Her performance and vocal prowess have also been compared to those of Chrisette Michelle, and Alicia Keys. Dela’s love for music started at the tender age of seven and led to her joining her church choir.

In both primary and high school, she nurtured her talent as an active choir member which flowed into the beginnings of her musical career.

To enhance her experience base, Dela diversified and has since provided background vocals for MAMA award winner Wahu, KORA award winner Achieng Abura, KISIMA award winner Didge, Stan, Chizi, Wendy Kimani and many others.

She has performed at various events like Blankets and Wine, Tusker Project Fame, Idols, Sawa Sawa Festival, WAPI, Spoken Word and Love as both a solo artist and as a background vocalist.

In addition to her diverse local presence, in August and September of 2009, Dela was a featured artiste on the New East African European tour organized by Penya Africa whose circuit included Netherlands, Sweden and UK.

The inspiring lyrical content of her debut album ‘Paukwa’ caught the attention of the UN Habitat who approached her to work with UN Habitat Messengers of Truth.

This saw Dela tour Istanbul where she played at the Youth Congress with young people from all over the world.

At only 19, her breakthrough collaboration with Kenya’s popular boy band Sauti Sol saw her song ‘Mama Papa’ retaining the number one spot on the chart for a record 18 weeks on Kenya’s most popular radio station Metro FM.

The success of her single led her to be signed by record label Penya and in 2009 producer Wawero ‘Wawesh’ Kiboy. ‘Paukwa’ fuses diverse elements of Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, Techno, and Reggae.

An activist by nature, Dela chose to explore the politics of Africa, openly criticizing politicians and their greed; high youth unemployment, as well as the need for action against poverty.

Her first single, ‘Ulivyo’, was Funk/Techno inspired and was the first fusion of its kind to go mainstream.

With record popular hits on local radio and TV, this single earned the title ‘beat of the week’ on Kenyan TV and is still on rotation on Pan African TV - MTV Base and Channel O.

This and other collaborations continue to earn this genre of experimental Afro -Soul its place on mainstream media in Kenya.

Signals from Nigeria indicate that East African musicians are dominating Nigeria’s Elisha Baza Charts show.

The Elisha Baza show is an award-winning and world-class Nigeria chart show where Africa’s largest music countdown on radio is held.

There is no doubt that Africa music has risen constantly; but last week’s chart placed East African music stars who, through much hard work, are fighting their way to the top ahead of the rest.

With star performances all over Africa and at the Big Brother Africa Stargame, CHAT award winner and BET award nominee Camp Mulla from Kenya, Alikiba and Laydee Jaydee from Tanzania, Maurice Kirya from Uganda, Wyre and Sauti Sol from Kenya all made their presence felt on last week’s fiercely contested charts.

Nigerian music stars were also strong contenders on last week’s chart with Iyanya and Dare climbing with their songs ‘Kurukere’ and ‘Asiko’ respectively, and the azonto rave is not over yet with Fuse ODG feat tiffany and Donae’o representing Ghana.

The week’s new entry was by South African group-Teargas with their song ‘Go Away’.

Elisha Baza Show is Africa’s largest music chart on radio, aired in several African countries and can be heard in Nigeria every Saturday on Raypower FM Network.

A fortnight ago, top Ghanaian actress Yvonne Okoro took time off her busy schedule to join her family to celebrate her big brother, Raymond Okoro’s birthday.

A private party was organized for Raymond at the Fahrenheit Night Club at the Airport Residential Area in Accra on August 3, the same night Yvonne rocked the red carpet at the launching of Showbiz Honours at Holiday Inn hotel.

The Okoro family and friends were at the club in their numbers to show love to their brother.

NEWS-ONE had access to some of the exclusive pictures of the party. It looked like a big, glamorous and expensive party with less media coverage. Sources said it was full of excitement.

Besides the fun and excitement in popping Champagnes, the photos portrayed a unified Okoro family.

They looked united than any other extended family on earth.

The Okoro family is a large one. Yvonne Okoro is the first child of her mum’s three children and fifth born of all siblings put together.

“For me it will probably be my family. My family is the most important thing to me. They are my rock.

For me it is just my family because without them, I won’t be here.

They are so supportive. They are like my support system in everything I do, not just in acting.

My mum and my sisters are my best friends. That woman is great mum ever so are my sisters,” Yvonne once said in one of her Nigerian media interviews.

“The delectable actress cum movie producer married one big time business consultant identified as Alaka.

He is said to be a very connected man,” nigeriailms.com reported.

The actress, the reports said, had also moved into her hubby’s multi-million Naira mansion located in Lekki, Lagos.

Lilian has been very scarce on the movie screens these days.

Since her movie premiere in mid 2011, Lilian has been off the scene.

Though she was at Shan George’s movie premiere in May 2012, the hype was not around her, especially with her public appearance after a long absence.
