The sun shining through all the trees in Newcastle Forest was just beautiful. Above are some of the shots I got. In the second shot you can actually see the sun. It was just beautiful lighting.

Because of the way the sun was breaking through all the trees, it made amazing sinister photos of Steve! I especially love the third one. It really looks like its from a horror film or something! :D

Speaking of horror films, Steve has an amazing blog where he reviews horror films, music, tv, etc that you should all check out if you're interested. Not for the faint hearted or easily offended :P

Relic Graveyard, Abbeyshrule, Co. Longford, Ireland - 2014

I couldn't figure out which one of those shots above I liked more. Which one is your favourite?

The gateway to the graveyard is at the middle of the wall along this road.

I never really think to take some close up shots of around me. I love the droplets on the blades of grass.

There was so many wonderful trees around the graveyard. I'm standing under it in the shot above and you can see the branches reaching down.

As we stood under the sheltering trees Steve looked very handsome :P

We then realised we were walking on chestnuts! I thought they looked super pretty in back and white as well as their nature colour.

Mushrooms in Longford Forest - 2014

I'm not giving away the location of these mushrooms as even though it was last year they may return again this year and I don't want them to be disturbed! I hope to return and get some better photos. Steve and I just stumbled upon them! All different kind of ones and so pretty!

All that is missing is a few fairies :)

Foxhall in the Snow - 2015

We're getting incredible heat here in Ireland at the moment so of course it's the perfect time to post my shots of Foxhall covered in snow back in January.

A wonderful tree on the road towards Foxhall graveyard. I must get a photo of it again now in July to compare with this snowy shot!

Be sure to click into this photo to view it a bit better. This shot I thought might have turned out a bit better. It's Foxhall graveyard from the field opposite. I got up to the highest point I could for this shot. My toes nearly froze off! It was also getting pretty dark at this point and you can't see as much detail as I thought you would but its a nice shot to have of it all in the snow.

October in Ardagh, Co. Longford - 2013

I visited Ardagh, Co. Longford again back in October, I was actually hoping there would be a bit more of a colour change with Autumn arriving but not much had changed yet! It was still very green. I also filmed a little bit with my iPhone. I will link the video below so scroll down and enjoy the photos before seeing the video! :)

St Patrick's Church of Ireland & Graveyard.

Some flowers getting the last of the nice weather before Autumn comes along.

The Clock Tower was completed in 1863 and commemorates Sir George Ralph Fetherston who managed Ardagh House and its estate. The main inscription on the clock tower reads:

"1863
In Remembrance of Sir George Ralph Fetherston Baronet and of his Life Long Devotion to the Moral and Social Improvement of his Tenantry this Clock Tower and the Surrounding Buildings were Erected and the Site Wheron they Stand Purchased by Frances Elizabeth his Widow."

We walked up towards the old Church and Graveyard but before going in we walked up by it and to a sign telling us all about Ardagh and the different things you could go look at. It told us about a road to The Rectory which was beside us so we walked down a little bit and it was so beautiful! The sun was in the right place and it just lit up the trees! I will definitely be revisiting when the leaves start to change more.

Then we finally went back and visited the Old Church and Graveyard which has been strimmed and mowed since I was last there!

Merle had lots of fun exploring and adventuring around the place! It was great being about to walk around the graveyard better this time and no nettles and long grass in the way!

This was my favourite shot of the day I think. The light was just right and it looked so beautiful! It lit up the tombstones, part of the church and trees so nice.

The Church of Ireland which was only recently renovated. We did meet a lovely lady there who was mowing the grass around the Church and she told us about all the renovating, let us see inside the Church, which you can only go into so far and then they have a fenced gate to protect the inside from intruders. It's really beautiful inside. I signed the guest book saying "Beautiful! Great place to take pictures" or something like that. I spelt "beautiful" wrong though which I was raging about but I was talking at the same time as writing it Oh well haha!

The gate in the photos is the Lych Gate. Coffins of the dead were traditionally met by a clergyman at the Lych Gate. The Gate is amongst one of the few surviving in Ireland.

And to finish up some more photo of lovely Merle! He had great fun going around and sniffing, exploring and adventuring everything!

I didn't get to go back to Ardagh to see if there was any more change in the autumn colours. If we have any nice weather at all I will be sure to go and see if I can get any more photos. It's a beautiful village! I also have to get some more photos of my home village Legan before winter kicks in. So keep watching! :)

Legan, Co Longford 2011 Floods

I found some photos that I had taken back in 2011 of the floods around Legan after some very heavy rain we had for awhile. Unless you're from Legan Co. Longford yourself, you're not really going to see how flooded it got or know where the photos were taken! I've explained the locations best I can though and I thought I'd upload anyhow for my Legan viewers!

The three of those photos above were taken down the bog road to the Inny River. Just at the turn at the end of the road (clay shooting to the left and bog/Inny River right).

Standing on the little bridge just down from the turn to Smithfield and before the turn to Foxhall crescent. The Black Water flooded so much it was just nearly covering the bridges arches!

Merle Part II - July 2013

Some more photos of my playful and crazy pup Merle! Taken about a month or so ago. He is growing so much and has already changed! I will have some more recent photos soon :)

I got him this lovely fluffy ball and he loves it! I only used it now for when he is playing fetch because he is chewing it up too easy when he is left alone with it!

Look at the cute! I think he has a bit of grass in his mouth! He is mad to chew everything that is outside.

We gave him an ice cube and he didn't know what to do with it! It is hilarious watching him being so confused by it and not being able to bite it or keep it in his mouth too long. It was perfect for cooling him down in this hot weather though. Here is a video of him vs a later piece of ice! :D

Merle's First Trip to The Bog - July 2013

I have to say I was quite worried about bringing Merle to the bog. He is only a puppy and still has lots to learn. There are many bog holes, drains, ditches, etc. for him to get lost in but at the same time I didn't want to keep him on the lead. Dogs should be able to run around the bog. It is one of their favourite places! So I chanced it and I have no idea if it is to do with his breed (Collie, Labrador, Setter) but he was so good and didn't stray far from us! Only on one occasion did he try to go down the bog hole but Daddy to the rescue! He grabbed him just as he was going down and gave him a few slaps and now if we see him near one we just sternly call him and he knows ;)

The bog is no place to be in in such heat. We're having (or were having) a heat wave and there was not a breath of air but just lots of cotton floating around!

Bog cotton! Our bank (where our turf is cut) always had bog cotton growing over it but this was the most I had ever seen. We were picking up the footed turf which had been there so long the cotton and grass was growing all over it. It was so hard to pick up! You just ended up with lumps of cotton in your hands. Between that and the heat and making sure Merle didn't wander down any bog holes it wasn't a fun time at the bog.

Merle did seem to enjoy himself in between laying down in what shade he could find from the heat (He liked to hide under the tractor and trailer)! Here he is with Steve when Johnny was moving the tractor.

With four of us loading the trailer it was done fairly quick but obviously I had to break to take some photos ;)

You can see some dirt on Merle's tongue! He was having a great time trying to eat all the turf Daddy was picking up and just anything else he could find!

Legan, Co. Longford, Ireland - 2011

At the moment I'm going through some of my old photos to see if I've missed any photos that I wanted to put up. I think quite a lot of these ones I'm about to show you I actually didn't like at the time. But going back through them I have to say I like them a lot better now! Don't know what I was thinking at the time ;) Luckily I rarely delete any of my photos, so at times like this, it comes in handy!

All of these were taken somewhere in my hometown village Legan, Co. Longford.

Merle Part I - July 2013

Say hello to my new pup Merle! His mother is a Blue Merle Collie and his father was a mix between a Labrador and a Red Setter. I'm pretty sure that is why he has all those lovely colours and patterns ;)

I got him on the 4th of July when he was just 8 weeks old and old enough to be away from his mother. He was a bit nervous in the car when we brought him home but he soon made the house his own! He loves to chew everything ;) Luckily a stern voice will put him in his place! He has lots of toys for chewing but always wants to chew everything but them! But he wouldn't be a puppy if he didn't want to chew everything before him, would he? His name is Merle after Michael Rooker's character in The Walking Dead but also the name is taken from his mothers breed.

These photos were taken when he arrived to his new home. He now has a much longer snout and his legs are so long and dangly! He has not stopped growing.

He loves to chew Steve's hands and his beard and his face and well he'll just about chew every bit of him haha!

He is lovely and playful like every puppy should be. He loves running, tumbling and knocking head first into the long grass and rushes! He eats every single piece of moss he can find along with anything else that is lost in the garden waiting for him to find.

I will have some more posts about Merle in future. Trying to take as much photos of him as I can as he grows!

Ardagh Part III - 2013

Part III of photos I took in Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland! (Don't forget to check out Part I and Part II)

I cannot find a name of this church and graveyard. As far as I can tell its usually called The Old Church and Graveyard. A medieval church was believe to have originally stood at this site. ‘Big Pat Farrell’ a leader of the insurgents at the battle of Granard where he was killed in Sept. 1798 is suppose to have been buried there. It is very overgrown at the moment so we couldn't get a look at the graves to see if we could see any names or anything. There was nettles everywhere and we were both wearing shorts so we could only walk inside of it and back.

Inside there is a tomb protected by an iron rail. Luckily just around to the right the rail is all coming apart and you can sneak in.

The tomb reads:

"Father keep through Thy own name
those whom Thou hast given me
Thine they are"

I have no idea who the tomb is actually for. There is a plaque above it that maybe tells you something about it but it was very wore and overgrown.

Inside the church when you look out one of the windows there was a little flower growing on the ledge. I tried to get the tomb and trees lit up in the sun in the photo as well.

Before we left Ardagh I got a shot of the road and lovely trees making an arch as you drive out. So pretty!

That's all of the photos of Ardagh! I will have to visit again as there is a few more things to get photos of including their Clock Tower which I couldn't get a shot of because the sun was right behind it and you wouldn't have been able to see it! I plan to visit sometime again in the evening with softer light and see what shots it gives me.

Ardagh Part II - 2013

Part II of photos I took in Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland! (Don't forget to check out Part I here) These shots are mostly all of St. Patrick's Church of Ireland. It was built in 1810 so it's very old. It was just recently done up and is looking a lot better than it did. For more info on Ardagh, you can read it here. These photos won't be up on Facebook or Flickr until I have Part III up so enjoy!

Every time we drove by Ardagh this was a shot I always wanted to take and finally got the chance! I love all the purple flowers! You'll see lots more of them in the next few photos :P The house in the distance is Ardagh House.

Ardagh Part I - 2013

I'm a bit late with this post but finally got through all the photos I took in Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland! It was a beautiful day and I got tons of photos. This first blog post is actually part one or three! :-o So I will link the others in this post when they're up. I will also upload all photos to Flickr and Facebook when I have all blog posts up so it will be exclusively on here for awhile hehe! Anyhow enjoy the first batch of photos and be sure to let me know what you think!

We parked just beside a tree in the grounds of St. Brigid's Church. This photo was taken under it of just the end of the Church on the left and on the right a house (priests house maybe?) and the green in the center.

Out the back of the church there is a lovely walkway through trees.

Pretty Steve!

The ruins of St Mel's Cathedral which was founded by St. Patrick and St. Mel was the first Bishop. Read more about it here. It has some great history.

A grave in the graveyard beside the ruins of St Mel's. The flowers look like Forget-Me-Nots but I think they're too dark in colour? I don't know much about the flower so let me know if you have any idea what it is. It looked lovely all along the grave.

St Patrick's Church of Ireland was built in 1810. The entrance to the churchyard is marked by a Lych Gate where the coffins of the dead were traditionally met by a clergyman. The lych gate is a very unique feature of this building and is amongst one of the few surviving in Ireland. Got that info from here.

Abbeyshrule Part II - 2013

We were going to walk down along the Canal when we noticed you could walk down along a lane way. We have no idea where it brought you but I thought I might be able to get some photos of the Abbey through the trees and I was! In the photo above you can see Abbeyshrule Abbey on the left and you can also see the Inny River on the right going down through the bottom of the photo. It was the best shot I could get of both of them.

I zoomed in a bit closer.

Just near the end of the lane way there was some lovely trees. This was one of them.

The lane way was actually a lane to someones house! Such a beautiful place to live!

We then decided to walk over to the Abbey. On the way you walk over the Inny River Bridge.

Inside Abbeyshrule Abbey isn't very impressive. A lot of it is closed off because its falling down. I do hope it gets fixed up. I took this photo of the archway out before we left.

Abbeyshrule Part I - 2013

We visited Abbeyshrule on Saturday so I could get some photos and we could go for a walk. The weather was really unpredictable. At first it was nice and sunny and then the next minute it was pouring rain. So in some of the photos you can see its very cloudy but other times there is nice blue skies! Oh Ireland and its weather :P I will have to visit again as much as I can cos there is lots of photo opportunities. For now enjoy the photos I got this time! :)

At first it was so nice and sunny and then the next minute it poured. I took this photo of the canal standing under the bridge to get away from the rain. You can see some of the ripples in the water from the rain.

We met some nice ducks!

Only three and they were strange. Just all staring at something we couldn't see. When I got this shot they had decided to stretch their necks. Next time I have to remember to bring some bread. They get very friendly and come a lot closer when they think you have something for them!

I was standing and waiting for ages to get both of those shots above of the little house through the canal bridge. Finally the sun came out and I got the shots I wanted.

I wish I could have gotten closer for better detail but the green on their heads is amazing! So pretty.

Templepatrick Graveyard - 2012

Steve brought me to a graveyard down the fields through the mud, under electric fences, over barbed wire and through briers. I took what photos I could but it was very dull so they're not the best.

Grave Hunters - 2012

Ah Grave hunting. One of my favourite hobbies! I actually can't remember or don't know the name of this graveyard. If I find out I'll let you know!

Some of the graves dated back to the 20's and 30's so it was a very old graveyard. Very overgrown with a ruined Church in the middle of it. I meant to try and visit it again on a better day. It was very dull when I took these photos.

We then visited another graveyard that wasn't too far from it. It was a graveyard that was still being used with no very old graves so it wasn't what we were looking for but we did spot this, a grave of a Princess. Sad but awesome!

Henry Rollins - 2011

I have seen the wonderful Henry Rollins twice now. Galway in 2011 and Dublin in 2012 and I hope to see him many times in the future as long as he keeps coming here! For anyone who doesn't know Henry Rollins (you should!) he's a spokenword artist/musician/writer/most awesome person ever and you need to see him live. He stood up on stage and spoken for 3 hours straight without breaking or even taking a drink of water. His stories are funny, tragic, sad and unbelievably motivating. Do not miss him!

These photos were taken back in 2011 at the Black Box in Galway. I brought my DLSR with me and my Nifty Fifty (50mm lens) and hoped they would be ok with me taking photos. I took lots and either nobody spotted me or they don't mind people taking photos, either way I'm so happy with the photos! As you can see there was so much black and not much light so some photos are blurry cos I haven't really practiced in low light situations but I was really happy with the shots I got even if they aren't perfect!

He has some wonderful facial expressions! :P I took lots more photos and you can view them here on my Flickr!

Steve at Tristernagh - 2012

Taken the same day as Tristernagh - 2012.
I have these uploaded to my private Facebook account and don't know why I didn't upload them to my photography page or put them up in my blog! Silly me! Anyhow here are some photos I took of Steve the day we visited Tristernagh. I just love these photos. The weather was just right and I had a great model :P The light was changing as we moved around to different places and I got some wonderful shots because of it! This is only a few of all the shots I took that day. More can be viewed on my Flickr here or my Facebook page here.

The light was awesome that day and I love how it lights up his beard!

There was mold all over the walls inside the Church and any light getting in was giving off this amazing green glow as well as blue from the sky above. The colours were amazing.

These last three shots are by far my favourite. Steve is so pretty! I definitely need to photograph him some more.

Tristernagh - 2012

We went to another Graveyard! Tristernagh in Co. Westmeath is one of my favourite places to visit. There is a church. Graveyard, grave of a healer priest and a ruined Abbey and Ice House down the fields which I have yet to photograph. This same day I also took lots of photos of Steve so I will have a blog post of those up next! Enjoy!

Someone left a dolly outside the church. Not creepy at all.

Grave and headstone of a priest who was said to be able to heal people so people leave things (money, toys, clothes, etc.) around his grave in hope that they'll get healed.

There is an alter in the ruined church in Tristernagh were people have left candles (mass might be still said there now and again I'm not sure), teddy bears (very sad looking ones), crosses, rosary beads, money, etc. I photographed it before, you can see it in this blog post, and someone had left a €20 note there!

Legan in November 2012 - Part I

A walk through Legan on a wet but nice and sunny evening in November 2012. Lots of blues and golds.

Kiernan's Pub that has been long closed. The sun was shining on it perfectly.

A man cycled past. The road and paths were golden from the sun.

I love this shot. I love how the sun just lightly outlines him.

He was a very friendly horse. Again I love the light on him.

The lane way I was walking down. It brings you down towards Legan Rock. I love how massive the trees are. They really show their size in this photo.

This is one of my favourite spots along the road. I just stood on the ditch (which Bailey hated, she has no patience :P) and waited for the sun to set a little more and it lit up the top branches of the trees and in the distance. You can see another photo of it here in my Part II blog post and even more on my Facebook/Flickr.

I brought Bailey with me for the walk. She stood here for awhile listening. It's very rare for her to stand still long enough so I can get her photo! Haha! I do love all the golden trees in the background and the pop of red from her collar.
