It's been quite a while since I've posted here, so I'll just go ahead and show some sample shots of the new profiles that are available (the watermarks are not on the actual prints). I've also included some close-ups to help show the level of detail included in each profile. This is a United 727-222 Advanced, registered N7256U, in the "battleship" blue and gray livery that was introduced in 1992. The color scheme was quite clearly influenced by Stephen Wolf's fetish for blue and gray paint - something he forced upon Republic Airlines eight years prior (albeit to a lesser degree), and on USAir (whose name he <del>butchered</del> changed to US Airways) in 1996. The 727-200 continued to fly in these United colors up until the fleet was very abruptly retired in late-2001, as the company whittled away at its fleet to cope with the post-9/11 travel slump. This profile also debuts the starboard side profile for the 727-200, which opens up more print options :) Below are some shots of the profile.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 106px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/TAxeeJLYr7I/AAAAAAAAADU/8QlHzYiWflg/s200/forumN7256Uboth.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479858718555811762" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 143px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/TAxgDRER7kI/AAAAAAAAAD0/8sPEaIjoZPM/s200/N7256Ucloseups.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479860455840280130" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 130px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/TAxe3KmyaFI/AAAAAAAAADc/5-58-GIWN0U/s200/Preview+N7256U+Print+(Left).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479859148435908690" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 130px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/TAxe3fST1MI/AAAAAAAAADk/6At9-yG3iAM/s200/Preview+N7256U+Print+(Gear+Left).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479859153987163330" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 130px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/TAxe35jJ7dI/AAAAAAAAADs/hyy9Nu6mjug/s200/Preview+N7256U+Print+(Both).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479859161037139410" />

The MDD-inspired Boeing logo behind the "Boeing 727-200" titles has been removed to maintain the print's overall chronological accuracy (the current Boeing logo was not introduced until 1997). Featured is Northwest's "bowling shoe" colors introduced in 1989. Aircraft registration is N286US, a 727-251 Advanced delivered to the airline in 1977 and retired in 2002. The following shots are previews of the print layout for the profile, one with gear up, and the other with gear down. I'm still ironing out the specifics, but the standard print size will be 11" x 17". Other sizes are available upon request. But I definitely have been liking the results! Below is a preview shot of the wing. Just need to add the wingtip and the smaller bits. Surprisingly, the most frustrating part to finish was the leading edge fence. Go figure. I love the visual effect that I got by slightly varying the bare metal tone of the individual leading edge slats. Thanks for bringing that up, Mike ;) Kind of hard to see in the preview pic with my watermark over it, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 100px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/S9JJoQKBgsI/AAAAAAAAACE/DKDSJp0UKLk/s200/blogprogresswing042310.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463510253834437314" />

Below are a couple of work-in-progress shots showing off the nose and wing sections of the 727-200. The main gear is now virtually complete, and I still need to create the hydraulic hose for the nose gear assembly. The cockpit and cabin window colorization is still being tweaked, but I think I'm getting closer!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 102px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/S71RfsWxhzI/AAAAAAAAABs/Ntgc71X4ErI/s200/blogprogressnose040710.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457607928367384370" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 95px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/S71RmJyLaQI/AAAAAAAAAB0/hbjPvhRdvWg/s200/blogprogresswingroot040710.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457608039346170114" />

Below is a WIP screenshot of the nose section on the 727-200 with all of it's glorious details. A few things to note here:

1. The cockpit and cabin windows will be colored in appropriately. The flat gray look of the cabin windows is only temporary, Mike ;-) I've drawn in some basic interior details inside the cockpit windows that will hopefully be used as silhouettes for the completed look.

2. As with the cabin windows, the silver frames around the first three windows are only a basic shape that I used for test fitting, though the very first one has a rough highlight to it that I was playing around with.

3. The various tiny antennae along the top and bottom of the forward fuselage have not been finalized. I drew out a few antenna options, but the number and placement of them vary quite a bit from aircraft to aircraft, so the final configuration will be made later on for each individual livery.

I'm still not too sure how I'd like to portray the various panel lines on the finished product, so for now they'll just remain as gray lines. They are just some of the millions of things that I'll be playing with and tweaking as my first profile attempt in Illustrator continues to progress.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 148px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/S6G4i1VXG4I/AAAAAAAAABU/eyfa-v4VF30/s200/progressnose031710.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449839932666747778" />

One of the components I was really looking forward to for the new 727-200 was the engines, and how much more accurately I would be able to depict the famous JT8D. Below is a sampling of the various engine options that I've developed for use with the profile, depending on livery and time period. Although I haven't yet done the JT8D-200 for the Super 27 option, I definitely have plans to create it. At the very least, it'd be great to do a TransMeridian 727-200 with the Super 27 conversion. Such a great little airline that faded away much too quickly.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 170px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_mLc9s7zTh2w/S4tUdd91w_I/AAAAAAAAABE/nX2oo53he8o/s200/progressengines021910.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443537439844320242" />
