Well, I went and did it!

My main blog, It's OK to be WEIRD! has been moved to a new and improved location. So come by and see the new diggs - I think you'll like the place!

Also, this blog will likely just kinda fade into oblivion... but has a rebirth of sorts in the Review Section at It's OK to be WEIRD! and at Creations by SweetMummy. My quilts will live at Creations, and my reviews, surveys and other such things will be with everything else at It's OK to be WEIRD!.

Do stop by and see the new places! They are starting to feel like home for me, and I like 'em lots!

Contemplating New Design & New Location

I've been looking around the web a bit, wanting to make things at both of my blogs a little more standard and easier to use. My comments here don't have the ability to subscribe, and things like trackbacks and SEO are kinda tricky here. That is probably going to mean going to a Blogger or WordPress blog.

The 2 biggest issues I have found, so far, are: 1) migrating my stuff to a new place (redirecting traffic and stuff) and 2) finding unique blog templates suitable to my themes.

I had considered having someone design my blog template for me - my preferred designer, Diana, is going on holiday until August with 3 jobs already in line for when she gets back. I'm not sure I want to wait that long.

I have also seriously considered trying to design my own template. I'm creative and at least a little computer saavy. I have fiddled with the CSS on my 2 blogs to make them what they are today, so I do know a tiny bit about that kind of stuff.

Any tips on that? Should I even try, or just leave it to the 'professionals'?

It's not an easy decision, and it's kinda been bugging me the last few days. I've got to get some direction shortly so I can move on in one way or another.

I'll keep you posted on what all that is going to look like.

Wear the Pants Day - June 11

On Friday, June 11, wear pants. Why? Because if you're a female, you can.

Or can you? New Moon Girls, the feisty and fun feminist magazine and online community made by and for girls, wants females to observe "Wear The Pants Day" Friday because girls and women around the world are still forbidden or discouraged from wearing pants. Yes, it is 2010, and yet:

Girls and women are beaten, arrested and worse for wearing pants, even loose pants covered by skirts. Just two weeks ago, Indonesian women wearing jeans had their pants confiscated and were ordered to don long skirts. Schoolgirls in Sudan were flogged last fall for wearing pants, and while international outrage helped keep flogging at bay for Sudanese journalist Lubna Hussein, she must pay a fee for the crime of wearing pants. Last September, some 20 Ugandan women wearing pants werestripped and left to walk home in underwear.

So why wear the pants on June 11?

New Moon Girls picked this day because on June 11, 1964, the Equal Pay Act was enacted in the U.S., mandating that women receive equal pay for equal work. Now, some 46 years later, pants barriers have largely toppled in the US; however, American women earn just 77 cents to a man's dollar. Wearing pants today keeps us focused on the work that remains ahead to ensure that our daughters enter a workplace that's finally fair.

It's mind-boggling that it took 100 years and decade after decade of pants activism to get females the same basic right as men to don a comfortable clothing option. But it happened here, and when we Wear The Pants this June 11, we affirm that this right belongs to every female on the planet!
