I was away the last week or so, driving around the east coast with my husband. For a little vacation, a change of scenery, we made it all the way north on the west coast of Newfoundland. I still can’t get over how beautiful the scenery was, driving between huge mountains and sea, saw icebergs, whales, moose and had awesome weather. Now I’m trying to get back into the swing of the city.

Getting back to the computer and checking around, I realized that PX3 had announced the winners for their 2009 competition, which I had entered a while back. I was really happy to see that I had placed 3rd in the student photojournalism sports category with Eight Seconds: The Quebec Rodeos. It’s nice to be up there but I’m shy one spot to be included in the group exhibit of the winners, which is to be held in Paris - ah well, maybe next year! Check out the list of winners.

Likeness Group Exhibit

I will be participating in a group show for the Karsh Festival in Ottawa. The Red Wall Gallery, where the exhibit will be taking place, is on the Karsh Trail. I will be at the vernissage, so if you’re in the area come say hello, I would love to see you.

This image, Untitled (Lachute Market 2), 2008, is part of a larger project called Lost Faces. I was able to create this project thanks to receiving a grant from the Quebec council of the Arts. Last week, I realized that this series had been nominated in the Student Fine Art Series category for the New York Photo Festival (NYPH09). Winners were announced last Friday, unfortunately I didn’t make it that far but I am extremely happy to have made it on the nominated list.

GrandPapa Ben in March

My grandfather is being really patient with me. This project, Reverend “Grand Papa” Ben Lemay is starting to take shape. I’m still shooting so this won’t be completed any time soon. But I am enjoying spending the time with my grandfather.

In the next couple of months, changes will start happening on my website. Some of my new projects will be up and some old ones will be pushed aside. It’s not because I don’t believe in those images anymore, it’s just to make for a more concise website. So, to not hide old images or put them back in a “box”, I’ve opened a Flickr account. This also lets me organize some of my images that are here on my blog, that also get pushed away with time. Nothing big will change here, I’ve just added an alternative way of looking at my work. Bill’s Sugar Camp

Last weekend we went to my father’s cousin sugar shack to see him boil on the last few days of the sugar season. This is Bill on the last step of the process: canning the maple syrup. We got to take a hot can home…oh so, so, good!

I’m aware that there has been quite a lack of posting here, but there hasn’t been a lack of shooting though. I’m in the middle of a couple of projects, shooting and editing and not ready to put them up here. But now with the warmer weather creeping up, I’ll be shooting more randomly. I am still web active, even if not posting here regularly, you can find some of my daily findings/thoughts over at Slightly Lucid.

This shot was taken a couple of weekends ago, while we were driving up to Namur.

Yesterday we took a small trip up to the Eastern Townships. It was a perfect driving day so I thought I would post this driving shot. The reason for the little jaunt was because I was invited to show and talk about my work at Champlain College. I had the chance to spend some time with the fine art students, they were a lovely group and I had a wonderful time.
