The WNYAL will be holding there next Operation on August 18th - 20th. It will be based on the Tet Offensive. They are expecting well over 100 people to attend the OP. Save the Russian! One of the members of the WNYAL had some legal problems this year. The WNYAL held a one-day OP to help this individual pay for some legal fees. This is how dedicated they are. Thanks to Tim for this great video of that day.

ESS has a new goggle out that will surly appeal to the high end airsofter. The new ESS TurboFan. They are a streamline goggle like the popular profile style goggle. It sould run all weekend on two AAA's. They are sure to be on my list for 2006. They should be in stock by the end of March.

The WNYAL held a Ultra Realistic OP on the 4th of February. Teams from Buffalo and Rochester NY set out on a complicated operation of espionage and military tactics. The people who participated seemed to have a great time. Teams were given objectives like retrieving a operative from the local mall and clearing a safe house. Then transporting him over 70 miles to the farm house to keep safe for over 6 hours of attacks. I have included some raw footage. I will put them up in three parts.

Winter War 2006
It was in the 20’s and the fire was just melting the snow from your boots. WNYAL had a Winter War. The day started about 12:00. The first operation was a tactical retreat. Due to the cold a lot of guns went down before the fighting even started. The last game was a CQB “Hold the village”. The day ended with stories by the fire and a bit of bragging. Good times were had by all.

The Noob layout

When you are new to airsoft you may feel the urge to go out and buy everything you possibly can. I am telling you fight the urge. Some people (including myself) who have that addictive personality and want everything. That can be good and bad.

A few things the new airsofter needs to start out down the right path. One of the best things to do is look at what other people are using. You will see some people decked out in full military spec down to the blousing on their boots. Others have just some shorts and a t-shirt. I hope to help you get to a comfortable middle with the least amount of cash.

First thing you need is a gun. Look at what people are getting. If you have been saving your allowance all year and you have a nice little nest egg go ahead and get that full metal, tight bore, CQB, sniper hybrid. If not you can do just as much damage with a good “clone” for 1/5^th of the cost. I have seen people take out whole squads with a spring pistol. It can be done without breaking the bank.

Second would be some cheap camouflage. I would recommend bdu.com. For $40 you can get a nice set of your choice camouflage top and bottom. If you are tight on cash you can try cheaperthandirt.com and look at the flectar. I picked up a set and a field jacket for under $15.

Third but actually should be number one is eye protection. Try not to skimp on this one. If you are coming from paintball you should already have a full-face mask. They work great. The anti fog will help in the woods. You can also get mesh goggles. They will help with fog but they will hinder you vision at night. What ever you do make sure they are tight on your face with no space for a bb to get in.

Last thing you will need are bb’s, battery, and charger. BB’s are available at AirsoftNY.com or at one of the WNYAL games. Plan on spending $15 for the day. Depending on what gun you got would depend on the type of battery you get. The most common type is an 8.4 NiCad 1800mah. If your gun did not come with a charger you can get one at your local hobby shop or online. I would recommend a visit to the shop to make sure you get the right type of charger.

G&G is coming out with an AK similar to the CA Ak that is coming out soon. It looks like it will be almost the same externally as the CA which is a good sign considering CA has always been stong externally but not as stong internally. Hopefully they won’t have to recall thier first batch of guns and stick with only one batch of great guns that will dominate the new AKs being released.

I will be doing a review on this gun next week. I hope to have video included.

Looks like Wolf Armories has the new Star L85s in stock right now! They were predicted to be slightly more expensive than a standard AEG because of the overall build quality, but at $700 for a full metal L85 complete with hard case they look like a pretty decent deal if you have the cash to burn.
