Entwickelt wird SnipSnap vom <a href="http://www.first.fraunhofer.de/snipsnap">Fraunhofer Institut FIRST</a> und ist dementsprechend als OpenSource Forschungsprojekt zu betrachten. Als Lizenz kommt die GPL zu Anwendung, aber in Zukunft werden wohl auch <a href="http://snipsnap.org/space/start/2004-10-13/1#SnipSnap_%28%E3%82%B9%E3%83%8B%E3%83%83%E3%82%A4%E3%83%97%E3%82%B9%E3%83%8A%E3%83%83%E3%83%97%29_visits_Japan">kommerzielle Feature</a> zur Verfügung stehen. <br /> <br /><img src="http://snipsnap.org/space/SnipSnap/config/snipsnap-logo.png" border="0" /> <br /> <br />Die Philosophie von SnipSnap lässt sich leicht beschreiben, denn jede Information, die in SnipSnap abgelegt werden kann, ist ein so genannter <span style="font-weight: bold;">Snip</span>. Snips können also sowohl Benutzer, Weblog-Einträge, Navigationselemente von SnipSnap, Kommentare oder normale Wiki-Seite darstellen. Außerdem ist es möglich Snips mit Hilfe von <span style="font-weight: bold;">Labels</span>, Meta-Daten zu zuweisen, d.h. Snips können z.B. einer Kategorie zu geordnet werden und so in einen bestimmten Informationskontext gestellt werden. Dies macht SnipSnap in der Anwendung, wie ich finde, sehr flexibel und bietet damit individuell definierte Einsatzmöglichkeiten. <br /> <br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Installation</span> <br />Standardmäßig bringt SnipSnap alles mit was man braucht, um es einsetzen zu können (siehe <a href="http://snipsnap.org/space/snipsnap-DOWNLOAD">Download</a>). Die Installation ist recht einfach und geht meist problemlos vonstatten (siehe <a href="http://snipsnap.org/space/Install">Installation</a> + <a href="http://snipsnap.org/space/FAQ">FAQ</a>). Unregelmäßigkeiten können eigentlich nur entstehen, wenn man die gegebenen Möglichkeiten einer andere Datenbank (z.B. <a href="http://snipsnap.org/space/SnipSnap+on+MySQL">MySQL</a>) oder eines anderen Java-Application-Servers (z.B. <a href="http://snipsnap.org/space/Snipsnap+and+Tomcat">Tomcat</a>) nutzt. Das verwendete Betriebssystem spielt keine bedeutende Rolle, d.h. SnipSnap lässt sich unter den allgemein üblichen Betriebssystemen (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows) installieren. Der Installationsprozess bzw. die Konfiguration wird in einem Web-Interface durchgeführt und bietet eine ganze Reihe von Einstellungsmöglichkeiten, die man auch zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt bequem ändern kann. <br /> <br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Anwendung</span> <br />Wie bereits erwähnt, ist die Anwendung von SnipSnap recht flexibel und reicht von einem normalen Community-Wiki über ein persönliches Weblog bis hin zur einer Wissensmanagementumgebung (siehe <a href="http://snipsnap.org/space/Use+Cases">SnipSnap UseCases</a>). Bliki. Allerdings gilt auch bei SnipSnap, wie in so vielen OpenSource Projekten, <span style="font-style: italic;">"written by geeks, for geeks"</span>. Dies erkennt man nicht nur an den Usability-Eigenschaften oder der Dokumentation sondern auch an der Community, die sich auf <a href="http://www.snipsnap.org/">SnipSnap.org</a> versammelt. Die Hauptanwender findet sich deshalb wohl auch im Bereich der Software-Entwicklung wieder. Nichtsdestotrotz lässt sich SnipSnap produktiv und als vollwertiges Bliki einsetzen und bietet durch verschiedene Forschungsaktivitäten, die rundum SnipSnap durchgeführt werden, eine interessante Zukunftsperspektive.
