This seminar has run for four years in Vancouver with great success. Below is a quote from an intern who has attended in the past:

'Thaddeus' structures course is the absolute best way to tacke studying for the Structure ARE. In three days, I learned more about structures than during my entire master's degree. Tips, tricks, supplementary study resources, etc. Thaddeus is entertaining too. Dare I say that he makes structural engineering fun?' - David Zeibin, IA (took the Thaddeus course in 2009)

The Structural Systems seminar offers three full days of workshops, mock examinations, and questions & answers that will focus on preparing Intern Architects for the Structural Systems division of ARE 4.0. these workshops present techniques, strategies and skills that are invaluable to any IA preparing for this exam. Professor Thaddeus is Associate Professor of Structures and Architectural Design at the College of Architecture University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He teaches his ARE review course across North America, and has brought his seminar to Vancouver for the past four years. Each has proved to be invaluable to those who attended. Click here to register now!

Given the nature of this exhibit, all AIBC registrant categories are encouraged to take part, including Intern Architects and Students. Projects do not have to be actualized. They can be completed, or purely idea-based representations.

The exhibit will explore concepts and ideas related to the 2011 Festival of Architecture – an AIBC / Architecture | RAIC Partnership. The festival theme, Architecture on the Edge, acknowledges the many ways in which west coast architects continue to extend the boundaries in such areas as form and design, sustainability, community development and social awareness.

For more information, please visit View from the Edge.

2011 ARE Preparation Seminars

Building upon the success of last year’s ARE Preparation seminars, the IAC committee continues to offer free study sessions in 2011 for Intern Architects who are preparing for the ARE Exams. This year, the emphasis will placed on approaches for working through the vignette portions of each exam, focusing on problem-solving and time management strategies.

Each seminar will generally run from 6:00PM to 7:30PM at the AIBC Architecture Centre. These seminars are designed to provide strategies and other tips for each exam, and are not intended to cover specific exam content. Gustavo focused time on the vignette, showing the class what to and not to do. The building seminar exam content was invaluable.

- "The participants had a good time, they felt that it really helped"

Next up: The Structural Seminar!
This is scheduled for early November. It's not everyday that you get a peek into the creative and domestic life of such an auspicious designer. Renowned North American Landscape Architect and Order of Canada recipient, Cornelia estimates that she's cooked 143,000 meals in 56 years of marriage (minus seven days) that included raising 3 children.

Four additional interviews should be going "live" anytime now.

Under "resources" be sure to have a look at the RIBA 2003 study titled "Why Women Leave Architecture".
