike suspension

Meanwhile,
the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Dr. Nasir
Issa Fagge, yesterday, gave conditions for the suspension of the six
month old strike. Fagge who spoke on Channels Television, yesterday morning, said once government opens the bank account with N200 billion, requested by the union, the strike would be suspended.

He
said “once that is done, and the committee that is supposed to disburse
the funds starts working, our members will have no reason not to
suspend the strike action”. Dr. Faggie said the union insists on
documentation.

He asked: “Why won’t government make available
this money so that we know the money is there and the universities
commence drawing from this money to address the problem of decay in
infrastructure, teaching and research facilities? When that is done, our
members will suspend the strike.”

The ASUU president dismissed
insinuations in some quarters that the union had been split. On
suggestions in some government quarters that ASUU was being influenced
by opposition parties, Dr. Fagge said “ASUU is a union of cerebral
intellectuals”. He said the union is not influenced by religion, or
ethnicity, saying however that members of the union are free to
associate with any political party of their choice.

UNICAL resumes today

The
University of Calabar has announced that the university resumes today
for academic activities and directed all students who did not finish
their registration to do so immediately.

But Chairman of Academic
Staff Union of Universities, Unical chapter, Dr. James Ekprinya has
warned parents that the university is still on strike and that any one
that releases his ward is doing that at his peril.

The university
in a press release by the Deputy Registrar, Academic division, Mr. Mike
Monity stated that, “Normal Academic/Allied activities will resume
tomorrow, the December 4, 2013 at the University of Calabar.
Monity in a release said the resumption was the decision reached at an
emergency meeting of senate held at the senate chambers of the
Institution.

It further stated that “the decision is in
compliance with the directive issued by the Minister of Education” and
that details of the revised university calendar would be disclosed in
due course.

It also advised students with pending activities like
second semester registration, Final year and Post Graduate research
projects to start immediately as the school works out time table for
lectures.

The ASUU chairman, Dr. Ekpirinya said that the congress
rose from its congress with “a strong resolve to continue the strike
until the agreements are implemented to the letter.

“We did not
close school, we will not re-open it. We warn parents that any one who
decides to send his or her ward to school is doing so at his or her
peril.”

Iyayi: UNIBEN ASUU vows to continue strike

University
of Benin chapter of ASUU, yesterday, vowed to continue the current
strike action and admonished President Goodluck Jonathan to embrace
dialogue with the union rather than threats.

Meanwhile, no sign of resumption of academi

According to a statement by the minister’s Special Assistant, Simeon Nwakaudu: “The decision to shift the d

FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY OWERRI SACKS ENTIRE TEACHING STAFF

The Senate of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has
sacked all academic staff on its payroll with immediate effect on
December 2, 2013, Monday, for failure to return to classrooms.
This
has been confirmed by Mr. Chike Ezenwa, the Public Relations Officers
(PRO) of the institution, in a telephone conversation with the Nigerian
Tribune in Owerri.
According to him, the senate of the university had
declared all the positions of academic staff in the institution, adding
that they would be advertised starting from December 2, 2013, Monday.
The
PRO further explained that the senate council had already compiled the
list of vacant positions in the school, adding that who were willing to
resume would be adequately protected.
As concerns resuming the teaching process, the following press release was issued at FUTO:
The
Senate of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri at its 375th
Extraordinary meeting held on Monday, December 2, 2013 considered the
directive of the Federal Government on resumption of duty by Academic
Staff in Federal Universities and decided that academic activities in
the University should resume immediately for the conclusion of the
2012/2013 Rain Semester.
Consequently all students of the University
are required to return to campus between Monday December 2, and Friday
December 8, 2013 while Rain Semester Examinations commence on Monday
December 9, 2013 and end on Saturday December 21, 2013.
Accordingly,
all academic staff are required to proceed immediately to their
respective Departments to sign in for resumption of duty not later than
Wednesday December 4, 2013.

Signed:
Orje Ishegh-Nor
Registrar/Secretary to the Senate
However,
the FUTO branch of ASUU said any attempt to break their ranks would be
strongly resisted by their members. The Monday’s communiqué urged
members to ignore the resumption notice by FUTO management, adding that
the branch would not engage in any academic activities until the Federal
Government committed itself to implementing the ASUU-FGN agreement.
“Don’t Risk The Lives Of Your Children And Wards, Keep Them At Home” – ASUU Tells Parents
President Goodluck Jonathan literally
disowned the seven-day ultimatum to striking university lecturers to
return to work, yesterday, saying the Committee of Vice Chancellors
(CVC) issued the deadline.

According to him, the supervising minister of education, Mr. Nyeson Wike, only made the ultimatum public.

The ultimatum, which began counting last Thursday, ends on Wednesday.
Jonathan, also, yesterday, described the ASUU prolonged strike as subversive.

The industrial action, which started on July 1, enters the sixth month today.

“We didn’t give them ultimatum. It was
the committee of Vice Chancellors that took that decision. The
supervising minister of education only passed on the decision. What
ASUU is doing is no longer trade dispute but subversive action”, the
president said.

Saying, however, that government will
consult on the deadline to ASUU members, he said, “So that we will not
be perceived to be insensitive, we will consult on the deadline”.

Jonathan spoke, yesterday, while
responding to an appeal by a former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief DSP
Alamieyeseigha, that government should reconsider its ultimatum to the
ASUU members to return to work or be sacked.

Alamieyeseigha made his plea at Bayelsa
State Government House, Yenagoa, during a meeting of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) state caucus.

According to the President, “What ASUU
is doing is no longer trade union. I have intervened in other labour
issues before now, once I invite them they respond and after the meeting
they take decision and call off the strike. Atimes we don’t even give
them a long notice unlike in the case of ASUU that were given four days
notice before the meeting.

As you are meeting to resolve trade
disputes, you expect the trade unions to get their officials ready, what
was expected having met with the highest authority in the land for long
hours, was for ASUU to immediately issue statement within 12 or latest
24 hours to state their position whether they were accepting
government’s offer or not. And if they are not accepting they state the
reason why.

”But despite the fact that I had the
longest meeting with ASUU in my political history, we did not start that
meeting until around 2 p.m. and the meeting ended the next day in the
early hours of the morning. As far as the government of Nigeria was
concern all the critical people that should be in a meeting were there,
so what else do they want?

”After that they didn’t meet until one
week, despite the fact that you met with the highest authority. It was
unfortunate one of them, Prof. Iyayi died.

”The way ASUU has conducted the matter
shows they were extreme and when iyayi died they now said the strike was
now indefinite, our children have been at home for over five months”.

President Jonathan also thanked the Bayelsa people for their prayers and support while he fell ill in London.

He emphasised the need for party
faithful to be united, stressing that the key to political success was
the unity of the people and that divided people bring about a lot of
issues.

In his remarks, Governor Seriake Dickson
commended Jonathan’s deep interest in the state caucus and making out
time despite his tight schedule to be part of it, where issues
affecting the party are discussed and solutions found.

Govt has done enough for ASUU – UNIJOS VC
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Jos, Prof. Hayard
Mafuyai, yesterday, said the Federal Government has done enough and even
shown commitment for ASUU to call-off the strike.

The VC spoke while answering questions
from journalists at the end of the year dinner and award night of UNIJOS
80-85 Alumni Group in Abuja.
He said the challenges facing the education sector in the country over
the decades cannot be corrected overnight, so ASUU should call-off the
strike.

“We just met with the Supervising
Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and we have been appealing to
our colleagues and ASUU to do what we believe should be done, that is to
call off the strike,” Mafuyai said.
”I think the Federal Government has done enough to move the education
sector forward as the ills of many decades cannot be corrected overnight
and we should listen to the mood of the nation to call-off the strike
in the overall public interest”.

When he was asked about the security
situation in Jos and how it has affected University of Jos, he blamed
the media for poor reportage and how it is adversely affecting
socio-economic development of the university and Plateau State.

‘Threat won’t end strike’
In a related development, students affected by the ASUU strike say threat would not end the impasse.
The National Coordinator, Education Rights Campaign (ERC), Hassan
Soweto, who spoke on the ultimatum to ASUU, said threat will only worsen
the situation. “If the FG goes ahead with the threat, then ASUU, the
trade union movement and civil society organisations should be expected
to respond with nationwide mass protest and demonstrations,” Soweto
said.
Victor Samuel, a law student of Ekiti State University, also reacting,
said: “With the assertion of the Federal Government, should it sound as
if we rule by positivist theory? This is just a barking from the
government as it would make no appreciative effort but make the
situation more critical.”
Adeola Oluwatayo, a 300 level journalism student of LASU, said the
threat won’t end the strike, but rather make the lecturers adamant.
Emmanuel Eca, a final year student, University of Calabar saw the
threat by government as an empty one because it has failed in it’s
responsibility. “The question to ponder over is why the FG has continued
in reneging on its agreements? They could have averted the strike in
the first place by keeping to the terms of the agreement. They should
stop playing with our future.”
Another student, Macaulay Adeleye, went political in his reaction when
he said: “The threat by the Federal Government won’t materialize at the
end of the day due to the fact that it is not all institutions that can
embark on such a step and overwhelm the lecturers.”
Going by the threat, ASUU said it was evident that the Federal
Government was not ready to implement the agreement it reached with
the union.
The treasurer of the union, Dr. Ademola Aremu, said government would
only succeed in wasting the time of Nigerians and the youths in the
country if it failed to perfect the agreement.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr
Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered immediate provision of adequate security
in and around university campuses nationwide.

This is contained in a statement issued by CSP Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, on

Thursday in Abuja.

The statement said the measure was
designed to secure life and property in the institutions and provide
enabling environment for lecturers, students and other members of staff
to go about their lawful businesses without hindrance.

“The directive is a proactive and
confidence-boosting measure designed to ensure that nothing untoward
happens in our academic communities,” it said.

The statement directed all Command
Commissioners of Police to personally oversee the intensification of
surveillance in universities in their states.

It ordered them to “take all necessary
security measures needed to provide for the safety and security of
members of staff and students as well as property within the various
Campuses”.

It urged lecturers, students and
Nigerians within the institutions to remain law-abiding and go about
their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation or intimidation
from any quarters.

It will be recalled that the Federal
Government on Thursday gave universities lecturers, who had been on
strike since July, one week ultimatum to resume academic activities.

Meanwhile, the I-G has urged officers
and men of the force, who would be involved in the supplementary
election in Anambra supplementary election on Saturday to remain
steadfast.

He said they should be focused and neutral, as well as exhibit the highest level of professionalism.

He reassured the people of adequate
security in the state during the election, promising that the force
would continue to maintain optimal presence in Anambra till the end of
the election.

The police boss called on the people to
cooperate with the police and other security agencies in ensuring an
atmosphere of peace and order throughout the election.

Abubakar also urged politicians,
traditional rulers, and opinion leaders in the state to play by the
rules and help in educating their followers on the need to allow INEC
and other government agencies to conclude the election. (NAN)

This
is not hearsay or rumour o...it's fact! BBA The Chase contestants
Beverly Osu and Bimp from Ethiopia are dating. They currently live
together at a temporarily place in Lekki. Bimp is planning to to stay in
Nigeria for good if all his plans go well. He will return to Ethiopia
tomorrow while Beverly goes to South Africa for the Channel O awards but
as soon as she returns to Nigeria, Bimp will return to his love. I hear
they are totally mad for each other! Go Bev! This is a hotter catch
than Angelo!
