“Ma’am, are you okay?” a deep voice says to me.

“I’m not a ma’am,” I say, not bothering to open my eyes or move. He’s confirmed that I’m not dead, so I expect him to leave me alone. I have learned after living in LA for the past three months that the people here aren’t any more considerate than the people in NYC are. I exhale when I hear the lobby door swing shut again.

“I’m such a disaster,” I mumble to myself.

The same deep voice laughs. “A beautiful disaster.” I open my eyes and see golden brown eyes peering curiously at me. I slowly sit up and gulp at the sight in front of me. He grins and my cheeks burn a bright shade of red. His dark brown hair is tousled; it doesn’t look like he’s ever combed it. Dark stubble covers his strong chin and neck. He’s not wearing a shirt - just shorts and running shoes, which allow me to see every perfect muscle glistening from the sweat covering his body. Tattoos cover his torso and arms. Beautiful. I realize I’m staring, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from him if I wanted. He’s too beautiful. I feel my heart racing again, my breath quickening and the sweat forming have nothing to do with my earlier panic attack.

He gently places one finger under my chin, raising it to close my gaping mouth. I flush a shade redder, but I don’t stop staring. He has a gleam in his eyes as he looks intently from my mouth to my eyes and then my forehead.

“Shit, you’re bleeding,” he says, breaking the spell that has come over me.

“I’m sure I’m fine. I just need to get back to my condo,” I say as I begin to stand. He offers his hand to me, and I take it as he easily pulls me into a standing position. He holds onto my sweaty hand for much longer than what is necessary for me to regain my balance. I stare up at him now as he towers over me before he quickly jogs around the lobby picking up every apple, orange, and tube of Pringles that rolled out of my bags when I fell. My mouth gapes open again, but no words come out. I just stand frozen.

“Breathe,” he says, smiling. My face heats up again as I release a breath I didn’t know I had been holding. Get it together. You can’t be into him. It’s too soon. I reach into my pocket to feel the warm green fabric there. It reminds me of what I’ve lost and what I am not willing to lose again. I take a pained breath as I let the guilt wash away.

Kelli grew up all over the East Coast but her
family finally settled in Cincinnati long enough for her

Graduating from the University of Cincinnati with her BS in Nursing, she left
Ohio for Texas and the U.S. Army. She received a medical discharge for a
knee injury, but was able to meet the man she'd one day call her husband
first--thanks to some mutual friends who insisted they would perfect together.
And what do you know--they are!

to finish high school
and college. She has always loved to read books and write her own
stories. In high school, she used to
pass around the latest chapter of the story she was writing for her friends to
read. There is more than one high school
teacher out there that can probably remember telling her to put the book down

Teague tugged her forward. She stumbled but went along. There were a few other machines in the large building, but Teague went to a door on one wall. He opened it and escorted her inside. Shelves lined the storage and supply closet. On one side of the room, she saw a worktable and a set of gray shelves above the workbench.

“Yes, that’s where I want you.” Teague guided her over to the shelves. “See this?”

He reached past her and grabbed the shelf. His hand slid into one of the boxes that separated the shelf into a grid. The particular part of the shelf he grabbed had no divider on the interior, only a wooden strip down the front. He pulled on it. The shelf didn’t move at all. He turned and smiled at her.

“I see it. What’s so special about it?” She raised a brow. Her mind readily supplied her with the possibility of him tying her to that after she’d noticed it had no divider. It sent a surge of desire through her, but she wouldn’t let him know that yet.

“Special, not much. I’m showing you it will hold you when I fuck you hard, but since you still have an attitude, we’ll start off with a spanking. Take off your shirt.” He turned to face her and let his gaze sweep over her body.

A thrill of anticipation shot through her. Her inner muscles clenched. The knot of need low in her belly intensified. She lifted her hands and worked her fingers under the seal. When I return to Luka’s room, he is still sleeping in the exact same position I left him in – sideways, his head resting on his folded right arm, left arm stretched in front of him, towards me, like an invitation.

I set my stuff on the chair and can’t resist. I kneel by the bed next to him and carefully pull the sheet off his body. Dear lord, he is something beautiful. He must have removed his shirt and trousers at some point after I blacked out, but he kept the trunks on and they look rather constricting. I’m not remotely surprised at finding him hard.

“Oh,” she groaned aloud. There he was again, the dark mysterious figure that haunted her more nights than she cared to count. This time, they stood facing each other in the middle of a night-black forest; she was already frightened, her breathing frenzied and her heart pounding. She felt like she was caught in the middle of a Twilight Zone episode—death approached, but it was as if she were stuck in quagmire and couldn’t move.

He edged closer, stepped into the moonlit glade between her and the protective foliage that had covered his form. A werewolf! Briana was shocked. Even though she was a strong person, she was too scared to move an inch. She’d expected a menacing stranger, not a fictional monster. He looked real enough, his body bulky with muscles, and she even noticed a musky odor.

Abruptly, the creature jumped in one great predatory leap, landing directly in front of her. His weight crashed a small branch into kindling as he landed. Strangely, she wasn’t frightened, not now. Why? She didn’t know. Her heart thudded heavily against her chest, her breathing came out in short pants, but from another source entirely—she was turned on. Briana found this startling. "Get him!”

Adam heard those words and turned to run. Outnumbered, he didn’t stand a chance against three of them and knew he was dead. But he ran anyway. He could hear the boys crashing through the trees behind him. Knowing the area helped Adam somewhat. Their ability to run faster, as well as smell him, gave them the advantage.

Hearing the painful yell, Adam knew that one of the boys was shifting. He pushed harder, trying to figure out how the hell he was going to get himself out of this mess. A thought hit him and he grabbed the lowest branch, swinging himself up and into the tree. His plan was to go as high as possible. He could fight them off if they had to hang on to the branches to keep themselves from falling, or at least he hoped.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t counted on them being able to jump quite so high. Ten feet in the air, Adam heard one of them following him up the tree. Glancing below, he saw Lee scrambling not too far behind.

Lee bounded up to the branch below and scrambled quickly to catch him. Grabbing Adam's foot, he gave a powerful yank and pulled him from the tree before he could fight back.

Grunting, he fell out of the tree, landing flat on his back. With a whoosh, the air rushed from his lungs, he gasped to catch his breath. Staring up into the bright yellow eyes that glared down at him, Adam winced from the pain, wrinkling his nose in disgust when the saliva from the snarling snout dripped across his cheek. Squinting, he turned his head away, hoping for a quick and painless death. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Nelson lash out with his booted foot. The first kick landed in his ribs, forcing him to curl into a painful wracked ball.

“You should have stayed away.” Lee circled around, raised his foot and stomped.

Another foot landed with a sickening crack, his arm snapped. Adam clenched his teeth to keep from yelling out in agony.

He glared up at the wolf and the two boys standing over him. “Didn’t your mother ever teach you not to play with your food?” His voice strained with pain.

“Always the smart ass!” Nelson stepped forward and aimed a kick for the middle of his back, laughing when Adam grunted and squirmed on the ground. Looking to the wolf he ordered, “Do it.” He stepped back, motioning for the wolf to move in.

The wolf lunged. Grabbing Adam's leg. His sharp teeth sliced through the material of the jeans with ease, sinking into the fleshy part of his thigh.

“Dinner was amazing. Thank you, Cami,” Talon tells her with sincerity.

“You’re most welcome. I don’t imagine you’re gonna get many home cooked meals these next few week

s.”

No, we won’t. So thank you again.”

Dex chimes in. “That was fabulous. Thank you.”

I smile sweetly at Dex and see a pleading worry in his eyes. I make a mental note to find a chance to talk to him as soon as possible. I need to know how he’s doing after the Kate incident.

As we finish up dinner I lean over to Talon’s ear. “Cami said go ahead with your announcement.”

“Thanks, angel,” he says quietly back.

The conversation continues to flow like it did over dinner. Everything from what everyone does, to their home and family life. I settle into their small talk naturally. Derek interests me most and my suspicions surrounding his dominance are confirmed by the way his wife acts around him. There’s just a certain way she moves and silently seeks permission for certain things. But they are ridiculously happy and it’s infectious.

Beau and Mick are some of the quietest ones and Mick is very attentive to Beau. I gathered from the conversation that she’s about six weeks away from her due date and she’s excited. But no one seems to know the sex of the baby. Which I find sweet.

Tyson, Travis and Tristan are like three peas in a pod. Bantering and having a good time all on their own, while Jolene, Naomi and Cami are obviously best friends.

Cami looks at me as the conversation kind of dies down and I squeeze Talon’s leg and nod. “Again, thank you Cami for the wonderful meal and it is my understanding that we will be heading to a bar shortly?” He looks at me for confirmation and I nod. “Good, okay, so before we go, I wanted to let my guys know something Kyle told me right before we left the hotel.”

“Just spill it already,” Dex teases him.

“Oh hell, I’m so freakin’ excited it’s hard to spit it out. ‘Your Eyes’ has reached the number one spot on Billboard’s Top 100.”

She jerked her hand from his. “Where are we going?”

“Basement. Need you.” He reached for her.

She backed up. “We can’t. Your mom—”

He drew her against him. “You feel that? How hard I am?”

A soft sigh escaped her lips, his only answer.

He brushed his fingertip across them. “I ache, darling.”

She turned her head and sucked one of his fingers into her mouth. The tug connected with his balls. He wrenched his finger free and cupped her face between his hands. “I’m going to take you downstairs and fuck you, Iona. Hard and fast.” Her eyes widened. He loved the shock displayed in them. He brushed his lips over hers. “Then tonight, you’re coming home with me, and I’m going to love you real slow, until you beg me to fill you up.”

She shook her head. “No sleepovers. No commitments. I told you that. Besides, your mom is picking me up early. We’re going shopping.”

Her words danced through his head. Disappointment hit first, then excitement flared. “You didn’t say no to now.”

She swallowed hard. “I don’t know. I want you, but…”

“But what?”

She glanced in the direction of the living room. “What if somebody walks in on us? Your family will assume we’re in a relationship.”

“Nobody will catch us.” With a single finger, he turned her face toward him. “Do you trust me?”

Her cautious nod answered him.

“Good.” That was all he needed to know. He lifted her, a hand on her bottom.

“Wyn—”

He nipped her lip. “Quiet. We only have a few minutes.” He pulled the basement door shut behind them and turned the lock. “And I’m not wasting them talking.”

“You’re serious.” Her whisper matched her widened eyes.

He hurried down the stairs and dropped her bottom on the back of the sofa. “Yeah. I don’t think I’ll survive a whole day without you.”

She clutched at his shirt. “Oh.”

One word. Damn he loved how she reacted to him. He popped the button on her shorts and tugged the zipper. She lifted her bottom. No hesitation. No denial. He held her acceptance close.

“Next time, I’ll worship you. Head to toe. Eat you out. Lick your breasts. Give you everything.” Hand fisted around her waistband, he glanced at her. “You want that?”

She nodded. “Yes. I want.”

“Good, but tonight I need you. Just like this.”

I was standing with a small group of senator's wives. They were giving me tips about life in Washington, where to shop, the best neighborhoods. Though I was listening attentively, suddenly something in my head told me to glance over to Apolo.

There she was…again. Engaged in conversation with him. He appeared to be polite and engaged, but the muscle ticking in his cheek gave it all away to me. That one subtle feature meant he was unhappy. Of course, my glance did not go unnoticed.

"It appears as though you have competition," one of the senator's wives joked. "Whoever she is she's stunning."

"Yes, she is," I replied. "But she's certainly not competition. She's merely an old friend."

"Well, you certainly wouldn't know by the way she's acting," another chided.

She was right. Delpheine was in what Apolo considered his personal space. He allowed no one remotely close to him unless he initiated the move. She had committed one of the big Apolo Choice no-no's, not that she seemed to care.

"Oh, that's just Delpheine. She's French, and they’re much more personally engaged with people they talk with."

Then we locked eyes, Apolo and I. Knowing him as well as I do, I knew this woman was exasperating him. But ever the cool businessman and now politician, he was tolerating her openly flirtatious ways. The moment she placed a hand on his arm in an attempt to lure him in, I saw him quietly remove her offending, well-manicured hand.

He backed away, putting more space between them. I didn't know what he was saying to her right then, but from the expression on her face, I'd say it was not what she wanted to hear.

Excusing myself, I found my way to the ladies’ room. I needed to regain my composure. Whoever this woman was, I intended to find out more. If she thought she could simply reappear in Apolo's life after leaving him in his hour of need, she was sadly mistaken.

Making my way to the line of sinks, I wasn't too surprised to find Delpheine standing there, a smirk on her face as she pretended to reapply her siren red lipstick.

"You do know that he can’t have children because of his accident?"

"Yes, I do," I replied. "Let's quit the bullshit and niceties, Ms. Bouvier. What the hell do you want? You left screaming in horror out of Apolo's life years ago. Now, he's a newly minted senator, and poof, you magically reappear. What's with that?"

"I merely want what was once mine. I intend to have him back, and trust me, it won't take long for him to find his way back to my bed. I will be Mrs. Apolo Choice."

"Good luck with that pipe dream," I spat as I threw the towel on the counter and spun past her. "I don't know what you're smokin', but lady, you don't stand a chance in hell with him. He didn't forgive you then, and he's damn sure not going to forgive you now."

I marched past her and out the door, not leaving myself open for any further comments. As I stepped into the corridor, I noted Jacob casually standing there.

"Ms. White, Mr. Choice wanted me to make sure everything was alright and asked me to escort you back to the ballroom." He was glancing over my shoulder towards the ladies’ room. That meant both he and Apolo knew what was going on. The woman was so transparent.

"Thanks, Jacob."

"Don't worry about Ms. Bouvier. I'll deal with her. If she bothers you again, please let me know."

"I will. I think I got my point across just now. So, Jacob, are you going to enjoy Washington?"

"Yes, ma'am. It's one of best cities around."

We arrived in the ballroom, where he escorted me over to Apolo, who was speaking with a small group. I slid in next to him.

"Thanks for sending Jacob," I whispered.

"I'm sorry. I don't know how she gained entrance, but I'm having it checked out."

"Don't worry, I think I handled her."

He cocked an eyebrow at me with a sly smile on his face before turning to his admirers and guests.

MY REVIEW

What is there to say about Apolo, other than hot, rich, and powerful. I loved the intensity of the chemistry between he and Caitlyn the woman he promoted within his company. I was intrigued by the plot of the story, and found it interesting. I think it was what made it a good fiction book. The probability of something like this happening in real life did not exist. Sometimes those are the best reads.
With that said I found myself wanting to read more about the family equation the author wrote about.
Overall, it was a great read.

Ominous fanfare for her arrival in County Monaghan, lightening shred the fall of dusk. As a grisly storm surrounded the car she rode in, her every nerve vibrated with electricity. The well-read letter in her hand trembled in the heat of her clenched fist. Her last minute research of this part of Northern Ireland had not done the place justice. Beauty that of a rolling and majestic nature even in the dark downpour, stole her already shallow breath.
The thousand slices of light tearing through the sky reflected in the grey water beside the road. The black shadows cast by the trees, Kyna perceived as decrepit, arthritic fingers that reached out for her from the heavy flowing stream. A resounding flood of sound, deep rolling thunder, made her body curl in on itself as she angled away from the car window. The squall so violent, she imagined the glass would shatter. Never one to cower, she swore in a whisper to herself. Ever since she’d landed in Ireland, a someone or a something, specifically an indescribable dark presence, followed her. Sure, it made no sense, but she couldn’t tell her over stimulated brain and racing heart that.
Trying to swallow despite the dryness in her mouth, looking straight ahead, she sought a moment’s peace. Deep breathing exercises had yet to award her any. This unexpected turn in her life over the past few days propelled her toward her wits end. From the moment she’d taken the letter from her mailbox, every part of her being had been altered in some way. From bursts of indefinable energy making her want to run a marathon, to unbidden ideas reminiscent of familiar dreams, to a feeling of having a sixth sense that warned of impending danger, she warred within herself to keep some semblance of composure. She didn’t understand her own body anymore, but had not the time or the mental capacity to analyze the abrupt changes as she traveled.
Erratic thought patterns plagued her instead, a barrage of unanswered questions. Prior to that fateful letter, she’d just been a girl from the foothills of the Alleghany Mountains, having lived her whole life in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia. Her mother’s confession of her true heritage came when confronted with the letter, the damned letter, scrolled in a shaky hand, from an aunt from Ireland she never knew existed.
Apparently, Kyna was more Irish than she knew, as in born in Ireland and adopted through the Irish Mafia into the United States. The father she barely remembered, a man who’d died in a mining accident when she’d been barely five years old, had ties to the organization. She’d been a black market baby, for the love of all that is holy! The adoption had born conditions. Telling the poor child of her adoption stood a deal breaker punishable by death. None of these random facts brought about feelings of safety and security as she traveled abroad to meet her aunt on her biological mother’s side.
The letter, the freaking destroy-a-simple-life letter, ranted on for two pages a heartbreaking tale. Her birth mother, Alana O’Riagain, had passed away a few years ago. Her aunt, Saoirse O’Riagain, now desperately wanted to meet her only living relative. Kyna’s birth father and his family were all long go buried, so whatever perceived danger her mother had given her away to protect her from had passed away with them. Maybe her tired eyes played her for a fool, but even now, Kyna swore that words following danger on the paper in her hand appeared written in an even shakier scroll.
Rain assaulted the car window with the unrelenting onslaught of gunfire. Her pulse beat as if under attack. Another round of multiple lightning strikes, the ones that cross the distance of the sky to the ground, brought Kyna out of her murky thoughts of a re-written past to a clearly foreboding present. Just ahead, the first glimpses of her aunt’s home in Armaugh appeared and disappeared in brief glimpses granted by the windshield wipers and the lightening.
Her breath caught at the vast size of what resembled a castle on a hill. A steep incline of land seemed formed to hold up the formidable three storey stone façade. The structure consisted of several three-sided bays stuck together and one four-storey tower to the right side. On the tower hung corner bartizans. These came into view as they made the steep climb closer to her ancestral home. These rounded turrets cut with windows multiplied her sense of being watched, that some sinister being stood sentinel over her, taking in her every move.
Crazy. All of it. She’d lost it, and she had to get it back in the immediate future. Tough, a fighter in an impoverish world, surely she could handle whatever this display of wealth held for her. But, little made sense. Her past lay in a shamble of lies around her feet. Her future looked, well, scary. She had a lot to sort out, and planned to get right to it once she met her aunt.
Her mouth had remained parched and her shoulders tense since she’d landed in this country. Her body betrayed her in various other ways as well. Strange sensations of heat in her core coupled with flashes of what she could only refer to as static electricity along her limbs, made her feel a foreigner in her own skin.
As her driver grunted and got out, Kyna took advantage of another long streak of lightening to gaze upon this veritable castle of a house. The bays had mullioned windows, curvilinear gables and tall chimneys. While she guessed the stone a light grey in the day, it accosted her with looming shades of smoke, as if old and charred, from her storm-shielded, misty view.
The metallic shriek of her door opening sent a wave of panic crashing over her. From her teeth set on a painful edge to that cold slither of fear down her spine, she forced herself to ignore each physical sensation, each body betrayal. Looking toward her driver, a streak of lightening silhouetted him, made him a dark outline like that of a large monster-figure looming over her. He had several inches on her as well as a bulky, full-muscled build one could only achieve with hours in a gym or steroids she supposed. As he reached for her hand, the strength of his grip intensified to painful when an explosion of thunder rolled over them seconds later. She reminded herself, as way of comfort, what little she knew of the man. Aedan Dunne, employed by her aunt, served as head of security, a man the woman trusted with her life.
In a brief conversation at the airport, Kyna had learned through grumbles of words in response to her barrage of questions, that the man had been injured then forced into an early retirement from the Navy SEALs. Irish-born, he’d come home in hopes of finding similar work, something where a mere leg injury would not be the big deal the military had made it out to be. While he may not be able to hide underwater at night in frigid water for hours like he used to without pain and cramping of the damaged muscles, he could surely protect on land, a home and a woman. From what her aunt had written of Aedan, while he may be short on words, failure wasn’t in his vocabulary.
The cool sweat covering her skin intensified with the firm grip Aedan took of her waist once she stood. While looking at his face, what she could see of it for the shadows created by his hood, sharp cheekbones chiseled into a grimace. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught the image of a man and a woman in black uniforms run to the trunk of the car and grab her belongings in a swift and sure manner. To her, the rain-soaked stones that made up the pathway to the inset of the main door resembled yet another insurmountable obstacle. Really, she’d reached that point in her day. Every little thing currently escalated to dramatic portions. Never the type to make a mountain out of a mole hill, she straightened her spine and raised up her head, determined not to start now.
Yes, life had dumped a whole crap load of change and new discoveries on her. By the looks of things, another dump truck sped her way, but her mother hadn’t raised a quitter. Besides, Aedan’s strong arms and solid frame offered a possible means to diversion if desired. From what her glimpses in the airport had gathered her, outside of being exactly what she’d imagine a SEAL to be, retired he could now pursue a career in modeling with such intense eyes and full lips. Simply put, he had rugged good looks that rivaled anything she’d seen in the movies. He stood beside her an image of masculinity beyond any she’d witnessed before, at least in her mind.
While she dared another look, Aedan focused on getting her inside. With her first glimpse despite the rain that fell in large drops from the hood framing his face, her stomach tightened even more. Locks of dark brown hair fell in long, messy sections on each side of his forehead. Full eyelashes framed moon-shaped eyes, wide with flecks of green and gold shimmering in the house lights. Intense and mesmerizing, she lost her train of thought, even as curiosity and anxiety mixed to further unsettle her.

My Review:

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the book very much. It captivated my attention in a way that this book offered me a quick read and a well thought out story. I loved the way the author described the setting and the characters. It allowed me to fully immerse myself. The relationship between Kyna and Aedan had that sweet appeal that I think many of us found ourselves in at that age. I have to say that though I wasn't surprised by the end, I loved the twists the author presented to me.

Kiki could spend hours lost in a book, and soon she knew that creating lives, loves, and losses with just words had to be the greatest thing that she could do. Krystal Shannan goes to sleep every night dreaming of mythical realms with werewolves, vampires, fae, and dragons. Occasional a fabulous, completely human story slips into the mix, but powers and abilities usually crop up without fail, twisting reality into whatever her mind can conceive.

“I want to kiss you, Ronnie.”

She swept the tip of her tongue out, moistening her mouth and tempting him to feast. “Are you asking permission, or—”

He leaned closer and caught her bottom lip between his teeth, stopping her words. Her shaky exhale washed over him, filling his lungs with the scent of cinnamon. The long-denied craving for her taste surged. She’d always chewed on cinnamon gum or mints. The taste used to drug him. Would it still? She’d been his favorite addiction a lifetime ago.

He grasped the back of her neck and licked the inside of her lip. Her flavor hit him, a punch in the gut he welcomed. It left him a little crazed and a lot horny. On a groan, he kissed her. She opened to him, stroking her tongue with his and feeding him her soft mewling noises, those little purrs of contentment she’d always offered him whenever they first came together. He soaked them up along with the rightness kissing her brought.

She complemented his thrusts and licks with ones of her own. They’d perfected the art of kissing years before they’d ever joined their bodies. It had been his favorite hobby. He’d never been able to get enough. He still couldn’t. Head angled, he delved deeper and sucked on her tongue, tearing moans from her throat.

She twisted her torso and linked her hands around his neck. Nails dug into his skin, she tugged him closer, kissed him harder, and tore his tenacious control to shreds. He rocked into her and let his hands roam over her soft, curvy body.

Primitive hungers beat at him. He wanted to strip her and lick every inch, memorizing her swells and valleys. Maybe spread her thighs and get drunk on her sweet sex. Or push her to her knees and pump into her mouth until he exploded. So many images rose, but it was the need to possess her that made his decision.

He tore his mouth from hers. She panted hard. So did he. The lust they’d shared returned, stronger than ever. He couldn’t wait a moment more.

He rubbed his forefinger over her lips, then slipped it between them. Her breath heated his skin. She closed her mouth over his finger. With a swirl of her tongue, she drew him deeper and held him there for a long moment before she sucked. Hard.

His dick jerked. Precum seeped from the tip. He yanked on his finger, but she bit just to the point of pain, stopping him. His breath escaped in a shudder. He dragged the digit out, her teeth scraping him, and cupped her face between his palms.

“I’m going bend you over your car, lift your skirt, and fuck you, Ronnie. If you have some guy that’s going to hunt me down for making you come all over my dick, tell me now.” He flashed her a wicked smile. “And I’ll make you writhe over my tongue instead.”
