Pakistan's paramilitary force had earlier said a group of foreign fighters, including ethnic Uzbeks, was involved in the airport attack. The militants had entered the airport through a maintenance area and immediately began firing on security guards. A number of terrorists are believed to have reached the runway area and army commandos sealed the section off. Pakistani security personnel arrive at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

Flights in and out of the airport were stopped during the lengthy gun battle. Television footage showed plumes of smoke rising from the runway and fires where planes were parked. The attack happened on the same day that at least 23 people, including several Shiite pilgrims, were killed in a gun and suicide attack near the Pakistan-Iran border. Similar raids in the past have been claimed by Taliban militants who rose up against the Pakistani state in 2007 in an insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives. Taliban gunmen attacked a Karachi naval base in 2011, destroying two US-made Orion aircraft and killing 10 personnel in a 17-hour siege. Taliban and other militants in uniform carried out a similar raid at Pakistan's military headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi in 2009, leaving 23 dead. Prime minister Nawaz Sharif's government began negotiations with the TTP in February, with a ceasefire beginning March 1, but breaking down a month later. The TTP emerged in response to a raid on a radical mosque in Islamabad, but Islamist violence in the country began to surge in 2004 following the army's deployment in the volatile tribal areas.

13 فيبروري 2012ع جي ڪاوش هائيڊ پارڪ نئون ديرو جي امام راشدي جو خط ڇپيو آهي، جنهن ۾ مشهور سياح ابن بطوطه جي سفرنامي ۾ ذڪر ڪيل سنڌ جي جُناني يا جوڻاڻي شهر جي هنڌ بابت ڪجهه شڪ شبها ظاهر ڪيا ويا آهن. ابن بطوطه جو جُناني شهر وارهه جي اولهه ۾ واقع تاريخي شهر جوڻاڻي ئي آهي. مشهور ليکڪ ايم ايڇ پنهور سومرا خاندان جي تاريخ بابت لکيل ڪتاب جي باب ٻارهين ۾ به ابن بطوطه جو جُناني شهر وارهه ويجهو واقع شهر کي ئي قرار ڏنو آهي. در اصل ابن بطوطه آفريڪا جي مراڪش ملڪ کان دنيا جي سفر تي نڪتو هو ۽ ايران ۽ افغانستان کان ٿيندو گومل لڪ ذريعي موجوده بلوچستان جي علائقن زوب ۽ ڊيرا بگٽي کان ٿيندو سن 1333ع ۾ موجوده سنڌ جي حدن ۾ ڪنڌ ڪوٽ ۽ ٺل جي وچ واري علائقي يعني تنگواڻي جي آسپاس پهتو، جتان ان وقت سنڌو درياهه جو مشهور الُهندو وهڪرو يعني الهندو نارو وهندو هو، جيڪو ڪشمور وٽان درياهه جي مکيه وهڪري کان شروع ٿي منڇر ڍنڍ تائين ويندو هو. ابن بطوطه موجوده تنگواڻي ۽ ٺل جي آسپاس انهيءَ الهندي وهڪري ۾ ٻيڙيءَ تي سوار ٿيو ۽ ٻن ڏينهن جي سفر کانپوءِ جُناني شهر پهتو هو ۽ اتان کان وري انهيءَ وهڪري ذريعي وڌيڪ ٻن ڏينهن جي سفر تي سيوهڻ پهتو هو، جتان وري درياهه جي مکيه وهڪري ذريعي ٺٽي طرف لاهري بندر پهتو ۽ ڪجهه ڏينهن اتي ترسڻ کانپوءِ وري سنڌو درياهه ذريعي واپسي جو سفر شروع ڪري بکر ۽ ملتان پهتو هو. خط جي ليکڪ امام راشدي اهو اعتراض اٿاريو آهي ته جُناني شهر ويجهو سنڌو درياهه يا ان جي ڪنهن وهڪري جي نشان جي ڪابه ثابتي نه ٿي ملي، جيڪو اعتراض بلڪل غلط آهي، ڇاڪاڻ ته اها ڳالهه ته هر هنڌ ثابت آهي ته اتر سنڌ ۾ درياهه جي مکيه وهڪري کان ساڄي پاسي تي هميشه درياهه جو هڪ ننڍو وهڪرو الهندو نارو وهندو هو، جيڪو جُناني شهر جي ڀرسان لنگهندو هو ۽ ابن بطوطه به ان ئي وهڪري ۾ ٻيڙي ذريعي سفر ڪيو هو ۽ هن وقت به انهيءَ الهندي ناري جا سرزمين تي نشان ڪشمور کان وٺي منڇر ڍنڍ ۽ سيوهڻ تائين نظر اچن ٿا. درياهه جو هي وهڪرو ڪشمور کان پهرين اتر طرف ۽ بعد ۾ ڏکڻ طرف کان شروع ٿي بخشاپور جي ڏکڻ کان ڦري، ڪنڌ ڪوٽ کان اٺ ڪلوميٽر اتر کان گذرندو بجار خان بجاراڻي جي ڳوٺ کان ٿيندو تنگواڻي کان ٽي ڪلوميٽر ڏکڻ طرف کان ٿيندو ڪرمپور بجاراڻي کان اٺ ڪلوميٽر اتر ۾ ڏياڻي ڳوٺ وٽان لنگهندو هو ۽ پوءِ اتان کان شڪارپور ضلعي جي زرخيل ۽ سلطان ڪوٽ کان چار ڪلوميٽر ڏکڻ طرف کان گذرندو هو. جنهن تي انگريزن جي 1880ع ۾ شڪارپور کان جيڪب آباد تائين ٺهرايل ريلوي لائين جي گذر واري هنڌ تي وڏي لوهي پل به ٺهيل آهي ۽ 2010ع جي مهاٻوڏ ۾ ٽوڙي بند جي ٻوڏ وارو پاڻي جڏهن بيگاري ڪينال کي ڀڃي ڏکڻ طرف شڪارپور ضلعي ۾ داخل ٿيو ته ان پاڻيءَ انهيءَ پراڻي وهڪري واري ڍوري وارو ئي رستو ورتو ۽ شڪارپور، جيڪب آباد روڊ کي به بلڪل ان هنڌ وٽان ئي ڀڃي ڇڏيائين، جتان اهو قديم وهڪرو گذرندو هو. سلطان ڪوٽ کانپوءِ اهو وهڪرو ڳڙهي ياسين کان ٽي ڪلوميٽر اتر ۾ گولي دڙي وٽان لنگهي رتيديري کان ست ڪلوميٽر اتر کان لنگهي ميري خان کان ڦري درگاهه حاڪم شاهه پٽ واري کان ٽي ڪلوميٽر ڏکڻ طرف قمبر- شهداد ڪوٽ روڊ ڪراس ڪري ڊرگهه ڍنڍ کان گذرندو وارهه کان ٿورو اولهه طرف جواڻي يا جناني جي تاريخي ڳوٺ وٽان لنگهي هيٺ ڏکن طرف وڃي منڇر ڍنڍ ڏانهن ويندو هو، جتان وري واپس درياهه جي مکيه وهڪري سان ملندو هو. درياهه جي هن قديم وهڪري جا نشان اڄ تائين به ڪشمور کان وٺي منڇر ڍنڍ تائين مختلف هنڌن تي ڍورن جي صورت ۾ موجود آهن ۽ ان سان گڏ مختلف جڳهن تي واريءَ جا دڙا به اها گواهي ڏيئي رهيا آهن. ايم ايڇ پنهور جي تازو ڇپيل مشهور ڪتاب ”Six thousand of history of irrigation of sindh“ جي نقشي نمبر 39 ۾ اولهندي ناري وارو اهو وهڪرو ”وارهه وهڪرو“ (Warah Course) جي نالي سان ڏيکاريل آهي. انهيءَ وقت اتر سنڌ ۾ درياهه جو مکيه وهڪرو ڪنڌ ڪوٽ ۽ شڪارپور جي وچ ۾ واقع مشهور ”سنڌ ڍورو“ کان وهندو هو ۽ جڏهن چوڏهين صدي عيسوي کانپوءِ درياهه سنڌو درياهه وارو وهڪرو ڇڏي اوڀر طرف گهوٽڪي واري پاسي ڦري ويو ته درياهه جو جوڻاڻي کان وهندڙ اهو الهندو وهڪرو به بعد ۾ بند ٿي ويو ۽ اهو الهندو ناري وارو وهڪرو بعد ۾ سکر ۽ پوءِ وري لاڙڪاڻي وان درياهه جي مکيه وهڪري کان نڪرندو هو، جيڪو انگريزن جي دور تائين به وهندو هو ۽ منڇر ڍنڍ ۾ پوندو هو، جڏهن ته ڪشمور، سلطان ڪوٽ ۽ جوڻاڻي واري بند ٿيل وهڪري ۾ بعد ۾ صرف درياهه ۾ وڏي ٻوڏ مهل اٿل وارو پاڻي ڪشمور وٽان وهندو منڇر ڍنڍ تائين ويندو هو، جن کي لاڙڪاڻي ۽ دادو ۾ ڪشمور واريون ٻوڏون سڏيو ويندو آهي. ابن بطوطه 1333ع ۾ جوڻاڻي جي شهر کي تعريف لائق سمجهيو آهي. ايم ايڇ پنهور جي تحقيق موجب جوڻاڻي کي 1351ع ڌاري سمن باهه ڏيئي ساڙيو هو. جڏهن سمن سنڌ ۾ سومرن کان حڪومت کسي هئي ۽ سومرن خلاف سمن تشدد کان به ڪم ورتو هو ۽ جوڻاڻي سومرن جو شهر هو. ان کانسواءِ شايد درياهه جي انهيءَ قديم الهندي وهڪري جي بند ٿيڻ ڪري به جوڻاڻي جو عاليشان شهر برباد ٿي ويو، جنهن جا کنڊر اڄ به وارهه ويجهو موجود آهن. مٿين ڳالهين مان ثابت ٿئي ٿو ته ابن بطوطه جو جُناني شهر اهو وارهه وارو جوڻاڻي ئي آهي ۽ ان دور ۾ جوڻاڻي وٽان درياهه جو هڪ وهڪرو به وهندو هو.

پاکستانی فلمساز شرمین عبید چنوئے نے تیزاب کے حملوں کا شکار افراد پر بنائی گئی اپنی دستاویزی فلم ’سیونگ فیس‘ پر آسکر ایوارڈ جیت کر ایک نئی تاریخ رقم کر لی ہے کیونکہ اس سے قبل پاکستان کے کسی ہدایتکار کو یہ اعزاز حاصل نہیں ہوا۔

لاس اینجلس میں اتوار کی شام اکیڈمی ایوارڈ کی شاندار رنگا رنگ تقریب میں آسکر کا اعزاز قبول کرتے ہوئے اپنی تقریر میں شرمین نے اسے پاکستانی خواتین کے نام وقف کر دیا۔

’’پاکستان کی تمام خواتین جو تبدیلی کے لیے جد و جہد کر رہی ہیں، وہ خواب دیکھنا کبھی مت چھوڑیں، یہ (ایوارڈ) آپ کے لیے ہے۔‘‘

آسکر کی تقریب سے قبل وائس آف امریکہ کو دیے گئے انٹرویو میں شرمین نے کہا تھا کہ ان کی دستاویزی فلم کو ملنے والی نامزدگی نہ صرف ان کے لیے ذاتی طور پر بلکہ پاکستان کے لیے بھی ایک اعزاز کی بات ہے۔

’’جب پتا چلا کہ آسکر کے لیے نامزد ہوئے ہیں تو بہت خوشی ہوئی پوری ٹیم کو کیونکہ فلم کوئی اکیلا تو بناتا نہیں مگر سب سے زیادہ یہ فخر محسوس ہوا کہ آپ کہیں بھی ہوں، کہیں بھی پلے بڑھے ہوں، کہیں پر بھی کام کر رہے ہیں مگر آپ اچھا کوالٹی کام آگے بڑھائیں گے تو لوگ سراہیں گے اور بین الاقوامی سطح پر آپ کو ایوارڈز ملیں گے۔‘‘

دستاویزی فلم کا مختصر خاکہ اور اسے بنانے کے محرکات کا ذکر کرتے ہوئے اُنھوں نے کہا کہ اس کا خیال اُن کے ساتھی ڈائریکٹر ڈینیئل ینگ کے ذہن میں آیا تھا جنھوں نے تجویز پیش کی کہ پاکستانی نژاد برطانوی ڈاکٹر محمد جواد کی زندگی اور پاکستان آکر تیزاب کے حملوں کا شکار ہونے والی خواتین کے علاج کی داستان کو عکس بند کیا جائے۔

’’میں نے یہ پراجیکٹ دیکھ کر بولا کہ یہ بہت اہم ہے۔ ایک عورت پر ایک دفعہ تیزاب پھینک دیں تو وہ ساری عمر اس کو بھگتتی ہے۔ ڈیڑھ سال لگائے ہیں ہم نے اس فلم پر ہمیں اندازہ نہیں تھا کہ یہ آسکر تک پہنچے گی لیکن اُمید تھی کہ اگر ہم اچھا کام کریں گے تو لوگ بین الاقوامی سطح پر سراہیں گے۔‘‘

نامور پاکستانی اداکار و ہدایتکار نعیم طاہر نے وی او اے سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ شرمین کے کارنامے سے دنیا کو یہ پیغام ملا ہے کہ تمام تر مشکلات کے باوجود پاکستانی خواتین کس قدر ذہین اور باصلاحیت ہیں۔

’’شرمین نے دوسرے لوگوں کی طرح پاکستان کے معاشرے کی بدصورتی بیچ کے شہرت کمانے کی کوشش نہیں کی بلکہ امید کی کرن دکھائی ہے۔ تو اچھا پہلو اس کام کا یہ ہے کہ پاکستان کو بدنام نہیں کیا گیا بلکہ پاکستان میں جو ذی شعور لوگ ہیں ان کے کام کو سامنے لایا گیا ہے۔‘‘

اُنھوں نے کہا کہ آسکر ایورڈ جیت کر شرمین نے یقینا دیگر نوجوان پاکستانیوں میں اس شعبے میں ایسے ہی کارنامے سرانجام دینے کی ہمت پیدا کردی ہے۔

’’اب دیکھیے شرمین کہیں سے تربیت یافتہ نہیں ہیں انھوں نے اپنی جستجو سے کیا ہے اس لیے راستہ سب کے لیے کھلا ہے اور شرمین کے ایوارڈ لینے سے اور شرمین پہلے ایمی ایوارڈ بھی لے چکی ہیں تو یہ ذرا زیادہ مشہور ایوارڈ ہے تو دنیا کی زیادہ توجہ اس پر آئے گی۔ مجھے یقین ہے کہ بہت سے لڑکے لڑکیوں کو نوجوانوں کو بزرگوں کو میرے جیسے پرانے لوگوں کو پھر خیال آئے گا کہ بہت سا اچھا کام کیا جاسکتا ہے اور دنیا اس کو پہچاننے کے لیے آمادہ ہے۔‘‘

افغانستان اور ڈیموکریٹک رپبلک آف کانگو کے بعد پاکستان دنیا میں خواتین کے لیے تیسرا خطرناک ترین ملک سمجھا جاتا ہے جہاں ہر سال 100 سے زائد افراد پر تیزاب پھینک کر اُن کے چہروں کو مسخ کر دیا جاتا ہے۔

خاندانی غیرت جیسی دیگر دقیانوسی روایات کے نام پر کیے جانے والےان حملوں کا نشانہ بننے والوں میں اکثریت خواتین اور لڑکیوں کی ہوتی ہے۔ لیکن پاکستان میں ایسے جرائم پر دیگر موضوعات کے مقابلے میں بہت کم کھل کر بحث ہوتی ہے۔

شرمین کے بقول ان کی دستاویزی فلم میں جن خواتین نے حصہ لیا ہے وہ اپنی آواز کے ذریعے لوگوں کی توجہ اس جرم کی طرف مبذول کروانا چاہتی تھیں۔

دستاویزی فلم میں ایک لڑکی اپنی کہانی بیان کرتے ہوئے کہتی ہے کہ وہ 13 سال کی تھی جب اسکول میں اُس نے اپنے اُستاد کو دست درازی کرنے سے روکا اور جس کی پاداش میں بعد میں اُس پر تیزاب پھینک دیا گیا۔

25 سالہ رخسانہ بھی فلم میں اپنی دکھ بھری داستان سناتے ہوئے کہتی ہے کہ اُس کے شوہر نے اُس پر تیزاب پھینکا اور اُس کی نند نے اُس پر مٹی کا تیل چھڑک کر آگ لگا دی۔

صابرہ بی بی بھی تیزاب سے کیے گئے حملوں کا شکار ہونے والی سینکڑوں پاکستانی خواتین میں شامل ہیں، اور وہ محض 15 برس کی عمر میں اس اذیت سے گزریں۔

لیکن اُن کی خوش قسمتی کہ ڈاکٹر محمد جواد نے دو مرتبہ پلاسٹک سرجری کرکے اُن کے چہرے پر آئے زخموں کو کسی حد تک کم کر دیا ہے، اور اب وہ لاہور میں اپنی جیسی خواتین کی مفت پلاسٹک سرجری سے متعلق غیر سرکاری تنظیم اسمائل اگین یعنی ’دوبارہ مسکراؤ‘ میں نوکری کر رہی ہیں۔

اُنھوں نے وائس آف امریکہ سے گفتگو میں کہا کہ ’’شرمین نے جو کچھ کیا ہے اُس سے میری جیسی کئی مظلوم خواتین کا درد کم ہوا ہے ،اور اُمید ہے کہ اس کی وجہ سے آنے والے دنوں میں ایسے جرائم کی حوصلہ شکنی میں مدد ملے گی۔‘‘

اسمائل اگین کی سربراہ اور نامور میک اپ آرٹسٹ مسرت مصباح کا کہنا ہے کہ حالیہ مہینوں میں خواتین کو حقوق کی فراہمی اور اُن پر ظلم کی روک تھام سے متعلق کی گئی قانون سازی بلا شبہ ایک بڑی پیش رفت ہے۔

’’شرمین کو آسکر ایوارڈ ملنے سے (پاکستان میں) متعلقہ حکام پر دباؤ بڑھے گا کہ وہ ان قوانین پر عمل درآمد کو بھی یقینی بنائیں۔‘‘

پاکستانی پارلیمان میں تیزاب کے حملوں میں ملوث افراد کو سخت سے سخت سزائیں دینے کا ایک قانون گزشتہ سال منظور کیا گیا تھا جس کی انسانی حقوق کی تنظیموں نے خاصی پذیرائی کی۔

نئے قانون کے تحت تیزاب پھینکنے کے جرم کے مرتکب افراد کو کم از کم 14 سال اور زیادہ سے زیادہ عمر قید کی سزا دی جا سکے گی ۔ جبکہ مجرم کو 10 لاکھ روپے تک جرمانہ بھی کیا جا سکے گا۔

اس جرم کے خلاف سرگرم عمل تنظیموں کا کہنا ہے کہ پاکستان میں 2009ء کے دوران 53 افراد پر تیزاب پھینکنے کے واقعات پیش آئے تھے، لیکن 2011ء میں ان کی تعداد بڑھ کر 150 ہو گئی۔

شرمین متعدد دستاویزی فلمیں (ڈاکیومنٹریز) بنا چکی ہیں اور 2010ء میں ان کی فلم ’’پاکستان: چلڈرن آف دی طالبان‘‘ ایمی ایوارڈ حاصل کر چکی ہے۔

وزیرِ اعظم یوسف رضا گیلانی نے شرمین عبید چنوئے کو پاکستان کے لیے پہلا آسکر ایوارڈ جیتنے پر اُنھیں ملک کا اعلیٰ سول ایوارڈ دینے کا اعلان کیا ہے۔

شرمین عبید چنوئے کا فن و ثقافت کے شعبے میں پاکستان کا نام روشن کرنا اُن کے اہل خانہ کے لیے بھی فخر کا باعث بنا ہے، جس کا اظہار اُنھوں نے پیر کو کراچی میں ایک نیوز کانفرنس میں کیا۔

شرمین کی والدہ صبا عبید کا کہنا تھا کہ اُن کی بیٹی کا کارنامہ یقیناً پاکستانی خواتین کے مسائل کم کرنے میں مددگار ثابت ہو گا۔

’’(آنے والے دنوں میں) پاکستان ایسا ملک ہو گا جہاں خواتین پر تیزاب پھینک کر اُن کے چہروں کو مسخ نہیں کیا جا سکے گا۔‘‘
