It's hard to believe that October is nearly over but here we are. This month's podcast arrives a week early so that I can focus on some Speedboats & Big Explosions-related stuff over the next week and a bit.

Things have been ramping up. We were in studio recording a new track called Wicked Disco with Toronto's MC Prolific two weeks ago and are back recording a couple more vocal tracks over the next few weeks as well. We also just signed a 5-track EP to Muzik X-Press, which is really exciting.

Anyhow - this month's podcast is full of a bunch of great tracks that I am enjoying at the moment. The first half is housier and more commercial, including a number of vocal tracks, while the second is much deeper. Enjoy!

We're switching gears this month. Progressive Aggressive (in all of it's album art typo glory) is no more. Enter, The David Akermanis Podcast.

In reality, the show isn't that much different aside from a re-brand. But, the new name is reflective of a pretty drastic evolution in my musical taste since I launched the show in 2007.

Between my new Speedboats & Big Explosions project and where my musical taste has gone, I spend a great deal more time listening to, and producing, house music than I do trance or progressive. That being said, I do remain committed to providing you all with an early look in to the great music coming out from labels like Silk Music and Macarize on a monthly basis.

So, there is a bit of everything in the show now, and it is still a continuous mix - it's just less narrowly focused on melodic progressive music. That's all! Let me know what you think of the new format - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

Progressive Aggressive - June/July 2011

This is the latest I've ever published the show before, so I've decided to combine the June & July shows and lengthen things a little bit. To be honest with you all, I've been debating whether or not to continue the podcast or whether I should switch up the format.

Melodic Progressive House (although I love it) isn't really a part of my live performances anymore, and I have been investing a lot of my time in a new project called Speedboats & Big Explosions. My taste in electronic music is pretty broad as well, so I've been toying with the idea of playing a much broader selection of tunes.

I'm really interested in hearing what everyone actually thinks about this? Should I keep it the same? Would you be open to a change in format? Do you have any ideas? Drop me a line!

Progressive Aggressive - May 2011

May's episode has been out on soundcloud for a few days now, but for those of you that are hearing this for the first time sorry for the delay!

I've been wrapped up in the Edelman Toronto Little give for the last few days. This year me and my team had 48 hours to put together a plan on behalf of the Remix Project. Not only did was this a great experience but we were able to achieve a great deal in a really short period of time. A truly rewarding experience and only the beginning since a number of us, including myself, will be donating our time in the weeks and months to come to support their social enterprise arm Blackboard Marketing.

Another month has passed and another floor of beautiful progressive music wound up in my inbox. Highlights for me from this month's mix include Jaytech's 'Djembe' and 'Remembering Her Green Eyes' from Rainbow Addict, but really, all of these tracks are beautiful.

I'm in the process of moving studios once again so this episode has arrived a few days late once. I'm really looking forward to getting settled in to my new space and putting together an episode for the month of May though.

Progressive Aggressive - March 2011

Whoops... a little late this, well... last month! March's episode features some really great stuff - no shortage of excellent progressive music out there with the influx of tracks for Miami immediately behind us.

March's show kicks off with a beautiful deep tune off Stan Kolev's new album. The track features some super-deep rich pads and really interesting vocal hits. The break leads in to a gorgeous piano melody.

March was a busy month. I've been in the studio working on my Speedboats & Big Explosions duo with DJ Endgame. We wrapped up another three track EP in March that will be out, along with Hazel Eyes, on System Recordings NYC. The new EP features two brand new numbers: Trouble Woman and Strange Justice. The third track on the EP is my track Menagie, which I am thrilled to FINALLY be releasing.

We're still at it too - back in the lab this weekend working on a collaboration with vocalist Nicole Simone (Late Miss July) as well as something very housey along the Hed Kandi vein. All in all, @SBBEMusic is turning out really great and I've been pouring the majority of my musical energy in to that project. I'm going to start sharing more of that stuff here on my site.

One final thing... My 'Spark/Aura' EP is finally out on Silk music this Tuesday, April 5th! Definitely one of the better progressive EPs I've released under my name - very happy with how this one turned out. If you like what you hear, grab a copy from Beatport!

Progressive Aggressive - February 2011

Another huge batch of fantastic promos flooded my inbox this month. As usual, this month's show features a bunch of great music from the Proton and Silk Music family - consistently among the best publishers of progressive dance music.

I've been really busy so far this year working on Speedboats & Big Explosions, my housey side-project. We just wrapped up our first big release featuring Marcie - that'll be out on System recordings sometime in the future. Endgame and I have been in the lab pretty much weekly and have a solid line-up of Toronto-based shows on the horizon. Really excited about the progress we're making.

Although much of my focus has been on SBBE I'm still continuing to work on progressive music under my own name and, of course, after four years of putting out this podcast I'm not ready to stop. I'm currently working on a remix of Approaching Black's 'Slip' - the last track in this month's show. Hope to share that with everyone soon!

Progressive Aggressive - January 2011

This month's show starts off really deep before getting a little more melodic and driving.

With so much great music being released this month and the volume of really good sounding promos in my inbox it was hard to choose which ones to feature. The story of the moment is definitely Russian producer Soundprank, who has really been making his mark as of late. Of every 3 great sounding tunes I've heard this month at least 2 have been his handwork.

'Spark' from my forthcoming Spark/Aura EP is getting a pre-release on Proton tomorrow. Super-thrilled to announce that it has received support from the immensely talented Jaytech.

Progressive Aggressive - December 2010

2010 was an amazing year for me on a personal level. I've got a great new job, am living in a beautiful new studio, and with the woman I love to boot! Admittedly, the music side of things took a back seat this year. After starting out strong in 2009 with my remix of James Nelson's Relax and playing along side Markus Schulz and Glenn Morrison in Miami, things just kind of slowed down. So, you heard it here first: More music production in 2011.

This month's show features some great new stuff that has appeared over the last month or so, along with some of my favorites from 2010. Topping my list of Progressive Tracks this year is Schodt's 'White Tiger', a track that appeared more than once on PA this year. You can hear vocalist Aida Fenhel's in Proff's 'I Try' as well.

Thank you everyone for continuing to listen and support Progressive Aggressive over these past few years - January 2007 seems like an eternity ago. Happy New Years to you and your loved ones. See you in 2011!

Progressive Aggressive - November 2010

November has been a blast. I've been pretty busy performing with Endgame under our Speedboats & Big Explosions alias here in Toronto, and we also had some fun venturing to Waterloo last weekend to play the Purple Room.

Spark / Aura is still on the way. Sadly, I have no control over the release date and that's just kind of the way these things go... It will be out soon though. I've heard the remixes :)

Anyhow - this month's show kicks off with some great melodic progressive tracks from some of my Silk Music label-mates and then takes a turn toward a deeper and darker progressive sound that I think is more than appropriate for the amount of sunlight we're getting in Canada right now. The darkest day of the year is about 21 days away so the December installment of PA might be deeper and darker. Who knows! I hope you enjoy the mix.

Progressive Aggressive is arriving really late this month, and for that I apologize. It has been a pretty busy month with my changing jobs - and now relocating my studio as well. Hopefully November's show will make up for it :)

I'm also really excited to announce that my remix of Urban Breathe's Inside The Woods came out last week and was featured prominently in a big banner on Beatport's Progressive House page. If you havent' heard it yet - check it out. The EP features a duo production between Ad Brown and Urban Breathe called 'Catching Stars' as well as a great remix from Luiz B. My remix adds a little hop to the B-Side track and included a funkier bass to give it a little push.

It's been a busy month with Guestmixes on both Only Silk and Silk Royal Showcase in addition to my Vital Radio resident mix, so Progressive Aggressive is out a little later than I had hoped.

This month's show features tracks from some of my favorite labels like Silk, Nellie, and Arrival as well as some tracks from artists I haven't played in awhile. The mix kicks off with a remix from Ross Couch, who has been one of my favorite artists for some time now.

August has been another one of those months where there is just too much good music to fit in to the length of this show. Fantastic exclusives in the mix this month from Silk Digital and Nellie Recordings along some other amazing tracks Anjunadeep, S2 Recordings, Space Walker, and more.

By far my favorite track in this month's Progressive Aggressive has to be Sunn Jellie's remix of Mango's Good Morning Track. Jellie seems to be unstoppable lately and I can't get enough of this guy's sound. He is someone to watch out for. Enjoy!

Progressive Aggressive - July 2010

It's hard to believe another month has passed, but sure enough today is the last day of July. My inbox was once again brimming with promos this month and as always, it's really hard to choose which ones to play on the show.

I get lots of music sent to me, ranging from downtempo to house & progressive, but because of Progressive Aggressive's 1 hour set format I have to find a chunk of tracks that work together in that way. I've considered moving toward a more radio-based format where songs are broken up by chatter and IDs with maybe a 3 or 4 track set in there somewhere. That would, of course, require a little more effort on my part and I don't really want to go down that road unless the people who listen to PA are in favour.

Please drop me a line and let me know what you'd think about shaking up the format of the show.

Anyhow, this month's show kicks off with a great track by Schodt featuring vocalist Aida Fenhel on Silk Digital. There is a stellar remix package on this EP as well - I Highly recommend any of you trance & progressive lovers out there pick this one up.

Also in this edition of Progressive Aggressive, Some great tracks from the Nellie Recordings Imprint. Swedish duo 'Something Good' have followed up their highly successful Solence EP with another two track release. There are also a couple of nice ones from the Nellie Remixed Vol. 2 that I've featured in this mix as well.

On the production side of things, if you were wondering when my forthcoming Spark / Aura release on Silk Digital might be out, you may have to wait until November... Sad face. Things have been a little quiet for me in terms of studio output. It has been a crazy busy spring & summer so far, but there are some new and exciting projects in the works! I'll save that for another post. I'm also working on pulling together a new website - this one is looking a little tired :)

Another month has passed and another bunch of amazing promos have filled my inbox. There is so much good progressive music being put out these days that it's almost impossible to decide which ones to play on the show.

Progressive Aggressive - February 2010

What a great month! I can't remember the last time I've been so pumped about the tunes I've brought to Progressive Aggressive. This month's show is deep and dark with some funkiness adding icing to the cake.

Tracks 7 and 8 are both from Nellie Recordings, a great progressive imprint I've been really digging lately. I did a remix for them not too long ago of the track "Indonesia" by Latvian progressive artist Kaspar Kochker - look for that some time in the near future. Also in the mix this time around, another remix for Kaspar Kochker... this time of his track "Weekend at Moonlight".

Progressive Aggressive - September 2009

This month's episode of Progressive Aggressive picks up in the techno influenced vibe from last month but has a much trancier feel. I've been loving techier Progressive tracks lately, especially like the ones from Daniel Portman & David West, Ida Engberg in this month's show.

Progressive Aggressive - August 2009

Progressive Aggressive returns with a deeper offering this month. This time around I've put together a number of my favorite new deep, tech and progressive house tunes to bring you another summertime mix. I was definitely thinking forward to my upcoming performance on the Pier Pressure boat cruise this month.
