Air India board okayed the leasing of eight Boeing 737-800 Aircraft very recently. The board of the lowest arm of Air India has approved day lease of four aircraft and we lease of another four. The day lease will be for a longer duration whereas the we lease, only for six months. A day lease is an arrangement wherein an airline leases the aircraft without insurance, crew, ground staff, supporting equipments, maintenance, etc., In a wet lease agreement, the airline leases the aircraft with the entire paraphemalia of complete crew, maintenance unit and insurance.

The board also reviewed the performance of Air India Express for three months ending December, 2010. The airlines has not resorted to any cancellation in the period. This development assumes significance as, during the same period in the last year, the Airline had cancelled hundreds of services to the Gulf sector, due to operational reasons.

Since more aircraft are to be inducted into service, Air India Express will be supplementing a good number of routes to its network. According to a higher official, who expressed complacency on the performance of the carrier, there has been a notable improvement in terms of flight operations and revenues. The Airlines had appointed Mr.Pawan Arora as the Chief Operating Officer in Sept, 2010.

Lufthansa Pilots threaten 4 day strike in mid-April

Lufthansa Pilots at Deutsche Lufthansa AG are threatening to stage a new four day strike in mid-April after their union and the airline failed to resolve a dispute over pay and job security. The Cockpit union said on Monday that it had called a walkout at all German location from April 13-16.

They planned to start the strike was delayed until then to avoid disruption during the Easter Vacation and give Lufthansa's Management.

The pilots went out on strike in February, buy the planned four-day walkout was cut short after a day with an agreement to resume negotiations. Cockpit said Lufthansa is offering no pay rise over a 21 month period combined with worsening conditions. It said it would make any concessions and dependent on securing German jobs and their development prospects.

Lufthansa countered that its latest offer to cockpit, made on February 25, addresses Cockpit's concerns over job security. The airline is made an offer that is appropriate to the situation of the company and the economic environment. Also the Lufthansa needs to ensure it has competitive structures and avoid cost increases under any circumstances.
