Kate is very lucky to be surrounded by lots of friends and a loving family, as they all celebrated and welcomed her to the Christian community. I along, with my son, De’Angelo, who gladly assisted me, are blessed to have witnessed, her joyous event.

I am proud of my son Aaron for taking the initiative in asking a girl out to the prom. In fact, I am proud of both of them for acting like a young adults. It is rare for youths to act as one nowadays. My son is not a jock, he is not one of the popular kids in school. Thank goodness that we are not rated in being popular, but of how we navigate in and through life that counts.

On this particular shoot, I wanted to go back to basics by using natural lighting, and try as much, as possible capturing natural emotions, and allowing ambient lighting to aid me in creating a story.

I have been feeling so uninspired lately, and I haven’t been able to pick up my camera for so long. Haven’t felt like taking pictures, nor retouching. The feeling is overwhelming, I feel as though, as I have not accomplished anything and I am just riding on the band wagon.

When, I retouched the photo of Cody Lee, a “Look Model Agency” represented model here in San Francisco, bay area. I realized that this is what I wanted to do and do more of it, I have done tons of this style in the past, but felt as thought, I’m not mixing the right ingredients.

I decided to do a simple retouch, maybe that’s it! Go simple and keep it consistent, but then in the back of my mind, I asked “What good, will that be?” then I saw myself fighting an inner “Resistance” that is keeping me from stepping-up to a new level. The feeling of emptiness is time consuming. I’ve wasted more time searching for my next look, but it is nowhere to be found.

Recently, we have this group in the Bay Area, called the “Spanks” A group of fellow artist (photographers, MUA, models and friends of friends) we go out and have our monthly get-together, they got me inspired and one inspired me more, when he told me “Just do you”

Today, I received 18 messages from the “Fstoppers” community, wanting to see my workflow and old friends, asking of what happened to me. Even though, I was only off for 3 weeks away from the usual.

Sun Kiss workflow has flooded the social media from flickr to facebook, this look has been quite popular. I rendered this photo last year, but have not had the chance to show this workflow. I am now in the stage, where I get annoyed by other retouchers, when you ask a question of how to do stuff and in return tells you to “Ohhh, I did it with lots of layers and it took me a long time” — What kind of an answer is that?

Knowledge is free and techniques should be shared, why? Because in my opinion, no matter how much an artist shares it will still remain as a learned fragments from other artist that he or she learned from, modified to fit his and her own interpretation(s) so, when we keep a certain knowledge for ourselves it will not have a chance to grow and flourish. Just an opinion..

I’m not going to explain further into what goes into this workflow, because color and I do not have a sound relationship in terms of determining what color compliments another color. I am working by feel and look to what I think looks best for the photo, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is my personal interpretation to the workflow called “Sun Kiss”

Supplementary hindsight to the dodging and burning workflow, I am constantly working changing the size of my brush in relation to the area that I am working. Chris Tarantino has discussed in Retouched Pro where he uses a simplified method and that is by dodging and burning on a blank layer, using the original skin tones of the model. Since colors and I does not have a sound relationship, the curves method suffice my own personal workflow.

The bond that Beauty Mark Ink and her crew has been a blessing in many aspects, we not only grown to just wanting the piece of the pie, but we vowed to have the whole pie this 2012. Over in the course of time, we have created and collected lots of images, ranging from beauty to bridal and conceptual art. Vanessa the CEO of Beauty Mark Ink is really great in putting and formulating a photo shoot that, I on the other hand, am pampered when it comes to logistics, but I always make it up to her by providing her, with a solid photographic workflow, as well, as a top notch final product.
