We know nothing about this dog other than the comment by the shelter “Takes a while to warm up to strangers – needs careful handling. Does not like other dogs.” Headstrong Airedale that is mouthy and has exceptionally high prey drive. NO children, NO Cats, NO dogs, especially NO SMALL DOGS.

Buddy will be with our trainer for evaluation and training. He is not yet available for adoption.

She is loyal to her humans and wants to do well

She is caring and follows her people everywhere

She has manners when it comes to sit, stay, wait, down, waiting to be released for her food, and heel. She knows how to heel but is a stubborn and strong hunter that gets easily distracted. Distractions vary from leaves, frogs, sticks, bees, squirrels, chipmunks, wind, humans, and of course dogs and cats.

She is protective of her home and her people

She will greet visitors and settle quickly once they are inside our home

She gets rambunctious with kids but easily tolerates loud noises, loud kids, and lots of kids coming at her to pet her and get attention. She must be on a leash and reminded not to jump and to go easy because she thinks she is a small dog

She is house-trained and goes potty when walked or taken out into the yard. She does not bark at the door to be let out, so we keep her on a solid routine

She is an excellent car rider who loves to have the wind in her face and to smell all the smells

She loves a good pup cup

She can be left alone in the house and will nap in her bed without disturbing things. Initially, she would chew a kid’s toy when they were left out. We are now careful to make sure she doesn’t have the opportunity and keep things out of her each

She loves her toys and carries her favorite toy of the day around the house

She sleeps through the night and will come to wake you up if she must go potty before her regular wake-up time

She does well with being groomed and tolerates the full routine. She is a bit sensitive about her feet and will let you know when overstepping her comfort zone

She does well with ear cleaning and getting her teeth brushed

We bathe her in between grooming appointments and while baths are not her favorite, she does enjoy the attention

She is good with the vet and at the groomer and loves car rides.

Bear was surrendered because his person died and the wife is looking to rehome him. She has her hands full with their other dogs. Bear is estimated to be about 60 lbs, he is up to date with vaccines (except Bordetella), and he needs to be neutered, microchipped and heartworm tested. ARG will pay for those items. Also if he were to be heartworm positive ARG would pay for treatment.

He has been living in a double enclosure with 1/2 being indoor space. It is unknown if he is house trained because he was not been in the current owner’s home.
Update: Patton is in a foster home and did well for a short time. She is with an older female Airedale and although initially tolerated her; she no longer can be with the older dog. She is a puller on a leash and has reacted when she sees another dog; ongoing training may help to work through this with someone who can handle a large dog.

Meet Patton, an almost 5-year-old female Airedale seeking a new home of her own. Patton’s owner could no longer care for her due to an extended illness. This girl loves people and was in a boarding facility for way too long. She is a good size girl at 80 pounds, is vaccinated, and spayed.

She is crate trained, although prefers not to use it, and walks nicely on a leash although she does react to other dogs by barking and lounging (redirecting is getting more difficult). Patton is a sweet dog, loves to cuddle, and has never been around children or cats. Since being in long-term boarding she does not tolerate other dogs and she has never been around cats.

Patton is in foster care and needs to find a home of her own. Currently, her foster family is having to separate her from their older dog. Patton is friendly but needs to learn to trust and love again. She loves to wrestle, give kisses, and play ball. She is friendly with every person she encounters and has never shown aggression toward strangers. She gets grumbly when grooming around her bum and feet and face but has never tried to bite. The groomer lays her down for her nail trimmings, but she is good about having her nails done.

Patton will NOT be placed in a home with children under 12. A fenced yard is required.

Patton is in SC. If you are an approved adopter with ARG (AL, GA, NC, SC, TN) and are interested in giving Patton a foster-to-adopt home, willing to work with a dedicated positive reward trainer to address Patton’s behaviors, please contact ARG at info@airedaelrescuegroup.org Out-of-region adoptions to nearby regions may be considered if the interested person is already approved within your region and agrees to provide a significant portion of the transport drive.
Tucker is an 18-month-old, 85-pound Airedale needing to find his forever home. He is a big lug who does not know his own size. Tucker will do best initially as an only dog, but does have the potential to share a home once he has learned some manners.

Tucker is being fostered in TN with an experienced Airedale family who writes “Tucker has a loving heart and so wants to be someone’s best dog. He needs work but not much. Tucker loves to chew- loves ball playing. His listening skills are not the best but he has been in several places before coming here and I can see small changes and improvements. Drinks a ton and loves the fresh cool water. peed- pooped regularly. He lets you brush him, feet a little iffy, and stretches out for a belly rub; this guy is a mile long. I bet 5″5″ on hind legs! After 2 days here I saw a vast improvement in listening; he so wants to please. Started leash walking outside the backyard; pulls a bit and have not encountered any deer or dogs/ people yet but so far so good. By the third day, he is mostly settled in.

Commands, sit, down, stay, wait, house, kennel all decent. Off and leave it decent. Continuing with down before food. Takes treats gently. The guy is a big teddy bear but doesn’t know how big he is. And actually, weight-wise we have had bigger but height and length he is in 95% tile.

‘He needs a structured environment with positive commands. A bit pushy going outdoors and sneaky doing so as he waits and goes out behind you. Has some separation issues though in 4 days those have dropped off some. has shown to be a bit mouthy; mild though. Counter surfs a bit and will jump up on people; we are working to correct that.

Huey is just almost 4 years old and needs a home with a good dog leader. He does not respect people who will not give him direction and set boundaries and because of his attitude has been returned to ARG and is looking for a new home. Huey is almost 70 pounds.

Like many Airedales, he is known to be a hole digger if left to his own devices, barks when someone new enters the home, is best in an adult-only home without another male dog or cats. Huey has never been around cats. Huey is with a trainer in NC and she tells us “Huey is doing well! He gets a bit push and mouthy once he feels comfortable. We are working with him daily. He behaves like a wild man some days – which means that he is comfortable. Huey needs reality checks frequently but is receiving a lot of redirection and positive reinforcement and praise. Huey is a good dog,; he is wild but not uncontrollable and he is happy, exuberant, and joyful wild.

Took is a very handsome dog. He is a beautiful caramel color with a light saddle. Took was surrendered to Airedale Rescue Group in December 2019 and adopted in January 2020. Sadly, he is too much of a dog for the folks who adopted him with some of his behaviors. Took is named after the fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings.

Took is 80 pounds of pure muscle and is your typical 4 year old Airedale, up-to-date on vaccines and is neutered. Took is loving to his people, super-intelligent, robust and physically healthy, and stubborn! He does not like other dogs and will do best in a home with no other pets, no children, and a strong, experienced leader. Like many terriers he will dig huge holes in the yard if left to his own entertainment. He is leash trained but can be reactive to other dogs when on leash but can be controlled or redirected (barks, lunges). He tolerates grooming and is fussy about paws, face and behind, he is a good car rider and loves to eat but is allergic to chicken. Took is also afraid of thunderstorms and loud noises, and hates cats.

He had an injury of a radial fracture of the front right leg when he was 1 year old and had his right upper molar removed when he was 2 years old. Took arrived shaved down including his leg trimmings thus that turned out front leg is fairly noticeable, but it certainly does not seem to stop him. He has lost some weight due to daily exercise but could stand to loose a bit more to help out the joints and that front leg.

Took has been with our trainer for nearly 3 weeks and is learning to be respectful of other dogs at a distance. She writes that he is walking really well on a leash in loose heels. Easy to correct off of chasing squirrels etc as long as I keep a short leash at my side. He generally chooses to be with me or my husband and is fixated on him when given him some off-leash time. We are working on some general manners such as waiting at doorways, sitting for touch, food or toys and walking at my side. He is very responsive to guidance. He loves to run and play fetch and tug. He is very respectful with his mouth. No resource guarding. Took is a super cuddle bug and very much seeks touch and interaction! He does not seek his crate but goes in when asked and no protests about being left in the crate.

His dog’s reactivity will take time and consistency, but he is taking direction in terms of not reacting when given guidance and showing him I will keep the dogs away. I think Took will need someone that is a clear leader such that he trusts his handler’s direction.

Took has a stunning face and will be gorgeous when his trimmings grow back in.
