Yesterday, Manju Kiran and Raghunath Thircovil came to the Chennai ColdFusion User Group for the Adobe ColdFusion and Flash Platform UG Tour. Since it's a one day event we had the sessions on Preview of Adobe Flash Platform, Adobe ColdFusion at morning and hands on session on using Flash Builder and Adobe ColdFusion at afternoon. The event hall is jam-packed with more then 80+ attendees from both the ColdFusion and Flex community from Chennai. Adobe AIR is such a great technology from Adobe for developers who wish to use their existing web development knowledge to create Desktop application. If you would like to learn more on using jQuery with AIR please do keep an eye on Andy Mathews and Jason Dean blogs. In my previous post about AIR for Web Developers where I have explained about Installing AIR SDK and creating, testing and running your AIR Application using command prompt in Windows OS and for using Aptana with AIR follow this blog post by Andy Mathews. So now let's starts with a simple example of creating windows in AIR Application. Apart from the initial main window, we can also creates other windows in HTML based AIR application. We can create two types of window and they are called as standard HTML windows which look similar as windows in web browsers and Native windows which look similar to the windows of native Operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux). The Standard HTML type window in AIR can be created using window.open() method with the following parameters.

I have been using Eclipse for ColdFusion development both at my home and work with the CFEclipse plugin and I'm wondering what other developers in the ColdFusion community are using along with CFEclipse plugin for to make our daily job easy and more productive. These are the plugins I'm using along with CFEclipse so please share your plugins for ColdFusion development.
1. CFEclipse ‐ The core for the ColdFusion Development with Eclipse.
2. CF 8 Extensions for Eclipse ‐ This includes Interactive environment for debugging with ColdFusion server, RDS Data view, Log Viewer, ColdFusion Ajax and Flex Wizards.
3. Subclipse ‐ Plugin for Subversion version control system.
4. SnipEx Servers ‐ SnipEx servers are really helpful for to have a handy code snippets for development. I'm using the snippets of CFLib.org by Ray Camden and CFSnippets.org by Todd Sharp both these snippet are very useful.
5. Amateras ‐ Plugin for HTML, CSS, XML and JavaScript with code completion, code outline and code validations. Contents assist for HTML and HTML code preview with source and preview tab feature in Eclipse IDE. Amateras also includes wizards for adding JavaScript libraries, HTML and XML files.
6. XmlBuddy ‐ Plugin for validating XML documents and XML Schemas.

Using QueryParam Scanner

Last month while fixing an issue in my very old code I have found that some of my queries haven't had the cfqueryparam for variables in my SQL statements. So I thought of fixing all these queries in my application and want to implement cfqueryparam for all parameters. But I will take more time to search all the cfquery that are not having cfqueryparam in SQL statements correct but QueryParam Scanner by Peter Boughton will make this task very easier for me.
Installing QueryParam Scanner is really easy just download the code from http://www.hybridchill.com/projects/downloads.html or from http://qpscanner.riaforge.org/ and unzipped its content to your web root that's it you have done. Now you can start scanning your applications for all the missing cfqueryparam tags in the cfquery. The UI of QueryParam Scanner is simple and friendly and it has various options on the result output formats after scanning.

How to Enable Line Numbers in CFEclipse 1.3.2

Problem: I got an issue when I installed the CFEclipse in one of my system at work place. The installed versions are Eclipse 3.3.2 Europa and CFEclipse 1.3.2 beta. In previous version of CFEclipse we have the option for enabling line numbers by selecting "Windows > Preferences > CFEclipse > Editor > Show Line Number Checkbox". But this is not available in CFEclipse 1.3.2. There is another way for enabling is by right clicking the editor and check marking the "Show Line Numbers" this is also not worked for me. After goggling I have found the solution from CFEclipse discussion group. Solution: Navigate to your Eclipse Workspace and open the File org.cfeclipse.cfml.prefs from "Workspace > .metadata > .plugins >. org.eclipse.core.runtime > .settings" folder and add this line at the end of the page.


lineNumberRuler=true

Close the page and restart CFEclipse. Now you can able to see the line numbers in CFEclipse.

So I played with the BlogCFC code and want to say that it's really easy to change the entire theme and implement a new look and feel for your blog. I just wanted to share good news with you all that I have completed my ColdFusion 8 Certification and now I’m an Adobe Certified Expert for ColdFusion 8. I finished the exam exactly in 1 hour and for preparation I have spent nearly half an hour daily to learn about the new tags and function in ColdFusion 8 and it took me really 2 months for the certification preparation. After all the hard work and preparation now I’m an ACE for ColdFusion 8.

Google Chrome Is My Default Browser

Google Chrome is very fast indeed when loading the GMail, Reader, Notes, Docs, iGoogle, Calendar and other Google products and other web sites also loaded very faster than other browsers. Installation is very easy and I have asked to close my Firefox so that Chrome can import bookmarks and other stuffs form Firefox. Here is the list of features I have impressed more with Google Chrome. Application Shortcut feature is great and you can create shortcuts in desktop, quick launch bar and Start menu for your favorite sites.
