38th Saptak Annual Music Festival - 2018

An Annual Music Festival is organized is organized by SAPTAK every year from 1st to 13th January. Saptak music festival was inaugurated by Pt. Ravi Shankar in 1980 and this event is organised by a public charitable trust which runs the Saptak School of Music.

In its 38th year, world’s longest classical music festival Saptak, is going diverse. One of the most-awaited events in the city, it starts on the first of the new year, continuing for two weeks. There have been dance performances, along with music sessions.

This year’s festival is from 1st of January to 13th of January 2018. With nearly 125 top artistes and about 50 performances spread over 13 days (15 Baithaks including 2 morning baithaks), the music lovers from all over India and abroad converge at the Saptak music festival for an unparalleled experience.

This musical feast will give you an amazing experience. India's most renowned classical musicians, dancers and singers perform here. This festival showcases the best talents of many musicians and singers who preserve classical music and its standards. This is a pure celebration of music. This Saptak Music festival is very famous event in Ahmedabad city for all music lovers. The audience gets treated to vintage khayal performances from the established maestros. They also have an opportunity to experience the Dhrupad Gayaki, Thumris, Rajasthani Folk Music, Instrumental recitals of Sitar, Sarangi, Flute, the Mohan veena, Rudra Veena and percussion recitals on the Tabla, Pakhawaj and even the Mridangam by the great contemporary musicians. Innovative features of this music festival have been Instrument and Dance Ensembles, Tala Vadya Kacheri, Rajasthani and Punjabi folk music. Saptak tries to keeps alive the fading traditions of vocal music like Thumri and Dhrupad, and instruments like Sarangi and Pakhawaj by inviting artists specializing in these fields.

The Arena by TransStadia - India's first convertible stadium

Just 8 kilometers down the road, right next to the Ahmedabad Zoo near Kankaria Lake is another newly developed multi-purpose-stadium, currently just known as The Arena.

The project is worth Rs. 550 crore and has been built on a unique public-private partnership (PPP) model between the Government of Gujarat and TransStadia.

The project is built on a defunct Abad Dairy property measuring about 9 acres in Maninagar

It is Asia's biggest and India's first convertible stadium. It's an outdoor stadium that converts into indoor arena within 6 minutes at a touch of a button.

The facility houses High-end stores on the outside façade, a gym, club, swimming pool, creche and three restaurants on one side. A hotel and three huge banquet halls for meetings and conventions. And sporting facilities as many as 14 sports like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Tennis, Squash, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Swimming and Air pistol/Rifle shooting, etc.

The Arena has an outdoor seating capacity of 20,000 (which is built to FIFA specifications). Using technology licensed from the British firm StadiArena, a portion of the field can be partitioned into a 4,000 seat indoor arena, which was the venue for 2016 Kabaddi World Cup

THE ARENA will surely pave the way for future sports infrastructure projects in the country to be developed by private companies.

Shamlaji, (Shamalaji) is a major Hindu pilgrimage center in Aravalli district of Gujarat, India. The Shamlaji temple is dedicated to Vishnu or Krishna is built probably in 11th century in Chaulukya style and renovated at least 500 years ago. Shamlaji temple is one the best three Vishnu temples of Gujarat along with Dwaraka and Dakor.

Ambaji temple is one of the most important pilgrimage spots in Banaskantha district in the state of Gujarat, India known for its historical and mythological connections with sites of cultural heritage. Ambaji is within the Aravali Range. Ambaji town is in between the borders of North Gujarat and Abu Road of Rajasthan.

It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Ambaji mata temple is a major Shakti Peeth of India.

There is a main entrance in the front and only a small side-door, because it is believed that Mataji (another name for Ambaji) has forbidden the addition of any other door. The temple is surrounded by an open square called chachar chowk where ceremonial sacrifices called havans are performed.

Be sure to look across the temple (i.e. with your back facing the goddess) at the other temple on the Gabbar, considered the original abode of the goddess. At a short distance from the Ambaji temple is a large rectangular kund, with steps on all its four sides, called Mansarovar.

The original seat of Ambaji mata is on gabbar hilltop in the town. A large number of devotees visit the temple every year specially on Purnima days. A large mela on Bhadarvi poornima (full moon day) is held. Every Year from all over the country people come here walking all over from their native place just to worship MAA AMBE in September.The whole Ambaji is lighted up as the whole nation lights up at the festive time of Diwali.

3. The Nobel Prize over the Decades provides an overview of the history of the Nobel Prize and of the Nobel Laureates and their work. It shows the Nobel Prize’s interaction with world events, social development, economic cycles and currents of ideas.

4. The Nobel Prize in Our Daily Lives demonstrates the link between Nobel Prize awarded efforts and our everyday lives within such fields as mobile telephony, vaccines and new materials.

5. The Nobel Prize and the Future invites visitors to discuss how Nobel Prize-awarded discoveries can influence the future and what kind of achievements future Nobel Prizes might recognize.

Whenever you plan a trip to some new destination, always get your tickets booked in advance. When you know that your seats are already reserved, it enables you to travel at ease.

Give due respect to the customs and traditions followed in Ahmedabad. Don't use abusive or vulgar language that does not sound good to hear. By speaking bad words, you can even put yourself into trouble. So, don't perform any deeds that go against the code of conduct established by the localities.

Don't indulge in unethical actions like causing harm to the heritage buildings of Ahmedabad. If you dare to do so, you might have to face serious consequences.

Wherever you'll go, frauds would be surrounding you. So, you need to beware of them. Ensure your safety from the crooks. Right from porters to tourist guides to auto rickshaw drivers, they may try to cheat you by extracting more money and misguiding you.

Take adequate health precautions. Don't binge on unhygienic stuff. Avoid uncooked, raw and processed foods. Try to have a good quality and fresh food.

You can wear any kind of outfit in Ahmedabad, but don't put on costumes that reveal your body.

Don't move around in isolation. It is always preferable to walk in a group.

Don't travel in public transport with loads of cash in your pocket, as the pickpockets will always be having their eyes on you.

Most of the monuments in Ahmedabad require you to buy the entry ticket. In such cases, don't try to play games, because if you are caught visiting the monument without the ticket, you might be severely punished.

When you arrive at the Airport, take the prepaid taxis or Rickshaws. These are government approved rates.

In Ahmedabad, always carry a Rickshaw fare card. Rickshaw drivers can be really nasty sometimes.

Always carry a bag of water with you. It is very necessary.

In winters, you will have to pack a lot of winter wear because of the cold. Summers are hot and therefore loose, cotton clothes will do.

Carry sunglasses, scarves and sunscreen lotion during summer visits. In winters, keep a moisturizer with you.

Try the local cuisine and street food of the city.

Bring a phrase book and city guide with you.

Be careful from thieves and take safety measures to protect your wallet.

Always wear a Helmet while 2 wheeler drive and Seat Belt while 4 wheeler drive.

Don’ts:
Do not travel at night on your own unless you know any locals.

Do not wear a lot of jewellery while travelling and avoid carrying cash. Carry a debit card/credit card instead.

LIST OF GATES (DARWAJAS) IN AHMEDABAD

Ahmedabad was founded over the ancient settlement of Ashaval in 1411 by Ahmed Shah I of Gujarat Sultanate. He built the first citadel Bhadra Fort starting from Manek Burj, the first bastion of the city.

The Bhadra Fort had eight gates excluding palace gates.

When the city expanded, Ahmed Shah built the second fort which was later fortified by Mahmud Begada in 1486.

The second fort had twelve major gates and other smaller gates. After arrival of railways, British built two more gates to facilitate the movement.

Later the citywalls were demolished leaving the gates as monuments.

Bhadra fort had eight gates, three large, two in the east and one in the south-west corner; three middle-sized, two in the north and one in the south; and two small, in the west.

Jean Luc Thomas, finds his roots in the traditional music of Brittany and has traveled the world for more than 15 year now to meet people from different arts.
