Chronic fatigue has to be dealt with, because lethargy may lead to immobility, which may cause many health problems down the road.

Chronic fatigue is the 7th most common health complaint. As a matter of fact, many people suffering from chronic fatigue simply do not report to their physicians, and many falsely believe that chronic fatigue is part of growing old, or just one of the many unpleasant facts of life.

Chronic fatigue is different from physical weakness, which generally improves after resting. But chronic fatigue is extreme exhaustion of the body and the mind. The good news is that chronic fatigue can be cured:

(1) Health and wellness: It is important to improve health and general wellness in order to overcome chronic fatigue. Many diseases and health conditions, such as arthritis, heart disease, and neurological disorders, may reduce physical inactivity, which perpetuates the fatigue. Medications, such as antihistamines, sedatives, and antidepressants, induce lethargy and sleep. Therefore, the Number One priority is to keep yourself in good health. Find out what you can do to improve men's health and women's health from my website: The Art of Living Well.

(2) Stress control: Stress, from finance, relationships, and health, may drain your adrenal glands (hormone glands) and deplete your body of B vitamins and other vital nutrients required to energize your body. Good stress management (in particular, efficient time management) keeps fatigue away. Visit my blog: Cope With Stress.

(3) Eating right: Always eat wholesome foods that give you a natural life energy boost: whole grain bread, whole grain cereals; legumes; root vegetables; nuts and seeds. Research shows that eating fatty foods, such as bacon and sausages, for breakfast can leave you feeling tired, sluggish, and lacking in energy throughout the morning. Avoid empty-calorie foods, such as sugar.

(4) Meditation and relaxation: Meditation is the most effective way to relax the body and the mind. Relaxation techniques are easy to learn. Go to my web page: How To Meditate. Meditation and relaxation lead to restful sleep, without medications.

(5) Exercise: Physical activity is the antidote to chronic fatigue. The more tired you are, the less you would want to exercise, and the worse the fatigue would become. Exercise not only boosts your energy storage and production, but also enhances oxygen consumption within your muscle cells. As you age, you may be inclined to exercise less. However, there are many types of exercise catered for different levels of energy: you can workout while you sit, you can do treadmill at your desk, and the exercise options are numerous. Go to my web page: Physical Exercise for All to find out everything you need to know about keeping yourself physically active to cure chronic fatigue.
Irrespective of the type and form, pain signals that there is something wrong with the body.

Despite the advancement of science, modern medicine has not been too successful in dealing with pain or eradicating pain completely and naturally. This is one of the major reasons why many people turn to alternative medicine or integrative medicine to get the best of both worlds to bring out the most effective pain treatment.

It must be understood that chronic pain is more complex than short-term acute pain. Chronic pain or persistent pain, often involving physical and psychological factors, requires a holistic approach to its treatment, and therefore it is more appropriate than the conventional Western approach using drug therapy and pain specialists to improve pain tolerance.

Alternative medicine or integrative medicine offers many treatment options, which are less invasive and more natural:

Massage therapy is a complementary treatment to alleviate chronic pain by reducing the local muscle tension, thereby decreasing the intensity of pain sensations. Couple Massage Secrets shows you how to master partner massage techniques.

Aromatherapy is another common therapeutic treatment of chronic pain, used in conjunction with massage. Aromatherapy uses essential oils not only to stimulate the relaxation of muscles but also to promote the release of endorphins (chemicals to male you feel good).

Acupuncture uses needles to stimulate acupoints to unblock the blockage of "qi" (internal life energy). Blockage or stagnation of "qi" is the source of body pain. In addition, acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, thus diminishing the sensations of chronic pain.

Hydrotherapy is to use heated water to ease chronic pain and muscle tension.

Hypnosis is a mind therapy in which pain perceptions are altered, thereby instrumental in controlling pain. Mind Force is a master system using hypnosis, attraction, esoteric meditation, and psychic energy to change pain perceptions.

Visualization is the use of guided imagery to distract the mind from chronic pain sensations. Use Creative Visualization to overcome pain and get what you want.

Given that chronic pain is both physical and psychological, the treatment options provided by alternative medicine or integrative medicine seem to have greater potential in reducing chronic pain than the conventional Western treatment using pharmaceutical drugs.

Arthritis pain is no more than joint inflammation.

The Arthritis Foundation recommends aspirin as one of the medications to treat arthritis pain. The down side of taking aspirin is that, with increased dosage, aspirin may cause many side effects, including nausea, stomach pain, and impaired hearing.

There are other medications, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and corticosterioids. But, again, these drugs are not only harmful but also have adverse side effects.

The bottom line: for holistic health and healing, stay away from toxic pharmaceutical drugs as much as possible.

Chinese medicine uses medical wisdom to treat rheumatoid arthritis. This medical wisdom avoids the use of drugs. Essentially, it uses a simple diet of fish, vegetables, and rice, with a small amount of chicken. This diet is also known as the "poor man's diet"—and it is very effective against arthritis pain.

Given that arthritis is joint inflammation related to allergic relations to foods, it makes sense to use your diet to control your arthritis pain. An allergen is a substance that produces an antibody within the body. These allergen symptoms become arthritis pain. It is not just what you eat but it is what you do not eat that counts.

Common food triggers of arthritis pain include all dairy products, all citrus fruits, chocolate, corn and wheat, and red wine. There are many other foods that may cause allergen reactions in different individuals. Anti-inflammatory foods include beans, fruits (except citrus fruits), flax seed oil, and wheat germ. Pain-free foods include brown rice, vegetables (except tomato).

If needs be, take herbs instead of dangerous drugs. Relatively, herbs are more natural and less toxic than dangerous drugs prescribed by doctors or obtained over the counter.

Some herbs are true medications. As a matter of fact, many of the most effective medications today have herbs as their main ingredients. For example, Digoxin, one of the most popular medications to treat heart disease has the foxglove plant as one of its main ingredients; some anti-cancer medications contain Madagascar periwinkle and the Pacific yew, which are herbs.

Many people have the misconception that herbs have no medicinal values because the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not approve them; or rather they are not regulated by the FDA. But medicinal potency and regulations are two separate issues.

Naturally, quality control of herbs or herbal supplements is often a concern. For a natural herb to be efficacious, it must contain proven ingredients in the proper doses and potencies with strict manufacturing procedures. Unfortunately, the FDA does not regulate the production of herbal supplements. This has led many people to mistrust the use of herbs, and to believe that pharmaceutical drugs are safe because they have been approved by the FDA.

However, even with strict control and regulations, many prescription drugs are far from safe. It is not uncommon for pharmaceutical companies to "influence" researchers through coercion, incentive, and even threat to produce the desired results in clinical trials of some of those dangerous drugs. Clinical trials of drugs, usually involving a small number of people, may not truly reflect the outcome or the safety of those who will ultimately be using some of those dangerous drugs after their approval by the FDA. .There are many dangerous drugs approved by the FDA that have turned out to be fatal, involving many lawsuits. A case in point, recently, a federal jury has ordered Mutual Pharmaceutical Co. to pay $21 million to a woman who was blinded and scarred in an adverse reaction to an anti-inflammatory drug.

Remember, pharmaceutical drugs are toxic chemicals. Although they may be effective in temporarily removing undesirable symptoms of a disease, the dangerous medication side effects may inhibit any self-healing process. As a matter of fact, medication side effects may worsen the symptoms of a disease due to their toxic nature. So, to live long, stop dangerous drugs to begin the self-healing process.

Yes, the body is equipped with a built-in mechanism that can bring about the self-healing process. But such self-healing process is possible only when the body is free from toxins. Therefore, internal body cleanse is a must not only to remove the toxins from the dangerous drugs but also to initiate the self-healing process.

Master Cleanse Secrets 10 Day Diet

In this 10-day internal cleansing program, you will find out how to prepare yourself before the internal cleanse, and what to do during and after the cleanse. Most importantly, you will know how to continually maintain your internal cleansing long after the program.

The program does not require willpower (something that many people do not possess) to go through this difficult program (if it was easy, everybody would be doing it) to achieve complete wellness. It requires only 10 days!

It stops internal inflammation, which is often the chief source of body aches and pain. It normalizes the hormone levels to give energy and stamina to the body for rejuvenation. It eliminates extra pounds for sustainable weight loss by eliminating foul smelling internal mucus and compacted fecal material that sticks to your insides sapping your health and vitality.

Only natural foods are healing foods. This is one good reason why you should eat naturally. The food industry is forever coming up with new products that do not make you healthy. To be healthy, you must eat whole foods and eat naturally.

Due to the many health problems related trans fat, the food industry has ingeniously come up with another “man-made” fat to replace the now-unpopular trans fat. This new process of making fat is called “interesterification,” which is a chemical process of making butter-like products from liquid vegetable oils. This chemical process uses enzymes to alter the molecular structure of a vegetable oil so as to give it the properties of a fat. Simply, it involves adding enzymes to a batch of vegetable oil to separate a triglyceride molecule into a glycerol and 3 fatty acids, and through the process of hydrogenation, the vegetable oils become hardened. Trans fat is bad enough, but interesterified fat is not any better. It may well be a case of “jumping from the frying pan into the fire.”

Some preliminary testing already indicates that interesterified oils have the same health risks as trans fat.

Currently, there is no legislation covering interesterification, and the food industry takes advantage of this to make you believe that the “vegetable oil” you see on food labels of cakes, biscuits, and other food products are “healthy” ingredients.

No matter what is said on the food label, processed food is unnatural food. The more ingredients you find on any food label, the unhealthier it is for you. Eat natural whole foods.

If you have lost your mind, living then becomes an existence, not a way of life. Your mind is the hardware of your whole being because it affects your personality, feelings, and behaviors--essentially, it is the seat of your perceptions and experiences.

Unfortunately, the mind, like any other body organs, may deteriorate through aging, disease, or simply misuse. If you don’t take good care of your brain, you will eventually lose your mind.

"I fear I am not in my perfect mind." Shakespeare, King Lear

To avoid losing your mind, you must keep your brain healthy. Maintain optimum brain health throughout your life. Your brain health has everything to do with your heart health. Remember, what is good for your heart is also good for your head. Some of the strongest evidence linking brain health to heart health is that your heart pumps about 20 percent of your blood to your brain, where billions of brain cells are nourished by oxygen and nutrients from your blood. So, if your heart is clogged, your brain will be deprived of its oxygen and nutrients.

But the physical health of your brain alone may not prevent you from losing your mind. In order not to lose your mind, you must also consider the mental aspects of your brain. Remember, your brain, as a seat of your thoughts, may positively or negatively affect how you think and subsequently the choices you make in your life. You are the total sum of all the choices that you make throughout your life.

Your deep limbic system, which is near the center of your brain, may positive or negatively affect the mental state of your mind. An overactive deep limbic system may make you do the following:

You look back at the past, and you feel regret—you ruminate over what you should or should not have done.

You look at the present, and you feel dissatisfaction—now that the prime of your life is over, and what is left is the lack and the inadequacy.

You look at the future, and you feel anxiety—what lies ahead is pessimism and uncertainty.

The only way to heal your deep limbic system is to change your moment-to-moment thought patterns. To do this, you have to understand that your thoughts are real, not imaginary. But you also have to understand that when you have a thought, it sends electrical signals to your brain, which releases chemicals affecting how your brain thinks and functions. Therefore, it is important that you become more aware of your own thinking. This awareness can help you change your perceptions of your thoughts. For example, if you become angry, notice how your physiology changes, such as muscle tension and rapid heartbeats; when you are happy, notice how your body responds with a smile. Train yourself to notice the differences in your deep limbic system and your different bodily reactions to these different thoughts under different conditions and circumstances.
As you get older, it is especially important that you can tap into the pure positive energy, which is innate in you, to re-discover your full potentials.
According to the Chinese health system, disease diagnosis is important from the standpoint of not only healing but also preventing disease. In Western medicine, disease diagnostic approach is mostly about taking tests to confirm the medical opinions of the doctors.

Chinese medicine is about taking and evaluating the data of a patient in terms of "yin" and "yang" as well as "excess and deficiency" with respect to balance and harmony. Chinese disease diagnostic approach is holistic and comprehensive because it aims at finding out not only the causes but also the underlying patterns of disharmony, thereby instrumental in promoting cures as well as preventing relapses in the future.

In the past, disease diagnosis was based on the environment, the social factors, and the conditions of the patient, including his or her lifestyle. Accordingly, disease diagnosis was detailed and comprehensive. As a matter of fact, in the old days, a Chinese physician would not be remunerated if the patient had relapses, because it would be a reflection of the physician's incompetency and oversight in taking care of the patient.

In Chinese medicine today, although disease diagnostic approach has been much simplified, disease diagnosis still begins with data collection through observing, asking, listening, and touching.

The first level of visual inspection and observation is at the intensity of shen or spirit, which is the spirit of the body, manifested in the consciousness, personality, intellect, and other abstract qualities. Shen disharmony may be reflected in confused or distorted thinking, heavy body motion, dull and slow response, insomnia, and other mental and psychological disorders and problems. On the other hand, good eye contact, clear skin, and healthy complexion of the patient suggest good shen. The presence or lack of shen attests to the balance or disharmony of yin and yang.

The second visual diagnosis is the examination of the colors associated with the internal organs on the surface of the skin, such as red for the heart, green for the liver, yellow for the spleen, white for the lungs, and black for the kidneys. Chinese medical doctors look for specific places in the body to identify the colors associated with different body organs; for example, the skin under the eyes, the temples, the skin by the nose, the lips, and the forearms are strategic areas to identify colors for disease diagnosis.

The most important visual observation is that of the tongue. For centuries, Chinese physicians have extensively observed the size and shape (e.g. long or short; swollen or thin; cracked or smooth), the contour, the margins, and the color of the tongue to determine the presence of disease and the overall health of an individual. To illustrate, the coating of the tongue may indicate the absence or presence of body fluids (stomach fluids): a thick coating on the tongue may suggest that body fluids are sluggish and disease may be imminent; a thick white coat is considered normal and indicative of a relative fluid balance; a blackish coat may reflect internal imbalance.

Another disease diagnosis is asking specific questions regarding the lifestyle of the patient, such as his or her appetite, diet, digestion, elimination, sweat, sleep, energy level, exercise, and sexual activity, among others.

Listening and smelling are other unobtrusive methods of disease diagnostic approach in Chinese medicine. The sound of voice and quality of speech may indicate the health conditions of the patient.

Touching is based on the fact that the pulse is a major index of the body's internal health. In Chinese medicine, there are twenty-eight types of pulses, according to their speed, width, length, rhythm. The abnormalities of the pulse indicate weakness or excess of qi , which is internal life energy in different body organs.

In Western medicine, doctors look for one single point where disease begins, and treatment is applied to remove or suppress the symptoms associated with the disease. The diagnostic approach of Chinese medicine is much more comprehensive and extensive in that the diagnosis aims at finding an underlying pattern of disharmony, and identifying the organ and meridian that are the culprits, thereby instrumental in eradicating the symptoms and curing the disease.

If there were no disease, no healing would be necessary. Unfortunately, being sick is an unpleasant, nonetheless inevitable, experience. But all human experiences carry a value and a purpose. Zen--the Eastern philosophy--shows a way through that unpleasant experience, rather than a way out. When you are sick, you have an opportunity to look deep inside you, to ask some soul-searching questions, such as, why did you get sick?--in other words, finding the roots of your health problem.

The first stage of any healing process--whether it is a physical or an emotional one--is to experience the unpleasant experience. By deeply experiencing the pain, you may empower yourself with self-knowledge to avoid the pain in the future. In particular, with respect to emotional healing, allowing yourself to experience an emotional pain, old traumas, you may get some form of self-healing that can create liberating from within. On the other hand, avoding the pain through the use of medications to suppress the symptoms of disease may make the pain go away temporarily, but at the expense of making the pain come back with a vengeance.

The second stage of the healing process is to release the painful experiences. Your subconscious mind is a repository of all records of past experiences. These past experiences consume you, and whatever you do at present or in the future may be negatively affected by these unpleasant memories. For example, if you were taunted while making a speech, you may have second thoughts about making another one in the future. After experiencing whatever you need to experience, you are then able to release whatever you need to release. If you pay detached attention to your experiences, you are already creating a release of some sort for those experiences; as a matter of fact, self-knowing creates a release in itself.

The third stage of the healing process is to share the painful experiences with others close to you; this is just another way of releasing your experiences or pent-up emotions.

Once you have released the trapped energy within you, then you may become whole within yourself, and re-connected to your inner self, and thus initiates the healing process.

The word “ginseng” literally means crystallization of the essence of the earth (“shen”) in the form of a man (“jen”). The name itself attests to the importance of ginseng among herbs. As a matter of fact, in the herbal kingdom, ginseng is the king of herbs due to its holistic-healing potency; that is to say, it treats the body as a whole. Ginseng is an anti-aging herb because it keeps the body balanced and healthy; it is the essence of health and longevity.

According to Chinese medicine, ginseng brightens your eyes, opens your heart, enlightens your brain, and strengthens your soul and spirit. This anti-aging herb has been used in China for many centuries, and its potency has been vindicated by many classical prescriptions. Chinese soldiers used to carry ginseng to the battlefield, using it not only to restore strength, but also to ameliorate the effects of shock and stress in combat.

In Chinese medicine, ginseng is noted for its adjusting, preventive, and restorative potency, in particular as a potent stimulant. Its potency has been recognized worldwide. For example, ginseng was used by Soviet astronauts as a preferred stimulant to the amphetamines used by the American counterparts in space expedition, because ginseng enhances performance without the hangover effects of amphetamines. In addition, Soviet coaches and trainers have long used ginseng to enhance the performance of athletes in training, even for the Olympic games. To evaluate its potency, the Chinese even went to the extent of using two runners, each biting a piece of ginger root in the mouth, to run a race to see who did not display any body fatigue, thereby determining the potency of the ginseng root. Similar studies were conducted in the Soviet Union and in other countries worldwide to confirm the potency of ginseng as a short-term stimulant.
It is quite common practice for Chinese to give ginseng root to those on their deathbed to provide adequate strength to be able to receive their family and arrange their after-death affairs before dying. Ginseng is a potent short-term stimulant that does no harm. In addition to its health benefits for the immune system, ginseng also stimulates the nervous system and enhances the reflex.

IBS is a disorder of the intestines, resulting in pain, bloating, gassiness, and changes in bowel movements.

The Chinese approach to IBS is based on the concept of balance and harmony between yin and yang. In Chinese medicine, the liver not only stores the blood but also regulates the amount of blood in circulation. Hence, the health of the liver is dependent on the sufficiency of blood for nourishment.

Chinese medicine is also about qi, which is internal life energy. The good circulation of qi contributes to optimum health; on the contrary, the stagnation of qi affects the normal functioning of the spleen, which plays a pivotal role in the circulation of body fluids, as well as oxygen and nutrients for nourishment and maintenance of body organs, especially those of the digestive system. Given that IBS is about movement and transportation of foods in the digestive system, the spleen has a critical role in the digestive health with respect to digestion processes and their related diseases.

In Chinese medicine, pensiveness or over-thinking affects the general health of the spleen, resulting in loss of appetite, abdominal bloating after meals, and indigestion in general.

In Chinese medicine, "dampness" (both internal and external) may damage the spleen and weaken its functions. For example, foods, such a sugars and dairy products, create “internal dampness” in the spleen. Flour products, such as bread, noodles and pasta, are dampening, because wheat (as opposed to rice) is dampening by nature. All oils and fats are also dampening by nature, and hence spleen-damaging. By the same token, all milk products are dampening.

The best diet for the spleen is a clear, bland diet of unrefined grains, such as brown rice and beans, and low-fat meat, with lightly cooked vegetables.
As you age, fear may come in many different forms, such as fear of falling, fear of becoming ill, fear of loneliness, and, above all, fear of dying.

Fear can paralyze you. If you are afraid to fall, it will immobilize you. You will be afraid to go out lest you fall. Unfortunately, immobility is the leading cause of falls among the elderly. The reason is that you fall because your muscles have lost their flexibility due to immobility, and hence the body balance, resulting in falls. Overcome fear of falls by exercising muscles at any age, and by improving vision (go to my web page: Vision Health for more information).

Fear of becoming ill is another cause of stress to the body and the mind. You become more vulnerable to illnesses, not necessary due to age, but because of a weakened immune system. Stress, in any form, weakens the immune system. Learn to relax your mind. It is easier said than done. You need the mind to help you. Learn to harness your mind power, which controls your thinking, your decisions and actions as a result of it. Meditation is the best way to relax. (go to my web page: Meditation healing to find out how you can heal with meditation and learn easy meditation techniques to relax both your body and mind).

Fear of loneliness is often due to lack of purpose in life. Spirituality is the art of living well. Cherish your spiritual growth as you continue to age (for more information, visit my web page: Spiritual Healing) to overcome fear of loneliness and fear of death.

Remember, although a mental feeling, fear is a delayed physical reaction. If you feel fear in your body, you become fearful for your body. For example, if you have a deadline to meet in your work, you become stressed; that is, you become fearful of the possibility of losing your job. By the same token, fear of fall, of becoming ill can have similar related consequences created in the mind. Any physical fear creates yet another stress—the stress to avoid the fear of pain, injury, or even death. Do not let the vicious circle of fear impair your health and rob you of your wellness.

When fear is acutely felt in your body, it causes anxiety that can cause physical illness. Worse, once fear becomes a habit, it is hard to be eradicated. Much of human adult behavior is based on the fear that is created in the mind through erroneous perceptions. To solve this mental problem, you will have to begin with the mind—always mind over matter.

The good news is that meditation can help you stop, and listen to your inner voice, and accept who you are and what you are. Essentially, meditation enables you to get to know true self with self-acceptance without fear. Meditation changes what the mind’s eye perceives. It is based on a feeling of isolation and separation, so that you will understand ultimately your true self.
In other words, preventive health care holds the key to anti-aging longevity living.

Unfortunately, we are all vulnerable to disease, especially as we grow older with a weaker immune system. To make matters worse, we often resort to the use of pharmaceutical drugs to fight against disease. As a result, we may become weaker in our constitution. Remember, all drugs are dangerous chemicals, as evidenced by the many recalls by pharmaceutical companies. (All Doctors Are Dangerous: Learn how to escape the sickness industry through natural healing of the body.)

But there is another alternative: natural self–healing.

What is self-healing? Self-healing is holistic healing, a process by which your health is restored in the most natural way without the use of conventional medicine throughout the healing process. Your body has built-in natural resources capable of self-healing, if you would give it the opportunity. Unfortunately, many of us not only have no patience to wait for nature to run its course in the healing process, but also want a quick fix to remove all disease symptoms. By doing so, we only suppress the disease symptoms but without removing the disease permanently. As a result, the body becomes more toxic due to the toxic chemicals in drugs, and the immune system becomes weaker due to its increasing dependence on the drugs.

Natural self-healing is effective because it uses the power of the mind through affirmation and visualization, meditation, the goodness of nature through natural herbs and healthful foods, and the energy of your body through hand massage, yoga, and acupuncture to bring about healing of the body, the mind, and the soul. In self-healing, there is no need to take any form of chemicals or to undergo any invasive procedure, which not only may produce negative side effects but also may interrupt with the natural healing process.

Natural self-healing has long proven to be a very good alternative to the traditional way of healing practiced by medical doctors. As a matter of fact, there are currently many natural healing clinics in the United States, in which people can use natural self-healing techniques which are highly effective with minimal or zero side effects, and which are less expensive than treatments of conventional medicine.

Be a natural healer of your own disease. If you are healed from the inside out, you have a better and stronger constitution to protect yourself from disease. Self-healing is anti-aging and longevity living.
Getting old is a new experience: it is quite different from what you imagined when you were young. You don’t know what getting old is really like until you have become old.

To many, longevity may not be a blessing because there are many challenging thoughts that come with longevity.

Physically, you will have aches and pains and short breaths if you live long enough. But it is what you think about what you are experiencing when you are getting old that really matters to you. It is always mind over matter.

Getting old makes you confront the big questions of self-enlightenment, of life’s deeper meanings, and, inevitably, of death itself. Ruminating these questions may become a daily challenge.

You may still be in good health and in good shape. However, back in your mind, there lurks the challenging thought that everything will not continue the way it is indefinitely: at some point in time your health will deteriorate, and with its deterioration, everything in your life may fall apart. It is this challenging thought of unwelcome changes arriving suddenly and without warning that unnerves you. Suddenly, you are confronted with the naked truth that all that remains in your life is nothingness, except death, which will turn you into nothingness.

In life, you have opened as many doors as you have closed. You may have the challenging thought that this may be the one final door you will open, and then it will be closed on you for good.

Another challenge of getting old is retirement. Many have deferred their retirements for as long as they possibly can. Retirement is not for everybody. For many, the career itself has been all their dreams and goals, and there has been little life beyond their jobs. There is a saying: “The more of a somebody you once were, the more difficult it is to revert to being a nobody.” If you happen to be one of these individuals, retirement is rude awakening. Retirement is adding insult to the injury of getting old.

No matter what, the challenging thoughts of longevity may be overwhelming to many. To distract yourself from these challenging thoughts of having to live long, take the following advice:

(1) Appreciate your life — each day is precious to you. Live in the present moment.

(2) Count your blessings — look in perspective at every problem related to longevity.

(3) Spend more time close to nature — watch the clouds, the sunrise and sunset; listen to the wind, and the sound of water lapping against the shore.

Learn to meditate. Meditation not only relaxes your body and mind, but also presents insight into the meaning of longevity. Go to web page to learn the simple techniques of meditation: Meditation Techniques.

Longevity, after all, is a gift. Make the most of it. Longevity may be challenging, but you will be able to cross the bridge when you come to it.

What’s love got to do with it?

Money makes the world go round right? When I have enough money…then I’ll be happy. How many times have you said that to yourself?

No, actually love makes the world go round. Everybody’s chasing money and looking for ways of getting more but missing out this vital ingredient will guarantee failure.

How does love equate to money?

The whole world out there that you see in front of you right now is nothing more than a projection of what you feel inside. Yes that’s right. Not only is it a projection of your feelings, but you have created it and are continuing to create even as you read this. Money is energy just like you, me and everything else. You can have all the money in the world and still be as miserable as sin.

If you doubt that, imagine if you will for a few moments that everyone you love, all your family, nearest and dearest and every friend you have or have ever known, are gone. Poof…whooosh… they’re suddenly taken away, passed on, dead, no longer in your world and you will never see or speak to them again in this life. You’re on your own and there’s not a single soul on planet earth who cares about you, what happens to you, or even knows you exist. Bleak isn’t it?

See how all your striving and hard work to get that elusive wealth that always seemed so vitally important, at one cruel stroke has become meaningless? The love factor has been blown away and there’s no one for you to care for, or anyone left who truly loves you.

Strip away all the ‘noise’ in your life, the worry about debt, the fear of failure, the deeply buried beliefs about unworthiness that obscure the real you, and serve only to block your quest for success, and take a look at life from different angle. . . . Read more. . .
The resulting chemical compound, 50 percent phenylalanine, 40 percent aspartic acid, and 10 percent methanol is two hundred times sweeter than natural sugar. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and are never found in isolation in the food we eat, except when broken down chemically and re-introduced as an additive.
Aspartame is found in most soft drinks, many baked foods, and anything that says "no sugar added" , "sugar free", or "diet." Aspartame damages the brain . . . . . It's time you stopped your sugar cravings!

There is increasing evidence that our drinking water is unsafe – especially the devastating result of adding sodium fluoride to water supplies in the United States.

There is no valid evidence that fluoride added to water supplies prevents cavities in children's teeth. On the contrary, there is mounting evidence that it actually harms teeth. You just wonder how the authorities could have got it so wrong. As a matter of fact, the fluoride used in water supplies is a highly toxic waste product left over from the aluminum and fertilizer industry with the following potentially harmful effects on public health:

Sodium fluoride is listed as a class 2 poison and is used to kill rats.

Sodium fluoride shortens life span because it promotes cancers and mental disturbances.

Sodium fluoride prohibits proper function of the thyroid gland, leading to obesity and hormonal problems.

Sodium fluoride is an ingredient of Prozac and other tranquilizers.

Sodium fluoride lowers the IQ of children.

Sodium fluoride was used by Stalin in the gulags and by Hitler in the concentration camps to make people stupid, compliant, and extremely docile.

Sodium fluoride has the potential to increase the risk of osteosarcoma (a fatal bone cancer) in young males.

The water companies, anticipating trouble ahead, have negotiated indemnity from lawsuits by the public. In other words, the public might one day sue the government for the health hazards of fluoride added to their drinking water.

Build your own drinking water filter system in 3 easy steps, and save you thousands of dollars!

Metal detoxification is a must for longevity living. Protect your health from toxic metals from the environment, the processed foods, and our drinking water.
What you can do right now!

Stress can lead to depression, insomnia, lack of confidence and a host of other problems.

Stress in our lives is the silent killer lurking in the background. The ever present demands of modern living mean that financial problems, job disatisfaction and family commitments make it impossible to relax and can result in feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope.

Doctors have no answer to what is primarily a 'lifestyle' situation and simply hand out tranquilizers and 'happy' pills such as Prozac. These in turn lead to further stress in the form of addictions - not so happy after all!

How are you dealing with stress? If you're not dealing well with the underlying stress in your life you could make yourself susceptible to the end result of high blood pressure and heart disease.

Then of course, we know we're stressed so we feel more stress about being stressed . . . .
It can be a vicious circle.

How about if you could experience a deep sense of peace? What if you could easily reach a profound altered state of consciousness and feel totally relaxed?

These are some of the findings that may be of interest to you:

(1) A slow but steady decline in short-term memory: such as opening the door of your refrigerator and then not knowing what you are looking for.

(2) A decline in verbal ability: such as not finding the right or exact word (even though it may be a simple and common word) to express yourself

(3) A decline in logical thinking: especially with numbers, such as difficulty with simple addition or subtraction

The above may occur in the 60s or 70s, although the conditions or symptoms may vary significantly in individuals.

The human brain has billions of cells, and only a fraction of it has been tapped into, so how does it explain the decline and malfunctioning of one of the most important human organs?

Along your life -- in particular in the latter half of it -- you may experience more grief, due to bereavement or loss of friends and loved ones. Yes, time may heal all wounds, but healing takes time (as much as two years for some individuals), and you may not have too much time left for one healing after another. The bottom line: your life may become more than grief. The moral lesson: be kind to yourself! Progress one day, and regress the next.

In addition to grief, another factor that may play havoc with your aging mind is stress. Evidently, stress increases with age:

(1) Your memory becomes more impaired, and you thus become more stressed in not finding what your need or expressing yourself efficiently. Learn to de-clutter your life so that it becomes more organized. If your physical environment is less cluttered, your mind may also become more organized. Clear Your Clutter, Clear Your Mind shows you how to organize your personal life for a healthy mind.

(2) Your health may start to decline, and medical conditions are stressful.

(3) Your financial health may also become another stress factor -- especially if you have a fixed income and you are confronted with the rising cost of inflation.

Do what you can to de-stress your life. Worrying won't solve the problem. Guided meditation is most effective in relaxing the aging mind. Many people accept abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and heartburn -- all too common everyday digestive disorders -- as a way of life. They take antacid tablets, elixirs, and all types of indigestion-relieving drugs and pills as if they were vitamin supplements before and after their meals.

Digestive disorders should not be a way of life. They are often consequences of the interplay of eating patterns and attitudes about food and lifestyle, which have been acquired as children or from their culture.

The physical factors

1. Digestive disorders can be caused by extra-sensitive intestine lining as a result of eating gas-producing foods, such as beans, cabbage, and broccoli, causing the abdomen to distend.

2. Bacterial infection may result in peptic ulcers, giving rise to digestive problems.

3. Weakened lower esophageal sphincter (LES) -- muscle between the stomach and food pipe -- often causes heartburn or acid indigestion.

The smoking factor

Cigarette smoke gets into the gastrointestinal tract (GT), creating the sensation of bloating, cramping, and gassiness.

In addition, nicotine not only stimulates acid production but also promotes acid reflex and peptic ulcers.

Give up nicotine addiction naturally.

The nutrition factor

1. Poor dietary choice leads to weight gain.
2. Always eat wholesome foods, such as whole grains and vegetables. Eat Super Foods. Avoid fatty foods and junk foods.

3. Eliminate food allergies. Even healthy foods, such as broccoli and milk products, may lead to bloating, gas, and heartburn. Remove them from your diet, slowly and one by one.

Remember, there is no single diet that will work well for all people with different digestive problems. Food elimination is the way to go.

The psychological factors

Low self-esteem and stress can trigger not only digestive disorders but also eating disorders.

The social factors

Life style also plays a pivotal part in digestive disorders.

1. Irregular eating patterns and inappropriate eating habits are the culprits in digestive disorders. They include eating while watching television or working on the computer, eating too fast without thoroughly chewing the food, and eating on the run.

2. Lack of exercise is also responsible for developing problems associated with indigestion.

3. For relaxation, many people self-meditate with "comfort food" and alcohol, which often become the underlying problems of digestive disorders.

Digestive disorders cause discomfort and disruption to everyday living. It is a price at the cost of their health that many have to pay. Taking medications to alleviate or relieve digestive problems does not deal with the root of the problems. All pharmaceutical drugs are potentially dangerous, only leading to more health problems down the road.

Find out more on coping with digestive pain from: What Your Doctor Won't Tell You About Digestive Pain.
Because diabetes is only too common among the elderly, many simply do not take this disease seriously enough. This is because people seldom die directly from diabetes, but rather from its many complications.

The complications of diabetes are devastating -- such as loss of vision and amputation of limbs -- and often even deadly.

1. Because the body cannot break down the sugar needed to fuel body cells, the body begins to burn its own fat and muscle for energy. This abnormal metabolism process results in accumulation of toxic wastes in the blood, creating acidity. Too much acid in the blood may lead to unconsciousness or even death.

2. Even type 2 diabetes may cause hypoglycemia, which is an extremely low-glucose condition. This can be fatal, because the body needs fuel from sugar, and the brain is particularly sensitive to low blood sugar. Brain damage and brain malfunction can be deadly.

3. Diabetes is a nerve disease: that is, it affects the sensation of nerves. Due to loss of sensation, the nerves are unable to communicate or send messages to the muscles. Diabetes is often a major cause of impotence and sexual dysfunction.

4. Diabetes is a contributor to heart disease. Diabetes patients often develop heart disease, including heart attacks and strokes.

5. Too much glucose takes away too much water during the filtering process by the kidneys to remove waste materials from the bloodstream. This impairs the kidneys. In addition, excess sugar provides an environment for bacterial growth, leading to urinary infection, and ultimately kidney dysfunction.

Diabetes is a serious medical condition. Unfortunately, there is no cure, except control. Western medicine uses medications to control the production of insulin. The Chinese medicine uses acupuncture and diet to control diabetes.

If your diabetic condition is not too serious, taking a daily drink of celery, cucumber, green pepper, and bitter melon (a green vegetable obtainable at a Chinese supermarket) will do the trick to control the blood sugar. Bitter melon is a potent vegetable to control and stimulate insulin production in the body.
Slower mental processing is not uncommon as aging continues to take its toll on the mind and memory.

Difficulty with words and names is evidenced in word-finding; specifically, in the interchanging of words and names, or verbalizing the interfering word instead of the intended word or name. These slips of the tongue or temporary memory lapses are examples of difficulty in word-finding. They may be embarrassing, and even stressful. The good news is that there are strategies for difficulty with words and names. Learn strategies to Make Your Brain Second To None, even as you age.

The strategies to overcome difficulty with words are as follows:

1. Slow down your speech. If need be, pause to screen out the interfering word. For example, you want to say "Clint Eastwood" but the interfering word may be "Cliff"; so take a pause when you come to the word, phrase, or name you are about to say to give yourself time to prevent verbalizing the interfering word or saying the interchanging word.

2. Listen to yourself (often times we are not paying attention to what we are saying) in order to identify the words, phrases, or names you may have difficulty in saying, and correct them instantly.

3. There is nothing wrong with self-correcting. Just continue to talk to maintain the flow of conversation.

4. Avoid behaviors that indicate your frustration, such as saying "Oops!" or snapping your fingers. Such behaviors will only draw attention to your problems in word finding, and aggravate your difficulty with words.

5. Think ahead to identify the words or names you may have difficulty retrieving. For example when you are going to give a speech or to go to a social funtion, identify in advance a potentially elusive word, and find a synonym for it; try to remember the word through association so that you will avoid future word-finding problem.

Difficult with words and names can be overcome with the right strategies, although a little effort is required.

Your brain is still amazing despite the occasional setbacks in retrieving information and word-finding. Your brain is made up of about 100 trillion brain cells. These nerve cells called neurons are responsible for releasing chemicals known as neurotransmitters. They are all inter-connected, and, as such, the more connections you have, the greater is your brain power. Yes, you do have an amazing brain!

Your brain is like a recorder, which records all information on a tape (your neurons). A good memory means your brain knows when to turn on and turn off the recorder. This is crucial. However, the "when" factor is no more than your basic memory skills, without which, you just turn on the recorder all the time. The problem is that you may have just too many tapes: when you want to look for a certain tape, you may have problems finding it right away -- which is reflected in your forgetfulness, or inability to retrieve the desired information when needed.

When you are in your forties (the beginning of senility, whether you like it or not), it takes you longer to recall things. As you continue to age, you will take longer time to process new information. Things could get worse with time: you develop the common tip-of-the-tongue problem in remembering a common word, or a familiar name. Mental deterioration will continue if you live long enough: for example, you don't remember directions, or recall lists, among other daily annoyances and frustrations. Poor memory is associated with old age and the elderly.

The good news is that you may not have dementia or Alzheimer's if your brain is still healthy. But you do want to avoid, or at least defer, for as long as you possibly can the occurence of the above-mentioned memory-lapse problems.

Yes, you have an amazing brain. Just learn to harness its power and potential. You can Make Your Brain Second To None.

1. Memory has to do with your senses: sight, sound, smell, and touch. They are your memory skills, that is, tools for you to remember, store, and process information. Therefore, sharpen your senses to sharpen your mind. Protect and preserve your senses, for example, take care of your vision health, which is critical to having good memory, because sight is an important tool for remembering, storing, and processing information.

2. Avoid emotional upheavals, such as depression or stress, which can adversely affect your brain power. Practice daily meditation to calm your nerves, and let your brain relax and rest. Meditation is a powerful tool to optimize your memory skills. Learn how to meditate from my web page: Meditation Techniques. All you need is patience and consistency.

3. Avoid pharmaceutical drugs wherever possible, especially over-the-counter ones, such as cold remedies and sleep aids. Drugs are dangerous chemicals that may damage your brain cells. Remember, brain cells, unlike other cells, do not regenerate, although you have trillions of them. Use natural herbs and home-made medicine, which are less toxic and have fewer side effects than the chemicals of pharmaceutical drugs.

4. Good nutrition enhances brain health. The rule of thumb is: What is good for the heart is also good for the brain. Eat a diet low in animal fat.

5. Try not to do too many things too quickly at the same time. This not only creates time stress but also disorients the mind.

Your brain is amazing. And you can keep it amazing for as long as you wish. If there is a will, there is a way.
Some researchers have attributed this to the psychological and physical makeup. Essentially, those who do not easily succumb to stress demonstrate not only strong commitment to themselves but also staunch belief that change is challenging but unavoidable in life. As a result, they show adaptability and flexibility, which contribute to enhanced physical and mental health. In other words, stress management is all in the mind.

Your brain is the hardware of your whole being. Your brain is responsible for your stress. It is all in your mind. You are what you think, and you become what you think. Therefore, manage your stress through you mind. You control your own thinking, and your brain creates your own world: how you live your life, and how happy you are. And you are responsible for how you feel - even the stresses in life.

This is what happens when stress occurs. You have a thought (usually a negative one) about the stressful event or situation. Your thought sends electrical signals to your brain, which releases chemicals, and you become aware of your own thinking. No matter what you think, your thought is real to you, and must be treated as real. The goal is not to discard that thought or to distract yourself from that thought, but to change your perception of that thought.

To be able to change that thought, you must be aware of your body's reactions to the chemicals released by your brain as that thought occurs. For example, notice how your muscles tense up when you are distressed.

The next step is to talk back to that negative thought. Change your thought, and do not believe it. Learn how to train your mind to change your thought, and accordingly change your feeling about that thought. Reinforce your changed feeling by talking back to that thought which gives you the stress. Always use positive affirmations.

Next time, when you are confronted by a stressful situation, think "STOP!" Take a deep breath. Do some mental reflection, such as asking yourself why you think you are distressed. Acknowledge any feeling of anxiety, and become aware of the subtle changes in your physical body. Talk back to any negative thought responsible for creating the stress. The final step is to take appropriate action. Make a list of possible solutions to the problem. If it requires tackling the problem immediately, take the action at once: procrastination only aggravates the situation. But defer taking action if you are able to deal with it more effectively later on. Relax, such as taking a deep meditation, or doing something enjoyable to calm yourself.

Use your mind to manage your daily stress.

Visit my websites: The Seven Pillars of Wisdom.

Stephen Lau

Why You Should Avoid Processed Foods

Food choice holds the key to health longevity. Always eat naturally. Always eat whole foods. Your food choice should be based on nutrients, not availability or convenience. Processed foods offer you nothing except convenience.

There are many reasons why you should avoid processed foods:

1. Processed foods are dead foods, devoid of nutrients. For example, bleached flour lacks nutrients, and it contains unnatural products.

2. Processed foods are often loaded with salt, and high levels of salt lead to high blood pressure. Remember, the salt in processed foods is not natural sea salt, but chemicals that contain brain-toxic aluminum.

3. Processed foods often require high level of processing, which not only removes anti-cancer agents that may be present in the food, but also produces cancer-causing heterocylic amines during high-heat processing. In other words, processed foods provide an environment promoting cancer growth.

4. During food processing, fiber is degraded, if not totally removed. Fiber is beneficial to the removal of pollutants and toxins from the body.

5. During food processing, unnatural toxic amino acids are formed, and they may adversely affect the production of DNA.

6. Processed foods are often loaded with trans-fatty acids and other oxidized fats that damage the arteries, and thus affecting heart health as well as brain health due to clogged arteries. In addition, neurotoxic chemicals are one of the causes of dementia and Parkinson's disease.

7. Simple sugars are often added to most processed foods. The high levels of simple sugars affect mental alertness when blood glucose levels drop. In addition, artificial sweeteners not only affect the absorption of amino acids by the brain, but also cause toxicity and hyperactivity in children.

Most food items in the supermarket that come in a box or carton are processed foods. In grocery shopping, read the food labels before any purchase. If they contain chemicals or terms unfamiliar to you, they are additives, colorings, and taste enhancers. If the main ingredients contain more than five items, you can forget about that food item - it is processed!

To live long, you need wisdom in food choice.
