Cuz we love Canada and Star Wars

In honor of our being Canadians for over 1 month now, I'd like to share this comic:

It made us laugh when we read it. Unfortunately, it's quite small, here on my blog. So you can see a better copy by clicking here.

We love Star Wars and we have lived in Canada for 12 years and are now dual citizens (USA and Canada). So, we thought this was pretty cute! Had to share it!

Symbolism

I'm a very visual person, and I love finding symbols that convey a great message to me, just by looking at them.

I mentioned my wedding band before, and how it was specifically designed for me by my husband. There are 3 stones in it, signifying the 3 individuals in this marriage - my husband, myself, and our Lord Jesus. There's a sort of swish to the design, which reminds me of the ups and downs of life that we continually share together. The stones are channel-set, with the channel a little raised above the surface of the band, reminding me that our marriage takes precedence over all other things in my our lives. And the surface of the ring itself is brushed gold, softening the look and reminding me that my heart's desire is to be softened and molded to be the wife my husband needs more and more.

There is some other jewelry I have found that also has some beautiful symbolism - The Everlon Colllection.

The design of the Everlon Jewelry is stunningly simple, based on the unbreakable Hercules knot. Immediately, seeing these Everlon rings made me think of what a beautiful symbol of everlasting love the knot is.

We usually look at the unbroken circle of a wedding band as a strong symbol on it's own of everlasting, unending love and committment. This Hurcules knot, portrayed so beautifully in the Everlon Jewelry line, goes one step further in my mind. It, too, is a continuous, unbroken 'loop', but it also includes in that symbolism the very real fact that there will be struggles involved in every marriage, and the marriage may have times where it will be tugged and pulled - but when that happens, this knot just get stronger and pulls tighter together. I LOVE that idea!

The sybolism of the Everlon Collection extends to all kinds of jewelry, including some Everlon bracelets that I found quite beautiful. Many of them include several knots, rather than just one. WOW!

If you're looking for something that says a lot, just with the look of the thing, then Everlon jewelry really fills the bill. Whether as a wedding band, anniversary pendant, or special occasion gift, Everlon rings, Everlon necklaces, and even Everlon earrings say much more than "I love you" - they seem to say, "I love you, forever!"

Do Overs

I'm not one to focus too much on the past, I don't have lots of regrets about things I have done in the past, and in general I'm not that materialistic. But every once in a while something pops up that gets my attention and I say to myself, "I would do that differently if I had it to do over again."

A few of those things include: having a different guest list for our wedding (with more of our friends and coworkers and fewer family members who wouldn't attend anyway), going to Class Act (the Dry Grad event) on the night of my high school graduation, getting help sooner for my post-partum depression, insisting on having my hysterctomy about 5 years earlier than I did, and staying on top of my health better along the way.

One thing, that is much more pleasant to think about than some of these others, would be the possibility of changing some of my jewelry. Like I said, I'm not that materialistic, but celebration jewelry (engagement rings, wedding bands, purity rings, mothers rings, etc.) is worth making very special. I recently saw some new jewelery that took my breath away. My very first thought was, "Where was this 14 years ago when we were looking at diamond engagement rings and wedding bands?"

My engagement ring and our wedding bands have a 3-fold theme, incorporating 3 stones in each, representing the 3 partners in our marriage - my husband, myself, and the Lord. We couldn't quite find rings that captured the idea that we were looking for, so my Sweetie designed the rings with the help of one of the local jewelers. Our rings are beautiful, and they completely match one another, and embody what we were looking for at the time so well.

But when I saw the rose gold jewelry over at Kranichs, I was so impressed. Immediately I thought of what we could have done with 3 different colors of gold - now they have yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold jewelry. Think of the possibilities to incorporate the 3 colors into gorgeous, meaningful rings! If I could do that over again, I would definitely consider rings with 3 colors of gold.

I just sort of re-discovered pink a few years ago, after being all into blues for most of my life. So that's also another appealing thing to me about the rose gold jewelry - it's just a hint of pink, and it's so pretty.

Maybe for an upcoming milestone anniversary we may decide to do celebrate with a new tri-tone piece of anniversary jewelry or even eternity bands.

Such beautiful ideas, even if we don't get the opportunity for "do overs"!
