London Fashion Week - Rising Star- Yelena Loguiiko

Tucked away in the beautiful Liberal Jewish Synagogue of St John Wood's, Yelena Loguiiko is the new designer in town. After graduating from the prestigious London college of Fashion in 2009, she has well arrived with a striking collection.

Her inspiration took on a more contemporary feel in the old Library. Beautiful decorated walls of mural with library books the colours of terracotta encapsulated with her elegant earthy collection of deep red, terracotta, electric blues and dark greens.

I was impressed with her clean cut or should I say rather immaculate well made collection which she shyly said she achieved when she had a day off from her part time work! Wow! I remarked.

Her skills in cut and sew are immaculate. FACT!

After getting down to the main ideas, Yelena said she drew her inspiration from playing with notions of masculinity and femininity, Irvin Penn's 'Small Trades' geometry and Kandinsky's abstract art was key.

Designed for the confident bohemian woman she juxtaposed her research and ideas with clean lines. A favourite of mine was an earthy green skirt and V-back top with clean lines met when worn!
I haven't seen this before and i personally think there is a lot more to come with Yelena. (trendsetter perhaps!)

British Musuem- Grayson Perry exhibition

I visited the British Museum for the first time this year, I was blown away by the outstanding ceiling architecture.
I had to wait for an hour to gain entrance into the Grayson Perry-The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman exhibition which is the hottest ticket in the art world now. Luckily I was a student on that day and got a discounted ticket. yay! I have recently started a print short course at Central Saint Martins and loving it.
I was blown away by the mini exhibition which was curated by the transversite artist him self. a recommendation by my tutor. Here are a few snaps of what i fell in love with on my visit.
I enjoyed ice cream after the exhibition in the winter sun to cool down..!

Maurizio Anzeri I just discovered this fine artist/embroidery/print designer.I am well and truly amazed by his concepts and ideas, we can learn a lot from him in the future. Already collaborating with famous photographers, his work is featured in Dazed in Confused August 2011 issue. His representation of image making using the photograph as an object where the physical print and the image are examined and reinterpreted. Through needlework and embroidery, found family photographs are reinterpreted through embroidered designs and blocks of color, altering the original image to create new expressions.

My comments after seeing his work was ' They are riveting, haunting and beautiful in a very creepy way. A truly unique concept'!

Another great collaboration, this time between photographer Richard Burbridge , Italian artist Maurizio Anzeri and stylist Robbie Spencer for June 2011 issue of Dazed and Confused . Black and white photographs taken by amazing Richard Burbridge were exploded to another dimension by Maurizio Anzeri who is best known for his series of embroidered portraits made from photographs found in flea market. He transformed photos by stiching and sewing directly on them using colored threads. Logan White The US-based photographer presents a selection of beautifully atmospheric and feminine images before she embarks on a collaborative video project Lucas Nascimento The emerging London-based designer develops his taste for cocoon shaped sculptural dresses and art deco colour combinations Jake and Dinos Chapman Disasters of War, The drawings speak for themselves.

The latest ‘More or Less’ knitwear collection by Nanna van Blaaderen is inspired by organic forms, animal and nature. The designer used thick woolen yarns in off-white colors and experimented in combining knitting techniques with braiding techniques. Soft textures and raw expressive structures of these knitted sculptural pieces are applied in fashion, interiors and autonomous fields.

Lucas Nascimento

The emerging London-based designer develops his taste for cocoon shaped sculptural dresses and art deco colour combinations. His latest offering of ‘cocoon knitted garments’ consists mainly of skirts with eye popping, art deco combinations of colour. However, he also creates futuristic looking jackets and trousers, switching to block colour, which befits the bulkier silhouettes – a stand out look in the form of an glistening blue top and matching skinny trousers.

Jenny Postle and Sam Leutton

The young brand founded by Jenny Postle and Sam Leutton stands out from ordinary trends thanks to a unique and unusual approach. After graduating from CSM with an MA in knitwear and now having won the merit award at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, the creations of the brand are characterized by an incredible attention to details, which can be appreciated in every single garment.The patchwork technique is widely used and makes clothes unconventional, distant from ordinary trends. The creations by these young designers are very rich in textures and materials, full of energy and of incredibly bizarre matchings.

Creative Director of the London College of Fashion, Rob Phillips,

commissioned photographer James Finnigan to shoot the show in

an editorial style using the influence of the building and architecture

to capture the students collections in a way not usually associated

with show photography. “I try to apply a more painterly style and a

filmic quality to my work and a softness that I find is sometimes

lacking in fashion imagery, whilst still maintaining shape and

graphic recognition,” said Finnigan.

My tutor kindly asked me to quit knitting when i was in 2nd year. He asked 'I hope you

are not planning on doing this in 3rd year'.. i looked at him bemused. 'I was'!

I give great props to Irina Shaposhnikova‘s whom i was absolutely blown away when

I saw one of knitted pieces in Russian Vogue. She has just graduated from the MA

at Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts. These pieces are from her last collection at the

Academy of arts. I can’t speak for anyone else but I definitely haven’t seen knit like this before.

The cables are sewn onto almost invisible nylon mesh giving a knitted cabled cage affect.

Colombian graphic designer Sebastian Ospina introduced us to his awesome

mixed media collages that are characterized by female faces, used in most of his artwork which are intervened by photo collages and strokes of paint.

Sølve Sundsbø is an incredible photographer and working on the Vogue China Magazine with Edita Vilkeviciute has definitely blown me away with this smoke inspired photoshoot, which was styled by Nicoletta Santoro. He was our inspiration on the William Tempest Autumn/Winter 2011 film presentation so I do have an eye out for his works.

The incredible Singer dons 'black make up' for her recent shoot with L'officiel Paris in their 90th-anniversary issue, the star takes inspiration from African culture and wears head wraps as well as tribal-style clothing and accessories. This shoot was heavily criticized by the general public about 'race'. Respected fashion magazine L'Officiel has defended the shoot, saying in a statement that Beyoncé was 'paying homage to African queens' and as a 'return to her African roots, as you can see on the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened.'

As much as i would love to say the collection was about clothes... i will say it was about the beautiful models Zac Posen used! the black allure! their skin and beautiful features attracted me to like this collection even more....

Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood take on it show was more about the make up as much as it was about the clothes! my take on the make up it will be mythical creatures meet Hannibal Lector. It was dark and scary yet stunningly beautiful. it the sort of collection that welcomes a reaction from the viewers. power to the women was her latest call to arms. Vivienne has been breaking boundaries from day one and this show was right on spot with her crazy ideas.

Ann Demeulemeester Aw 11

Last season, Ann Demeulemeester tried her hand at wearable abstract art to purposefully go to an experimental place but today's show was about poetically playing out with familiar elements - feathers, lace-up detailing, fringing - to reach the heights of seduction through what she knows best. We always come out feeling all the more satisfied that what we saw was the sort of high grade consistency that so few manage to sustain and whilst much of what we saw today was familiar, the mythical creatures such as the fawn that Demeulemeester was inspired by to make female crossovers with, provided the vital bit of magic to produce

fantastical pieces such as an all over goat hair one-piece that was sprayed with fiery tones.

Gallino was not around to present his show during his the latest allegations so had his great couturists in white coloured lab coat coming out to applauded him and the show. It was a mixture of different tones of colour/ great fur snoods with knee high lace up boots which would look amazing on any figure out there.

Balenciaga
My dream job lies in this fashion house, counting my stars one day i will get approached.. love love love Balenciga. Everything they do is amazing in my eyes...prints-check- technological knits- check- colour- check-hair-check-make up-check- 'i love it all -check- inspired by an archival Cristobal piece from 1965. Each one was made from a simple, rectangular piece of fabric. Elegant and effortless, this was realism trumping surrealism. That's what will make this collection a resounding success.

Missoni
Missoni has been one of my favorite designers when growing up. I love how she sticks to tradition and modernizes her themes every season. Her vision is clear with long printed chiffon dresses which were juxtaposed with masculine tailoring and gradient knits.Watching her younger daughter dress up in a long skirt and a men’s blazer was what initially inspired Angela Misonni's collection for Winter 2012. The result was a mix of masculine and feminine elements, all of which were layered over and kept in the pretty palette of mint, pale blue and baby pink.

The Greco-Austrian designer brought together leather body-con dresses with silk chiffon details for a tough look.

With the biggest A-list guests in tow, the show at Kensington Gardens saw a coats-focused collection in dark ochres and earthy tones. Almost the entire collection was based around coats of one kind or another in a number of colours. Bright greens, blues, red and ochre's ranged through to darker browns and earthy tones. with opulence and comfort being at the centre of the experience, which closed with a full pyrotechnic snow storm raining down on the models as they returned backstage from their final walk

Austere and restrained, Giles presented high necklines and ruffled collars for a strong feminine woman

Christopher Kane
Cut-out detailing with sheer silks gave models, a futuristic feel through fluid PVC fabrics and eye-catching bright hues.

Jonathan Saunders
I think this is the first ever Jonathan Saunders collection that i like. maybe because he is doing menswear and lots of prints ( love print) but he has moved forward so much and very impressed with his newest collection. Inspired by the 30s and 40s, Saunders showed a collection - including menswear - that boasted geometrics, graphic patterns and contrast colours. Keep up the good print work!

Peter Pilotto AW/11
After doing an internship with the lovely duo Christopher de Vos and Peter Pilotto, I wasnt holding my breath to see their amazing collection because they always tend to blow me away with their cool wearable prints dresses.this time they were right on target by churning out mixed 3-d prints and colour palette, with beautiful wide leg trousers and lengthy coats. perfect for a little kick in the winter!

Scenic prints in colourful pastels appeared in 3D baroque, floral motifs and worldly influences creating an eclectic and artistic collection. The collection had a busy feel but contained the classic appeal. It was inspired by art world women.
