Sikerült indítanunk a helyi, montreáli TV-ben egy "Talk-showt", amelyben a divatvilág meghívott vendégeivel beszélgettünk.

Working a lot we really started to get busier and busier by the day

We managed to land a little TV talk show about fashion at the local Montreal TV, conversing with people in the fashion business

Here we are talking with the director of the Aquascutum Montreal, that part of the world famous English trench coat manufacturer

We also found stores, boutiqes and organised for them fashion shows like some in Place Ville Mare (PVM).

I was just about to turn my back to the fashion and modeling world, when the owner of the modeling school, for family reasons wanted to sell urgently the school at a low price that I was able to buy it and just simply couldn't resist.

So I became the proud owner of a small but nice little modeling school/agency in down town Montreal.

Peter Ray alias of Peter Rakobowchuk fired as news director from Vancouver CKO Radio in the late 70'S after less than a year working there because of his racist comment about East-Indian people. He added on-air in his newscast to the eulogy this degrading racial slur "........." of a prominent member of the East-Indian Vancouver community, who died that day.

I, believing the story he invented about this disgusting incident,not knowing him well enough yet, nor his incredible talent for lying gave up my great career as modelling director, working with Marie Morton, legendary talent agent, owner of Jerry Lodge Talent Agency, with Michael J. Fox , Kim Cattrall among the many talented people at the agency in Vancouver.

, for whom he dumped me and our daughter, have been doing everything they can, using mainstream media as its members to discredit us so this shame of Canadian journalism wouldn't be found out.

I started painting, Seeing a new venue to fame and fortune he hoped I wouldn't be a "stay-at-home mom, housewife, who does not advance his career but again become a trophy he could show around and boast about to boost his own image. He even wanted me to sign my painting using "Rakobowchuk" name. I refused of course.

Peter Rakobowchuk lost his news director job for making degrading racial slurs on-air, about a prominent member of the East-Indian community the day he died using his alias name Peter Ray at Vancouver CKO Radio. But soon he was rehired at his old job back in Ontario with Broadcast News subsidiary of (The Canadian Press). Believing his lies he concocted up (I didn't know him well enough yet to doubt him nor the fact that he was capable to say incredible LIES when his interest or Pat Enborg commanded him to do so.) As I was also in love with him I faced a tough decision, when he begged me, crying to move with him back East, to say good bye to him or give up a lucrative career I loved very much and move with him to Toronto. It was a difficult choice as besides being a great career, I worked with people like Michael J. Fox, when Kim Cattrall was home in B.C. I sent her on modelling assignments too, besides many great people I became very fond of. It was difficult to leave them, especially Marie Morton, the owner and director of Jerry Lodge, one of the greatest and loveliest persons I ever met in my life. She possessed that rare combination of high integrity with a kindest heart to match it. Her and her family's kindness often eased the sadness of homesickness and my missing my family back in Hungary, I had not seen nearly ten years by that time.

I made the decision, believing Peter to be a very different person than he was in reality I moved with Peter Rakobowchuk aka Peter Ray to Ontario.. Blind or rather stupid I was (being in love) to believe the story he concocted up about the grave incident at his work.

I had a consolation though at the time. I was able to go home to Hungary.Feeling sorry for Peter for losing his job I invited him to come with me to Hungary.

Next morning as I was promised, a very nice, but very serious gentleman called upon me to accompany me to the police station with my documents.

That same reverence reverberated also in their voices. At the end of their conversation I had to present my official documents and the meeting was over.

The gentleman said good-bye, saying he would be back for me soon again as we had yet to go to one more place. I was worried by then as the little money I took with me was running out slowly.

A few days later, I was called upon again by that very same, severe looking, yet very nice and polite, gentleman.

That time he took me to a very happy, friendly, very Italian family. Here, I found out that a tiny little room was waiting for me with the kind offer of daily breakfast and dinner.

I never forget the horrified look on their faces, when the first time they saw me putting cocoa and sugar on their precious Italian spagetti, instead of the spagetti sauce with meatballs.. I told them, in Hungary pasta with sugar on grined poppyseed or walnut was a national meal.

I don"t think they ever got used to seeing me, rarely though, but still eating my favotite meal, but as I said they were really very nice and polite people, so they didn"t tease me anymore about my (in their opinion) very strange taste in food.

Though, I must admit it wasn't really a sacrifice to give up my favorite meal for those really delicious Italian pastas covered with tasty meat sauce.

I often wondered if they were perhaps happy, when I started working and moved to a small, but comfortable little appartment.

In the meantime I learned of that "certain name" found out that it belonged to a centuries old, famous aritocratic family. The family members were the owners of the Buton Gio distillery, the makers of the world famous Vecchia Romagna brandy.

Some more weeks passed by with my filling out tones of papers, questioners, signing documents, when finally to my greatest joy I received my Italian residence permit together with my work permit.

Időközben megtudtam az a bizonyos, sokszor hallott név egy több évszázados arisztokrata család tagjaihoz tartozott és ezé a családé volt a "Buton Gio" likőr gyár amely a világhírű "Vecchia Romagna" brandyt készítette.

Másnap, ahogy megígérték egy barátságos, bár nagyon komoly úriember jött értem, hogy elkísérjen a rendőr állomásra ahova személyesen kellett a dokumentjeimet elvinni megjelenni.

Meglepetten láttam kísérőm és a rendőrtisztek arcán egy mély tisztelet kifejezését, mikor beszélgetésük közben egy bizonyos, gyakran elhangzó nevet említettek. Ez a tisztelet kicsengett hangjukból is. A hosszúra húzodó beszélgetés után átadtam a hivatalos papírjaimat vége is volt a találkozásnak.

A szigorú, nagyon udvarias Dottor Monzini elbúcsúzott, és megemlítette, el kell még mennünk egy másik helyre is. Már kezdtem aggódni hiszen a kevés kis pénz amivel eljöttem már nagyon apadóban volt.

Pár nap után Dottor Monzini egy vidám, kedves olasz családhoz vitt, ahol egy pici barátságos szoba várt rám, beleértve a napi reggelit és az ebédet is.

Soha nem felejtem el azt az elborzadt kifejezést az arcukon, mikor először látták, hogy kakaóval és porcukorral hintettem tele a híres olasz pasztát.

Hiába mondtam, hogy Magyarországon a cukros diós és mákos tészta a magyarok egyik nemzeti eledele, csak a fejüket rázták, hogy azért az csak nem természetes. Gondolom soha nem szoktak hozzá a kakaós vacsoráimhoz, bár csak ritkán ettem, de ők kedvesek voltak hozzám, és abbahagyták a viccelődésüket is.

Persze azt azért meg kell, hogy említsem, milyen finomak is voltak azok a húsos szósszal leöntött olasz tészták.

Néha eltűnődtem, vajon titokban örültek-e mikor elkeztem dolgozni, találtam egy komfortos kis lakást és elköltöztem.

Én, még heteket töltöttem el papírok, kérdőívek, kérelmek kitöltésével, aláírásokkal, izgatott várakozással, mire végre óriási örömömre kézhez kaptam az olasz rezidencia és munka engedélyemet.

Traveling to Italy

After, finally getting my visa to go to Italy, knowing that I was standing before the biggeast change of my life,I started packing and getting ready for my trip.

I could hardly believe it, that after years of dreaming of that place, having looked up every picture of it in magazines, books, watched the rarely played Italian movies , I would be seeing everything in real life, not just their imitations, however good they were.

When I arrived in Italy the first place I hurried to, was the address given to me by the singer girl I met at my university city. I was informed that I would have to wait for their tour to be finished before she came home and that would be about in one or two weeks..

The city was lovely, it was also called the city of arcades. you could actually walk without an umbrella to many places even during a rainstorm.

Most of you must have noticed how plans do not always turn out the way they are supposed to, they turn and twist as if driven by their own will, making the end results much better or much worse than they were planed.

Well, as it turned out in my case, it's end was the former, not the latter, thanks to a very accidental, but for me a really fortunate meeting with some very nice and very good people.

I told my story and my secret hope and desire to stay in Italy for good. I told them I didn't want to ask for political asylum, first of all, my spirit of adventuring had not the slightest political undertone whatsoever, and my great love for Italy, Her Art and Her greatest Masters had not even that much.

Utazás Itáliába.

Miután végre megkaptam a vízumomat Itáliába, érezve, hogy életem legnagyobb változása előtt állok nekiálltam készülni a nagy útra. Alig tudtam elhinni, hogy annyi év álmodozása után, végre saját szememmel fogom látni a valós helyeket, dolgokat, nem képekkel és filmekkel készült imitációkat, bármennyire is jók és szépek azok.

Amikor megérkeztem Itáliába az első hely ahova siettem az cím volt, melyet az olasz kis énekesnőtől kaptam, akivel az egyetemi városomban barátkoztam össze.

Megtudtam kell várnom egy vagy két hetet, akkor tér majd haza a turnéjáról.

A város csodálatos volt, az árkádok városának is hívják, ahol sok helyre elsétálhatsz még esőben is az esernyőd nélkül.

Sokan észrevehették már, hogy a tervek nem mindig végződnek úgy ahogy kellene, fordulnak, forognak az események mintha saját akaratuk szerint mennének és a vége vagy sokkal jobb vagy sokkal rosszabb lesz, annál, mint ahogyan a terv szerint kellett volna történnie.

Nos az én esetemben az előbbi, nem az utóbbi történt, köszönhetően egy igazi véletlen és számomra egy, még most is hihetetlennek tűnő nagyon szerencsés találkozásnak nagyon jó és kedves emberekkel.

Elmeséltem a sztorimat és titkos vágyamat és reményemet, hogy talán Itáliában maradhatok.

Meséltem az aggódásomról is, hogy nem akarok politikai menedékjogot kérni ugyanis politikának semmi köze nem volt kalandvágyamhoz, az Itáliáért, művészetéért és a nagy Mesterek iránti rajongásomért pedig még annyira sem.

Egy hosszú beszélgetés és még több kérdés után azt mondták, "first thing first""mindent a maga idejében" kezdve a legfontosabbal. Addig nem lehet semmit hivatalosan elindítani, amíg a vízumom nincs meghosszabítva, mivel idő kell az ügyem hivatalos elintézéséhez.

Nem csak az tűnt hihetetlennek, hogy igazi segítséget kapok, hanem, hogy az a segítség már el is indult.

Időközben megtudtam a mélységes tisztelet megjelenésének a miértjét mindenkinek az arcán és hangjában mikor az a "bizonyos név" gyakran elhangzott a hosszú megbeszélés alatt.

Kiderült, hogy az a név egy híres több évszázados arisztokrata család tagjaihoz tartozott, tulajdonosai voltak a Buton Gio likőr gyárnak, amely a világhírű "Vecchia Romagna" brandyt állította elő.

Még több hét eltelt, mikor végre, legnagyobb örömömre megérkezett a residencia engedélyem, együtt a munkaengedéllyel.

A legnagyobb boldogságom százszorosra sokszorozódott, mikor megtudtam, hogy munkát is kaptam.

A Buton Gio Magyar-Olasz fordítóként alkalmazott Bolognában.

A központi gyár Bolognaban. A fehér négyemeletes épület a bal sarokban a fő bejárat és a fő adminisztrációs központ, ahol Germana and I dolgoztunk a 2/3 emeleten.

I would never have dreamt that I could ever behold a letter conveying me the sincere gratitude of all people, a real life Queen

and of all places it had to be from England, my second favorite place on Earth. I have only been there, actually at an the airport hotel, waiting for my connecting flight on my way from Canada to Hungary and again on the way back from Hungary to Vancouver.

How could I have imagined then and there during that waiting time that letter was waiting to be written for me in the far future from a palace somewhere near there.

But that was way before I started painting as that will come much later and it will be a completely different story. That tree I was leaning against was apparently over a thousand year old giant.I was thinking of the history of humanity, always a war somewhere as meanwhile that little sapling just grew innocently, nonchalantly into that giant, just waiting for me to take a photo of the two of us.

I met Madame Marcelle Dumoulin in Bern Switzerland as I had to go to the Canadian Embassy to have my Canadian passport renewed.

I also went to Münster Gallery in Bern to show my photografs of my paintings and I got an exhibition date in that well know galery. In the background the owner mrs. Hoffman

Well to cut the story short, I ended up with a lovely new passport and she with a nice oil portrait after several sittings.

My life in Italia

I detected a great respect on the face of Dottor Monzini, the person who was promised to come to help me with extending my visitior's visa, acompanied me, to the police station. I saw the same respect on the police officers' faces and in their voices as well, when a "certain name" was pronounced during their long conversation.

At the end of their conversation I had to present my documents and the meeting was over.

The gentleman said good-bye, saying he would be back as we had yet to go to one more place. I was worried by then as the little money I took with me was running out slowly.

Few days later, I was called upon again by that same, severe looking, yet very nice and polite, gentleman.

He took me to a happy, friendly, very Italian family. I found out that a tiny little room was waiting for me with the kind offer of daily breakfast and dinner.

I never forget the horrified look on their faces, when the first time they saw my putting cocoa and sugar on their spagetti, instead of the sauce with meatballs.. I told them, in Hungary pasta with sugar on grined poppyseed or walnut was a national meal.

I must admit it wasn't really a sacrifice to give up my favorite meal for those delicious Italian pastas with tasty meat sauce.

I often wondered if they were perhaps happy, when I started working and moved to a small, but comfortable little appartment.

Some more weeks passed by with my filling out tones of papers, questioners, signing documents, when finally to my greatest joy I received my Italian residence permit together with my work permit.

Másnap, ahogy megígérték Dottor Monzini, egy barátságos, nagyon komoly úriember jött értem, hogy elkísérjen a rendőr állomásra ahova személyesen kellett a dokumentjeimmel megjelenni.

Meglepetten láttam kísérőm és a rendőrtisztek arcán egy mély tisztelet, egy bizonyos név gyakori elhangzásakor Ez a tisztelet kicsengett hangjukból is. A hosszúra húzodó beszélgetés után átadtam a hivatalos papírjaimat vége is volt a találkozásnak.

Az udvarias Dottor Monzini elbúcsúzott, és megemlítette, el kell még mennünk egy másik helyre is. Már kezdtem aggódni hiszen a kevés kis pénz amivel eljöttem már nagyon apadóban volt.

Pár nap után Dottor Monzini egy vidám, kedves olasz családhoz vitt, ahol egy pici barátságos szoba várt rám, beleértve a napi reggelit és az ebédet is.

Nem felejtem el azt az elborzadt kifejezést az arcukon, mikor először látták, hogy kakaóval és porcukorral hintettem tele a híres olasz pasztát.

Mondtam, hogy nálunk a cukros diós és mákos tészta a magyarok egyik nemzeti eledele, csak a fejüket rázták, hogy azért az csak nem természetes. Gondolom soha nem szoktak hozzá a kakaós vacsoráimhoz, bár csak ritkán ettem, de ők kedvesek voltak hozzám, és abbahagyták a viccelődésüket is.

Persze azt azért megemlítem, finomak voltak azok a húsos szósszal leöntött olasz tészták.

Néha eltűnődtem, vajon titokban örültek-e mikor elkeztem dolgozni, találtam egy komfortos kis lakást és elköltöztem.

Még heteket töltöttem el kérdőívek, kérelmek kitöltésével, aláírásokkal, izgatott várakozással, mire végre óriási örömömre kézhez kaptam az olasz rezidencia és munka engedélyemet.

A World as Seen - An Art as Lived

I think one of the beauties of art is not simply its nature of being subjective and diversely interpretable but of being a sort of ciphered reflection of life. Undeniably, artistic pride allows artists to officially proclaim that they are the very proprietors of the meanings of all that is life, culture and society but, at the same time, it provides them with a sense of responsibility that they are commissioned to make people think.

An intriguing life of travels, experiences and adventures is most surely captured underneath and between the layers of paint as the perfume of joy, sorrow, love and pain emanates from the very base layer of canvas seething through the painting as a whole.

Before Szabo found herself up to her neck with paint and inspiration, she had lived a relatively glamorous life. I'll begin this little series of her journeys with a photo of her taken on her move to Canada (from Italy) on the ship called Michelangelo. The famous name of the boat was perhaps a coincidence but I believe that all roads lead to a destiny we are forever searching for.

Here, I am dancing with Peter Marboe, who was traveling to the US to work at Austrian Embasy. Later he became the leader of the Austrian People's Party.

On the photo you can see the flags representing the nationalities of the travelers. Agota Szabo's Hungarian flag can also be seen.

Egy látott világ, egy megélt művészet

Úgy vélem a művészet egyik szépsége szubjektív természete és sokféle lehetséges tolmácsolhatósága mellett az, hogy az élet valamiféle rejtjeles visszatükröződése. Tagadhatatlan, művészi önhittség engedi meg a művészeknek, hogy hivatalosan hirdethessék magukról, az ő birtokukban van mindaz, ami az élet, a kultúra és a társadalom valódi értelmét jelenti, bár ugyanakkor, ők viszont egy felelősségérzettel teli megbízást kaptak arra, hogy az embereket gondolkodásra késztessék.

Egy utazásokkal, tapasztalatokkal és kalandokkal érdekfeszítőre formált élet van minden bizonnyal megragadva és elrejtve a festékrétegek alatt és között, amint öröm, szomorúság, szeretet és fájdalom sugárzik magából a vászon alapból és forrongva kavarog a festmény egészén belül.

Mielőtt még Szabo festékkel és inspirációval a feje búbjáig ellepve találta magát, meglehetősen vonzó és elegáns életet élt. Ezt, az utazásairól szóló kis sorozatot, egy fényképpel kezdem, amely a Michelangelo nevű hajón készült, amikor költözött Kanadába (Olaszországból). Lehetett e hajó híres neve csak egy véletlen, de én hiszek abban, hogy minden út egy olyan sors felé vezet, amelyet mi magunk örökké és szüntelenül keresünk.

Soon after Peter Ray aka Peter Rakobowchuk arrived in Vancouver as the news director of CKO News Radio met Agota Szabo ( Agatha ) director of modeling at Jerry Lodge Talent Agency. They became friends and started travelling together around the city, its surroundings and the mountains.

A long, lovely, busy year was nearing to it's end with traveling a lot and working hard. Peter Ray with the news in BC and Agatha looking after the assignments for the models.

When magazines, advertisers needed a young teen boy Agatha usually sent Michael J.Fox for a job in shootings for clothing or for advertisements (not a star yet. His serious acting career started that time with Marie's great help). He was still very young yet he was a true professional already. Never missed an assignment, was always on time for a job. In a word he could always be relied upon.

Marie Morton legendary talent agent, owner of the Vancouver Jerry Lodge Talent. She managed the acting department, over a thousand actors and actresses were registered, amongst them Michael J. Fox, John Ireland, Ian Tracy, Kim Catrall etc. Often organized casting calls for American casting agents as well.

Különösen szívemhez nőtt ez a kis tájkép festmény Ágota Szabótól mert nemcsak maga a festmény bűvöl el (a digitális változat itt a neten egészen más effektust kínál, mint a kicsi, ragyogó eredeti), hanem elkápráztató az a tény, hogy minden egyes festék pontot kéz ecsetelt fel a vászonra, pont pontot követve a különböző rétegeken át.

Ágotának évekbe tellett ezeknek a tájkép festményeknek a szín kombinációját kifejleszteni, mivel mindig (és most is) annyiféle kombináció nyeri el a tetszését, hogy gyakran nehéznek találja a rábólintást a végső, elfogadható variációra. Ennek a kis festménynek az elkészítése jó pár hetet vett igénybe (dolgozás éjjel-nappal, mint ahogy ez szokásos, amikor fest), de úgy vélem az őszi színek, a vörös és zöld szinte hívogatóan komor árnyalatai gyönyörű kísérő zenét adnak magának a jelenetnek a dallamához. Van valami vonzóan varázslatos a nyugodtság kisugárzásában, amely kíséri a néma éjszakában sétát tevő párt.

I am particularly attached to this small landscape painting of Agota Szabo as not only is the painting itself enchanting (the digital version here on the net offers a widely different effect than the small, shimmering original) but what is fascinating is the fact that each and every point of paint was truly brushed onto the canvas by hand, dot-by-dot and in various layers.

The colour-combination of these landscape paintings also took Agota years to develop as she was (and is) always captivated by so many combinations that she often finds it difficult to aprove on a final, acceptable variation. This small painting took her several weeks to paint (day-and-night work as is customary when she paints) but I do believe the autumn colours, the almost invitingly dismal shades of red and green are a fine accompaniment to the tune of the scene itself, where there is something attractively charming in the aura of serenity that accompanies the couple taking a walk in the silent night.

Of all her paintings, the translucent shades of warmth yet at the same time of distant contemplation has always made this one my favourite. I will later comment more on it, on the technique used to paint it and also on its history.

Giselle Rakobowchuk, daughter of Canadian Press reporter Peter Rakobowchuk from his first marriage with Agota Szabo Canadian-Hungarian artist. Although she was born and grew up in Canada she finished her BA in Sociology in Hungarian at the University of Pécs with excellent marks, she was one of their the best students.

Here, below some photos taken during her last year at university. She was honored to have been asked to give a presentation at that conference.
